Alrighty folks I'm thinking on starting an RP as a GM. This will be a MA rated sci-fi space themed RP with 3-5 players. I need to say strait up that good spelling and english skills are a requirement due to the fact I'm dyslexic, sorry if that chases some people off.
Basic plot line is this:
The CSV-M349 (Civilian Salvage Vessel-Modular 349) Salvage ship called "The Thrill of the Chase" is in dock to resupply and her Captain and pilot are looking for some fresh hands to crew her. The "Thrill" as she is known has been wildly successful despite only being 3 terran years old, but that success is tempered by the fact that the large risks that comes with deep space salvage.
Depending on interest I will post up a character template and the profiles of the Captain and pilot. Humans and Alien Characters are the name of the game and if you wanna go furred you gets to be an alien simple no?
I should also add there will be a very minor stat, equipment and experience system.
Edit: As there seems to be some interest I shall post the stats system. I'll be using a modified version of the SPECIAL system. SPECIAL is:
Strength: How strong the character is and how much weight they can carry at any one time.
Perception: How well the character can see and how observant they are.
Endurance: Overall heath and fitness of the character.
Charisma: How charismatic the character is. Used in stores and the like for better prices.
Intelligence: How intelligent the character is.
Agility: Measures how agile the character is.
Luck: How lucky the character is. Just for that off chance you find something rare...or the booby trap under it.
Each character starts off with all stats at 5 and has a further 5 points to spend. You can lower stat points and add them to another but may not lower one past 2 or add past 10.
ie- 10 in Intelligence would mean a genius where as a score of 2 would mean barely able to speak and be understood.
Also there are traits which can modify these scores and you may pick one of these:
Minor Cybernetics: Add one extra point to any stat but not past 10. Due to the massive costs of cybernetics at this point you have very poor starting equipment and have no cash. (Possible upgrade available later)
Thin Framed: Add one point to agility but lose carrying ability as it is only 3/4 of normal.
Brute: Add one point to strength but lose movement speed. (This is up to you to RP properly)
Military Training: Take 1 Major 5 Minor skills instead of 2/2
Gifted: Add one point to all stats but start with no major skills and only one minor.
Skilled: Lose 3 stat points but add 2 more major skills and 1 minor.
Night Vision: Able to see in darkness as if it were daylight. Sensitivity to blight lights.
More traits may be added later and may be taken/replaced retroactively.
So the Character sheet looks like this:
Name:
Age:
Species/race/Birth Planet:
Sex:
S:
P:
E:
C:
I:
A:
L :
Trait:
Appearance:
Clothing:
History:
Trivia:
Skills: List 4 skills here 2 major 2 minor ie- Major: electrical engineer degree. Minor: Firearms proficiency .But please be realistic and take note of the fact that all characters are meant to be fairly new to the job. Also due to a conversation with Llearch a major skill may be taken as a minor skill but would count as partial knowledge and treated like that character was on an apprenticeship and seeking to complete that training, this applies to one skill per character only and must be labeled as such.
I'll give an example with the Captain (Note while he has the gifted trait being the most experienced character he as earned many skills)
Name: William Connor
Age: 35
Species/race/Birth Planet: Human/Terran/Earth
Sex: Male
S: 6
P: 7
E: 6
C: 6
I: 8
A: 8
L : 6
Trait: Gifted
Appearance: Approximately 178cm tall Will is caucasian with shortly cropped blond hair and grey eyes and a goatee beard and mustache. While not bulky is is of above average muscle mass. He has an air of command mixed with that of a rogue.
Clothing: Will is normally clad in the uniform of the Thrill of the Chase which is a jumpsuit with velcro patches for his name on his chest and the ships emblem on the shoulders.
History: The biggest, most agile and smartest child of his age group Will didn't need to push himself to achieve his goals and that lead to not pushing himself and his skills and knowledge to the level that his peers did. When he came of age he enlisted in the UNSF navy but due to his poor math and science skills that he had not concentrated on he was knocked back. Undeterred William hit the books and did bridging courses until he had the required knowledge to pass the exam for officers school. While his academic shortcomings held him back in some classes, in others he excelled graduating in the top 15 of his class. After serving 10 years on various ships and stations of the UNSF fleet Will decided to branch out and seek his fortune and perhaps some fun. Buying a beaten up old cargo hauler Will stared running cargo till one day he ran across a derelict shuttle. Inside, the shuttle's hold was filled with platinum and by law his to salvage and sell. Scrapping the old ship William headed to the Alpha Centori shipyards, the biggest and most advanced in Earth controlled space. Spending a few months searching for his new vessel, finally deciding on the CSV-M349 which while the size of a frigate could be crewed as few as two due to extensive automation and christened her the "Thrill of the Chase". Now that he had a new ship Will had the salvage bug in his veins and hired a crew. With his skill at sniffing out the rarest of salvage he and the Thrill of the Chase quickly became known as the "Go anywhere get anything King". Now after one of the best hauls ever his crew has decided to retire and live off the spoils.
Trivia: Still has many contacts inside the UNSF
Skills: Major: Astonavigation, Leadership, Frigate/Fighter/Shuttle Handling, Salvage, Ship to Ship Combat. Minor: Firearms handling, EVA suit proficiency , medical, electronics, mechanical, Trading/Bartering.
Name: Ephrael Falco
Age: 23
Species/race/Birth Planet: Bio-engineered Anthropomorphic Tasmanian Devil/Terran/Earth
Sex: Female
S: 4
P: 10
E: 4
C: 5
I: 7
A: 8
L : 5
Trait: Minor Cybernetic Implants: Eyes and Ears (Upgraded)
Appearance: Only standing at 150cm Ephrael is a small black and white furred with red hair Tasmanian Devil, one you had taken and engineered to stand on two legs and with human intelligence, ability's and body shape. Due to the advanced nature of her implants Ephrael's eyes look a very natural blue.
Clothing: Like her Captain, Ephrael wears a jumpsuit with velcro patches for her name on her chest and the ships emblem on the shoulders. However when sitting in the pilots hot seat she ties the upper half around her wiast exposing what ever undershirt she has on that day, many of them with designs from the bands and holovid shows she watches.
History: In the middle of the 21th century scientists based in Tasmania, Australia created their first bio-engineered humanoid from spliced human and Tasmanian Devil DNA. As these hybrids were adopted into society they began to resent the second class treatment they received. When matters hit boiling point they rebeled, as they had the best part cropped from both human and Tasmanian Devils their ability's enabled them to take control of most of the island state. As no UN troops were available to retake Tasmania at the time negotiations took place and control of the island was left in the Devils hands. As a sign of good faith and the promise recognition as a free people the Devils re-entered Tasmania back into the Australian Commonwealth. As it stands now there is a ban on creating new races of sentient engineered races in human space, however those that were created before the ban were given their freedom by a majority vote in the UN high council. Those breeds have integrated into human society and followed them into the stars. As the hybrids have human dna interbreeding is possible but generally result in human offspring.
Ephrael is the result of a Human-Hybrid mating on earth but left as a one year old as her parents moved to Alpha Centori to work on the shipyards there as designers and consultants. Growing up around advanced ship designs and technology Ephrael was fascinated by them at an early age, stating almost from the time she was a toddler she wanted to pilot spaceships. Unfortunately during her early teens Ephrael while playing with friends stumbled into a open work hatch, and suffered horrible wounds to her eyes losing her sight after making contact with an high pressure plasma leak. As her parents had the resources Ephrael received cybernetic implants which restored her sight and improved it. After recovering Ephrael threw herself into her studies and soon entered a private academy for piloting and related skills. Upon graduating she kept close to home helping her parents by testing out new equipments and designs. One day she encountered a blond human man, who had been on the station a few months and had recently bought and was outfitting a ship she and her parents had designed and tested. After chatting to him over the course of days she took up the position of pilot for Captain William Connor.
Trivia: When off duty Ephrael has been known to dance around the corridors of the Thrill of the Chase in her underwear listening to a audio device, generally late 20th early 21st century music.
Known to prior crews and other pilots as the "queen of situational awareness".
She has been able with Will's help to acquire the latest in enhanced cybernetics for her eyes which appear to be normal and a small implant in either ear.
As the test pilot for the CSV-M349 class of vessels Ephrael is able to push the Thrill of the Chase to the absolute limit.
Has a blue heart shaped tattoo on her left buttcheek.
Skills: Major: Frigate/Shuttle/Cargo/Super Large Cargo Handling, Astronavigation. Minor: EVA suit proficiency, Mechanical, Electronics(hacking) .
llearch as useful ever has provided us with a very handy condensed roster page for us. http://llearch.net/misc/rp/TotC/
I'm in.
Awesomesauce
I'm a sucker for teh sci-fies. I CALL THE ENGINEER SLOT! ^_^ (with specialization in robotics, of course >:3)
EDIT: ooh, ooh, ooh, are our adventures going to look anything like this? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq4xnjGukYc&feature=related) (except without the explodey at the end, though even if we do go explodey, it will still have been with much awesome ;)) If so, NOTHING will keep me out of this!
While there will be some EVA activity's Tech its more likely to be set inside ships than in cold space. As for calling dibs on a position...Well lets just say you should wait till we have enough people playing and I can post the stats system.
I may be stretching things a bit with too many RPs, but I may jump aboard with a modification of the character from Arc's DSE game that died out before it got good. We shall see after I see the stats system, I am not a fan of homebrew game systems.
