I fixed your links to remove the gaia online redirect, since that doesn't do much other than simply break things, in at least one case.

Incidentally, you might want to review the part of the rules that explains the format for thread titles... Just a hint...

Thanks for removing the redirect from gaia, it's too much of a pain to rename the URLs from scratch but eh, too lazy but I bet you heard that excuse a lot.

Also, I'll fix the topic title. : 3

it's a freaky mix of anime and cartoon line art.... like Hanah-Barberra crossed with Rumiko Takahashi kinda.

Your style shows potential, but is still a bit rough. Though It seems to me that the pics you've shown were done significantly apart in time from eachother and there is actually noticeable improvement. Keep it up!

I have to agree with Kipiru.  You've got some good foundation stuff here and from the looks of it you've been improving with each picture.  There's always room to expand though.

Not to sound like someone else around here, but consider studying some anatomy and use reference pictures when possible to get the most out of your drawings.  I've started using reference photos a lot lately and it's really helped.  I hope to eventually not have to use them, but until then any tool that helps will be used.

I best lurk more for tutorials for halpz. Thanks for the time commenting~ Usually the anatomy becomes much better over time, it's the coloring I'm worried about such as how I should shade the drawing and such.

Oh, did I forget to mention I make sprites (not as much as I did last year but eh...)

Nice work.

All your characters have a great sense of motion and energy to them, and your coloring is very clean (IE: no grey jaggies along the lines).

The arms look a bit long, most of the time. A persons wrist comes down to their crotch, and the elbow lines up with the lowest point of the rib cage.

There are some anatomy tweaks I could suggest, if you want to get right technical. Cartoony styles don't really need a lot of this, but it's still good to know.
(One 15 min diagram later)
Yeech, what a mess. Anyway.
(Edit: Revised and cleaned up the diagram. Caption still stands.)

1: There's a distance between the chin and collar bone of about half the overall height of the head.
2: (Blue lines) Trapezius muscles. Critical for drawing a shoulder line. Squared off shoulders that follow the collar bone look really two-dimensional. Also, under the arm, there are muscles that go from the arm pit down to the back. Those are important for...
3: The Y and T rule: Drawing overlapping muscles makes the character look more 3 dimensional. This is the Y and T rule, highlighted by the red lines.

You'll notice the importance of understanding where the pectoral muscles connect and overlap with the biceps, the muscle groups between the trapesius and the latissimus dorsi, and...

Uh...

What the devil? Where'd you get that mohawk? Alright, thats it! Shows over!

Anyway. I hope that wasn't too confusing.

Sorry about that part on the top right hand corner, it's hard to scan from a hardcover sketch book ^ ^;

Woo! Somebody's having fun.

Nice expression. Only thing that stands out to me is that the pose of the arms looks kind of stiff, but otherwise the body language is very energetic.

I love the crowd, by the way.

No, really. I mean that.

Night at the Rave (colored!) (http://arroyo-river.deviantart.com/art/Night-at-the-Rave-117842938)

Let me tell you, the lighting effects don't really do the picture any justice. X_X I'm somewhat proud how the glowsticks came out. I saved an extra copy of the picture not rave'd. : P

Anyways, just a typical night out at a rave for Tierra. Why did I choose Tierra? Only because her fun personality seemed to fit well with the scene. But thats what I get for listening to random songs by daft punk while drawing Tierra : P

Also, random cheesy action text is a go!

let's see an obscure Anime set in the feudal era and modern times, wow that really narrows it down... is it inuyasha? that one where the kid gets trapped in the VR simulator of the fuedal era, or that other one withe the swords and everything.... as for the arts, it would be better if we actually had a point of reference. To me walking in on the art cold it looks like twins experiencing a mutual moment of trauma in differing locations.

the eyes, ears, hair style,  and other features don't match up save for color alone so if it is the same person in two different timeliness  one couldn't tell unless they were familiar with the character. I do like the colors though.

Soul Eater? Seeing as how you said as much in the DA post. There isn't really much in the image that suggests it's inspired by a particular source.

