Yes, I know it's not much like me, but I prefer vodka or whiskey. Had one too many rum drinks that went bad...

Rock climbing or rapid kayaking?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Angel on June 30, 2008, 08:45:16 PM
Hmmm. I guess rapid kayaking. At least then you have the more-than-occasional cool spray of water, whereas as fun as rock climbing is, it's probably either very hot or very cold in the places where it's actually good. (Assuming you're climbing real rocks.)

MMORPG or FPS?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Stygian on July 01, 2008, 05:23:13 PM
I play both; my twitchy-fast reflexes and aim contrast highly with my entrepreneurial sense of long-time planning and effort. So I am conflicted. However, there's one deciding point here; I don't play regular MMORPGs, which are about constant, relatively safe grinding with little or no loss. I play EVE online, which is about ruthless, relatively unsafe competition, with tremendous loss taking place everywhere. So I'm going to have to go with FPS. Just because I like to be able to watch and know that it was by my own skill that I was able to so accurately and swiftly perforate that one fellow's head.

Squirrels are cuter. Plus, how exactly do angels have babies? According to Dogma, they're "as anatomically impaired as a Ken doll."

Adam Savage or Jamie Hyneman? (The Mythbusters guys, if you haven't heard of them)

The cake is a lie. I'll have a cookie (unlike Jyrras, who was too traumatized to accept Albanion's gift)

I've always believed in mind over matter myself. Not in a psychic sense, however.

Black magic all the way.

Arcane arts or psychic powers?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 11:51:27 AM
I presume this is a D&D reference, so I'm gonna go with Arcane arts. Psychic powers.

Buster Sword or First Ken/Tsurugi?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Ren Gaulen on July 06, 2008, 11:58:41 AM
Buster Sword, because I am not sure what the other one is.

Courage or Fearlessness (as in inability to feel fear).
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 12:06:35 PM
Courage. The ability to stand up to one's fears is greater than the inability to feel fear.

The First Ken/Tsurugi is(are) the sword(s) that Cloud used in Advent Children. It was basically six swords of varying designs that could be combined together into a Buster Sword-shaped sword.

And now to inflame the fandom...

Tifa or Aeris? [runs and hides]

Sunshine. Had enough of rain for a couple of lifetimes..

Heat or cold?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 12:28:02 PM
Hm... I actually kind of prefer cold weather myself, mainly because I can bundle up whereas I can't exactly strip down during hot weather.

Katana or Gatling gun?

Katana. Because I like swords.

Master Asia or Domon Kasshu?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 12:36:08 PM
For the moment, Master Asia. Not many people can destroy a frikkin' mobile suit (even a mecha mook) with just a bloody TOWEL!

Rising Gundam or Nobel Gundam?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Ren Gaulen on July 06, 2008, 12:40:18 PM
Nobel Gundam all the way. Mostly because of the pilot, though.. :3

For the Emperor, or against the Emperor?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 12:42:35 PM
Well, that all depends on which Emperor we're talking about...
I guess that you're talking about Warhammer 40,000 though, so I'm going to safely say "suicide." That world freaks me out.

Portable rail-gun or portable gatling gun?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Ren Gaulen on July 06, 2008, 12:49:08 PM
Rail-gun all the way.

Swords or hammers?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 12:53:19 PM
A hammer makes a better torture device than a weapon. You need to make a warhammer (the kind that looks a bit like a truncated pickaxe) before you've got yourself a viable weapon of war. A sword is a good general purpose weapon, though.

Morph-o-Ray (turns enemies into chickens) or RYNO (kills everyone really fast)?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: VSMIT on July 06, 2008, 12:58:23 PM
Morph-o-Ray, because of the fact that it doesn't kill them, and you can eat the chickens for dinner afterward.

Shining Gundam or God Gundam?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 01:08:40 PM
God Gundam. Can you say "Bakunetsu God Finger" or "These hands of ours are burning red! Their loud cry tells us to grasp happiness! Erupting Burning Finger! Sekiha Love Love Tenkyouken!"?

Master Gundam or the other three of the Four Kings?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Master Gundam.  Only because Master Asia was so damn badass.

Ultimate Gundam or Devil Gundam?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 01:20:06 PM
Devil Gundam. It's the size of a freaking colony by the time they're done with it!

George de Sand or Chibodee Crocket? (on another note, I can safely say that I've never had any kind of conversation this long about G Gundam)
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Ren Gaulen on July 06, 2008, 01:27:57 PM
Chibodee Crocket. Despite his atrocious hair.

Sai Saichi or Argo Gultskiy?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 01:33:05 PM
Argo. He gets props for not needing a rapier or a magnum or a pair of boxing gloves or flags or flame-breathing arms, but just for using what is fundamentally a ball on the end of a (beam) chain.

Karato or Wong?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 06, 2008, 01:55:38 PM
Wong, because it's always the wong number.

Gas or electricity?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Electricity, because gas is not as fun (unless you make it ignite).

Steam or electricity? >:3
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 02:06:47 PM
Steam: everyone knows that steam engines can power anything, from ships to trains to automotives to giant flying castles to little one-man flying platforms...

Steampunk or Cyberpunk?

Post, and avoid annoying the mods. It is always a good idea to never annoy the mods, considering that they are wonderful people who make everything fun for everyone. :mowhappy

Disney's Robin Hood or The Lion King?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 06, 2008, 06:42:49 PM
Robin Hood. At least with that they admitted they stole the story.

Mess with your hair or mess with your head?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 06:45:39 PM
My hair can't be messed with. It's physically impossible: it just goes right back to normal after about five-ten minutes.