I have an interest in this. I seem to remember someone starting up a Space themed RP at some point.
I'm definitely stretching this too far, considering the amount of RPs I'm in, but I'm definitely interested. I think I'll join; I can adapt one of my original characters to fit a more sci-fi environment.
~Keaton the Black Jackal
Alrighty I think this counts as enough people to start feeding you some info :P
*cheers for the Jackal showing interest...especially as she's the one who prodded me into this :P*
Look to the first post in a bit peoples
I'm afraid I'm out, the character I wished to use would not fit the SPECIAL system and Locklear would never forgive me for having to compromise on him.
Fair enough Azlan!
What are the tech levels in your world, specifically in the field of robotics? What are the typical capabilities of the AIs for robots? And are there any provisions for actually being a robot?
If yes, than I can see some evil little minmaxing I can do. I might seriously try to play an astromech-style droid in a very similar way to that one player from the Darths and Droids webcomic :mwaha
If not, then I guess I can still be the guy who makes the droids >:3
That bee a good question Tech sorry I didn't address that at the beginning. The average technology level in the human sector is that of off a hundred and fifty years from now.
Fusion/fission engines are the main power plants for civilian craft while the military has access to the new ion propulsion systems.
Robotics is fairly advanced with AI controlled drones with anti-grav platforms but these always have a human overseer so no autonomous AIs are running around.. Cybernetics are tightly controlled and expensive.
There are four main types of sidearms available: Pulse Lasers, Traditional Firearms, Railgun and Plasma. Lasers have a high penetrating ability but do little damage per shot as it mostly goes right through the target with a thin beam. Traditional Firearms are effective with a range of ammunition and cheap, how ever except for some restricted ammunition types damage is less than both the Railgun and Plasma types and penetration is less than Lasers. Railguns are extremely expensive and mostly seen in military armory's as they have the penetrating power of a laser weapon and inflict a high amount of damage to a target, has two types of round that the weapon itself produces from the metal blocks used as ammunition: Solid rounds and Shredder rounds. Lastly Plasma weapons which again are extremely expensive and a not a civilian certified weapon so is seen only in use buy the military, the weapon fires bolts of magnetically shaped plasma which on impact cause massive damage literally melting the target away.
All weapon types come in Handguns Assault Rifles and Marksman Rifles. Only the Traditional Firearms have the shotgun but the Railgun's Shredder rounds are an analog.
Anything else you need to know?
Name: John Weaver; known as "Weaves" to his classmates.
Age: 18
Species/race/Birth Planet: Caucasian human, born in transit between systems.
Sex: Male
S: 4
P: 10
E: 5
C: 6
I: 8
A: 7
L: 7
Trait: Gifted
Appearance:
Low average height; fairly thin, and not terribly well muscled (although he's working on that); has a tattoo that one of his mates got him drunk and paid for, while he was unconscious, across the back of his left shoulder blade: a curving oriental dragon, with the claws apparently grabbing onto his shoulder, and the head looking over his shoulder. He claims he was pissed as hell at the mate in question, but secretly (or not so secretly) is actually fairly pleased at it. Plain brown hair and blue eyes; otherwise a fairly average looking young man.
Clothing:
Reasonably well turned out for his interview; even polished his boots, and pressed his coveralls. More usually wearing slightly rumpled overalls, hiking boots (in case a mountain should suddenly appear in space, you know) and has various pockets with useful tools and things in them.
Also has a leather "pilots jacket" he wears on dock, or in unheated areas on-ship, which he picked up a way back when he was wandering through a shop somewhere, and thought it was cool.
History:
Born in space, Weaves grew up around ships; not that unusual, these days. After the usual basic school courses, he went in for pilot's training, and managed to learn enough to get a licence before running out of money. He's now looking for a chance to both save up for some advanced training, and perhaps pick up some on-the-job training as a pilot. Or in whatever else he might learn; he's fond of claiming that "any day on which you learn something is a worthwhile."
During basic pilots training, had a year off after an accident in formation; everyone pulled right, except for the guy on his right, who pulled left. A nasty collision later, and a short shower of "aluminium rain", and Weaver was lucky to manage to hold half of his shuttle together long enough for the resultant crash; the other guy ended up embedded in the seat behind him, having ploughed his shuttle upside down and directly through Weavers (to give you some idea of just how badly the pooch got screwed...) After recovering from surgery to replace the arm and leg he lost, he spent the intervening time doing book work and theory; on the upside, he did catch the news report about some artifacts being recovered by a particular salvage ship, one Thrill of the Chase.
Since then, he's been fairly directed in where he went - picking training for flying based on the same ship class, etc. He's now out looking for a chance to learn his craft, and possibly pick up a little of that "old space dog" shine... And fulfil a dream or two, if he's lucky.
Trivia:
- Has an affinity for practical jokes; tends to be careful about them (in that space Does Not Take Prisoners) but enjoys playing them anyway.
- Tested high kinaesthetic; he always knows where he is in relation to the objects around him. Useful in a pilot.
- Also has done a little martial arts, as a hobby/exercise, but hasn't really had more than a year or so of training in it; enough to keep him reasonably fit, but not enough to actually provide him with any real benefit in a fight, other than being aware that it won't provide him any real benefit, and knowing that actual fighting is very very different to the dojo. Mostly he does it to keep up his awareness of his surroundings.
- Happens to like poking about in machinery in his off time; took a class or two in it, so knows enough to not lick the mains cord, but didn't have the spare money to actually cross-train in it.
- Picked up his nickname from both his surname and his training pilots lessons back in school; he managed to wend his way through an almost unnavigable training scenario by weaving unexpectedly between asteroids, incoming craft, and various other obstacles. Other than causing the trainer in the seat next to him to lose his lunch, he picked up the moniker when said trainer (after straightening up, and wiping his face) turned to him and asked "Were you trying to weave a rug?" ... He still passed, though...
Skills:
Shuttle/Frigate Ship Handling (Apprentice)
Edit:
Credit Balance: 2300 credits (savings for the second level course; he's not hugely happy about using them, but if it gets him through into the chance to win something more...)
Equipment: (TBD)
Oh so very much accepted Llearch!! Welcome to the crew!
So do you have a list of the major/minor skills that we can choose from?
At the moment no it is up to the players to decide on that they think they want to be skilled in. I can always lend assistance towards this though. *Points To the PM MSN YIM buttons*
*Dances for having JSR showing interest*
Edit: I should make that a bit clearer. Basically you could chose Minor: Hoddog cooking if you thought it would be useful...So at the moment you are unfetted by a list and only reliant on practicality and your imagination.
Badger Rustling
Ship Handling
Lion Taming
Bobcat Wrestling
Fishing
Cutting Bait
...
Hey if you think it will work take it :P
Sorry, my char already has his skills chosen. ;-]
Maybe next time?
Name: Theodore "Theo" Ambrosius
Age: 23
Species/race/Birth Planet: Anthropomorphic Raccoon, Bio-engineered intelligence, Ked-Morial
Sex: Male
S:4
P:5
E:4
C:10
I:10
A:4
L : 3
Trait: None
Appearance: Slim, easy-smiling and long haired, often seen in a pair of crisp black slacks, white shirt, half-moon glasses and a nondescript, blank lab coat. Hair is red, as is most of the rest of him, with the typical raccoon mask around his face and eyes. The eyes themselves are a captivating green, and the man is endowed with a trustworthy, confident demeanor.
Clothing: Crisp black slacks, white shirt, doctor's labcoat.
History: College was a period of easy days and good living for Theo, who always having a literary bent easily finished with a Master's degree in English. The graduation party, however, while festive and bright, carried with it an undertone of dark things to come. As the prospective member of society realized that his school loans would begin to come back to haunt him, and he still wasn't sure exactly what it was that he wanted to do with himself, with his fancy new piece of paper.
Months later, as money in his bank account started to dwindle, he realized his options were getting low. Finding a teaching job was a lot harder than he'd counted on it being, and with a lack of options, he turned like so many to space for his fortune. However, having a Master's in English was not a greatly sought-after skill. He realized that if he didn't want to be peeling meteors out of ship hulls for the rest of his life, a small embellishment on his resume might be in order.
Being an English major, Theo was unique suited to lie through his teeth. A few interviews later, and he found himself applying as the ship's doctor of the Thrill of the Chase salvaging vessel.
Despite the fact that Theo had no actual medical licensee, experience, or knowledge, he was confident that he'd at least be able to fake it good enough to make it through a trip or two and pay off his loans. After all, he'd only be expected to work on two, three different sorts of life forms? He'd read bigger books than medical textbooks in a week. How hard could it be?
Trivia: Theo is a compulsive and yet masterful liar.
Despite his deceptive streak, is very intelligent and empathetic. Wrote a startlingly good master's thesis comparing "Crime and Punishment" to the "Ballad of Reading Gaol".
Skills:
Major Skills: Bluff, English Literature
Minor: Calligraphy, Fast Talking
Cog: Approved! Good to have you!
Damn, Cog, your char's got a maxed-out Intelligence too?
Haven't been able to work on my profile yet, but Intelligence is the automatic first thing on the list...
I find it amusing that everyone wants to have a rocket scientist so far :P
I would have thought he'd need more luck, but whatever...
glad to have you onboard, Cog. Assuming the Doc can manage to, ah, bluff his way onboard. ;-]
Edit:
I've adjusted the profile of Weaves to tag his minor skill as an apprenticeship, after Pal pointed it out to me that that's what he meant. ;-]