The two characters are fairly distinct in design, but in the pic they look very, very similar. I had to take a minute or two to pick out the differences. If they're "alternate" versions of the same character (two different Arroyos) the similarity is understandable, but they still look almost identical.

No it's not Inyusaha, I hate Inyuasha

The left is my Original Character, Arroyo Milori and the right is my Gaia online avatar, who is somewhat similar looking to Arroyo but isn't completely. The clothes were different only to show it was a different person on each side along with features.

EDIT: Oh shoot I shouldn't have put the answer in my DA artist's post. DX In a way, I made them look similar in certain features to show that they are kind of the same. I might use my Gaia Online avatar as a Virtual image of arroyo whenever he plays an MMO of some sort in my comics (if I get around to writing the script : P )

Feet can be a real pain. I'd make suggestions on how to fix them, but... well, they're not in the pic.

Ripping the paper brings up a few questions, tho. What kind of paper are you using? How hard are the leads (HB, 2B, etc)? How hard do you press your pencil?

When I bought my sketchbook, it did not list what kind of paper it had and I'm not sure how hard the lead is. However I do press hard on the paper sometimes without noticing.

I don't know if this is anything you're worried about, but it's all good to know so I thought I'd mention it.

When drawing something that is going to be inked, there are a few things that help. Hard leads, for very very light lines that don't smudge, and very smooth paper help a lot.

Drawing with pencil requires little to no pressure whatsoever. If you're putting grooves in the paper at all, you're pressing harder then you need to. Holding the pencil lightly will keep your lines loose and fluid. Also, the less pressure you use the easier the lines are to erase.

Hmm, you can get away with that look for a skinny guy, but you will eventually have to draw muscles exceeding your own  :mowwink My suggestion is, try drawing bodybuilder boddies- with more or less detail, just to get the feeling of the flow of human muscles and build on that afterwards(that's how I learned).

Arroyo's 2009 ref. sheet (http://arroyo-river.deviantart.com/art/Arroyo-Milori-Ref-Sheet-09-126188704)

So I actually got around to making another ref. sheet of Arroyo. It's a bit better than the last one, which is good but it doesn't display enough information but I sized it down to the important details. So basically your getting half the information of Arroyo from this but if you ask I might give you all of it.

I do love his expression, I wanted to make his eyes look kind of mello'd out and make it look like hes daydreaming, in which I kind of succeed I guess.

I believe it has been three years since I first created Arroyo and tweaked his information here and there (And sometimes his looks!) and I'm still proud of how this character came out and glad to call him my fursona. X3

Kind of bored and I wanted to draw something slightly different so here it is. I even practiced a bit with my pencil shading on this as well. Your link is broken. :S

I managed to go to your gallery and view the picture anyway though.

Only beef I have with this one is that the muzzle feels off.  The majority of the face is level, and then the muzzle just shoots down.  Also, the face seems to be at a 3/4 turn but there's no line showing where the muzzle juts out from the center of the face, so it all looks like it's merged.  The shading you've done helps with this quite a bit, but might not be enough in this case.

Either way, it's a cute picture and it's good that you're doing different things.  Try as much as you can and see what works.  This looks like a great practice piece.  :3

The shading on the building in the foreground could stand a little more definition, tho. A bit of ambient shadow below the ledge might do it.

Arroyo Milori practice sketch (http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn127/ArroyoMilori/Sketches/IMAGE0018.jpg)
The pose for this came out great, and I wanted to draw him in a different outfit other than the usual buttoned up shirt. Though I wish that the facial expression was a bit better...or didn't look so weird.

Drawliet Law practice sketch (http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn127/ArroyoMilori/Sketches/IMAGE0019.jpg)
Yup, one of these days I will draw something human. To be honest i absolutely dread drawing humans. I always have a good design for a human (or something that looks human) in my head but then I actually start to draw it, I start to cry on how much it doesn't look a thing like what I want it to look like. I was close on Drawliet, Perhaps a wilder look will fit his personality, and his abilities.

BUt something feels seriously wrong with this picture, I know it has to do with the face, I just can't seem to find it. This always happens when I draw humans. DX

If I might suggest...

