Title: 12/11/08 [DMFA #955] - The waiting rooms practically double as buffets.
Post by: Jairus on December 11, 2008, 04:03:39 AM
Damn, Jyrras was cute in high school! Maybe it's just the shyness: stop holding your tail like that! And he had shorter hair, and he wasn't wearing his glasses yet either. Interesting. Poor guy... no luck in the romance area. Though, really, no surprise there. As for the other bit... heeheehee. That is actually kind of interesting. I never cease to be surprised by how many career options Cubi can take. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised, though, considering Amber's track record.

Keep holding on Amber! You can make it!

EDIT: And Amber, we can forgive you for a few late/missed updates. You've got a lot on your plate now.

Aww.. :< Poor Jyrras. Like Jay said, he sure wasn't very lucky when it came to romance. And.. Dentistry? Now I can't help but picture Dr. Ink as a dentist.

Yeesh. I have enough trouble trusting dentist as it is. If I had a dentist like Ink, I'd probably cringe in a corner in terror in a fetal position at the very mention of the word dentist. And on a slightly different note I agree with everything Jairus just said. Hang in there Amber you'll pull through! :hug I only wish I had money to give to you. :< But I also have a question for Jairus, why am I not surprised you started this topic?

Anybody out there remember the dentist's office scene from Little Show of Horrors (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091419/).  There were also some funny scenes in Finding Nemo;

My daughter had braces and root canal work when she was young.  She definitely does not like dentists.

I don't know what the number one choice was, but I suspect that IRS auditor would be up there, or whatever the equivalent is in Furrae.

Poor Jyrras.  I must say the canine looks cute, though.

**EDIT**
Actually, it's probably best she passed him by... if they were married and Jyrras realised he was gay later, it would get kind of ugly.

About the auction venue... I wasn't sure if ebay actually allowed you to sell art commissions and so forth.  Apparently it does:
'Commission your own pet portrait' (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Commission-your-own-pet-portrait-drawing_W0QQitemZ250337861784QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_art_drawings_GL?hash=item250337861784&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318).
A cameo appearance is a bit more vague, though... in the pet portrait, you are being sold a physical item, i.e. you do end up with the original.  In the cameo strips, it's a bit more ethereal since it's a webcomic.

Jyrras started wearing his glasses around age 11. He's at least a teenager in this strip.

He must be really babyfaced. I can't imagine rodents having so little interaction with larger species in Furrae that people automatically assume they're kids due to the size difference. Ferrets certainly don't have this problem.

The evidence seems to indicate that he swings both ways, so I don't see why that would necessarily turn ugly. (I know a few happily married bisexuals--one guy's wife even buys him gay porn. >:]) Besides, how does one not realize something like that until after marriage? He's had a schoolboy crush on Dan since he was actually a schoolboy, after all. :3

You can sell services like web design or artwork comissions on eBay. Last I checked, digital deliverables are okay so long as they don't violate any other restrictions (http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/items-ov.html). I do wonder what the problem with Furbid is, though, since that seemed to work pretty well last time. Is the password recovery feature broken?

Hmm, Tez beat me to it, but I think Jyrras' interest in Lorenda is evidence that he's not necessarily gay.  Were he gay I don't think he'd have even considered pursuing her.  I suppose though, it could be that he's just following societal norms and that in his desperation to be with someone his mistook his affection for her as being attraction.  I dunno, I guess it's really hard to say without factoring in a few other things.

Point on the crush-on-Dan thing, though realising that you prefer guys later in life is something that does apparently happen on occasion.  (I wish I could remember the name of the MP went like that in the late 90s)

I've never needed to use it, but there are a whole raft of possibilities.  Amber might have forgotten the answer the the challenge question if it works that way - for example the MSDN thing asked for the name of my dog and then refused to accept it because it was less than 5 characters long.  So apparently I'm supposed to rename my (deceased) dog just for Microsoft.

It might be that it's tied to a defunct email address.  Or it might be - since someone here said they couldn't create an account - that they're simply having administration problems period.

Heh, poor Jyrras.  At least he'll never probably have the curse of looking old.  People tend to take looking young as a compliment; at least women do.

Though except for being carded, what he goes through seems to be the worst part of looking younger than you are.  One of my college classmates asked me how old I was, and that I looked like a teenager.  "I'm 22!" I said.  She goes, "Oh, so you're not a 'baby' baby."  That and I'm a bit of a short person.

Karmic payback for thinking once that college is full of old people, I think.  :rolleyes

Of course, if one *is* a mind reader, it might allow other means of detection of intent to atrophy. Abel's already had to remind himself pointedly that he can't emotion jammer Jyrras, it could easily follow that he's bad at reading faces and intent without an accompanying empathetic look.

I'm talking about his physical reactions, like how he frequently gets flustered when around Abel but makes not attempt to leave, or how he avoids eye contact with Abel, the fact that he's come out all of a sudden, and the only difference is that Abel is here now.

Heh. Jyrras is still too young to appreciate it. His dad certainly made it work for him (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_328.php).

I do kinda know how he feels, being rather babyfaced myself. One of the most amusing incidents occured when I was involved with an afterschool tutoring program at a local high school. When I walked through the door, the librarian looked at me and said, "I'm sorry, you'll have to leave your coat and bag in your locker."

"Excuse me?"

"It's school policy." She pointed to the sign.

I laughed when it finally clicked. "I'm the teacher..."

EDIT: being half kangaroo or whatever he would have half kangaroo features...but since there are no true  halves  according to Amber, she could have been making a judgment based on size or voice difference in comparison to that of his gargantuan sister.

Well, if they were prescription goggles, it would make sense to have both so that he could still see when he needed goggles. Since they're not, they make exactly as much sense as wearing glasses just for show. :animesweat

But he doesn't have any kangaroo features. He's been mistaken for a mouse, but not a kangaroo...

It's one thing to be outed later in life. It's quite another to go for decades without noticing that you're attracted to other guys. I'm extremely skeptical of anyone who claims it works that way; that particular psychological condition preferentially targets public figures who need to play to social conservatives. And married guys whose wives discover they don't really go out to play poker on Thursdays. Not that kind of poker, anyway... >:]

When I read this, I immediately thought of kids using their bags or coats to steal books(Or movies/music, if the library has a selection of those also).
An instructor would need to keep his or her supplies, and would be an adult who would(in theory) be mature and *not* attempt to steel books or anything else.

I don't know what the number one choice was, but I suspect that IRS auditor would be up there, or whatever the equivalent is in Furrae.

I think another possibility is perhaps human (being) resources. An entire company's workforce to keep on edge!
Wasn't that Catbert's job on the Dilbert comic strip.

My understanding was that the reason that students were to leave their coats in the lockers was to avoid "clutter".  The sheer volume of coats and other protective gear was deemed not conducive to study.

Of course, the "educational experts" in the 1960's and 1970's decided to cut the size of the lockers in half.  These geniuses also developed a number of schools which were divided between several buildings that were connected by unprotected walkways.  (This wasn't in the warm southern climes.  These were areas where the weather often dropped below freezing.) The students were still expected to keep coats in the lockers.  Meanwhile, another group of geniuses doubled the size of the books while another reduced the amount of time between classes.

These "experts" were in the United States.  I don't know if you dealt with the same problem in other countries.

He referred to himself as "The Director of Disgruntled Cat Toys".

This is exactly where my line of thinking came from. ;3