Disney's The Jungle Book or Disney's Talespin?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Ren Gaulen on July 06, 2008, 06:51:25 PM
Talespin. Because it was on TV in my area when I was a kid.

Tolkien or Zelazny?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 06:55:09 PM
I've never read Zelazny, but from looking at his Wikipedia page he sounds like my kind of author. Plus, I'm just not a fan of Tolkien.

In much the same thought, Tolkien or Rowling?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 06, 2008, 07:11:23 PM
Tolkien; bad as he was, at least he wasn't a cheap rip-off.

Pounds or Euros?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 07:22:29 PM
Euros. They're Eu-niversal (hah) and they're pretty.

Martin Luther or King Henry VIII? (yes some americans know a little history)
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 06, 2008, 07:30:58 PM
Henry. He had eight wives, and any man who can outlive 8 women without being hen-pecked is a man to respect.

Euros are also worth peanuts. Although the free-falling green-back helps it look better.

Civility or unprintability?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 07:44:49 PM
Unprintability. It'll get printed anyway. Besides, PC things tend to lose respect in my book. It's part of the reason why I love George Carlin.

Cats or dogs? (did someone ask this already?)
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 06, 2008, 07:49:00 PM
Dogs. There's more meat on them.

Bush or Shrub?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 06, 2008, 08:02:56 PM
Shrub. Shrubbers are in fairly short supply, and you never know when some crazy dudes in the forest will need one or two of them.

Vlad the Impaler or Dracula?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Valynth on July 06, 2008, 10:31:04 PM
Vlad, because his methods would send Freud and his slips into a seizure.

King in a dark age or citizen in a golden age?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 07, 2008, 12:23:47 AM
I'll go with Citizen. For some reason, I imagine that my life expectancy would be slightly longer, and I really don't want to have the concerns of an entire country resting on my shoulders. I'm just not the leader type.

Meat Pizza or Vegetarian?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Valynth on July 07, 2008, 12:29:49 AM

artist or writer.
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 07, 2008, 11:12:08 AM
Well, most of the time they're the same thing. If by artist you mean painter, then I'm gonna have to say artist, since drawing is one of the things I cannot do very well. Chalk it up to envy, if you will.

Historical fiction or history book?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Valynth on July 07, 2008, 01:28:03 PM
History book.  Sometimes reality is far more entertaining than fiction.

The bitter truth or a sweet lie?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 07, 2008, 01:30:43 PM
Sometimes the truth hurts more than the lies, but the pain is of the good kind, the kind that burns clean, while the lies continue to fester for long after they are told.

Gandalf or Dumbledore?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 07, 2008, 02:43:41 PM

Post by: Slowtini on July 08, 2008, 04:00:00 PM
Such... a... tough... decision...

Solid snake, he has a magical bandana that grants him infinite ammo. James bond just has a cool car.

Also, The box trick works. I've tried it.

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 09, 2008, 09:42:07 AM
Mogg. Purebred cats tend to have all sorts of medical issues; your average tabby is far healthier, particularly if it eats birds.

Cubi or Dragon?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 09, 2008, 12:58:10 PM
Cubi. Abel's a Cubi, and everyone's gay for Abel. In all seriousness, the Cubi currently come across as the more interesting of the two, but considering that we only know one dragon and have only seen a few of the other ones, we don't have all that much info on the dragons yet. And I am still mentally pronouncing "Cubi" as "Cube-ee." It's annoying.

(I was referring to Devil May Cry, incidentally)

Angel or Demon? (from the DMFA-verse)
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: VSMIT on July 09, 2008, 12:59:59 PM

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on July 09, 2008, 03:18:04 PM
Mousetrap. I'll take a shattered toe over the death of something that didn't deserve it.  I don't like killing innocent things unnecessarily.  Unless they started it.  Then it's their own fault.

Conserve or Destroy?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Slowtini on July 09, 2008, 03:27:00 PM
Conserve.
You never know when you're going to need to MacGuyver a toilet paper tube, an old hanger, a weedwhacker that hasn't worked since the early 90s, and parts of an old computer into a nuclear weapon.

Z-Saber. It is the resulting offspring of a katana and a lightsaber (which is already a laser chainsaw). It does not get more awesome that that.

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Metahuman.  It sounds a lot more positive than Mutant.

Superhero with a secret identity (a la Superman), or superhero where everybody knows who you are (a la Hancock)?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 10, 2008, 01:50:46 AM
Secret Identity. I'd rather like having the ability to go about and have a fairly normal life. Sure, I'd have to worry about people learning my secret identity, but at least I could go to school (Yes, I'm a university student.)

Bruce Wayne or Terry McGinnis?

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Angel on July 10, 2008, 09:59:21 AM

Billy Joel or Elton John?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on July 10, 2008, 10:06:35 AM
Billy Joel.  Unfortunate time to use this but also a rock and a hard place...While both make excellent music for their respective genre they've both had so many flops that I'm not sure what to do with them.  However, Sir Elton John has disappointed me more.

Darkness. All the way. They get the best outfits, the best powers, and the best weapons. And they have cookies.

Dirtbike or ATV?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on July 11, 2008, 07:18:43 AM

Indoors. Outdoors is nice (and I do like taking walks when the temperature isn't above ninety degrees fahrenheit (32 degrees celsius for the rest of the world)), but I'm more of an indoors person.

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 15, 2008, 02:20:33 AM
Mab's walnut free brownies. I'd like to truly understand the horrors that inspire Jyrras to still have nightmares about it two years later, and be considered worse than his two friends hating him and his new friend being a rotten liar.