(15 Sec diagram)

Something to consider: The jaw and the cheekbone. When facing straight on, the corner of the jaw determines the shape of the face, and that lines up with the mouth in terms of height (which is how you've drawn it here). However, when the head is turned slightly the shape of the face is determined by the cheekbone, which is much higher up. (On my alteration here, the corner of the chin comes up to the same height of the cheek bone because of the viewing angle and the tilt of the head)

The center of the chin, mouth, and nose all line up. It's pretty common in anime to push the mouth away from the edge of the face. Something to consider, though, is that even if the center of the chin lines up with the center of the face, it still has some width. That means that the corner of the chin won't line up with the centerline of the face if the head is turned.

Also: when the head is turned, usually the neck lines up with the back of the head.

And let me add: That is a damn fine looking nose. Nostrils are f'ckin' hard. Well done.

When the arm lifts, the deltoid usually lifts as well. Also, the wrist should be half as thick as the elbow at that angle.

I've been reading all along, I just haven't found much to comment on. I kinda feel bad about this, since I was in the same situation not that long ago.

Regular practice is probably the fastest route to improvement, so I guess all these sketches are a good sign. It's noticeable that you're experimenting and pushing things: perspective, expression, anatomy, etc.

On the other hand the sketches end up unremarkable, compared to each other, so it's hard to come up with remarks. Most of the pics feel like quick sketches, featuring a single character and a bit of setting.

When I make comments, I try to find both supportive things to say (IE: What the artist did well, or things I like about the piece), and constructive things (IE: Suggestions for improvement, or things that bug me about the work). It's hard to find positive things without repeating the same comments for each pic, and just posting constructive comments can come across harsh criticism.

I might suggest spending more time working on the pics you post if you want more comments. Develop them a little more: inking and coloring are good, but even taking more time to clean up the pencils would help.

So, hey, keep it up and try not to get disheartened. With effort, improvement is only a matter of time.

DA uses HTML markup in comment posts.  I'm pretty sure they only support a limited subset rather than directly running any old tat the user types, but that's the syntax they're using.

Awesome. I love the pose.

The feet do look a bit small to me. The foot is as long as the head is tall.

The thing that stands out, to me, is that the body looks very realistic, but the face is very stylized. They're both well drawn, but they don't seem to match each other.

The anatomy on Peria's arm looks a little weak. Forearms, like calves, have most of the muscle on the upper half. The wrist is about half as thick, and about 2/3rds as wide, as the thickest part of the arm.

The square lower lip looks... kinda odd. That might just be your style, tho. The expression as a whole is awesome. Well, the expression is unamused, but it's an awesome unamused.

An observation on the meme images; the line work has really sharpened up over time, and the style has certainly gelled. I'll agree that the anatomy has improved significantly, too.

I noticed the comment about possibly starting a comic. Honestly, I think you could do a pretty good job on one if you did; your characters express well, which means they can act. I might suggest getting comfortable with drawing backgrounds of some sort, even minimal ones. And drawing things in panels. That took me a little while to get used to.

I think people both over and underestimate the amount of work needed to plan a comic. story outlines, character sheets and turnarounds are a good idea, but I don't understand why one would have to write out 50 pages on the technology, or magic, of a setting, or write 20 thousand years of detailed history. But then, that's not the part of a story I find interesting.

QuoteThat's the important part at least I started somewhere.
Quoted for truth. Nobody gets anywhere if they don't start somewhere.

It's going to be a while before I can actually get around drawing a comic page, I usually constantly revise the script just to get it justtttt right. : 3 I have ideas on how to explain the setting of the comic, and I also know how to present them in the comic.

I also noticed that my artwork over time starts to show a bit of my character's personality a bit (or at least the one's of Citrine.) I've been swamped with homework and projects for final's week. Things are cutting close and I barely have time to do any art work. ^ ^;

Cute expression. She looks determined about something. >:3 {Meditation FTW!)

The muscles on the shoulder and biceps look a bit simplified. I agree with Turn on the earrings, too. But then, maybe they're supposed to be uncomfortable.

