Title: Character theme songs.
Post by: Draken on March 02, 2009, 03:29:13 PM
Alrighty....given that every has different viewpoints, I'd like to see what song YOU might think of when looking at a character, or what song reminds of you of a char, etc.  Basically, what do you think would be a good theme song for him/her?

Mine:

Jyrras:         "Blinded Me With Science" by  Thomas Dolby
Abel:           "SexyBack" by Justin Timberlake
Dan:           "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down
Merlitz:       "So What!?" by Pink (in terms of context  :P)
Fa'Lina:      "Killer Queen" by Queen
Lorenda:    "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot
Mab:           (Not sure...I know the song, but not the name :P)

Anyone else?  or opinions on what I gave out?

A few i can think of right now... after just hearing them...

Abel: Ashes - Pepper
Dan: Big Balls - ACDC  (at least for everything pre-meeting regina again...)
Jyrras: Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus
Regina: Crazy B**** - Buck Cherry (best i could find for now... the chorus seems pretty accurate though :P)
Merlitz: Let it Rock - Kevin Rudolf (it fits much better)
Mab: Make a Move - Incubus

sorry, forgot a few...

Wildy: Dude Looks Like a Lady - Aerosmith
Aaryanna: Devil's Daughter - Silvertide

Mix-a-lot's version, or Jonathan Coulton's version?

Um...the more popular, well known one?

{EDIT}  The Joco one I guess.....

Ruthless Dracocidal Destania: "Invincible", by Pat Benatar
Post-Edward "Nice" Destania: "Kiss From a Rose", by Seal

...and although I've actually considered this myself, it seems that all of my other ideas involve Mab's Land characters.  How odd.

I'm not usually in the business of assigning songs to people, but I'll give Dan a go.

For normal, happy-go-lucky Dan I can't help but think of "Everything right is wrong again" by TMBG.
For evil Dan, I'd say 'Vows of Destruction', but since I wrote that specifically for him, it would be cheating.
Hence, it has to be 'Memento Mori' by Moonspell.

I am the moment, the soul
The moment that ends it all...

"Letter from the Lost Days" from the Silent Hill soundtrack is Abel's Story personified. Here's the song on YouTube. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOSffCrC8Fg) ...Only, it's kind of narrated by a little girl, so you kind of need to hone in on the necessary bits :B

Here are the lyrics. (http://www.animelyrics.com/game/silenthill3/letter.htm)

I'll try to think of some more, but this is definitely the best contribution I can offer so far.

Thought of a few more:

Cubi in general:  "Dream Police" by Cheap Trick
Dee:                "Miss Independent" by Kelly Clarkson (Though I like Caswin's ideas better   :U )
Aniz:                "They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha-Haaa!" by Jerry Samuels  (MWAHAHAHA!   :mwaha)
Mows:              "Jaws Theme"   :mowmeep
Delna:              "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)"  by Robert Palmer    :3
(We need to find one for Matilda  :) )

"Ooh... pale.... shadow... she's a dragon..."

Well, right now I can only think of one: Technologic's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" for Jyrras and his gadget's and inventions. Though for some reason I can see Mab doing the Caramelldansen, and it's really appropriate. Or silly, one of the two. That's all I can think of right now, but if I think of more I'll post 'em.

thought of a couple more:

Fae World:  "Everything you know is Wrong" by Weird Al

Alexi:          "Cold as Ice" by Foreigner

What do you mean by "evil Dan"?  He hasn't always been happy-go-lucky, obviously, but I know I don't remember him turning evil at any point.

Well, from Regina's perspective he's pretty evil in 973-974.   >:3

Oh crap, I just remembered one.

Wildy: "The Legend of the Last of the Outlaw Truckers AKA The Ballad of Sherriff Shorty" - The Dandy Warhols. I mean, it kind of fits Wildy if you squint your eyes a little. I mean the song's about someone named Shorty and Wildy's kind of short and I LOVE THIS SONG DON'T JUDGE ME. :C

EDIT: Okay, I remembered another. This one might be more appropriate.

"Vicarious" - Tool. Probably applies to the Cubi race or the Demons, even though the song's about addiction to tragedy. Here are the lyrics. (http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/t/tool/vicarious.html)

The universe is hostile
So impersonal
Devour to survive
So it is, so it's always been...

We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire

Vicariously, I
Live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I.

:hug it's alright keaton... i won't judge you just because your trying really hard to get other people to listen to a song you obviously love...

i thought of one that seems to fit Kria when it comes to Lorenda's friends...

Kria: The Mating Game - Bitter Sweet

I was just thinking of the old James Bond theme "Live and Let Die".  I'm just not sure with whom it would be the best fit.