English major who is just intelligent and charismatic enough to bluff himself into a position he has no knowledge, experience, or reasonable expectation of being able to do, for long-term, where lives might depend on him?
You call this man lucky? ;3
Good point.
Name: Celine Walker, nickname: Elf

L : 6
Trait: Thin framed/small stature; Night vision/light sensitivity
Appearance: petite (4'6" 137cm) thin framed platinum blonde hair dyed black at the ends. Unusually large pale blue eyes, quite light sensitive
Clothing: Tends to wear close-fitting but rather plain clothing in dark colors. Having grown up in a junkyard she got used to clothing that wouldn't catch or stain. Secretly covets brightly colored girly clothing.
History:
One side effect of the ban against creating new sentient races was scientists turning to "optimization" of humans for specific conditions. No one remembers what they were trying to optimize Celine's ancestors for, but one of her fondest wishes is to someday travel back in time and kick them a good one. Celine suffers from "cute." Small (4'6") with strangely large eyes and pale coloration she has a problem getting respected as an adult (and getting past the nickname Elf). She does use the cute to her advantage to get her way. She does have a temper though and has been in her share of fights.
Celine's family were junk dealers. Her home planet, only known as KMC-257 was turned into a dumping ground after it's original colonizer, Kimberline Mining corporation, had stripped it of it's mineral wealth. The former employees who didn't leave with the corporation turned from mining the ground to mining the garbage piles. Celine's parents had a moderately successful reclamation business that she worked in from the time she was a child. Unfortunately it isn't successful enough to support the entire family so Celine left home looking for work.
Trivia: Very light sensitive, has a pair of sunglasses on her at all times.

Welcome to the crew Mel!! *rubs his and together in glee and plots evil things to do to the players*
Gettin' close to done with mah profile, I'll PM it to you when I'm done. Might need to work a few things out.
EDIT: Also, is anyone going to actually be a combat expert/guard? At this point, if my char is approved he'll have the only weapons in the whole crew! :mowdizzy
... Why would you need a guard on a salvage vessel? It's not like the scrap is going to fight back, is it?

Space pirates! Duh!
And on another note, it looks like you guys may have just lost what little protection my char was going to give altogether. He didn't make it :cry
Surely the GM provided some suggestions for adjusting your char to meet the requirements of the setting?
Feel free to re-apply with another Character Tech at any time.
Name: Jaesguamarj (0r Jaes for short)
Age: 37
Species/race/Birth Planet: Feline/Ani-elf/Yurian
Sex: Male
Strength: 9
Perception: 8
Endurance: 10
Charisma: 3
IQ: 5
Agility: 7
Luck : 5
Trait: Gifted
Appearance: Stands at 5'10. Has a slave brand on his right arm (which he usually covers with a red sash). A large scar runs across his torso. Though at 37 years of age, he looks about half that thanks to his strange heritage, so many mistake him as as older teen (which he practically is for his race).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/jaguarstarrunner/JaesandJoy3.jpg (left hand side)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/jaguarstarrunner/Jaes2.jpg
Clothing: (see above pic) Aged casual clothing which has been nearly reduced to rags. He is rarely seen without the sash on his arm. Though he does have moccasins, he can usually go without unless the place he's entering requires shoes.
History: -His world-
About 75 years ago, a massive human colony ship crash landed on Yurian, a world which previously had no humans on it. Many of the human officers died, creating a lawless people. A few mated with the elves who lived there, creating the half elves. Generally though the tension was high between the humans and the elves and later went to war. The humans were merciless on that planet, making slaves out of the natives. Once an UNSF scout ship came, they chastised the human refugees and aided the elves with technological knowledge.
-His Race-
Used to be half elves, but during the elf/human war, they were heavily persecuted and treated as spies from both sides. To avoid conflict, many fled into the savage jungles where their druids turned them more animal-like so that they could more easily cope with their new home and to avoid future detection as half elves.
-Personal History-
Lived quietly in his early years until humans finally stumbled upon their wilderness home. Jaes watched in horror as many of his people were cut down or imprisoned to be later used as slaves. Jaes and his mother were sold to a crime ring lord who used them for heavy labor for many years. Many years later the death of the crime lord's sickly son began to go make him go mad, wrongfully accusing Jaes' mother of murder and began to beat on her. When Jaes came to defend her, he was nearly cut in two by the lord's broadsword (giving him his massive scar). Despite the injury, Jaes ended up killing the crime lord by accident as he defended himself. Though Jaes survived, his mother did not. Jaes retreated to a nearby church where he found out that most slavery had already been abolished. The church hid him from any pursuers and began to slowly work him back into society as a free man.
When the UNSF members came seeking workers, Jaes found an opportunity to work with them not as a slave, but as a payed worker.
Trivia: Will often hide himself in dark corners when not on a task and either think silently about his fallen family or plot revenge on all those who are in favor of slavery. Though he never went to a school or learned to read, he always carries a children's book that his mother had hidden away and read to him. He lived on a medevil-like world where space travel was unheard of until semi recently.

Hey, no prob. It'll be neat to finally role play him.
Ok Seeing as we now have 4 characters up and approved I'm going to get this thing started. I'll be posting the IC on Sunday my time which is GMT +8 (Which is most likely Saturday night for you peoples.
All Characters will have between 1-3k of UN standard credits to start off, it will be up to you to decide how much you character is likely to have. Anyone with the Cybernetics trait will only have 500 credits.
If your character has technical or engineering skills they may have a basic toolkit at no expense.
All characters will have a bag of belongings atleast :P This will contain personal items.
Anyone who has the skill EVA suit proficiency skill will have a basic EVA suit at no cost.
That is all.
Mwhahahahaha >:3
Edit:
The RP still has 2 slots open for anyone wanting to join/is late in getting in a sheet.
Ahh, some proper sci-fi...
Name: Rekk Bsquottic Miquelliosk
Age: 32
Species/race/Birth Planet: Rosk/ Walker / (unpronounceable thing that translates as) Swamp Rock
Sex: Male (sorta)
S: 8
P: 7
E: 4
C: 3
I: 5
A: 8
L : 5
Trait: Brute
Appearance: Broad of shoulder and wide of head, chitinous "dreadlocks" of scales/armor plating trailing from the sides of his face and back of his head, three short ones hanging off his chin. Face like an alligator crossed with a snake. Two-thumbed hands the approximate size and shape of spades, with chitin armor along the fingers and forearms. Six heavily armored legs branching out in all directions from the pelvis, not entirely unlike a tarantula. Stands at about 6'8", ritual scars over the eyes and on his chest.
Clothing: A flight jacket and shorts, covered in pockets that probably contain explosives or still-squeaking snacks. Undershirt greasy enough to probably count as wearable fast food, and a pair of flight goggles that usually hang around his neck.
History: Rekk's species is prone to wandering, Rekk more so than others. Rather than settle down with a nice girl as his parents wanted (girl and parents both being loose translations from a species with three genders and a rather communal approach to parenthood) Rekk continued to wander until his wanderings took him off planet. An aimless drifter and mercinary, this would probably be the first long-term berth that Rekk would have taken on.
Trivia: In addition to what's been mentioned already, a PDA and a firearm far too gargantuan for most other species, Rekk carries an ornate tank strapped to his back full of toxins from his home planet necessary for his own respiration. A chemical process inside the tank constantly produces more of the airborne acids and poisons, which can in sufficient concentrations be fatal to 90.34% of other intelligent lifeforms.
Skills: Major- Combat expertise; a form of brutish cunning for combat long, short and close range. Fighter pilot: Can pilot small fighter ships, raiders and suchlike (would that be filed under the EVA suit style of thing, or should I change it?). Minor- Weapon proficiency, ship repair.

Equipment: "Lostriin" (a name equivalent to "Betty") his hand-held cannon. Ten grenades, plus ammo for Lostriin. Surpressor field generator on a band around his neck; he switches it on and all unshielded energy based weapons within ten feet are expensive clubs. Flight goggles contain an HUD. Bag with a change of clothes and personal items. A knife that, in the hands of something smaller, would qualify as a sword, or possibly a guillotine. And a set of brass knuckles.
Boog my man so glad you would attempt to to join us! As to your question on EVA suit proficiency is a separate skill to piloting.
No, as in whether or not the ship also has a fighter in the hanger was what I was asking.
The Thrill of the Chase is a civilian vessel. So no it does however have two lightly armed shuttles.
It'll do. =D