I do like that 'wet behind the ears' pic! (it also works well in your siggy, by the way). With the wet hair though, I think it might look more 'wet' if you have it flattened more, and make the shiny highlights long, thin lines, instead of having them wave up and down. The colours look great together though, and I love the unimpressed expression.

"I sound my barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world."
— Walt Whitman

The perspective on the chain/post doesn't line up with the background. The angle of the bull horn doesn't match itself, either.

I like the bold shadows; they add impact. I like the pose, too. It really looks like she's putting her weight into it. It compliments the facial expression well.

The arm holding the bullhorn seems kind of stiff. Lifting the elbow would give it more tension.

I can't really comment on the proportions... cartoony figures are kind of arbitrary that way.

The hips and torso seem to be laid out using 2-dimensional shapes; adding a shape for the ribcage and pelvis would help give definition to the body, and make it easier to draw the figure from other angles and in other poses.

I do have one suggestion, but it's not a pleasant prospect. Studying real human anatomy, particularly the bones and muscles, would make a huge difference. I'm sure there are ways to tweak the simplified shapes in the first step for more lifelike results, but spheres and cylinders will only go so far.

I could redline the pic, if you like.

I find sketch dumps neat... it's fun to see experimental stuff.

Well, I never do something like this without getting permission first.

...

I R UNSTOPPABLE!

Ahem.

I'm going to go kinda in-depth here. I figured that I might as well give you everything I got, and you could take as long as you like to go over it. I did, however, keep the focus on places where the anatomy affects the actual appearance of the figure.

Also... let me note that I'm not a professional at this. I might be wrong in a few places.

Bones:

(A) Skulls are fun to draw.
(B) The bones of the elbow make a bump when bent, and a dimple when straightened.
(C) The lower end of the ribcage makes the torso curve outward slightly.
(D) The upper edge of the pelvis makes a bump at the hip. (Or a dimple, if the person has reeeely developed oblique muscles.)
(E) The socket of he femur is level with the inseam. ("inseam" being my polite term for groin). Good to know when posing the leg in different ways.
(F) The end of the collar bone makes a dimple or a bump, depending on the pose of the arm and the muscle build of the figure.

Muscles:

(1) The pectoral muscles extend from the centre of the ribcage and collar bone, and all in to the armpit.
(1.a) Deltoids: At a certain point on the collarbone, the muscles don't stop at the armpit, and continue on down the arm: that point lies up with the outside of the sternomastoid (neck) muscle. Sorta. Mostly. I think.
(The little diagram there was drawn in one line: across, down, then zigzags for the muscle. I scribble one of those in the margins whenever I'm having a hard time drawing a shoulder).
(2) Abdominal muscles extend from the chest down to the inseam. These make a crease along the belly.
(3) Obliques: Between the bottom of the ribcage and the top of the hip, these bulge out a bit from the side.
(4) Brachioradials: Most of the muscle mass of the forearm is on the upper half, but you already knew that. The two muscles form a crease called the ulnar trench. It'll change position/direction depending on how the arm is twisted. (...Aaaand I just noticed that the line between the two muscle groups is in the wrong place. See (4) in the next diagram.)
(5) The trapezius muscles go from the base of the skull, down the back and out across the shoulder. Drawing them slightly concave or convex makes the shoulder line look more natural. It should be pointed out that this is one spots where muscles attached to the back of a figure are visible from the front. There are two others of note.
(6) The muscles on the inside of the back of the thigh go halfway down the femur. Again, these muscles are on the back of the figure but they're visible from the front. leaving these out makes a gap between the legs at the inseam.
(7) For the sake of completeness... the Latissimus dorsi is the third muscle of note. Paying attention to this spot goes a long way towards making torsos look three-dimensional: The pecs and deltoids go ontop of the bicep, and the bicep goes on top of the lats. This creates a layering effect.

...Dang, that is one smexy little diagram.

Surface:
Note: The arm on the left looks reeeely beefy, because I exaggerated some of the muscle definition for demonstration purposes. The arm on the right is not so exaggerated.