Pancakes or Waffles?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on July 15, 2008, 11:38:44 AM

Chicken or Beef?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 15, 2008, 11:39:46 AM

Rain or shine?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 15, 2008, 01:03:17 PM
Hm... I actually kind of like both. I like to sit and listen to the rain, and I like to walk in the shine. I'll go with shine, since I don't have to wear a raincoat and carry an umbrella.

Ski or Snowboard?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: VSMIT on July 15, 2008, 02:51:52 PM

Veal or Venison?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on July 15, 2008, 02:53:58 PM

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Attack or Retreat?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Warhammer or Warcraft?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on July 16, 2008, 02:50:02 PM
Warhammer.  Mainly due to the fact that warcraft was based on warhammer iirc.

Rapier or Scimitar?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 03:29:14 PM
Scimitar. I'm better at the cutting than the poking.

Consoles or PC?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 03:31:44 PM
Eh, given how I've got one PC game (StarCraft), I'm gonna go with consoles. There just aren't as many PC games that I'm interested in - StarCraft II not withstanding.

War hammer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_hammer) or Morning star (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_star_%28weapon%29)?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 03:37:40 PM
So long as the morning star isn't a chained mace, I'll go with that one. Better chance to connect something sharp with something squishy. What's with all these weapon choices?

Coloured Pencils or Crayons?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 03:46:31 PM
Colored pencils. But crayons have a nice nostalgic feel to them.

I like weapons.

Bazooka or Sniper rifle?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 04:05:02 PM
Hmm... a bazooka is slow, but packs a huge punch. The rifle requires skill, but will do less collateral damage...
Bazooka, as a pyromaniac, I really had no choice.

Purgatory or reincarnation?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 04:15:16 PM
It all depends... would I retain prior memories of my old life? I still think I'd go with reincarnation.

Flamethrower or Grenade?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 04:17:10 PM
Flamethrower. Sure they have to get close, but seriously, *one* grenade?

Fact or Truthiness?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 04:19:36 PM
Fact. I prefer reality.

Colbert. No questions.

method or madness?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 04:31:59 PM
Madness may be the emergency exit from life, but a method gives direction and focus to the madness.

One For All or All For One?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 04:40:32 PM
I'll take communism over dictatorship. (one for all beats all for one)

turn based or real time?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on July 16, 2008, 05:08:33 PM
Real time.  Gotta stay on your toes.

RPG or MMORPG?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 05:09:21 PM
MMORPG. I never got used to fighting alongside other players.

Incidentally, Pagan, I was referring to the motto of the Three Musketeers.

BFS or BFG?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: VSMIT on July 16, 2008, 05:12:07 PM
BFG.  Can do a lot more damage than a lot of things.

Doom or Quake?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 05:15:07 PM
I'd answer this, but I've never played either of them. Eh, how about Quake: from what I've heard, it was a major influence on gaming in general.

Talk-talky-puzzle-solvey or hack-slashy-main-a-thon?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 05:37:20 PM
Puzzles over button mashing.

I had a feeling that's what you were referencing, but who doesn't like spinning words to a different meaning?

Wallet or watch?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 05:38:53 PM
Watch. I like to know what time it is.

Basically, I was saying Puzzle game or Combat game?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 06:15:24 PM
Hmm... I like puzzles over nimd mumbing violence, but I think I'd prefer combat game to an entire *puzzle* game. Don't get me wrong, Portal was awesome, but I liked God of War more.

Pair or Party?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: GabrielsThoughts on July 16, 2008, 06:35:52 PM
I'd prefer a pair of slippers and a comfy anything  to a party.

Lightning or Microwaves?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 06:37:02 PM
Anything's possible with lightning. Mwahaha...

The Mummy.

Jack.

Jet Li or Jackie Chan?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 06:45:50 PM
Jackie Chan. He's funnier.

Mr. T or Chuck Norris?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Stygian on July 16, 2008, 10:03:24 PM
Chuck Norris. He has a better haircut, and can actually aim.

Here's one that I don't really expect everyone to catch on so quickly. Not here, at least...

Muay Thai or Shotokan?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 10:06:21 PM
Hm, toughie... I'll go with Muay Thai. I'm not normally a fan of kickboxing (or boxing at all), but this looks interesting.

Katana or Tsurugi?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Stygian on July 16, 2008, 10:09:09 PM
Katana. Easy. I like the grip more, and curved swords always have been a superior design. Simple physics.

Muscle car or superbike?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 10:11:52 PM
Muscle car. I can't drive a motorcycle, and just because you own something doesn't mean you have to use it...

Main Gauche or Bayonet?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Stygian on July 16, 2008, 11:03:53 PM
Main gauche. I really like fencing, and a bayonet really has no damn place in modern combat.

Yacht or speedboat?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 11:18:47 PM
Yacht. I know it sounds stupid, but it's another thing I have in common with Jyrras: a mild fear of deep water. It just makes me really nervous to be out on open water. Whenever I'm on a boat, I stay inside the cabin or as far away from the edge as I can, and I prefer slower boats to fast ones. I have barely forgiven my mother for the time she forced me to ride with her on a jetski. Man does she go fast!

Hydrophobia or Acrophobia?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 11:40:59 PM
Acrophobia. Scared of heights, scared to death of heights. Water's cool though.

Deaf or Blind?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 11:46:19 PM
Shoot. That's a good one. Um, on the one hand, if I was blind, I couldn't really read or write any more (I'm not good at braille, and few people really are). And on the other hand, if I was deaf, I couldn't listen to music or people talking anymore, which is one of my favorite activities. And now I'm feeling a little depressed.