"Mac the Knife" might fit Kria.

May: You are My Sunshine (version by Norman Blake)
Regina: Master Passion Greed (Nightwish)

And...ah...

Kria: El Macho (Mark Knopfler - Yes, yes, I know. Flip the genders and it's perfect, however.)

Alexsi: Goldion Hammer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rauITkQUFzU) (both the name of the attack and the music playing in the background)
Abel: "I'm Too Sexy" (aka "I'm too sexy for my shirt"), Right Said Fred

Old conversations power go! Back when Amber and I liked to discuss Janus Bond fairly regularly, she considered Garbage's song "The World Is Not Enough" (from the movie of the same name) to be a good theme for the relationship between Doctor Jyrras and Janus Bond.

As for other character themes, I have no idea at this point in time. You just highlighted my memory, is all.

Oh, that is so absolutely perfect.

Well, let me look through my playlist...

Jyrras/Abel: "As Long As You're Mine", from Wicked. Yeah, I know they're not a couple, but it's one of my favorite songs for a couple, and just let me pretend. That, and "In Whatever Time We Have" from Children of Eden. Or Beauty and the Beast, from the Disney movie of the same name. I'll let you decide who's the Beast. Yeah, I'm weird, I know.
Abel: Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Green Day. Especially post-Aniz.
Dan v. Dark Pegasus fight: Duel of the Fates.
Jyrras (towards Dan/Abel): I'm Not That Girl, Wicked. Change the singer's gender, and I can imagine how bad he'd feel if Abel chose someone else.
Dark Pegasus: Still Alive. Okay, not so much anymore, but still...
Janus Bond: The James Bond theme. Really, what other tune is there for him?
Dan: Number One, from Bleach.

And because I feel silly...
Dan v. Regina: I Can't Decide by Scissor Sisters. "I can't decide whether you should live or die..."
Lorenda to Jyrras: If You Were Gay, Avenue Q.
Matilda to Dan: Everyone's a Little Bit Racist, also Avenue Q.
Fa'Lina: Wild and Untamed Thing, The Rocky Horror Picture Show

And... I'm tapped for now.

Why yes, I have a strange collection. Now, to find a theme song for Amber and Fluffy... maybe "Let There Be" (AKA God creates everything after imagining it) from Children of Eden.

Psychotic murderous Dan: tie between "The time to kill is now" - Cannibal Corpse and "Make them suffer" - also Cannibal Corpse
The undead race in general: "Necronomics" - General Surgery
love me some death metal.

Another chance he takes

Not quite what this thread is about, but it fits closer than any others I've seen listed. Last week my mind was churning while I was otherwise mindlessly hauling wood for my bro.

Thinking of Dan (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_526.php) and Abel's (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_537.php) pounce attacks in SAIA, I came up with The Bishi Boys. Amazing sometimes what kind of silly things come out when doing mindless labor.

For Regina in her current predicament, I'm thinking Adios by KMFDM.

Dosvidanija, Ciao, Adieu
Hasta la vista, I'm on my way
Goodbye, Sayonara
Auf nimmerwiedersehen,
Over and out
And down the drain

...translation-wise, I could do with some help on 'Dosvidanija'.  I haven't yet been able to work out what language it is, though it's fairly obvious what it means.  'Auf nimmerwiedersehen' comes out as something like 'never meet again', some bitter opposite of 'see you around'.

Might I add for Dan v. Regina the following, to match the Bond-theme some people went for:
Chris Cornell - You Know My Name

Seriously, just read the lyrics again. Almost all of it fits perfectly. o_o

If you take a life, do you know what you'll give
Odds are, you won't like what it is

I've seen angels fall from blinding heights

another song appropriate for psychotic Dan: Assault Rifle - Agoraphobic Nosebleed http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/agoraphobicnosebleed/split.html#1 (http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/agoraphobicnosebleed/split.html#1)  lyrics VERY NSFW

Dan - Zelda theme music.
Abel - "A Million Ways", by OK Go.
Pyroduck - "4 Minutes and 33 Seconds", by John Cage
Abel's Story - For the last few pages of Ch. 1, and at least part of Ch. 2 - The "Walking Away" music from the Incredible Hulk

Sad to say, a week ago, I would not have gotten that joke.

Okay, one or two more...

Dan: "High Adventure" (it's a cut song from Disney's Aladdin)
Regina: "Diva's Lament (Whatever Happened to My Part?)" from Monty Python's Spamalot.

And I know he's not DMFA material, but...
Darkmoon (from CVRPG): "Run Away!" also from Spamalot.