Muscles overlap and mesh with each other. One of the best tricks for drawing them is to look for Ys and Ts. Good examples of these are at (1) and (11).

(1) Deltoids go about a third of the way down the bicep.
(2) There's a convex spot where the bicep roots to the eblow.
(3) Corner of elbow joint sticking out.
(4) Ulnar furrow.
(5) Curve made by the ribcage and it's muscles.
(6) Crease at the armpit. Note that there's two here: One made by the curvature of the top of the breast, the other by the pectroal and deltoid muscles. Figures may have one or the other or both, depending on their physical build and their pose. And gender. (Dang it... I don't like how they look here. Argh.)
(7) Crease of the abdominal muscle.
(8 ) Protrusion of the hip.
(9) Crease between the bicep and the deltoid. The bicep comes out from under the deltoid.
(10) Crease created by the ribcage. I added it here just to say that it shouldn't be there, because it is very rarely visible, unless the character is bending backwards. Or anorexic.
(11) Crease of the thigh muscles.
(12) This pose raises the shoulder, which flexes the traps, angles the collar bone upward, and creates an indentation between the deltoid and the trapezius.

The way you draw faces is highly stylized, so I'm not sure if thats something you want to change or not. I figured it wouldn't hurt to include the following points on facial anatomy, since it's all good to know.
(13) A touch of curve on the side of the muzzle.
(13.1) Small indent where the upper and lower lips meet.
(13.2) A slight slope at the bridge of the nose. Also note the Y there.
(13.3) The cheekbone and brow protrude a bit from the side of the head.

Legs were always a problem for me, especially thighs. Though I am trying to work on the face more, it's a bit of trial and error when stylizing and still working on it. Hopefully the face will eventually turn out to look the correct way it should. I also gotta keep in mind that I do draw characters with different builds (Tierra being practically normal, Citrine being muscular, ect.) let alone different species.

Your help is very welcomed and will keep in mind these notes for future drawlingz :B

It's all trial and error. The moment an artists work stops being experimental, it becomes stagnant.

I heartily applaud you, good sir. It drives me nuts when artists never bother to learn how to draw more then one body type/species.

If that top version of the sprites is naked, might want to make it a url tag instead of an img, and mark it NSFW. Not that anything is visible, but... you know. As a matter of protocol.

Considering it's a sprite, there's quite a bit of detail there. Particularly on the outfit and hair.

Are you going to do any animations for it?

Most likely, that's why I make sprites nowadays. Sprite comics are a low form of comicing and it's too much work to make a 100% custom sprite comic with backgrounds from scratch and such.

However making a colorful assortment of poses will be tricky, seeing that some poses will require foreshortening of the body and such.

Plus the sprites aren't showing anything naughty (unless you consider pubic fur naughty) so I dunno what the forum's policy is on clean nudity.

The forum's Official Policy is "play it safe"

Case in point: At least one person I'm aware of has a job that would object to artistic pictures of women in full clothing, if the clothing is tight. That particular job is, IMHO, excessively anal-retentive, but having said that, it's someone else's livelihood we're working with here, so if you err on the side of caution, everyone is happy.

Does that help?

Profile Doodle:
In human proportions, the neck is about 2/3rds as deep as the head is. The figure here has a neck about 1/4th as deep as the head, which reduces the depth of the chest. This in turn reduces the width of the shoulder and pushes it forward. It also flattens the spine, which normally curves out a bit at the base of the neck, and back in at the lower ribcage. The head itself looks about the right size, and the front of the neck seems to be in about the right place.

That's the thing about proportions... changing the size of one thing can change the size of everything else.  :B

The chest usually comes out a bit from the collar bone down, and the sternum lines up with the front of the face (not accounting for a furry muzzle, that is).

The shoulder is actually placed pretty far back. In profile, the front of the shoulder lines up with the middle of the torso.

Headshot:
I said skulls were fun to draw, didn't I?  :3 Looks cool.

