It seems like this day was just destined to shock Jyrras.

Whoa. :erk
Merlitz should meet this woman.
Granted, it's a woman-fae, but still.

Unexpected. But I have a feeling I'm gonna like this Fae. :)
Im feeling someone has no need for introductions
Oh no! A human! Run Jyrras! Run!
But more to the point, I like this fae. I wonder what other kinds of fae we'll meet.
Ahh she's the same color as Wildy

That's what the poll was for!

Now that is an interesting choice for a Fae. Like how the background's starting to look as well. Makes me think of Chicago or somewhat.

I believe that Jyrras has seen people with black fur but not people with black skin. And I presume that that is skin we are seeing.
This thread lacks sufficient speculation. So I'll add some...
Perhaps this means that the Fae realm (established to exist outside of Furrae) is actually some sorta bridge between Furrae and Earth, and that fairies and Fae and kitterwings or whatever are, in fact, all one and the same. And that that's where Merlitz's human came from/to in that arc (which I'm too lazy to link to right now :<).
Quote from: AnizInDisguise on September 16, 2007, 10:13:09 PM
Why not just show him a were in its human form?
Task 1: find a were. This is impossible, as they tend to conceal their race, and anyone you accuse can simply say "No, you loon, I'm a Being, just like you!" and refuse to transform. The only real sign is that they're powerful spellcasters, and a Being with enough time could do that.(I'm assuming Merlitz is a Being, not a Were, as if he could take human form himself, he wouldn't be so freaked out by them.)
Task 2: after you have found and confirmed said were, convince him to shift to his human form. Not bloody likely, as it would totally blow his low-key cover.

Animals with black noses have black skin. If the fur is a single unbroken color, then it's a good bet thier skin is entirely the color of thier nose. if there are any patches of different colors, the skin may be a different color as well under that patch.
Polar bears are black on the inside.(well, the skin under thier fur is black)
Tigers have stripy skin. :3
So, maybe it would be right to say Jyrras has never seen someone with so much
bare black skin before. Assuming, of course, that he doesn't know any black-colored amphibian furs.
Then again, I am hard put to recall which characters of Ambers, besides Jyrras himself, have black noses.
Seeing as it's a fanrtasy world, your milage may vary.
Interesting. Bear in mind that Jyrras constructed a human patch, and according to Amber you need DNA from the race you're making. He also knew exactly what the effects were likely to be. So I'm guessing she isn't the first human he's met. It was still a surprise though.

That or someone who has been helping him with other projects had the means to supply him with a DNA sample... :3
I can honestly say this is the first DMFA comic where I was genuinely shocked.
My first thought when I saw 'Mis. Fae' was "WHA!!!" and I had Jyrras's face in panels 2 and 4. My next words were, "where are they Chicago?" But this is not the first time Jyrras saw a Human (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_246.php) with Wings (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_247.php). Though That was Dan in disguise, though considering how accurate Jyrras was to depicting human (even though Dan looked more angelic than demonic) I say Dan was based on visual reference of the real thing.

Which may well mean Mab got the DNA from her since they seem to be friends. Now according to Merl in his little adventure way back, there were humans once but they died. I don't know if it's possible for Fae to interbreed with other races (obviously they would also need a spare soul to make a Fae) but given the long lives of the Fae, I'm starting to wonder whether we're seeing the results of such a thing from before the humans died out.
Wow didn't see that coming , But Nice job on the surprise :)
This twist pretty much hit me like a train wreck.
I really wanna know what a human's doing with the fae. Considering that fae choose when they're born and when they die, I'd venture to guess she's not the only fae human either, unless they can also select their form.
She also didn't seem to expect Jyrras to wonder about the human skin but rather the color.
So yes ... there is probably more humanoid fae than just her.