This thread has caused me to compile a playlist of all the songs i have that fit psycho Dan. Five hours of AWESOME. Which in turn made me think of some more stuff.
Not really a character, but the soundtrack to what i sort of hope happens to Regina: Pounded Into Dust - Cannibal Corpse and Raining Blood - Slayer.

In all seriousness, I think he means your avatar from yesterday. It was the one that went to negative and back, if I remember correctly.

Because I'm silly...
Matilda: "Blue" by Eiffel 65.
Dan: "One Last Drink" by Enter the Haggis. (No, I don't want him to die)
DMFA itself: The Final Fantasy Theme, by Nobuo Uematsu, and in that line of thought...
Dark Pegasus: One Winged Angel (especially the Advent Children version: "I will never be a memory")

He's got a bunch of different avatars all set up in a program on his website: his avatar on this forum changes to a different one at random once a day. If I could remember the link I'd show you his collection.

... My avatar is random. Always. So "yesterday" is no different from "three months ago", other than I think in the last three months there's been one or two additions. Certainly the link on the forum hasn't changed in over 6 months, if not a year or more. And it's not "once a day", it's "whenever your browser requests a new image" - which means, if your browser caches excessively, it'll not rotate. Like IE. If you're using Firefox, it rotates a _lot_.

Hence why my sig has a link to a page with all of them on it, so that people can identify which one, and point me to it, when they complain. And so I can smile and nod, and ignore them... ;-]

I know it's random. That's why I clarified which one you had yesterday, silly Boxy.

And yes, I forgot about the link in your sig. Sorry. Next time someone asks, I won't. Forget, that is.

EDIT:
In an attempt to keep this post slightly on topic...
Regina: "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cydni Lauper (the lyrical dissonance is fun!)
Title: Re: Character theme songs.
Post by: Lisky on March 05, 2009, 03:26:22 PM
found a good one for Merlitz and Aaryanna: Always - Saliva

"I love you, i hate you, i can't live without you"

for Matilda: Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve  seems rather appropriate

For Dan and Regina, although a little too mellow, the song :Take the Money and Run - Steve Miller Band, is somewhat applicable

see, Regina is Bobby-Sue, and Dan is obviously Billy Mack...

And also, i'm surprised no one has said this one yet for Lorenda: Fat Bottom Girls - Queen

Destania - My Evil Plan to Save the World by Five-Iron Frenzy

Jyrras - Alone Again Or by Love

Yeah,
I heard a funny thing
Somebody said to me
You know that I could be
In love
With almost everyone
I think that people are
The greatest fun...

May: "Mama" - My Chemical Romance

"She said: 'You ain't no son of mine
For what you've done they're gonna find
A place for you
And just you mind your manners when you go.
And when you go, don't return to me, my love.'"

full lyrics here (http://www.metrolyrics.com/mama-lyrics-my-chemical-romance.html)

I'm such a whore.

Dan and Regina (bittersweet): "Kiss" - Korn
"The last thing I would like to do before I go away
is cry there next to you
Cry and talk about the good old days and where they've gone
And now how much I hate you

....

I feel the blood drip off my body as it falls right there
on the ground
What am I now?"

full lyrics here (http://www.lyricstime.com/korn-kiss-lyrics.html)

Since I think they had a romantic relationship at some point, and Regina used the trust to try to destroy his life, I found this song appropriate. :c But it makes it sound like Dan still loves Regina. Bleh. I'll find a more violent song later.

I LISTEN TO SUCH EMO MUSIC. WHAT.

Wildy. She'd probably like to be something rockish (and suggestive) like "Pandora's Box" by Aerosmith or even something catchy like "I Can't Decide" by Scissor Sisters. To me, however, she'll always be "Little Girls" by Oingo Boingo... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jItz-uNjoZA) And not just because of the apparent theme. Listen closely, and then think about it...

Also, since Jonathan Coulton has been mentioned, I feel obliged to mention "Skullcrusher Mountain", which is somewhat relevant to Destania.

As for Abel, my other favorite character beside Wildy?

...

'Masquerade! Paper faces on parade! Masquerade! Hide your face so the world will never find you...!'

after watching 28 days later...

Abel's story part 1: In the house, in a heartbeat - John Murphy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSYYEDXaGo0)

it seems especially appropriate, although it has no lyrics, the beat, and feel of the song feels... right...

Lyrics:
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me

This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

Edit: for Dark Pegasus I have "Dead Again" by Tom Smith.

Not really along the lines of character theme songs, but....

Dan's attitude towards Regina - Cry for help by Shinedown (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gncuQas1P8)

Or at least it fits for the most recent meeting between Dan and Regina.