Name: Pandora Amelia Rosendahl
Age: 29
Species: Celian Human, or a Celio-dwelling variation of human; the majority race on Celio. There is no significant difference between a Celian Human and an ordinary human. On Celio, Celian Humans simply refer to themselves as "humans."
Birth Planet: Pandora is an inhabitant of a small, insular planet succinctly known as "The World" by its residents. Technically, the planet is referred to as Celio by most others.
Sex: Female
S: 5
P: 4
E: 6
C: 4
I: 8
A: 5
L : 7
Trait: None
Appearance: Pandora would be extremely attractive if it wasn't for her almost caricaturized, cartoony appearance. Aside from her unusual taste in color coordination, Pandora is fairly mundane as far as most intergalactic races go: she resembles an ordinary human, with no other abnormal attributes. Her skin color is a smooth and milky olive, and her eyes were possibly blue at one point, but were unsuccessfully altered in color to purple, as the residual traces of icy blue evident in the iris indicate. Pandora's hair is dyed a fluorescent, obnoxious bubblegum-pink, the same color printed in the form of a little, heart-shaped tattoo underneath Pandora's right eye. Her body is voluptuous and curvy, almost exaggerated.
Clothing: Wears nothing but a pair of overalls, fortunately enough to preserve some modesty, and a leather pilot's cap crowned with lopsided goggles. The overalls are a lurid pink, dyed with alternating shades of that same color, and with the occasional abstract flower in burgundy or red stitched onto the legs.
History: Pandora was born and raised on planet Celio by her grandfather. Shortly after her birth, her parents, both drifting aimlessly from location to location, made the decision to leave Pandora in the custody of her grandfather, and leave to see the uncharted world together in a sudden reverie. Usually, when Pandora recalls this part of the story, she somewhat regretfully adds that while her parents enthusiastically promised to return once they had seen the world, they never came back. All throughout Pandora's life, she has speculated the cause of her parents' death, but two of the most brutal solutions seem to be the most obvious to her: that her parents, unprepared for the harsh and untamed wilderness, met their end at the talons of a territorial Gryphon, or that they abandoned their momentary crusade altogether and, unable to face their expectant child or accept the responsibility of their broken promises, went to start a new life elsewhere. Pandora no longer cares about her parents, to the point she doesn't even want to wish them the best.
But I digress, on to Pandora's grandfather. Bernard "Blunderbuss" Rosendahl was the local pariah of Pandora's hometown, largely because he had a dangerous fascination with the imaginary, inconceivable world of airborne vessels – something outrageous for the residents of Celio. Air travel was strictly forbidden; all possible transportation was regulated by the government and people were only allowed to go where they were allowed. Only governmental officials possessed any flexibility, as they could come and go, beyond these condemned zones, freely, without permission or guidelines. All Atlases on Celio depicted a barren land – but only in that they illustrated what was government-authorized for civilians. Anything else was off-limits, and most everyone around the Rosendahl family resigned themselves to this.
Blunderbuss, however, was different. Throughout Pandora's life, he taught her everything he knew, all for the purpose of educating her as his protégé. He was building a flying machine, and he was going to take the world by storm with it. Blunderbuss's dream became Pandora's, as she grew to admire the man and devote all her attention toward the completion of the flying machine.
In the end, Blunderbuss was killed – by a group of assassins hired by the government who wished to stop the production of the flying machine that would end the steady profits the government was making off of taxing other modes of transportation. Pandora, who was absent at the moment of the turmoil, was spared. Pandora was aggrieved by the death of her grandfather, but decided to continue his research in his memory. Pandora resolved to complete her flying machine and overthrow the corrupt government ruling Celio.
Pandora worked on a number of prototype flying machines in secrecy, as the one Blunderbuss built had been destroyed by the assassins. Pandora worked under the pretense of being a firearms enthusiast and an antique saleswoman. People occasionally talked about her being crazy – they alienated her and scrutinized her sanity, just as they did with her grandfather. This was enough incentive for people to leave the eccentric woman alone.
Pandora lived in relative isolation until a UNSF ship inexplicably arrived on Celio, taking control of her local settlement. Celio was a first-wave colonizing attempt by private investors. Pandora voluntarily signed up as a scout, believing that the experience should grant her adequate exposure to technology and transportation considered outrageous on her planet.
Trivia:
- Pandora's natural hair color is brown.
- Pandora is bisexual, but prefers women. She is currently in an on-again, off-again relationship with someone named "Zia."
- Pandora has some degree of artistic talent, as she is capable of drawing extremely meticulous, organized sketches of prototype flying machines and winged creatures. Outside of that field, however, her knowledge of art is somewhat limited.
- Pandora loves antiquated guns and firearms, and is extremely conservative when it comes to gun possession.
- Pandora has a loathing of most governments, believing they are inherently corrupt.
- Pandora's pilot's cap was a gift from her grandfather.
- Pandora's grandfather was, to a degree, based off of the author's own grandfather.
- Pandora's middle and last names are based off of two prominent figures in real-world aviation history: Amelia Earhart and Charles Emery Rosendahl.
Skills:
Major: Inventor; Mechanic
Minor: Firearms proficiency; skilled marksman

Ladies and Gentlemen the IC is now open.
MWHAHAHAHAHAHA! >:3 let the games begin.
Please add to your Character profile your Credit balance and a space for equipment.
Edit: Keaton and Boog approved!
This means we are now full and the RP is now Closed...Sorry to anyone else wanting to join at this point. I may open it again depending on how well we do.
Hmmm.

Durn. I've been quite busy the past few days, and hadn't had a chance to continue profiling for this. And Keaton has beaten me to the mechanic position. Ah well.
In that case, if the RP does open up again, I can now go to my alternative to engineering specialist; Heavy Weapons specialist >:3
Going to get married in about 12 hours and go on my honeymoon right after, so I think I'll introduce my guy when I get back. ;)
Right oh JSR!
Sadly folks this my be my last post for a little while depending on how often I can get leave from the hospital. I'll try to at least get back here every two days three on the outside.
Depending on my admission time tomorrow I'll be able to reply to any posts.
Sorry for the interuption...
Bwahahaha!
Go Eph! Pity the sorry kid. He'll thank you for it.
Honest he will.
... ok, so once he gets over the hero worship thing, he'll prank you so hard your tail'll come out. But he'll be thanking you underneath, honest. ;-]
Been meaning to post this for a little bit, but I've had a concept for a new character. I hope we an find a way to worm him in, if not now, then sometime later.
If I can't be Mr. Fix-It (Keaton beat me to that) then at least I can still be Mr. Blow-Shit-Up >:3
Since the GM has closed the RP, I'd say not.
Possibly later, though. But certainly not in the next couple of weeks, since the GM is AFK.
OK?
Yeah, I know. I kinda misworded what I said, I meant worm in later, because he did say he might be able to reopen at a future date depending on how things go. I do know that now is not a good time.
Just so people know: http://llearch.net/misc/rp/TotC/ is up.
Corrections welcome.
Edit:
Heh. One presumes that laying in some seeds wouldn't be a bad plan, though; in low-G, you can grow seeds somewhat faster than in gravitational environments, and with the right ingredients you can grow fresh veges in a couple months... depending on what they are. And they'll be fixing carbon for you, and releasing O2, so that's a bonus...
Also, the water is going to be recycled fairly solidly, so one would expect somewhere on-board there's a pool (for use as spare water; use as a thing to swim in is secondary); same goes for O2, but you'd get that in compressed cylinders, or some such; assuming power is no problem, liquid/solid O2 (ie, compressed _that_ much) is a possibility, for ease of transport and packing; the containers would have to be extremely strong, though, and opening them would require a lot of pressure, otherwise you get problems; be aware that the air you breath has nitrogen and other chemicals in it, so you'd need some trace elements over a four month stretch; mostly they get recycled, but there's always some loss...
... I'm overthinking this, aren't I? ;-] If Mel wants ideas, I can sit down and jabber for _days_...
Thanks again llearchy!
ANd Cog thats not a shot at you just William's thoughts on the matter. Feel free to try your luck >:3

How was he to know it said "pull" on it? :3
Ok, so Arcwelder was rejected, and the drone swarm was rejected, and I can't remember if I tried anything else and was rejected. However, in our PM conversations, I got the gist of the AIs in your setting. With that said;
Will you let me play one?
The AI I have in mind would be a 'wandering' one, more like a sentient program (or virus xD) floating around cyberspace, and I can come up with various scenarios explaining how it came to be. But since it would want to 'anchor' itself somewhere, or maybe it just needs to hide from authorities that would certainly want to delete it, it could choose the Thrill of the Chase. And even if the Thrill doesn't have computer space to fully support an AI (you wouldn't let me have the drones because they were too small to be sentient even when networked, and only starships had that kind of power), don't worry, I've got a plan for that as well ;) Its abilities would basically be all that of a computer whiz; it could hack, program, generally manipulate data, etc. It just wouldn't be able to manipulate the physical world unless it remotely 'posesses' a machine. Basically, it would be applying for the position of an electronics datamaster/computer expert, if the Thrill can possibly make use of one. If you can think of any other abilities that it could have that I haven't thought of to make it more useful to a salvage vessel. Maybe it could interface with salvaged components and reprogram them to bring them back online...and if you have a problem with this possibly going past 'beginner' skills, I can keep it in a toned down way and not make it too good, though that might further limit its usefulness.
What do you say?
tech, isn't this closed at present?
So... would you be suggesting said AI doesn't show up until we lose some other players, or something? And what do we do with the current AI on the ship? Have your beginner AI remove it somehow, when it's been around for a while and is, one hopes, at least somewhat used to what goes on in the ship - and The Capn and Eph used to it? And, one presumes the rest of the crew, by that time?
Obviously it's not my call, I'm just saying...
I've actually been going back and forth with Paladin for awhile now, and the way he's been making it out is that he'd let me in--if I could come up with something that he won't reject. So far, I've been unsuccessful, which has frustrated me immensely.
Now, instead of conversing over PMs, I've just decided to go through this in the OOC instead.
And an AI already on the Thrill? I was under the impression it didn't have one yet...does it? If so, that nips my whole idea right then and there... :mowsad

Eh? I don't recall that as strictly necessary, and in the conversations and previous submissions I've been sending personally to him, I think he would have said that to me already if he meant it.
The only problem I've been having is finding something that actually fits in his strict and rigid framework.

