Title: DMFA Readers Map
Post by: RobbieThe1st on May 23, 2007, 01:39:17 AM
Well, I recently found the DMFA Frappr map (http://www.frappr.com/dmfareaders/map), and, when I checked for a post about it, the topic was locked, so I decided to make a new topic for you all to discuss this map on. It looks like some of the newer members aren't there, so yea... add yourself!

Those things dont like me. I live in Wisconsin right now, southeastern Wisconsin.

the following quote was actually from my wife

QuoteWe live in the magical land of cheese. or was it the land of magical cheese? I forget, haven't found any magic or magical cheese but we keep looking.

Nothing unusual about that.

It takes the IP address you're requesting from, and reverses that to a geographical location. Dead easy, really.

... note that its guess for where -I- am is off by ~200 miles... Okay, picky picky. 190 something.

Added to the map. Huh, looks like I'm the only person who's been added to the map in Florida. That is oddly disappointing, but wow, lookit all the people.

You know, this makes me think that maybe, in the long run, it wouldn't be wiser to make our own map for CMF, that we controlled... and was easier to load...

Those load times are a bitch...

Well, it would certainly make invading your fans homes and hypnotizing them into worshipping your work much easier. Otherwise you'd have to keep up the quality, and who wants to do that? Hypnotism. It's much more relaxing. :3

Let me draw up a map appropriate for CMF, and then, if someone wants to make the effort of making the info into a concises and easy to organize list (like an excell spread sheet of data), I can make the map useful.

Lord knows, now that I've mentioned it, someone like llearch is probably going to make the list.

you mean like GPS coordinates(to within an arc minute at best accuracy to protect anonmity), user name, and fan of DMFA, fan of CVRPG?

--edit--

the map places me by IP about 10 miles from where I actually am... probably the local office or switch box for my ISP

WHen I first got onto the map, it was off by 60-90 or so miles (I forget how far away Bostin is from me). Now I am added and in my proper place west of Bostin!

Or Boston, even.  ;)

It'd be interesting if anyone in the Boston area would be interested in meeting up there. (The main disadvantage would be that it would involve driving in Boston. Which is very very very very bad.)