You're really afraid of heights? Wow, I'm sorry to hear that.

Left hand or right hand?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 16, 2008, 11:49:58 PM
Terrified. But it makes roller coasters all the better: more fear, more adreniline, more fun!

Being left handed, the choice is clear. I'd keep ol' L and lose righty at a crossroads.

For my own question, I would have gone with blind. Sure, I lose video games and books, but I will never give up music.

lead or mercury?

Flashlight or latern?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 16, 2008, 11:56:55 PM
Lantern. Sure, you don't get the focused beam of light, but you get it spread out a little more. Though a lantern with a collapsible shield to focus the light in one direction is even better (my dad had a few like that).

Disco or Rap?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: VSMIT on July 17, 2008, 01:13:12 AM
While both suck, I'd have to choose disco.  Rap is just erotic poetry put to music.

Short Skirt or a Loooong Jacket?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 17, 2008, 03:36:41 PM
Long jacket. It's badass enough to make me only look dorky, rather than ultra-dorky.

Salt or pepper?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 17, 2008, 03:38:06 PM

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 17, 2008, 07:18:43 PM
Brunette. I'd rather have someone with a brain between her ears. Gives me something to do when we're not in bed.

Brunette or Redhead?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 17, 2008, 07:30:33 PM
Hm, I guess brunette. Though I'm not sure why... one of my earliest crushes was a redhead, though... another one was blond. Damned if she wasn't one of the best students in our class! And beautiful, too!

Hm.

fonsworth or wormstrum?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 12:45:58 AM

Zapp Brannigan or William Shatner?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: VSMIT on July 18, 2008, 02:18:15 AM
Shatner.  At least he pretended he knew what he was doing.

Kif or Spock?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 02:19:18 AM
Spock. We need to stop talking about things of which I have limited knowledge.

Plains or mountians?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 02:22:15 AM
I just love looking at mountains... from a distance.

Lake trip or beach trip? (personally, I hate going to ocean beaches, but I want to hear from you guys)
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 02:27:33 AM
Beach. Sure there's sand and salt in the water, but damn, look at all the bikinis.

Disposable camera or digital?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 02:29:54 AM
Digital. I just love technology.

As for my reasons for hating the beach... I used to love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and I'd make one for when we went to the beach as a family. You can only get sand in your favorite sandwich so many times. Also, I don't like going into the ocean... I'm kind of afraid of bodies of water where I can't see the bottom.

Spork or Fork?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 02:41:17 AM
Much as I hate the things... spork. It's three in one for crowe's sake. Spoon, fork, and a (curved, weak and dull) knife.

Deodorant or antiprespirant?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 02:46:21 AM
Deodorant. Antiperspirants don't really work all that well for me. Besides, there's a reason I like to wear dark t-shirts underneath and unbuttoned short-sleeve shirt...

I don't know if this has been asked, but Abel or Jyrras?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 02:52:55 AM
Jyrras. He's techy. Kinda resonates with me too.

Alluninum can or plastic bottle?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 02:56:57 AM
Plastic bottle. I can wash it out and refill it with water from my filter, and thus save a fortune on water bottles. I've basically using the same twenty water bottles for the last nine months (it helps that they're really freaking rugged - not like normal cheapo bottles).

Zombie-Pirate or Zombie-Ninja?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 03:01:08 AM
Zombie-Pirate. Smell would lower stealth abilities considerably. Pirates stink already, what's decaying skin going to do?
I prefer cans, they're always so cold. The way the metal meets lip, aaaah. I love it.

Passion or calm?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 03:03:48 AM
Passion can do many things, but true calmness and serenity grants one control over one's passion, allowing one to release it when it is needed. (I actually have a character who basically says the same thing: it's kind of sad, actually)

Okay, Cyborg-Pirates or Cyborg-Ninja?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 03:18:50 AM
Cyborg-Ninja. Mech parts ruin the fun of rum and... warm companionship.

Water or wine?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 03:23:09 AM
Water. I've had wine a few times at my parent's house (and a few beers... and a shot of tequila... and a sip of vodka. The beer wasn't half bad, the tequila had a nice taste but I spent the next day with a headache, and the vodka made me a little woozy even before I drank it. I know now that one of my characters (he's an elf, and about 3'9", for the record) could easily get drunk enough off of a shot of tequila to not remember anything that happened during the night)... um, I'm rambling aren't I? Suffice to say, I don't really like the taste of alcohol.

Green tea or black tea?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 03:28:30 AM
Green tea. It kinda tastes like the flavored water I like and it was the only thing at my friends appartment for two days.

I was actually refering to a Incubus song "Drive"...

Morbid love ballad or doubting philosophical monologue?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 03:31:49 AM
I love a good monologue. They're so fun to memorize and say in front of an audience.

Musical or drama?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 03:37:07 AM
Drama. Musicals will burn before the end of my days upon this rock.

Through or around?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 03:39:26 AM
Around. I don't know, I kind of like it actually when I get to lengthen the journey a little bit.

Personally, I love musicals, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

ET for the Atari or Big Rigs (aka the worst game ever made)?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 03:49:34 AM
ET. Though both are poison.

Endure or solve?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 03:53:25 AM
If you solve it, you don't have to endure as long as you would have to if you simply decided to endure.

Okay, semi-reference to my earlier famous video game weapons...

Morph-Gun (Jak and Daxter) or OmniWrench (Ratchet and Clank)?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 03:57:21 AM
Morph-Gun. Jak beats Ratchet any day. No questions. Especailly the one from Jak 2.