....
Techmaster I did tell you that I was after 'people' who were new to the profession. I'm sorry if I made it unclear I was after flesh and blood human/alien beings and not robotic or AIs.
And yes the 'Thrill of the Chase' does have an AI aboard its just no one has met her/it yet.
As for this being a strict and ridgid framework I don't think it is at all there are lots of variations you cane make ina human/alien character.
Ah. Okay. Fortunately, I've got one last idea, I just wanted try this first.
TO BE UNDERGOING REVISION:
Hokay. Gots a profile done up, and I'm very confident this one should succeed where the others have failed. You have suggested I be a drone swarm operator, so I've gone with that (even though I'm still -extremely- annoyed you wouldn't let me simply subtract the human). Yes, it does have my own twist to it, but if you can cut me just a leetle slack, it can't be a problem.
Really, being an alien would be a bigger departure than this. Not to mention the fact that this comes with a self-imposed handicap.
Name: Jack Ridgrey
Age: 23
Species/race/Birth Planet: Human, some backwater colony
Sex: Male
S: 4
P: 7
E: 4
C: 5
I: 8
A: 7
L : 5
Trait: Cybernetics: Neural Implant--Experimental Remote Drone Neuro-Interface (no bonus, see below)
Appearance: Fairly average build, on the tall-ish and lanky side. Messy black hair, covering up some patches of metal and circuitry. PENDING REMOVAL: He seems to have a permanent wince, grimace, or cringe on his face, as if everything is distasteful to him...or he is suffering some kind of pain.
Clothing: Basic civvie clothes: T-shirt and shorts.
History:PENDING REVISION: Jack grew up in a colony on the butt-end of nowhere. When he was old enough and worked up enough cash, he bought passage to a well-established core world. There he drifted around, barely making any money anywhere and almost falling into homeless poverty. Eventually, he noticed an ad from a facility for a large corporation nearby, looking for willing test subjects for some cybernetics experiments. Intrigued (mostly because it offered a fairly healthy sum), he applied for it. After signing a contract (without actually reading it), they put him into a project investigating advanced control systems for common drone swarms to improve efficiency. They planned to create a direct mind-integration of a drone swarm, essentially making them extensions of a person. Jack's set of six functional multi-purpose drones were keyed to the implants, and the surgery commenced.
The operation was a little more horrific than Jack had expected. However, it did go off without a hitch. And at first, it seemed to be a success; he could 'feel' and control the drones almost as if they were a part of him. However, something wasn't right. Almost immediately, he was wracked with a rather nasty headache. He was given medication, but it did nothing. Several days went by, with Jack hardly getting any sleep, for the pain refused to subside. Eventually, due to corporate bureaucracy, a corrupt executive, several extenuating circumstances, and mostly the 'guinea pig' contract, he realized that he was not going to be paid (at least, not in a timely manner), and they were going to keep him for further experiments.
Alarmed, in pain, and panicking, Jack fled the facility. He dodged around the planet for awhile, trying to lose their trail. Using the last money he had, he eventually managed to bribe his way onto a cargo ship, and eventually dropped off on another planet. He tried to rid himself of the drones during this time, but when he shut one off, he literally felt a hole appear in his mind and memory. He reactivated it and did not shut down any more.
Now penniless, he's been trying to simply survive from day to day. While he's able to somewhat provide for his own food, a bit better than a hobo thanks to his drones, he had no choice but to turn to burglary once for bottles of sleeping pills, as he now has severe insomnia thanks to the endless migraine (though he isn't even entirely free of it in sleep), and the pills are the only thing that give him rest. He knows the corporation will pick up his trail eventually unless he moves again, and then he'll be in real trouble. When he heard that there was a salvage vessel looking for crew on the planet, Jack starts trying to contact the captain to see if he can get some sort of position, as both a way to earn money and to slip away from the corporation.
And this time, he'll read the goddamn fine print on his contract.
Drone and Interface: PENDING REVISION: The drones themselves are fairly ordinary; just multi-purpose drones equipped with several varied machining/electronics tools, two spindly manipulator arms, and one small defensive pulse laser each.
The thing about the interface is that it actually works perfectly; Jexx receives all sensor input from the drones as if they were his own eyes and ears, and he controls them as if they were part of his own body. His mind, thanks to the circuitry in each drone, has actually been slightly expanded and accelerated to accommodate these changes. The problem is that the human mind was just not meant to control more bodies than its own. The strain from doing so is what is causing Jack's 24/7 headache. He can't shut them down, because in his mind 'expanding', some portions are now using the circuitry in the drones for 'operating space'. Shutting them down (or them being destroyed) decreases his mental capacity. Normally, the drones are all just floating along behind him when he tries not to actively control them, because it requires the least concentration. Not that focus and concentration are a problem; when he does direct them, he can make them work together, actively performing real-time maneuvers, teamwork, and intelligent tactics unmatched by any standard drone control systems or programs. However, while the concentration itself is no difficulty at all, it does come with a price; the more he concentrates, the worse his headache gets. If he uses one of the aforementioned high-concentration advanced tactics, such as in a scenario of fighting a capable enemy, he is hit with an utterly incapacitating spike in head pain.
If one of the drones is actually destroyed, it can be rebuilt by the others, as Jack was provided with their schematics in his head. Even if there is only one left, and Jack will be quite mentally regressed by then, others can still be rebuilt But if all of them are scrapped...Jack is done for.
Skills: TO BE IMPROVED: Unless you count his ability to control the drones and what they can do, none.
Note: PENDING DELETION: He will be trying to apply for the position of 'security detail' on the Thrill. He can set them to individually patrol around the ship.
Not to be too blunt Tech but you see that closed tag on the IC topic? There for a reason I stated in the beginning of this OOC.
I can however make suggestions to you via PM to make 'Jack' acceptable come the time when I do open the RP to new characters.
And if you are annoyed by the rather simple (IMHO) why are you trying to join?

*sigh* Yes, but with all the conversations we've been having, you've been making it sound like you'd let me in now if I could find something you wouldn't reject, as I said earlier. However, waiting is fine. As long as I've finally got an acceptable character, I can do that. I just wish you would have clarified this earlier.

Yes, please do, that would be nice. And I'm, of course, assuming that means Jack is 'accepted'.

Aside from the fact that I was referring
specifically to one of my earlier submissions, yes, this whole process has been rather frustrating all around. So why am I so dead-set on getting in? Simple.
Including this, there are now only three running sci-fi RPs, and only two of them are spacefaring. I am already in the first space one (though with characters I'm less-than-pleased with), and I don't want to miss out on this one.
EDIT: Profile now has all to-be-revised sections blanked out, and may be undergoing some major overhauls.
Just thought I'd make a post regarding some of the acronyms I've been using.
UNSC: United Nations Space Command. The civilian/military governing body of human controlled space. Is responsible for civilian colonies and space stations.
UNSF: United Nations Space Fleet. The military arm of the UNSC. Has four branches: Navy, Marines, Army and Colonial Marshals (ie civilian police force)
2ic: 2nd in Command
Do you wish to know more?
I wish people to know that the webpage (http://llearch.net/misc/rp/TotC/) is updated. Specifically, there's now a supply list (http://llearch.net/misc/rp/TotC/?page=E_and_S) linked at the bottom.
Said list is probably going to grow a glossary, and possibly some additional prices if Pal supplies them. And additional hardware, I expect.
Hrm. I've updated my post, because it occurred to me that Johnny would treat Nova like a person; expect to say "thank you" for the assistance, that sort of thing.
Nova not sticking around for it is Nova's problem, but Johnny is polite.
... Unlike Witt. *cough*
Who said shes gone llearch? >:3
Considering she has the ships sensors at her disposal....
Oh, sure. _I_ know that, but it's a matter of, if she's not _visibly_ there, unless there's a need, consider her not present.
It's polite, you know. Not talking to people when they're not there, and all. Plus it plays into people's reactions to people, which is what the AI should be working with, not AI-AI comms, which run under a totally different protocol.
Someone walking away while you're talking to them is considered rude in many circles... ;-] I'm presuming that Johnny will get a chance to say hi to Nova later.
Cog:
You haven't said how tall your raccoon conman is. I've presumed somewhat shorter than Johnny's 170cm, which makes him a lot shorter than Pandora's 190cm, but I'm not sure where that puts him with Ephrael's 150cm and Celine's 137cm...
Not important now, but I've listed him as "short" and left it vague; it'd be nice to know later, since it'll help with some of the sideline comparison comments we can throw around to fill in space. ;-]
Hmm, looks like a sweet RP!
Would be intrested in joining if/when the RP opens again :)
Hey there, malakin! It's been awhile since you've showed up around here :3
Yeah, I'm a bit of a lurker ;)
Been waiting for a cool Sci-fi RP to join, they are all Full it seems, or at least all the ones I have had time to read through are :F
*pokey-pokey*
Is there life here?
I'd like to think so but after 3 weeks....
Damn, anything i show intrest in tends to die ;P
In case anyone is wondering what the contact entails it was posted earlier when Ephrael explained it to Jaes.
Just a short poll up guys as I am thinking about opening the RP to new members. Sadly these thoughts have come about due the fact that this RP crawls along and some fresh blood might help.
I'm not sure that specifically two or three slots would be what we need.
What we need is some activity on the part of the players who want to play. That might not involve anyone new at all...
as i said earlier, if you need someone new, i'll gladly join, as it seems that my own RP has kinda died... i'll probably try again later if i've got time then... but as is, if you need someone new, i've got a plethora of characters that could be fairly easily adapted to the game, as for active, my schedule works out pretty nice since i can use a laptop in pretty much every class when i get bored (it happens a lot too... bio chem, econ, anatomy, and history are not the greatest of subjects to take at the same time especially when you can't understand half the words coming from the anatomy and econ profs. mouths)