Yes, these thoughts are akin to my own. After all, the human that popped in from somewhere, and such an interdimensional portal would require tremendous power and the ability to violate the laws of physics: hence, the Fae! :3

Sorry, too much MMOs... the chat speak grows on you after awhile. Faethulhu... *snickers*
You can normally tell an animal's skin color by the color of their noses and pads. For myself, in animals and furries in general, skin color is not indicative of any type of human cultural connotation. Because Azlan has a particular skin color does not mean he is a part of a human cultural group, nor does it mean the person behind him is either. Azlan has varied his skin color between pinkish and black at least a few times. It just doesn't have the same meaning people attribute things to, at least I do not think so.
Oh my! I don't know what is more funny/shocking about Faethulhu: the fact that is a fae, that is wearing a dress or that is giving a thumb-up...

Was just counting how many characters have black noses and solid fur vs. pink noses and/or striped or speckled fur. I wasn't trying to draw any parallels, just point out that there are more black-nosed DMFA characters than just Jyyras.
Personally, my fursona, if you could call it that, has a black nose, as well. I'm currently indecisive over whether his coat is auburn, or slate gray, though. In contrast, I bear a striking resemblance to Raist VII, from King's Blood(my avatar), which is why I adopted him as an identity.

Now, my dog had a black nose, but the skin on her belly was most definitely pink.
Most Canines are splotchy skinned, pink and patches of gray/black. It's a result of our selective breeding, their ancestors are generally mono-toned in skin coloration.

Doubtful, as Weres are an entirely different race from Fae in the same way that Cubi are an entirely different race from Beings.
Remember, though, that Fae can alter reality around them like a dream, so while I suspect it's just a Fae who happens to be human, instead of fuzzy, it's also possible that she's a "normal" fuzzy Fae who decided to look human.

Erm. According to the Demo 101:
QuoteAverage life span: unknown... a really long time
QuoteDespite being one of the oldest races, the Fae tend to be very good at keeping what they know a secret.
Quote
Notable Figure (Albanion): Age unknown, Albanion is one of the few Fae who seems to play an active part in the world of Furrae. A spokesperson for Peace, he has been one of the more active voices in trying to build bridges between the Creature and Beings race and it is likely due to him that the Beings/Creature Council hasn't fallen apart yet. It is unknown if this is simply him playing a role, as there is a ancient tablet describing an Albanion way back in ancient times who caused the destruction of an entire race of Mythos over who invented the yo-yo...

Although beings and creatures have specific races, certain creatures have their "sub-race" based on a being type. Examples: Kria: Demon/mare. Lorenda: Demon/cow (I'm hesitant to say she has mare genes seeing that we haven't seen any mare-like traits on her). Daniel, Abel, Aaryanna: Cubi/feline. Mab: Fae/feline. Azlan, Neni: Fae/fox.
Therefore our new character is Fae/human. Case closed.

Nup, quite a few != all, though it is possible. It still doesn't explain how a dragon would've come under the care of Fa'lina, especially with the tensions with the Cyra clan (or something). I'm just suggesting that the reason is because he is also a cubi.
Maybe Fa'lina came across Pyroduck as an abandoned infant. She does have a soft spot for kids, apparently. Perhaps Pyroduck had been one brought in by Destania for use as a class demonstration. (Destania doesn't get along well with dragons.)

this is why I specifically avoided making a statement that ALL black nosed animals are black skinned.
Now, if you were to shave your dog (do NOT shave your pets, anyone reading this!) you would most likely find that the black of the nose extends over a larger portion of her body than what is visible normally.
I've always found it funny when a cartoon animal, shaved, is always pink under thier fur, and a nice fleshy shade of it at that, while thier noses retain whatever coloration it previously had(often with a clear demark where the fur prevuiously ended)
Though, in Sylvester's case, I suppose he may just have a very bad sunburn...

Nice one, llearch.
Now you just need to hope that Charline doesn't have an appetite for poorly-stealthed cardboard boxes...
Blarghlargh... when my computer crashed I lost all my bookmark information and web history, so it took me a while to find myself back here. @__@
What is this poll people speak of?
And I wonder if there'll be any shiny, rubbery fae... :3 A genie can always dream!

