Reminds me of when I did/still am doing concept junk for my comic, which does involve a cubi and a warp-aci at some point. I gotta work on that again when I can...story better.
And I was there once when someone stole Amber's art. Didn't even erase copyright junk, just claimed it was heres. Whole reason I originally joined deviantART.
Edit:
Corrected the thread title.

Don't worry Amber: this is one aspiring writer/artist who won't forget you if he gets that far. :hug
Don't Fret Amber, you'll get your cut. :3

That sounds awfully socialist if you ask me. Maybe she should take a line from Joe the Plumber:

OMG LAST PANEL SO ADORABLE D:
OMG... That is the cutest hobo I have ever seen. :eager
I'd give amber food for free :3
Needs more organ grinder and fluffy with a fez.
Hmmm. This reminds me of something, but I don't know what. Ah well.
Never fear, Amber, once I make my first million, you will recieve a 10% donation from me on an annual basis!
In some near future I may ask for a cameo from one of the DMFA cast, but would never just go and slap the characters as my own. I can't even imagine someone else doing something stupid like that. I mean, they can get caught in fraud so easily, someone would just ask them to draw something similar and they won't be able to. Stealing art is not only wrong it's moronic!
Arrgh ! must shut brain off from last image ! :<
Thats a scary image Amber, I look forwards to the little self satire/portrait pages as much as anything else ( I mean who can forget the Amberpiller ) .
Well if I ever win the lottery I will set up a special artist fund , in the meantime I guess I will simply show my ongoing enjoyment with my ongoing support.
It's kind of amusing that I've brought up this exact subject with Amber before.
I've been concocting all manner of ideas for a webcomic project, and I asked Amber if she minded me using a character based on Fi; The character wouldn't really have much in common outside of his apperance and name, but I didn't invent him and it's only fair that I ask, if only out of politeness.
As I told Keaton, Project Future is currently running at a glorious profit of -$11 USD per month. If you'd like a cut, I can accept Paypal :3

That and put up a note stating where the character came from, including a link. That way, if you
do make it big, your traffic will flow back to Amber...
it's kind of funny that the internet is the one place trickle-down economics actually seems to <i>work</i> to a degree. of course, you need to be sure your website can handle it. a sudden influx of several gigs worth of traffic can make some sites go kablooie.
and good old art thieves...the lot of them need a collective punch in the mouth.
Well, that answers the main question I came to these forums with.
......Wait, now that means I'm going to have to write whatever it is I was thinking of writing. :U
Goodbye life, hello unfinished project number 5.
Meh, unless it's porn, it won't make any money anyway. :P

Art thieves are scum, but the ones that would steal from still starving artists are the scummiest of them all! (Though, I have respect for the guys who stole the Mona Lisa, then returned it.) Whether I end up being inspired by your work, or using it in some fashion, credit will be given where credit is due, you have my promise there! No homeless Ambers and Fluffies on my account!

I don't know if you've been following the US presidential election, but in one of the debates, John McCain kept talking about a guy named Samuel Wurzelbacher, a relative of Charles Keating and contractor who was thinking of buying a company with annual profits of $150,000. When combined with his income of $40,000, he was worried that it would push his income over $250,000 per year and result in higher taxes under Obama's plan, despite the fact that he doesn't pay his taxes anyway.
For some strange reason, McCain kept calling this guy Joe the Plumber, and attacked Obama for wanting to ``spread the wealth around.'' This was quickly expanded to a campaign strategy of people calling themselves ``<name> the <job>''. They even set up a website where you can make signs (http://www.johnmccain.com/actioncenter/joe/), which quickly became a Fark cliché. That's where the sign came from.
Yeah, it's been a screwy election year.

That twisted malform that I call a character (as seen in my tower thread) is based on an idea from Amber, but not necessarily DMFA. It's a nictarl, same as Boko.
@ Amber person, If it makes you feel better I _Always_ let you know immediately after I've used or drawn any of your characters... mostly because I doubt anyone could make monies off of your characters but you... except for Archie, especially when it's an obvious rip off.
but if you want advanced warning of something I have been working on a nymph's reply to the Merlitz meets a human arc.... I'm not going to upload until after it's finished, that way You can't ninja the plot... and you know my plots always have two or three hidden extras.
:mowninja
DMFA inspired me to go the cute shortie route with my personal characters. After all being of no imposing stature myself it seemed to make sense!

Guilty. Though character ideas tend to come to me like moths to a flame. Backstories and beyond is where the real challenge and fun starts in my opinion.
Eek. I know I've gotten inspiration from a lot of different sources. Sometimes I even go far enough as to say the exact mixture of "inspiration" I got... Though I'm only guilty of ripping off in one case, and in that one I totally admit it. Don't worry, Amber, it's not you, and I pretty much tell people right away he's basically a rip-off of another character - that character being Dante, and my character being an 'homage' of him named Reynard Fenris. XD
I have this habit of finding 'themesongs' for my characters, too... For example, a recent Paladin charrie of mine has apparently adopted "Holy Orders," from the Guilty Gear soundtrack.
...
I've so badly wanted to make an animated .gif of Sol Badguy saying "F*** you, I'm a dragon!" XD
My insperation comes from the oddest sources myself. I have creations that only exist if you take Sailor Moon, Zelda, Ragnarok Online, and a few other small things in a pot and let it mix into some type of totally unrecognizable mush.

*Charline de Lyon, the super-ebil cubi who regards Fa'lina as competition and Dr. Ink as her great nemesis... has no idea who has done that!* Can't name anyone off-paw... :3

Quite a lot of people. Far more than have so far responded. Myself, I have a particularly bad habit of going "Ooh, that looks cool" and borrowing it.
My character - the guy in my avatar - was ultimately derived from the wolf-like 'Cubi in this strip:
http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_561.php
...though I probably wouldn't have gone with it if it weren't for the fact that DMFA doesn't seem to have many wolves.
Another one of my characters, Dorcan, was originally inspired by the dog incubus here:
http://missmab.com/Demo/Cubi03.php
...in both cases they have gone their own way since, which is as it should be. At the end of the day, it was DMFA which made me even consider doing such a thing.

ffff
every single character I have :I
Truth be told, i get my inspiration from many sources, incase folks are curious, the Cubi in foxfire are primarily only aesthetically inspired by DMFA, i've discussed with a certain ferret to help add my own unique twist to 'em. :3