Well thanks for volunteering Azzy >:3 *stabs the Azlan*
I've been reading the thread and I must confess, I think part of the reason why it is slowing down is that it seems like the RP has been hanging out in dock for a long time. Maybe try and push things along into something meatier?
As I said before I am quite intrested in joining if you think you need another player or two...
I was thinking somthing along the lines of a SCV pilot, a skilled salvage expert. The SCV he would have is not quite like the SC one, but more like the deep sea suit shown here: http://forgetomori.com/media/dogujedi3copy.jpg
But with a large abckpack containing the thrusters and another four arms used to grab and manipulate objects so the main equipment on the heavy arms can operate freely. (oh and they would have a grapple hook function to reel in things or vice versa).
But I agree with ShadesFox, I think it might be the fact not much has happend yet :P
I would rather not join in with an RP if they dont actualy need more players, else I will just be getting in the way...
I would still want in on this RP, but considering the fact that five charcaters/ideas in a row were shot down...my will and creativity are quite drained and disheartened :sigh
I'll ring Paladin if I happen to get another idea that I feel like expending effort on...
tech, just give me a personality you want to play as, and i've got a couple of character's you can adapt from some of my short stories that would probably not be shot down... i'll be heading home on friday to get my detachable hard drive with all of them on there, but there's a couple that i've got on hand if you want to try sooner than that
Nu-uh. Doesn't work like that. "Personality" actually always comes last when I create a character. I start with the concept, then flesh out, balance out. History created to explain how the character got to where he/it is. Finally, personality emerges from there. And the initial concept most preferably has to have something to do with robots/machines/cyborgs/constructs/things like that. In fact, I would have taken the pure engineer position already after my first couple of ideas crashed and burned, but Keaton beat me to that.
Tech is it just me or are you bitching in my thread?
the bluntness of that statement has me laughing and beer just came out my nose... thanks pally, thanks a lot...
I do aim to please :P
I do appreciate bluntness, but I do believe it's just you. All I said was why I don't already have a character in this RP, and then I explained to Basilisk why him giving me a character wouldn't work. I don't see how any of that qualifies as "bitching".
Now, if I were to go on a trolling rant about how you're an unfair bastard of a GM, and that I'm the victim and everyone hates me wha wha wha I need sympathy cry cry, yes, I think that would be bitching :3 But, aside from this example, I have said nothing of the sort.
Now, in retrospect, my last post possibly could have been worded better, but if there is anything percieved as negative, it was not intentional. So, I apologize if anything seemed like that.
soo... pally, any chance this is going to open up, or should i keep the character i sent you handy for when you do open it later?
Pal's computer is acting up so his promised update will be delayed.
thanks for the heads up... and if you can get in touch with him, let him know i wish him the best of luck
Unfortunate. I've done up a character sheet anyways, so if something opens I'll be willing to jump in.
Post later today.
wait... what does that even mean?
It means he will post later today?
that's what i'm assuming, but it could mean a hell of a lot of other things... so i'm confused as to what it's actually supposed to mean...
Righto in about 5 minutes after I've posted this I will be opening the RP to two new players. This is not due to the RP slowing down as I stated in an earlier post, more to do with I thought I can handle two more people.
I Know this may sound dull to some but no flashy entrances for the new people, it will be assumed that they came in with the rest of the crew for the ease of the GMs brain.
That is all.....
*Waits for the Hellmouth to open*
hooray for dog waking me up to this

A:9
L:4
Trait: Thin Frame
Appearance: standing at 193cm yet weighing a mere 68kg he appears to be a wolf, very thin but healthy... Head to toe white fur, with gray patches across his chest, around his neck, and down the center of his spine... he has rather unusual black patches of fur around the outside corners of his eyes, making a sort of black half halo around his icy blue eyes... the tips of the hairs on his head are also black. he also has a sort of stretched kite shaped black patch across the outsides of his forearms as well.
Clothing: A formal looking, military style, steel gray tunic with dark and forest green trim. He also owns several sets of more casual clothing, but seems to prefer the tunic when trying to make a good first impression.
Across the right leg of suit, he has a holster with a light weight semi-automatic 10mm pistol, just behind the holster is a 20cm K-Bar Style combat knife, sheathed but the hilt is visible from behind. He is also wearing a harness across his left leg with a small pouch carrying assorted equipment, such as a multi tool, spare magazines for the pistol, a small flashlight, a basic PDA and a wallet with some other forms of ID, along with a few loose credits...
History: Raised on a rather harsh planet Lucien was brought up to be extremely observant, and was forced to be agile, or be dead... at age 15 he lied about his age, and signed on with a bounty hunter group that was in the area. They taught him several things about spacing, and trained him to use firearms... but after he screwed up on a big hunt, the bounty hunters left him on a heavily populated world, near broke but with his belongings... He's taken on jobs as part of the crews on merchant ships, and has been doing alright for himself... After surviving several close calls while in space aboard his last ship, he went and left his job feeling under appreciated, and underpaid for the work he was doing... Overall good natured and well intentioned, he's a pretty likable guy... he decided to combine his experiences in both merchant, and bounty hunting, and is currently trying out for the job of point man for a survey team along with possible security duties if need be...
Trivia: He earned his nick name before he left his home world because he had learned to count cards in the ancient game of blackjack by the age 12
He carries the knife because he thinks it looks bad ass, and yet never seems to find any actual use for it
He enjoys an extremely eclectic taste in music, ranging from early 21st rap, to modern heavy rock, to classical music... he enjoys the beat and melody of music, more so than the actual lyrics

At 190cm Kevin is rather tall, but not nearly as strong as you would think. He has thick grey fur and a really big tail. Really freakishly big tail.
Clothing:
Not much. Owns a few pants and shirts, some boots and one belt. All with vendor logos.
History:
Somehow, Kevin isn't dead yet. This is inspite of many attempts by fate to the contrary. Between getting hit by a truck (which he now joks about being truck proof) any any number of times getting his tail stick in doors and elevators amongst other things (it is a wonder how he even keeps it (He says 'with shampoo, the way any other anthro should keep their tail")).
Most of his life was spent... somehow. He just sort of did one thing after another and somehow he is where he is now. Never makes any truely long term plans, though with a long term goal and smarts enough to figure out what to do next just in time you would think he did have a plan.
He came into a pile of cash and used it to live his dream, going to college to become a starship designer. Fortunately, he was budget conscious enough to plan out for four years of college with his money. Unfortunately, he was not reality savy enough to realize tha college actually takes 5 years these days. Thus, his money ran out and now he is shooting for a spot salvaging ships. He figured it would be a good way to get money and experience actually in a starship and taking them apart.

All of Kevin's cloths came from attending events sponsored by ship part vendors.

