Title: Top 5 FREE games of all time
Post by: Jack McSlay on March 14, 2008, 09:32:23 PM
As a more useful variant of the Top 5 overall topic, I think we should make up a topic for games anyone can search around and play themselves. Here's mine

5 - One must fall 2097 (Fighting) http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/game/66
4 - Command & Conquer (Strategy) http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/freegames/CnCGold.zip.html
3 - Last Scenario (RPG) http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/LastScenario
2 - Super Tux (2d platformer) http://supertux.lethargik.org/wiki/Download/Installation
1 - Laxius Power (RPG) http://www.freewaregames.net/fwpro/game.asp?game=65

The entirety of Ben Croshaw (otherwise known as Yahtzee, that dude who got immensely popular doing his reviews), Chzo Mythos series - 5 Days A Stranger, 7 Days A Skeptic, Trilby's Notes, 6 Days A Sacrifice.

And to round it off to five, the pre-5DAS game Art of Theft.

Because they're all good.

Since i am terminally unimaginative, i will agree with Janus, cause those games kick so much arse, mine still hurts.

Oh wow, 5 Days a Stranger was also by Yahtzee?  I should have paid better attention.

OMF:2097.  Memories.  I helped beta test their sequal, which didn't turn out as well, for various reasons.

Also.  No mention of Soldat?  Thou shalt play Soldat (http://www.soldat.pl/)!

5. Javelin (Mine.  Actually it's not all that good, but I'm running out of ideas.)
4. Head over Heels (PC remake)
3. Jazz Jackrabbit (First episode was free - the rest of it didn't really add anything)
2. Dink Smallwood
1. Beneath A Steel Sky  (Rereleased as freeware)

I'm tempted to say 'U5: Lazarus' but that depends on Dungeon Siege unfortunately :(

I'm assuming abandonware counts too.

1. EV Nova (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/) (The demo is free, and so long as you can avoid the developer's ships, you can get through any of the storylines, as EV has always been)
2. NetHack (http://www.nethack.org)
3. Guilty (Innocent Until Caught 2) (http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=482)
4. Terminal Velocity (http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=1137)
5. Hexxagon (http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=4788)