Gravity sketches: I swear... not enough artists practice this stuff.
I notice the eyes and muzzle are looking less blocky, and the mouth has more definition to it. That little indent for the lips on the bottom left drawing is a nice little detail.
In human proportions (and animal ones too, I think... not certain for sure) the corner of the jaw lines up vertically with the front of the ear. The ears are set farther back, but the eyes are extra large, so it'd probably look alright there without having to move anything around.
The hair looks good as far as being affected by gravity goes. The shape of it seems like a flat surface, rather than strands.
The ears on the two drawings on the left seem like they're not quite placed right... Hold on.
(Turns laptop sideways for a moment)
Actually, the lower one looks okay if the ears were being flattened back. The position of the top two don't match up: in the drawing on the left, the lower point of the ear is level with the middle of the eye instead of being slightly above the eyebrow, and the upper side is above the corner of the eye, rather than the middle of the eye. Same goes for the part of the hair.
When eyes are relaxed or neutral, the upper lid covers over just a tiny bit of the pupil. Characters look wired if the eyelid is higher. Which, really, might be the intended effect. Just thought I'd point it out.

Oh, nice. The shape of the figure looks like it's improving, it feels more... 3D. Sorta. Depth. Volume. That sort of thing.

The profile of the body looks pretty good. The feet are placed a bit far forward, which looks a little off balance.

The part of the hair in profile looks farther forward than the one from straight on. From the side, the locks are behind the eye, while from straight on, they overlap the eye.

I'll get to fixing that.

His hair is a bit weird, I think that's just a normal error I make. I usually juggle it between having it over his eye slightly and having it over to the side. Can't seem to make up my mind for it : P

Was trying to go off of a reference (http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/1346/tudorsmanswordpose.jpg) with this picture.

A little something I'm working on for my 2011 reference sheet. I haven't added any clothing (yet) because I want to make sure I have certain things right with this picture.

Such as the pose, and the anatomy. I might change up the expression however I'm not sure what kind of expression I should go for. It just seems boring with a neutral expression.

Helpful suggestions and comments would be nice :3

I am well aware I have made some mistakes on this sketch and fixed them (though I haven't scanned the fixed version yet) such as the left leg being taller than the right leg, and the right foot looks very weird.

I can say this, I did do something different when starting this sketch. I usually start with the head but I decided to use lines to have a rough idea of how to plan the pose out then add structure. I'll have to do a step-by-step sketch of what i mean >w>;

I like the foreshortening on the forearm, and the pose on the legs looks nice. The legs look kind of thick around the ankles.

I don't know what to call this. I just drew his head a bit different each time, trying to figure out  how I should go about drawing him. Stopped at 4 probably because I was a bit satisfied with the results, though I may redraw it a 5th or 6th time.

Oh yeah, I also developed a bad habit to write little self critique notes from time-to-time. My handwriting is terribad.

#1: "A little rusty while drawing this" "Eyes too big" "Muzzle to long" "Yuck!"
#2: " Chin is ok" "Eyes seem to close together" "mouth needs work" "meh..."
#3: "Worth a shot!" "Eyes could be a bit rounder" "chin needs work" "try to duplicate result"
#4: "Ok!" "eyes are rounder" "Muzzle lowered"

I wouldn't say it's varying, more like improving on the way. I noticed it gets curlier each time though...

Though I need to get around to making a better reference sheet with alternate haircuts.

I find that my characters appearance evolve not because I'm changing their design, but because the way I draw them steadily gets closer to the way I imagined them in the first place. Is it kind of like that?

I like the protrait on the bottom. The bridge of the nose looks like it slopes outward smoothly, and looks more like a natural muzzle shape. Less blocky. I like the hair, too. Not sure why.

The way the chin slopes in seemed kinda odd. A lot of canines tend to have very little lower jaw, but it almost looks like an underbite

The convex eyes are probably a stylistic choice, but they look kinda strange to me.

Here's a quick redline with a few thoughts...
Never mind the nose, btw. In retrospect, the original one looks just fine. I don't know why I thought it needed tweaking. The eyes were reshaped to make them concave, but also because they looked... well, like they weren't level. Tilted, or skewed.