Not that I'm trying to rain on your parade, Basilisk, but wouldn't it be better to wait until you got approval from the GM to start posting?
Unless Paladin PM'd you approval, of course. In which case, I'd like to know, so I can update the website...
he approved a while ago if the game actually opened up... like last Tuesday i believe it was
via PM? Or in this thread? I've looked, and I can't see any actual approval.
That may be just that I'm glancing over it, of course...
by PM, i had to edit a few things in the original character idea, but yea, once we got things setup, he said it looked good, but he wasn't sure if the game was going to open or not
that bit about the new characters not having an interesting intro was probably directed at me, as i had a few ideas how to get me in without actually going through a secondary recruiting process
I was curious about that too. Oh well, just I have to wait the good old fashioned way X3
Bas Bas Bas.... Yes I did say it looked good in the PM, but I did not say you were in right there and then did I? I'm going to ask llearch to pull that post of yours for the moment.
Shadefox? You're in please sign the contract, add some initial funds to your character as well as the 2k starter. You'll also get a basic tool kit due to your skills.
Acknowledged mission. First post up along with funds and stuff added to character.
oh... sorry, my bad, i thought when you said it looked good, you meant it was ready... sorry for jumping the gun a bit
that being the case, what do you need me to change around in the character?
Nice post, Shades. I like the "not reading anything" touch. *grin*
One COULD just say that they didn't read it, or one could have a bit of fun going about it. I practically live for inserting phrases like that.
Sorry for the delay people, I'm currently in the middle of a move from my unit back to my parents and its taking more time and effort than I thought.
Its also making me cranky so if I lash out at someone I'm sorry.
Basilisk I'll get back to you.
don't worry about it, besides tuesday, i've been busy with classes, exams and papers... hope every thing is working out for you though i know how much moving sucks, as i've had to do it like 6 times in the last couple of years... It's just short of impossible to keep a job here over summer...
it basically ruins at least a week... and you always take the expensive stuff in the first load, because you don't want compy, TV, laptop, and that kind of stuff stolen while your away...
Alrighty Bas you're in, but under your first warning ok? I only give out two before I kick someone, is that acceptable?
You also might want to add some weight cause a 193cm person weighing only 60kg isn't healthy even with the thin frame perk.
Also I'd bump a point or two into luck....No one should consider it a dumpstat.
So if you will want in sign the contract.
alright, i'll go play around with a few things, maybe drop a point in one thing for that extra luck... and good call with the 60kg, i think i meant it to be 68 and clicked the 0 by mistake... (my old laptop had a tiny keyboard)
Sorry for the double post... but i'm still looking for what the signing bonus is... and haven't found a definitive number... also, what are the supplies that we need to get for ourselves, i'd assume most of that is covered in the contract... but since it hasn't really been specified anywhere i can see, it'd be good to know...
The signing bonus is 2K credits.
As for equipment a weapon and/or armor(EVA suit) is recommended, plus any upgrades to PDA or toolkits and weapon mods like sights and the like.
Shades do you mind editing your last post? Each of the three stores will have different stock available. I'll post them depending on who goes to what store.
Aww, man. You mean I'll have to whip up three more stores worth of content? :-/
(I'm kidding...)
KK, edited.
soo, couple of questions about the available equipment... do you have a prefered color that people should wear for an EVA suit, or can we just go along and assume it's somewhat personalized if they already have one?
if we start with an EVA suit, what type is it (i'm assuming something like light level 1)
lastly, since Lucien does have some fair firearms training, he would probably know which would be the more accurate firearm, the AK or the Jagear? (he'd take the better weapon, and just because it's a higher price doesn't always make it a better weapon)
There are a few standard colourings for suits, those being: Orange, White, Olive Drab, Black, Brown, Red, and Blue. At higher levels starting at lvl 7 suits have adaptive camouflage and/or a selected colour.
EVA suits for those that start with the skill 'EVA proficiency' May have a lvl 1 Light, Medium or a Heavy suit.
As for the AK-201 vs the Jegaer ( >:3) The AK has the heavier round and higher accuracy as the current AKM, but not as high as the Jegaer which is slightly better at penetrating armor due to its higher velocity rounds.
Do note that they are not as fantastic at knocking down shields as fast as a laser. Where as a Railgun will rip through a lvl 1 suits shields in one 8 round burst. And well A lvl 1 suit wont even slow a plasma weapon down at all.
Do you wish to know more?
besides the obvious of, on a scale of 1 to WERE ALL GONNA DIE, how evil is the pally feeling? nothing seems to come to mind... though thanks for the info
Sorry to do this guys but I'm going into hospital tomorrow. I'm not sure how often I'll have access to a computer so as of tomorrow morning (Perth GMT+8) sometime I'll be putting the RP on a mini hiatus. I'll try at least once a week or every second week to post.
You are free to post while I'm not here just don't expect the storyline to move.
Again Sorry all for the interruption.
shades, are you aware that your character has a question waiting on an answer?... and probably a chance for Kevin to avoid dislocating his shoulder when he first lets off a few rounds >:3
I was waiting for Pal to post, and Kevin is ignoring you yes ;p
Edit:
I suppose, I should elaborate. Kevin doesn't care. He got what he wants and is going to try it out. We'll see what happens. If he can't use it, meh. This guy is NOT Aaron he doesn't have ANY sense of planning ahead.
oh i know, Lucien, who, if you notice in his character bio, is rather skilled with firearms... noticing a rather slim person trying to heft a weapon that, if not held properly, endangers everyone would trigger a reaction though... especially when a drum-fed shotgun is involved...
as you can imagine, pump action is bad enough that it can knock you on your ass, but with a fully automatic, it can knock you on your ass, and spin you around, spraying buckshot at anyone who happens to be unlucky enough to be in the path...
though given that a weapon like that will probably have some type of recoil control, maybe not that bad, but still, a good deal of kinetic energy will be exerted on the user... and it will be hilarious when it happens >:3
I believe we're all waiting to see that. ;-]
Heh believe it or not hes picked the shotgun with the least recoil of them all :P
http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/sh29-e.htm
This is what the AA-90 is based off.
If you nose around on Youtube you can find evidence of it being fired one handed....that's right a full auto shotty fired by one hand....
See, there is a reason why Kevin has a luck of 9 ;p
so, just out of curiosity, on a scale of 1 (pixie fairies and gumdrops) to 10 (eating babies and flaming eyebrows) how evil is pally planning on making our first encounter?
For me to know >:3 and you my poor playthings, to find out.
if that was meant to comfort one of your players... you have failed oh so miserably...
anyways... back to the game at hand, as soon as i finish up a little chat with keaton's character, i'll be set to go for whatever you have planned once were off the station
yet another small question that just came to mind while going through the posts... do you want us to keep track of everything that changes on our character sheets in this forum? or is it being done by lleach on his server?
If you could kindly edit your sheets I would be grateful.
*Cackles evilly*
well... that certainly is one way to shove us forward in the story...
What a suspicious mind you have there Bas O:) That could be a totally innocent UNSF or merchant fleet out there....
Launching fighters? because obviously their guns are loaded with rainbows and gumdrops... with chocolate coated bunnies filling the bomb bays :U
sorry, couldn't help myself...
I think Kevin might need some help.
I also suspect that Johnny is going to be needing to get out there on that shuttle earlier than we think. Or, at the very least, this particular trip isn't going to be anywhere near as quiet and peaceful as he was expecting...
I'm further guessing that this is a little nudge to us to hurry it up. ;-]
Oh, and Paladin? How big is that fleet?
Aww... Kevin is stupid :<
And it looks like Nova is going to help him out ;p
llearch do you really want to know? >:3
i'd like to know what we're gonna be bravely running away from :U
All in good time Bas all in good time :mwaha
Quote from: Paladin Sheppard on April 16, 2009, 08:45:02 PM
llearch do you really want to know? >:3
Er. Let me rephrase: the post is inconclusive as to if it's a medium-sized fleet of, oh, ten or so carriers, or just a dinky fleet of three or four. Or a large fleet of "more than I can count in a few seconds".
It's also unclear as to how many fighters per carrier - hundreds? half a dozen? are we talking a swarm big enough to cause problems to anything smaller than an intergalactic task force, or something that we can run away from, if we're fast and sneaky enough?
Something that can envelop the entire planet and shoot anything that moves is something we should avoid from the get-go. Something that might manage to get in our vicinity, but we can still probably break free from, albeit with some star trek style shaking of the command deck and some damage to Willie's paint job, we might want to at least learn what they're there for.
You can see my thought processes, here. ;-]
Well seeing as no one in the system as spotted these new comers the Fleets size and composition is unknown to everyone :3
so, basically, your just giving us the heads up that in several gametime hours the light and sensor reading are going to appear of a fleet that is already heading in system with a good deal of velocity advantage, as they've been accelerating for several hours before we actually get to see them?
Maybe >:3
2 questions about your post, has the station in any way, shape or form, been informed as to what's in system heading towards it? secondly, why does it seem Lucien isn't going to get his meal before leaving the station?
As of yet no, the station has not been informed. And ya never know, he buy that meal....
I'd hoped to have cleared things up by the time I left, but that time has come upon us with little warning.
At least, little warning for you guys. I'm on holiday, going back to the old country for my sister is getting hitched. I'll be back at the end of May.
In the mean time, try not to get Johnny killed, and don't get too far ahead in the plot, please. ;-]
... Pal, if need be, I believe we've discussed the various things I'd like him to pick up. As long as he gets a selection of paints, and the other items listed, and discusses getting a gun cleaning kit of his very own, you're welcome to walk him down the corridor to the ship and embark him upon untold journeys through the dark depths of space.
Or something. I know you have plans.
Evil, evil plans.
Just a quick heads up, I'll be moving tomorrow so I'm not sure when internet access will be back. Soon, if I have any say in the matter.
Righto Shades good luck with the move!
Hello fellow RPers,
Just giving everyone the heads up that i'm helping a friend move to cali, and i'm leaving tomorrow. I'll be gone for a week, but i'm bringing my laptop. Internet connections may be a bit spotty, but i'll update when i get the chance. I should be able to reply at least every other day so although delayed, i probably won't completely disappear. Sorry for the inconvenience to you all.
"uncanny accuracy", hur hur hur hur... sorry.
It's a centre of mass, thing, though. Technically, the grip would be just under the breasts. However, since she's over a foot shorter than he is...
Nice post, though, Mel.
Just to give my players the reason why the Marines are a little worried abut the Battle Armor I though I should give a description and history.
UNSF Battle Armor was first developed in the mid 21st century to combat Main Battle Tanks (MBT) of the Chinese PLA, using rudimentary exoskeletons to mount anti tank weaponry with the mobility of infantry, it meant that in urban combat that the PLA tanks could be destroyed easily and the personnel could quickly retreat before any relation.
As technology increased and better armor and shields became available the Battle Armor evolved, from a simple heavy weapons platform to being able to go toe to toe with MBTs in open fields, although these battles usually involved five BA's to one MBT due to the MBT also undergoing development.
As humanity left its own solar system contact with aliens was only a matter of time, and first contact was not always peaceful. And so the Battle Armor evolved again this time to be able to fight in space as well as the ground, and even to be orbitaly dropped.
Due to its effectiveness many alien cultures who have made contact with the UNSC have made their own copies, but the closest copy is still only as effective as a UNSF model of 50 years earlier.
UNSF Battle Armor Model 492
Height: 3.5m
Width: 1.5m
Weight: 2.5mt
Lifting capacity: 10mt
Armor Thickness 40mm chest, 30mm arms and legs, 20mm rear.
Shields: Heaviest found on a non MBT or Fighter. Able to take fire from a traditional firearm machine gun (7.62mm) for more than a minute.
The standard BA M492 weapons load consists of a shoulder mounted Plasma Cannon or Anti-Tank missile system, a arm mounted Plasma rifle or Tri-barreled Railgun, and a gauntlet mounted power blade for cutting through armor/bulkheads. However due to the modular mounts many other variants exist.
One word. "Eek."
FYI, I'm waiting on Mel posting - Johnny asked Celine a question. So chances are nothing will happen until after AC...
Actually that is a wise thought llearchy...I'm gonna place the RP on a semi-hiatus until after AC...See you all then.
Mind you feel free to post but don't expect some to reply.
BTW: I'm not sure if Theo is to port or starboard of Johnny. I put starboard, because, well, I guessed. If it's wrong, please enlighten, and I'll correct it...
Hey guys at this time I am experiencing extreme mental difficulty, I will be suspending TotC until such time as I am able to continue. Feel free to continue to post anything that you do not need a GM for.
Hello loyal minions....erm I mean expendable assets...crap that's not right either... Friends! that's it! :P
On Monday I'll be reactivating TotC as I feel I'm up to GM again :3 Come hell or high water I'll be posting so if you are still interested try and pop one in before then!
See you all then!
No, no, I do believe we're expendable assets.
Or possibly asses...
Can't I be a cute and lovable asset?
Yes.
You're still expendable. ;-]
Allrighty people! seeing as the rules state that RPs must open up from time to time, I shall be making two new spots as of sunday. Feel free to send in those Character Sheets!