Amber ran a poll for "black" or "white", for a couple of days. It's in the Abandoned Mine (http://clockworkmansion.com/forum/index.php?topic=3334.0) now. No further details were provided, but I believe "Black" won. Just.
The result would appear to be the Fae in Monday's strip.

She also said that if there was a draw, the character would die. Quite how she'd pull that off with a Fae, I know not...
Ahhhh, so I see...
Also, the references to Chicago confused me for a moment, since Chicago is where I go to attend Anime Central, but Anthrocon is in Pittsburgh. So for a few minutes I got my cons mixed up. XD

*pokes Mischa* Ya know, if you'd just searched for 'Dan and Mabs', it woulda been right at the top of the search, then there's this nifty little word at the top of the comic page that says 'Forums', and if you click on that, violla! You end up here! *Charles is master of teh Internets!* :P

I make a lovely fire. But small? Nah. Nothing like a roaring fire to warm the cockles of your heart on a cold winters evening.
... and since this isn't a cold winters evening (at least on this side of the ball), my cockles are toasty already, and you can't start a large enough fire with that anyway, I think we'll pass.
I appreciate the offer, though.

If you trundle over to the preview screen, you can edit the title.
It's possible you accidentally selected something, and typed half of "quite" into the subject area?
I would add to the owner's profits by buying a beer and a shot. :bar :)

Aha! now begins the question...are there any humans belonging to other races, even if humans are rare?
... I don't think that question means quite what you think it means. Would you like to rephrase? Humans are, by definition, not part of -any- other races. Not even Weres, which -look- human on one of their guises, are human.
It's like asking "Are there any tomatoes that are apples, even if tomatoes are rare?" ;-]
He meant black/white/etc. race, not dog/cat/goldfish race (which I always call species, to avoid confusion).
So, to continue the fruit metaphor, if apples were really rare, would there still be both green and red apples?

*thinks*
Oh. Oh, finally it starts to make some sense.
It's still wrong, though, because there aren't any humans anyway. What -that- is is a Fae, not a Human. If there are other Fae that -look- human, then yes, they might be Caucasian, or Eurasian, or Polynesian, or any of the other variants. Given the number of Fae, that's possible. I wouldn't want to bet any money on it, though, since for all we know, this is a canine in disguise...

Possibly. It depends. Were there red and green apples -before- they became rare, and, if so, what caused them to become rare, and did it have a selection bias towards red or green? If so, chances are there might not be one or the other.

Lions' noses start out pink and gradually change to black as they age. It's a good measure of relative age you can get just by looking at them. :3
So Charline morphs/dyes her nose then?
Charline is immortal! She NEVER ages! :U
By definition, everybody ages unless they are dead. Some people don't appear to age. ( I would mention The Portrait of Dick Clark (based on the The Portrait of Dorian Gray), but I'm not sure the readers would get the reference. On the other hand, I just mentioned in discussing whether I would mention it.
On the other hand Charline could destroy all references to her age and deal harshly with anyone who mentions it.

Amber also mentioned that she wasn't going to say what the poll was for until after the poll was over. So that means that Amber didn't have to let it refer to a Fae. It could have referred to a Warp-ACL.

down if you did it right.
Out of curiosity, when did amber say that this fae's appearance is the result of the poll?
I'm just thinking, possibly, taht this character could be a blue herring to throw us off of whatever else the poll could have been about.
Probably not, but I think the possibility does exist.

Doing what you've been requested, on the other hand, I can see THAT being an offence. But just listening when someone asks you something? What is this, newthink doubleplus good?
Hm...
Well, if she hadn't hugged Dan back at that point, I guess she'd have another opportunity to hug a human (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_254.php) now. Funny how it sounds like that didn't come up before.
Yeah, just came across that while looking for that brief strip where Mab turned human. Trying to figure out exactly what nationality she was (or at least was approximating).
Edit: Durr, wrong topic.
Still makes sense in this context, I guess.