Archive trawl or binge the trope wiki?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 03:59:43 AM
Which archive would you be bingeing on? Of course, the Trope wiki (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Tropes) is always fun...

Dark Jak or Light Jak?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 04:04:19 AM
Dangit. I thought trawl was the one where you do several binges one after the other...

Dark Jak.

Chalkboard or dry-erase board?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 04:06:25 AM
Oh, well, maybe I got binge/trawl mixed up. I'll look it up on a dictionary later.

Um, dry-erase board. I can't stand the sound of chalk.

Chili or Gumbo?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 04:13:12 AM
Chilay! Mmmm, I could go for some now.

soup or salad?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 04:16:52 AM
Honestly, it depends on the soup or salad. If it's a caesar salad, I'll probably go for it.

George Lucas or Gene Roddenberry?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 04:34:18 AM
Lucas, if only because I'm familiar with him.

Anyone can Die or Death is Cheap?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 04:36:09 AM
Anyone can Die. Sure, the emotional shock is harder, but it really helps to make you more interested in the story.

Tarantino or Peckinpah?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 04:42:48 AM
Again I am forced by the hand of lack of knowledge. Tarantino.

Tell me the name of this universe you keep alluding to or keep me in the dark?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 04:46:50 AM
How about a working title instead: "Final Realm." It's just the general collective name for the stories that all take place more or less parallel to each other, while the one I'm really focused right now is categorized as "Terra," but that's going to change.

Early to bed or Early to rise?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: e_voyager on July 18, 2008, 09:54:27 AM
Early to rise i sleep at one am and wake by 7 eight a the latest.

robotizer or tekkaman?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 12:37:20 PM
I'll go with Tekkaman, since I've never heard of Robotizer.

Steve Irwin or Steve Jobs?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 02:30:02 PM
Irwin. I like my ipod, but I am still one of the few Apple haters in geekdom.

Cereal or toast?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 02:33:00 PM
Toast. Similar to my problem with beaches and peanut butter sandwiches, once the cereal gets soggy you just can't eat it. As for just not putting milk in my cereal... well, then it's just a snack that I nibble on.

Cheerios or Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 18, 2008, 02:35:24 PM
CTC. I always eat cereal dry anyway. With milk in a glass. Yeah, I'm weird.

books or comics?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 02:38:15 PM
Books. I was never a comics person. The closest I get to comics are my manga. And those are graphic novels, not comic books. (note the irony, please).

Vorpal Blade or Buster Sword?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on July 18, 2008, 02:45:09 PM
Buster Sword.  I'm 6'2".  I'd like a sword that compliments that.

Speed or comfort?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 18, 2008, 02:48:08 PM
Comfort. Sitting really still for two hours while driving to visit my parents has convinced me to do something about my seat. Maybe a massaging seat cover...

Marion Ravenwood or Elsa Schneider?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 19, 2008, 03:04:45 AM
Ravenwood. Cooler name. I don't even know what subject either is in though.

Should I or not?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 19, 2008, 03:10:31 AM
Well, it depends on what you will or will not do, really.

Marion Ravenwood and Elsa Schneider are Indiana Jones' love interests from Raider's of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade respectively.

Death Eaters or Organization XIII?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 19, 2008, 03:59:26 AM
Death Eaters. Not having played the Chain of Memories game, I don't know the Org too well and am not inclined towards them regardless.

Ah, then definitly Ravenwood. I want nothing of that nazi.
And the action that I'm debating is getting off my ass and writing my story.

You demon is on the left shoulder or right?

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 19, 2008, 04:07:01 AM
Oh, in that case, get off your ass and write your story! (says the guy who is currently designing costumes for every one of his main characters. I like the Hybrid Elf's multi-colored patterned scarfs, personally, especially since they're the only color on a costume consisting of black/gray and various shades of blue... (so sue me, blue's my favorite color!))

Incidentally, both shoulders. One of them's just nicer than the other. I think he's the evil one.

Carrot cake or cheese cake?

CHEESECAKE!!!!

Master Chief (http://www.sfgate.com/blogs/images/sfgate/techchron/2007/09/26/bu_h3chief498x351.jpg) or The Arbiter (http://api.ning.com/files/pd*B-8xz2SToD1*Mf8Axreyo-XyjRC8oFEEP*RIYp5UKvcdv7XkzBGvR5KgpRQToRgZTUv39zeTIIa4i47G1*wsFYdanZqQb/Arbiter_from_Halo_2_by_Kamino185.jpg)?

Post by: Pagan on July 19, 2008, 04:14:20 AM
In either meaning of the word, I choose cheesecake. Tasty desert or appealing fanservice, either is a boon to the day.

Bah, you only create universes, but do have you written the tales within them? A god of creation is simple, a god of action and keeping the followers in check? ... I think I lost this metaphor(gotten).
So the angel's out of a job?

mouse or a keyboard?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on July 19, 2008, 09:38:48 AM
Keyboard. If there aren't keyboard shortcuts, then your app needs training in UI.

Besides, while the mouse is useful, the keyboard is significantly faster at what it does.

Top Gear or Fifth Gear?

Physical or Mental prowess?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Ponytail. Hair down == having to wash & detangle it all over again the next day, which, while good hygiene, is still a pain in the ass.

Long-way around. At least you know where you are.

Hey, did you see the episode of Futurama where Atlanta is revealed to have sunk to the bottom of the sea and the Coca-Cola plant accelerated evolution to the point that all of the Atltantaeans have become mer-people?

Ahem.