Tweaked the hair just a bit to push the ear forward, and add a little more depth to the back of the head. Mostly just to see what it would look like.

I like the hair too :3 Though I'll need to make a ponytailed and a short haircut version someday.

As for the jaw...I hope you know that he isn't canine right? I was afraid that the muzzle may look canineish in the end but decided to experiment on it...for science. But I did notice that canine muzzles tend to go a bit more straight out, feline muzzles tend to slope downward a bit.

I think the eyes were drawn that way because of how I drew the head, which is kind of tilting downward but I can't tell if the eye position would be natural or not if the head appeared to be tilting down.

There's pitch, yaw, and roll.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rollpitchyawplain.png)If the head is tilted up or down (pitch) or turning left or right (yaw), or both, the eyes will stay level with each other.

If the head leans left or right (roll), the eyes will tilt. The head will pitch and yaws to view things or as a part of body language, but rolling is usually expressive only, implying ignorance, confusion, or a question.

Eyes will not be level if the camera is at a significant angle above or below the head, due to parallax.

Ahem... What must have thrown me off is that when I see a head turned at that angle with a line from the nose to the mouth that's straight, I think "dog."

...The vertical pupils and triangular nose should have tipped me off. What kind of cat were you using as a base?

"Inspired by" might be a better term.

As an observation, lions tend to have pretty prominent, round chins, and the fur covers the "top" of the nose.

(PS: If I'm annoying you with my nit-picking, just give me a blast, aright? :3 I'm just sorta brainstorming stuff that might make the muzzle look more feline.)

Tierra torso drawing (http://the-river-blues.tumblr.com/post/10550665656/something-i-might-throw-into-tierras-reference)

It's a NSFW picture, but I'm hoping to get some opinions on the torso, I was triyng to make her have a rectangle figure, to hopefully add to some pudginess to her belly. Just to show she is healthy and not oddly thin.

Well, I got a distinct impression of rectangular build and slight pudge.

The breasts look like they're slightly different sizes... not sure which one should be considered the "right" size.

Her arms look kinda long. Typically, the wrists come down to the hip joint, and the elbows line up roughly with the bottom of the rib cage (well, not including the floating ribs).

In addition to what Whitefox had mentioned, the clavicle lines are a pinch too far out and not quite low enough.

The neck seems a bit vacant and could be a little longer.

The head is also... Too big? Unless there was some sort of moe aesthetic you were working towards.

Oh... well, it looks like the top of the hip bone (and the belly button) is a bit low. That might be messing up some of the proportions.

It also looks like Tierra is turned slightly away from the camera. Based on that assumption, I did a quick redline:
Tierra Torso Redline (http://www.whitefoxart.com/artwork/redline/tierra_torso_red.png) NSFW: Nudity.

I threw in my 2c for the clavicle, and the elbow just for good measure.

[edit] Actually, methinks I placed the mark for the sternum sternum a bit low.

Allllrighty then.
The concept behind "the redline" is to not only point out corrections, but also to display where one could do better. Now, since whitefox has not even deigned to provide you with something more informative beyond his own version of the "higher or lower" game, and not only that, but he seems to have missed the point entirely about pointing out flaws in anatomy drawing, and that going right to the key point where most proportional work begins: the head and spine.
Let's post a redline of my own, shall we? (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Turnsky/Sketches/arroyoredline.jpg)

Now, working with the proportions you've already set in place with this female canid, whom is evidently looking off to the side while the rest of her body is facing squarely with the camera slightly. We note the head is somewhat larger in proportion to the rest of her body, whitefox's correction about arm length is there, and generally the elbow is around waist height. depending on figure, the female generally has a narrow waist in comparison to her ribs and hips. Speaking of hips, they are indeed quite narrow, a little wider to improve the taper of the waist should alleviate that.
as for the breasts? it goes without saying that they're more like water balloons that actual balloons, more to the point they're sacks of fat, they're soft, squishy, and gravity takes hold. generally speaking without anything holding them up they tend to form not too far from the bottom half of a water drop in terms of shape. this is largely dependent on overall cup size.

