How can there be a build up when 70% of the atmosphere is nitrogen to start with?
Specific nitrogen compounds, rather than nitrogen molecules.

I shall also point out that urea(the compound commonly used in solid fertilizers) is created naturally in your kidneys to get rid of excess ammonia and gets released in your urine. So essentially these guys want you to stop peeing....ever....

true, an earth sized planet without a moon is uninhabitable, but thats mostly for developmental reasons of the moon skimming off excess atmosphere so as to not have the air crushing any living thing that could possibly emerge from the muck.
also, crashing the moon to the earth would probably screw up our existing atmosphere and probably reaaaaly fuck up our orbit

Our orbit around the sun? Shouldn't really change if you just have orbital decay between earth and moon, same center of gravity.

its all about inertia, the energy in a colliding moon would be enough to alter the trajectory in which the earth moves, much like if one were able to strike a baseball in flight with a pellet gun. this could speed up or slow down the orbit, change the spin we get on the axis, or angle it slightly away or towards the sun. to be honest, yes, it would be a relatively minute change, but 'minute' is putting it lightly when a 'slowdown' could be another two days added to the year or a 'towards the sun' would mean getting a mile or five closer to the sun every year, which is probably like .0000003% change in trajectory.
take absolutely forever to get there, but there would be enough changes on the way once we start getting more toasty and stuff. changing how we spin on the axis would be the easyest way to screw everything, seasons are delicate enough as it is

nonono, decaying orbit, earth moves towards the moon as well as the moon moving towards earth. earth moves less, because it has more mass.
....which reminds me of planned mining on the moon. The difference in mass between empty/full landings and takeoff would effect orbits not to mention moving the mass from one place to another.
Actually, for the Earth's orbit to decay enough to crash into the sun, it'd have to be a very sharp angle of deflection. Planets have a habit of stabilizing their orbits after a while, as has been found with the hot-Jupiters. Their orbital velocity increases as they close in to the star, thus eventually overcoming whatever caused the initial orbital decay. Not to mention, Earth's moon was probably formed after a collision from a Mars-sized body, and the orbit didn't decay from that either. If the large body struck the Earth at a perpendicular or near-perpendicular angle, that might knock it off its orbit quite a bit, but unless there was an immense field of dust to continue producing friction and preventing acceleration, it'd still reach an orbital equilibrium eventually.
So we strap boosters to the earth that fire into its coming orbit. No more orbital speed, straight to the sun.