Futurama or The Simpsons? (those who have followed The Ban Game and know what my high school nickname was can pretty safely guess which one I'd pick)
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 20, 2008, 01:51:50 AM
I think this nickname might have been discussed during my period of wandering. So I'll go with Futurama, it'd be my answer anyway. Never saw that episode, but it sounds cool. Givin' the Alt some props and all.

Pizza or wings?

My nickname in high school was Ralph Wiggum. Search that combination of words throughout The Arena, and you'll learn the whole story.

Plain or toppings?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 20, 2008, 02:03:21 AM
I presume you mean ice cream, in which case I have to say plain.

In short, I was a nerd with an annoying voice (if you listen to Jyrras' voice actor in the radio show, that gives you a good idea of how I sounded when I was thirteen or so... dang, another similarity I have to Jyrras. GET OUT OF MY HEAD, AMBER!) who didn't like sports and spent all of his free-time in the library. I was the weirdo who didn't so much fit in as I didn't try to fit in. I guess I didn't really feel the need. Anyway, that's enough of my life...

Chocolate or vanilla?

I had meant pizza toppings... But vanilla. Though really, I dislike ice cream. (Less than hate, more than aversion.)

Resonates with me as well... 'cept for the voice. Your tale, I mean.

take a sleeping pill or toss and turn?

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 20, 2008, 02:13:37 AM
Toss and turn. I get the best ideas just as I'm falling asleep... which is why I have a notebook right next to my bed. Yes, I am in fact a nerd. And according to last night's notes... "Lazerai represent the combination of wizardry and warlockry which is why theyre so powerful. Maybe the successful one. Strife was first." Hm. That actually kind of makes sense after a day of trying to remember why I scribbled it.

Window open or fan on?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 20, 2008, 02:17:38 AM
The house I live in is a little older than 48 years. The windows in this house have been shut for longer than nearly two decades. Opening those windows would both require herculian strength and a thick dusk mask. The fan's on if the A/C dies. Which it has, often. And probably will. Often.

...is that from your universe-in-creation?

Dreams or empty sleep?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on July 20, 2008, 02:24:59 AM
Dreams. I've had some really cool ones... including the one where dinosaurs invaded my university campus. I didn't know I could fire a missile launcher... which is the point where I realized that it was a dream and I started playing with it. It's so much fun to have lucid dreams: I have them all the time.

Okay, in brief: Lazerai are believed to be a true cross (not a Hybrid - that's different) between angels and demons, though no one knows for sure (there's a few rules at play, and let's just say that an Angel and Demon getting together are not going to make a Lazerai.) Wizardry is natural-born magic power, while Sorcery is magic you gain through study and training. Warlockry is basically the ability to perform one type of magic only (like only fire magic or only shapeshifting) that is passed down to your children, and might have been an attempt to copy the natural powers of Creatures. The Lazerai might be the result of an experiment to grant Warlocks the ability to use magic without sorcery. And Azra'eil the Strife might have been the first Lazerai. PHEW! I need to start posting this stuff in the Tower to get feedback. This should be the last of my in-universe stuff I'm posting here, so don't call me out on it, I'm taking care.

Total insanity or total sanity?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on July 20, 2008, 02:45:29 AM
Insanity. I'd bet that with total insanity, lucidness would be out the window but you would still think you're sane. But hell, at least it'd be fun. Everyone's sane and they live their dull grey and bleached white. Give me blinding yellow, macabre red, drowning blue.

Humility or pride?

Baseball bat or hockey stick (for hitting things)?

Baseball bat. While the hockey stick might be more exotic, the shape just doesn't aid in thwacking.

I'm suprised you didn't say I was completely evil for asking something like that.

You can't get more classy than a sword, but since I haven't handled a sword in years I'll stick with the reach of a spear. Temporarily.

Both, of course! Although I admit to usually carrying a book around with me, rather than a handheld game system... of course, I don't have a handheld game system since I can't find my GBA SP. Note to self, buy DS and PSP before 358/2 and Birth by Sleep come out.

The Hulk or The Thing?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

The Hulk. The Thing wasn't his own character, and thus not as much attention was paid to his character in general. (That's my opinion anyway.) Mullet or spiked? (hair)

I personally would choose shapeshifting, mainly for the fact that ya' could turn your hands into toasters and punch people in the face.
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jer-oh-me on August 05, 2008, 10:57:53 PM

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 06, 2008, 03:42:19 AM
Hm. I'll go with Furry: I don't think I'd enjoy being a robot, and being a Furry wouldn't be too different from now. Then again, I don't know what species I'd be if I was a furry...

RoboCop or Inspector Gadget?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: e_voyager on August 06, 2008, 03:46:55 AM

Bart Allan or Wally West?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 06, 2008, 03:48:50 AM
I presume you're talking about the DC superhero the Flash? Wally West, he's the only one I know about, which is how I can guess about Allan.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego or Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?

Life of peace or Life of adventure?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Angel on August 06, 2008, 08:48:27 PM

Wash or Jayne?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 07, 2008, 01:53:17 AM
"Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!" I like Wash a little more, but Jayne gets some good moments too, especially in the movie when he actually agrees with River... I had goosebumps at that point, and I didn't even see the show until after I owned the movie. Of course, Wash gets "I am a leaf on the wind: watch how I soar." Awesome.

Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Pagan on August 10, 2008, 05:26:16 PM
Dare. Doesn't matter if you have to do something stupid, better than answering a question. Sides, "Bones heal and chicks dig scars."