Taking all this and more into account, we get something like this. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Turnsky/Sketches/arroyogreenline.jpg) Which i believe was your intention for camera and posing.
If i seem a tad harsh or anything it's because of the fact that nobody here has thought to go "back" over a few of the basics with you, and the problem with having one artist teach you instead of sourcing information from many, is that you pick up that one artist's bad habits. Your proportions and structure need work in this case, things like belly buttons, sternums and the clavicles can wait until you that sorted out, focusing too much on the fiddly things now that chances are will be covered by clothing and fur can wait for later.

Her body is suppose to be facing slightly away, and as for your redlining I do appreciate it but you overlooked one detail: I was trying to purposely give her a rectangular shape body, not an hourglass shape. Why Rectangular? Is because I wanted her to have some fat but not like, a large amount, just enough to make her seem healthy but still have some imperfections with her body.

Also, I redrew it, so hopefully i got it right this time, or close to it. (http://i.imgur.com/XholK.jpg)

Huh.

I notice that you draw a circle for the head, and add the jaw to it. I think what's happening is that the jaw is both taking up space where the neck would be, and unbalancing the appearance of proportions based on the height of the head. When I measure the torso proportions using the circle, sans jaw, most of the torso looks right.

The face on this version is a stellar improvement, by the way. Particularly the muzzle.

I'll take another crack at a redline for the hips... not right now, tho. It's late.

then less emphasis would be put on the curvature of the waist, proportionally barring some niggling features you're getting there.
Hope you don't mind another redline (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Turnsky/Sketches/arroyoredline2.jpg)
It's important to remember that techniques only go so far, and if you rely on one too much it tends to fall apart when you try something else with it. The "head height" ideal is a fairly good example, as it's only suitable for direct facing angles such as front, back, side. so it tends to become increasingly redundant when you try different perspective angles and foreshortening. the main consideration is to remember what's in relation to what.
Take your elbows into consideration for example; why are they too low? The "waist" when structuring a character drawing is generally that space just below the rib cage and just above the hips, so really the elbow should be roughly below the ribcage, and following on from that, the wrist is generally at the same level as a character's butt.

you know, this might be actually more useful to you as well: Drawfurry.com 'figure basics' tutorial (http://www.drawfurry.com/?p=26) that might be able to help you at least knock out some of the basic ground work, after which you can begin to work on something more articulated.

It's been kind of action-less lately with art. School work could be blamed but it could be the lack of motivation and my attention is more so shifting towards story writing. But nothing involving what I usually draw, lets just say it's to prepare myself for the the project involving these characters but I have to be very careful when I start to write it considering what kind of characters are involved and such while still keeping the reader's interest without the need to pander.

The currently story is still in the process of being outlined, but I could start on doing the rough draft of chapter one any time I want or continue to brainstorm ideas and create different branches and see what actually works and makes more sense. Although I'm aiming for this to be probably a steam punk super hero comic but so far it's coming out more sci-fi right now, it could change at any time. And no, there is absolutely no anthropomorphic creatures in this story, just humans.

Anyways, sketches. I did recently acquire a manikin hand which is kind of helpful for me to get the basics down of where to start off when drawing the hand, but its not a substitute for the real deal.

I'll keep these in link format:

The issue I realized when drawing hands is the foreshortening and such, like when your drawing a finger going outwards then the tip of the finger trying to curl back to the audience.

Also, I did a tiny fix up the Tierra picture a bit(NSFW) (http://i.imgur.com/Q5sJ0.jpg)

a mannequin is no substitute for the real thing, yes. Infact it's fairly useless in terms of teaching folks real structure and form. the hand is a hell of a lot more flexible than that to begin with, not to mention the thumb knuckle is stiff as all hell.
i've limited time right now, so i'll just fling you something marginally more useful by way of references and tutorials.

you want to be able to draw human-like hands, not wooden pirate hands, after all.  :P

also you might wanna ease up on the pencil there, you're fairly heavy handed, the key is being light with pencil lines, your wrist will thank you for it later. so will your pencil leads.

(not to mention it also damages the paper)
