Title: missmab.com site outage
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 16, 2008, 07:51:13 AM
Xepher says his ISP is down; they've been doing some major network rearrangements of late, which they said they'd fixed two days ago...

Since their own site is also down, he can't log into the trouble ticket system to tell them. However, since all their DNS, all their sites, and major internet connectivity is down, he suspects they might be aware of it already.

Take deep breaths, hold on to your hat, and remain calm. Service will resume shortly.

(I'd post a copy of the latest strip, only I missed it by under 5 minutes.)

Amber Edit Note:  Dont say I never gave you anything (http://www.mabsland.com/tmp/Vol922.jpg)...then again it may be better that you do.

Thanks llearch.    :mouser

If anyone else was able to get that strip hopefully they'll post it.

*Hits head against keyboard* ~THIS~ is why I miss the earlier updates. Back then I would have seen the comic before even leaving for work. Now I go the entire night looking forward to the next installment, only to find the entire site down, and had to Google Darkmoon's comic in order to get here. Thank L-Sama that he uses a different server than Mab does. If I wasn't a tetoler, and if this wasn't a work night, I would so be getting smashed right about now...

...

...

*Goes off to eat some sherbet and ramen*

Okay, so it's nothing too serious.

...

Seriously, it isn't. The whole thing could have gone BOOM and Amber could have lost everything. As it is, it's just down for a while. We'll live.

You know, Jairusibble, your .sig is going to run out of space, soon.

Amber has a backup copy on her machine, as well. And Darkmoon has a backup copy, as well, albeit possibly not the latest bits.

He has a banhammer. You don't.

Your move.  :mwaha

We all have banhammers.  It's just that some of us can use them anytime, and everyone else's is confined to The Arena.

Eh, I trust boxy to not throw that banhammer around unnecessarily.  He doesn't strike me as the 'mad with power' mod type who bans people for either 1) not liking him or 2) for not playing his way.  So stop trying to scare the poor kangaroo-rat and other mice like creatures with those posts. :D  Anyway, does anyone who isn't blocked currently (or who managed to get in before the site went down) think they could temporarily post the comic up?  I'd really like to know as I'm stuck waiting on someone else right now at work and I'm really bored.

It's okay if Lurch wants to tease me. I'm not changing my sig to match his taunts anymore.

Curses! Go figure the site went down AFTER I posted the comic. I missed out on prime lazy time! D:

Anyways, I put a link up at the top for the comic, also at http://www.mabsland.com/tmp/Vol922.jpg

And people scoffed when they found out I hosted my other site elsewhere. Well Ha to them!

Sweet!  Thank you very much Amber!

Man..the more I see of Hannah, the more I enjoy her character.  I think she's now a close competitor to the basement rats.

Thanks Amber! I just posted the link over in today's comic thread.

And yes, Hannah is definitely interesting. But the rats win in the cuteness department. Especially the sleeping one.

I'm glad that you approve. No taunt this time, since you didn't give me one.

He's taunting you with your own sig.

That's funny.  I remember when he did that to me.

Oh, that's just low. You could at least put the commas in the right place, Corny. Sheesh.

The problem with forum sig attacks is that no one can read them after they're fixed.  *sigh*

Carny added "Jairodent" and "Jairusibble" to my sig. And then modified his reply to add "I'll just edit it myself. ;-]."

I was always taught that commas went inside the quotation marks like so: "Nada,"

But then again, I was always taught to put two spaces after each period, and I haven't done that in years. It just feels silly for some reason.

.....And back up again. Is there any way to find out which server is responsible for which areas?

And yes I'm well aware that I may just asked a 'string length' kind of question

Edit: .....And down again, Wheee!

Suree!  Lets just get everyone to do a tracert on www.missmab.com and see which hop it dies on and then have everyone compare notes.  I'm sure the host won't mind us all doing that. ...

Doesn't anyone read what I wrote?

The ISP are doing Major Network Renovation. This means they're pulling the Internet Streets and relaying them in new patterns on the fly; traceroutes will only be useful if everyone does them at exactly the same time, otherwise we can't tell if the ISP fixed things on the way through.

And since Xepher is already aware of the issue and dealing with it, there's very little we can do to speed things up.

... and it's all back now anyway.

Sarcasm boxy, I was well aware it wouldn't have any effect aside from driving up traffic to machines that they're still playing around with.. but given the readership levels here I don't think it would likely even be a noticeable amount when one considers the capacity of the machines they've likely got rigged up.

I suppose I should have ended that with either a  :B  or a  :rolleyes

See?  I knew giving up coffee was a bad idea.  I've been coffee free for two weeks and look at all that's gone wrong!  Accidents, weak insults and a total failure at proper forum etiquette by forgetting to color one's post with the proper emoticon.  That's it, time for a large coffee.

:U

Quick, break out the No-Doz! ;-]

I dunno.. but the longer I postpone getting that coffee, the more I feel like the walls are closing in on me... maybe that's how you came to be the box you are today!  You realized that you couldn't beat the walls closing in on you so you became the walls!  Ingenious!   :dface

That's not very nice.

I mean, if she's starved, she won't make as much of a meal for him...