Hard candy or chocolate?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 10, 2008, 05:32:35 PM

Racing or FPS?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 11, 2008, 10:24:50 AM
Oh, you are evil: two of the types of games that I hate. Um, FPS, since racing is just a little boring. Unless you have missiles and traps and stuff like that (flashes back to Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 and starts humming the theme song)

Actual voices or "simlish" with subtitles?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Stygian on August 11, 2008, 03:20:35 PM
Actual voices. I don't care much for that other thing. We've progressed enough in computing... Oh, also, Jairus, speaking of that former question; If you don't like WipeOut, or haven't tried it, I feel sorry for you.

Fantasy MMORPGs or Sci-Fi MMORPGs?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Slowtini on August 11, 2008, 03:21:24 PM
...I'd have to go with fantasy, just because of Dragons.

Tabletop RPGs, or Online RPGs.
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Angel on August 11, 2008, 05:27:23 PM
Tabletop RPGs. It's how i got my start, and because of the usual half-presence of parents of the host, they're less addicting. Not to mention more fun.

Keyboards or pianos?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Stygian on August 11, 2008, 05:38:09 PM
Pianos. Keyboards are for studios and effects, and for practice. But when it comes to style, there is nothing superior to the feel and sound of a Steinway...

Here's one for my sentiments... Having to sit out a bunch of people of either dubious or downright nerdish character filling out forms and debating about numbers for an hour or two, and then slobbering cheetos while someone desperately tries to induce emotions of any sort for an equal amount of time, before at last the pencils fall and people decide to play Heroes of Might and Magic V instead, or having to go through an hour of rigorous weight lifting and straining under the supervision of a sour drill sergeant, followed by a bike ride to do gymnastics to irritating dance music and led on by an instructor who hasn't been able to get all the cellulites off her ass and who clearly has a sub-par fashion sense?

:3
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: shadowterm on August 11, 2008, 05:50:01 PM
The nerdy stuff, because I have the uncanny ability to render myself impervious to emotionally and mentally damaging things, while physical activities exhaust me faster than anyone I know. At least the running does.

Stride gum or 5 gum?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jer-oh-me on August 11, 2008, 06:35:55 PM
5 gum, I hate Stride's ads. Which makes me wonder what sorts of commercials you all like?

Coke's CGI spots or BK's Creepy King spots?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on August 12, 2008, 06:56:48 AM
Ugh, neither but since I must I'll go with Coke since I kinda hate the king.

Sunrise or Sundown?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on August 12, 2008, 07:30:20 AM
Sundown. It's when people stop bothering me and I start getting stuff done...

PC or Mac?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on August 12, 2008, 08:02:02 AM
Oh, both are good in so many ways, but due to the overwhelming presence of them in my life, I'll go with PC.

Dual monitors or one big wide screen?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on August 12, 2008, 09:48:38 AM
Dual. Preferably triple or quad, if I can, though. Yes, I do actually use the space.

MSN or AIM?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on August 12, 2008, 09:54:53 AM
MSN.  I steer clear of anything AoL... that's right, I'll take M$ over AoL.  Btw, I'm on a triple set up here at work llearch, it's sublime.

E-mail or Text Message?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on August 12, 2008, 10:04:24 AM
Email. At least with those you can type a reasonable message. And anyone who doesn't respond to emails inside of 20 minutes when they're on-line... ?? ;-]

Personally, I prefer AIM to MSN. If only because it works - but then, I'm using a third-party app. pidgin rocks, but keeps crashing with a double malloc free when something sends it something via MSN...

*cough*

Ok, tough one. MSN or Jabber?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on August 12, 2008, 10:08:00 AM
MSN has always worked well for me, but I've gotten quite used to Jabber from work.  So Jabber it is.

I've always been fond of Trillian as far as third-party apps go as I used to have friends who used any number of different messengers.  Most of them are on MSN now so that became my soul messenger for now.

So now for an easy one:

Gmail or Hotmail?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on August 12, 2008, 10:12:47 AM
Oooo.

Gmail doesn't delete any of your email. Ever. Even if you "delete" it, it simply removes it from your view, not deletes it. On the other hand, hotmail is associated with that spawn of Satan, Microsoft.

Then again, Google hasn't done a number of things they could to limit spam. And Microsoft... well, MSN is much the same, really.

I'm gonna go with gmail. Not because I want to, but because I think they're the lesser of two evils, in this case.

So. Mumorgypoo, or tabletop RPG?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Floorlamps or desklamps
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 13, 2008, 03:44:49 AM
Floorlamps. I have no room on my desks or tables for lamps.

This is actually bothering me about my writing...

Hmm...Another chapter.

Words or actions?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 13, 2008, 03:48:45 AM
Well, with words you can solve conflicts peacefully and with a minimum of fuss, while with actions you get to solve conflicts with fists and physical violence... Well, when words fail, the actions are there as a backup.

Thanks for the recommendation... I wonder if I could do ten pages tomorrow?

Indiana Jones or Han Solo?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Nikki on August 13, 2008, 03:53:05 AM

Darth Maul or General Grievous?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 13, 2008, 03:55:59 AM
Grievous. I don't care if he didn't have force powers or got his butt kicked in Episode III, he rocked so hard in Clone Wars.

Serenity or Millennium Falcon? (the two coolest rust bucket that have ever existed... the TARDIS is not a rust bucket)
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

The Falcon, FTW  8)

Star Wars or Star Trek?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 13, 2008, 04:03:51 AM
Oh dear, this is tough. I mean, there's no choice in my mind, but I'll probably end up alienating and making enemies of half of the three or four people who read my thread and comment. Oh well. *deep breath*

Star Wars. I want a Millennium Falcon over an Enterprise. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Firefly or Buffy?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Nikki on August 13, 2008, 04:12:11 AM

Temple of Doom or The Last Crusade?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jer-oh-me on August 13, 2008, 06:17:59 AM
Crusade, Temple should have been an early sign of how crappy the Star Wars prequels would be.