Oof. Oh man. Do I dare make a
sixth attempt? :mowdizzy
I sense a small disturbance in the force...as if there was someone bitching in my thread....
As I stated earlier I am now opening up two slots in the RP. I'll leave it open for two weeks.

Trait: Small Frame
Appearance: A black cat with golden eyes, lean and wiry at 165cm tall, Jinx has a friendly face and easy smile but always manages to appear a bit scruffy, his crop of blue hair being largely immune to grooming.
Clothing: Jinx favours relatively nondescript clothing that lets him blend in with the locals. He often adds extra pockets to conceal the tools of his trade.
History:
Jinx doesn't remember his parents or even his birth name. Abandoned as a small child on a waystation in the middle of nowhere, he learned to scrounge and steal whatever he needed to survive, with only quick wits and even quicker paws to rely on. The station managers mostly ignored him unless he got into trouble, and even then they'd just lock him up for a few days and cut him loose with a hot meal in his belly--they were running a space station, not an orphanage.
A group of smugglers took him under their wing. Pretty good times... up until the accident, that is. How was he supposed to know the contraband hidden in those food crates was so explosive? Terrified that his very upset bosses would take the losses out on his hide (and possibly internal organs), he ran away, stowed aboard another freighter bound for the outer colonies.
From there, he drifted from place to place. By then, he'd become quite skilled at passing beneath notice. He'd learn what he could, doing small jobs or pulling off minor heists to get by. A prodigious talent for being in the wrong place at the wrong time kept him on his toes.
Most recently, he broke into the hotel room of some wealthy corp exec. It was a modest haul. An unusually well guarded data crystal got his hopes up, but his best slicing programs couldn't make sense of it. His fence wouldn't even offer him a single credit. However, he sensed something amiss when the rest of his black market contacts stopped returning his calls the next day. His suspicions were confirmed when some very large men tracked him down to discuss the stolen data. With bullets. Barely escaping with his skin intact, he hopped a transport to... anywhere but there, which turned out to be a station in the Delphi system.
Of course, shortly after his arrival, said refuge was invaded by man-eating slavers.
Just his luck... :animesweat
Trivia:
He wears the stolen data crystal in a pouch around his neck.
He has criminal records in eight systems, mostly for misdemeanour property crimes that rarely resulted in serious punishment. Some are attached to IDs long since abandoned.

Light EVA suit with as many shielding and exoskeleton upgrades as he can afford
I do believe the answer to this is "none". ;-]
The GM might let you get away with something else, though...
EDIT:
Actually, now that I think about it, exoskeleton upgrades would be a pretty silly thing for him to start with, even if he could afford them. He never does any heavy lifting, so he wouldn't have had a practical reason to buy it. Besides, it'd be a lot more fun to save it for later character development. Being the 98-pound weakling in a relatively testosterone-rich environment might drive him to blow all his earnings on pointlessly macho gear upgrades... :animesweat
On the other hand, he does get shot at in his line of work. Lately, he gets shot at a lot. For now, I've stuck him in a level 2 suit, which I know is affordable with just starting cash. Not so sure about the next level up. The only PC with level 3 shielding so far paid for it in Hello Kitty stickers.
:kittylove
Hello Kitty FTW...
I've known Hello Kitty to stop many things dead, so that might be fitting in some way.
On an unrelated note, I think I use larger caliber weaponry then you do here Pal. It could be a tech difference thing. What's the most common weapon caliber in use?
Yeash! I don't read the thread for a couple of days and it explodes on me :P
TezKat: Good Sheet but I have a small niggle with the catchall thievery skill...Many cause it can contain any number of subskills. PM me or contact me though one of my IMs if ya want to discuss this some more.
Azzy: :P Hello Kitty is the doom of all things and nothing can stop it :3 as for ammo commonality its a bit hard as it ranges from 4.6mm all the way up to 20mm....so I guess the average could be somewhere around the 10mm mark.
In the grim future of hello kitty there is only war...
Though I can't help but wonder about the luck stat of 2 on Tez's sheet. If I remember classic Fallout right, the way you played a jinxed character was with the trait jinxed, and a really high luck score to make sure everything explodes...
And between Azlan posting an armor guide in his RP and asking about weapons in this RP, I can't help but imagine some of us in LitS hopping dimensions... which would be hillarious... Aaron versus Kevin in mortal combat with mighty broad swords.
Ooooh, that sounds like a fun trait! >:]
Anyways. I made the requested stat adjustments and changed the name of Jinx's Thievery skill to something that better encompasses what we discussed. Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun. :animesweat
Right seeing as the Boog has posted I shall doo the same......In the morning >:3
Tez ya in, I'll place you somewhere in my next post and you can intro from there!
Tezkat: You may want to review your post, Yes Jinx has a high agility and has EVA suit proficiency....But flipping while wearing a 60kg suit while not in Zero-G is a bit much. Yes the suit holds itself up and does not slow the wearer down due to it being powered but just the act of jumping with that much mass and performing acrobatics is a bit much.
The suit weighs more than he does? :dface
Sorry. That's sorta what I was asking over IM. Given the specs of having little armour with maximum mobility and your indication that people regularly wander around with it on even in the station, I got the impression that it was something like the new BSG flight suits. Ya know... lightly reinforced jumpsuit with pressure seals and optional armour for the marines.
So... it's really more like full power armour? Wasn't expecting that... :animesweat
I'll fix it up when I get the chance.
EDIT: Post fixed.
Pal:
... You want Johnny to have to carry everyone, don't you? :-/
Yes Yes I do :3
Umm.. ok.. so after a really long delay and an immense amount of patience for Pal (:tighthug btw) I've come up with something.
Yeah... and you might want to double check my math for the stats.. XD

Appearance: At 160cm and 64kg she is 'curvy' in the sense that she is somewhat muscular and not exactly thin, but not exactly 'pudgy' either. Though she would consider herself to be so. She has bright red hair that reaches the bottom of her chin in the front, but slopes upwards to the bottom of her skull at the back of her head. Her skin is really pale but she has freckles on her face and arms.
Clothing: Her usual clothes consist of comfortable (somewhat baggy) cargo pants, t-shirt, boots, and a hooded sweatshirt. She does carry a change of scrubs in her bag along with various other medical trinkets she's picked up along her schooling; mainly first aide supplies (bio-foam and quickseal bandages and scanners), stethoscope, sphygmomometer, and a gait belt. Also carries a PDA with plug-ins.
History: Tax was always pretty shy, but challenges herself by doing things she thinks she is too scared to do. Slowly she's made it from always having her head lowered to looking people in the eye and not flinching if they begin to yell. She came from a poor family and grew up without a dad.. and somehow became quite the tomboy. Promising herself a life that was better she worked through nursing school and earned her degree. She mainly worked with trauma patients in her 1 year of degreed work history and made a few friends, strangely enough, along the way. One of those friends disappeared, Carla, and no one heard where she went until one day Tax received some intel that she was on Delphi Sation. So on a whim, Tax asked for a short vacation and headed out to the space station. For three days she searched for her friend but could not find any sign of her – and her funds were running out.

sorry for the double post... but is there still interest here? especially from the GM?

I'm sorry I haven't been swift in replies.. but don't wait on me as IRL has lifted up its ugly head.
Alrighty folks, in the interest of keeping this RP afloat I will be posting a new GM post in the next 12-18 hours. If you HAVEN'T responded to the last GM post or want to add more please do so before then.
I'm still in. I'm finally going to see if I can post more around the CMF now that my life is back on track. <3
I'm still good for the game. My IC character is just sort of stuck X3
Hey, Shades... i'm attempting to fix that :3
So Basi, Lucien is totally unconcerned about the short, violent, no warning fight that just occurred? :P
i'm pretty sure nova told them it was all clear... he'll deal with that, after he's gotten his gear X3
FYI: I plan on making a GM post at or slightly after 10:00am GMT+8 tomorrow (for me at least :3) If anyone has any last minute posts feel free to add them.
Due to an apparent lack of interest I'm going to close TotC down
Thank you all very much for playing, it has been a fantastic run for my first RP as a GM :3