The "No Ticket." moment on the Zeppelin or the pull out your revolver and shoot the idiot with the sword moment?

Luke's first or second lightsaber?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Mao on August 13, 2008, 07:27:20 AM

Jedi or Sith?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Angel on August 13, 2008, 11:12:47 AM
Jedi. Even though I have to admit, the Sith get cooler lightsaber wielding skillz.

Walter from Hellsing or Alfred from Batman?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 13, 2008, 11:19:32 AM
Alfred. He works for Batman.

Alfred or Norman? If you don't know who Norman is, you need to watch some a really good show.
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on August 13, 2008, 11:21:18 AM
Walter.

What other butler is there who can kill you faster than anyone up to and including the master of the house?

Alfred. Norman is just irritating.

Work, or go postal?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 13, 2008, 11:23:24 AM
Well, that depends on what kind weaponry you're packing... you've gotta go postal in style, after all.

Yeah, plus I have to imagine that Batman could come up with a way to defeat Big O.

Sprite or Mountain Dew?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: VSMIT on August 13, 2008, 11:36:00 AM

Valenth or Dragoncave?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 13, 2008, 12:06:27 PM
So far I'm only doing Dragon Cave, but I'm thinking about giving Valenth a try after my next dragon grows up.

Jack Skellington or Sandy Claws?

Letting this thread die in an undignified obscurity or attempt to follow on once in a while?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on August 14, 2008, 10:53:28 AM
The former.

It's the lot in life of all threads to eventually die in obscurity, or to be hammered into silence in a burst of annoyance. The latter isn't so good.

Fish or chips?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Cogidubnus on August 14, 2008, 10:56:54 AM
Fish. Although I hear both are actually a very greasy meal...

Cheesecake or Pie?

Horror or thriller?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 14, 2008, 01:43:45 PM
Thriller! Thriller night! And no one's gonna save you from the beast that's in the night! (I don't care if I got the words wrong, it's been years since I heard the thing in its entirety)

Sci-Fi or Fantasy?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Angel on August 14, 2008, 03:02:17 PM
....I thought Sci-Fi was a type of fantasy... but in the long run, I'm gonna say fantasy. Sci-Fi nerds in general seem to require proof for their fandoms, which in my eyes, makes it a little less fun sometimes.

El Mariachi or Zorro?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: llearch n'n'daCorna on August 14, 2008, 03:05:20 PM
El Mariachi. But then, I'm a sucker for lots of guns and explosions.

Everclear or Evanescence?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on August 14, 2008, 03:06:46 PM
I've never heard of El Mariachi, so I'll go with Zorro. Besides, the guy inspired the Batman... you do not get more awesome than that. Unless you're Batman.

Evanescence. I just like the name more, I guess.

Powered armor or cybernetic enhancements?

Really, it's because anything you can get with cyber enhance you can get with powered armor, and then some.

Fart out your nose, or sneeze out your butt?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: shadowterm on August 15, 2008, 02:00:44 AM
Sneezing out the butt is far more painful, but much less unpleasant in the long term (Show of hands, who farts more than sneezes? I know I do. Not to say I fart a lot, just that I hardly ever sneeze.)

Sunburn or poison oak rash (For arguments sake you have both for 1-2 week(s))

I've had sunburn for a week before. I learned that you should always reapply sunscreen every hour or so during swimming. Ruined my trip to Cancun. All things considered, poison oak rash: in the long run it's better for me.

Bloody nose or uncontrolled sneezing?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Bloody nose, because uncontrollable sneezing (I'm very allergic to smog and dust aerosols) usually makes me have a nosebleed on top of that.

So, let me pose the question again, correctly this time:

The Mad Cat BattleMech or the Atlas BattleMech?

(Incidentally, what were you referring to, Slowtini?)

Mat Cat Battlemech. I think. It's been so long since I've played MechAssault, great games though.

Real Robots or Super Robots?

Super Robots. Because the laws of physics or common sense does not apply to them, and you can't stop them by shooting at the legs.

Close combat or ranged combat?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on September 03, 2008, 07:44:46 AM
Ooh... ranged combat. You get to launch butt-loads of missiles or cannon blasts or some form of weaponry and blow crap up, and then you can turn around dramatically before they actually explode. Plus, nominally you can blow up MORE stuff with ranged battle.

In terms of how one controls one's giant robot, telepathic controls or feedback flight suit (like a Mobile Trace System)?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)

Telepathic controls all the way. Physical control of a mech would be too awkward, no matter what "G Gundam" tells you.

In terms of space combat, homing missiles or laser weapons?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Jairus on September 03, 2008, 07:53:05 AM
Homing missiles. Lock and fire, forget afterward. Laser/beam weapons need to be constantly targeted, and in a 3D environment that's a little harder.

For a melee weapon, vibration-based or heat-based?
Title: Re: This or That! (Why didn't anyone already do this!)
Post by: Ren Gaulen on September 03, 2008, 07:58:34 AM
Well, most of such melee weapons in my universe are vibration-based, so I'll choose them.

Me like rail gun. Heeheeheeheehee. Beam guns get all the attention, but there's just something awesome about a freaking magnetic cannon.

PHP, hands down.

At least it's debuggable, whereas JS requires that you use something else to debug it, which leads to having problems where the debug environment is not the same as the live environment...
