Heh.  Kria's sticking her tongue out.

Also--is that rickshaw being driven by livestock or a sentient being?

Right. You have neither style nor class. That's not a crime, but it is really recommended. So there will be no lawsuit, but don't expect to hold on to your dignity. :3

Anyway, little Kria's consternation confounds me completely.

I see jewelery, my vote is sentient being.

Also, since there's been no evidence to suggest that Lorenda owns her own vehicle, there would have to be a driver somewhere if the gryphon was livestock.

Unless, of course, that pendant is actually a control pendant that uses magic (or a sufficiently advanced science) to control the gryphon and make him/her perform in the desired manner.

I think they might be running the service, as many shaw runners in our city own their cart and make quite a bundle from tourists. plus the griffin looked quite happy

I guess it's just that my country had a rather nasty bit of relatively recent history using people as forced labor.  It's hard for me to see sentient creatures as beasts of burden.  But when the beasts of burden are also sentient...ooh, I think I need a lie down.

Then she just might get her things out from storage, and go on a short term rampage, maybe ?

Redundancy HO!

In this case, it would be like saying you have a hard time seeing taxi drivers being exploited because they drive people from one place to another.  While there is a physical difference in that the gryphon actually is doing the labor of the movement, for most Gryphon B types it isn't an issue.  You can be assured that the gryphons are getting paid for their services, and that the gryphons who are doing the shaws are proud of their jobs. (Odds are the cart was passed down from generations)

No, in this case if you want to get a Griff talking about being exploited, you just mention the modern vehicles and planes that have been starting to crop up due to technology and nudging in on their jobs...

In other words, they're rickshaws drivers in their own right.  From what media and entertainment has led people to believe, it's origins and popularity as a mode of transport would be in East Asia.

Don't make me get into a multipage discussion of the imperfect copulative nature of the English verb of being. (I'll do it!  I once started a flame war about the subjunctive mood!)  Suffice it to say that when all beasts of burden are sentient, it doesn't mean that all sentient beings are beasts of burden.

Well, for me, it's the fact that I have two perfectly good legs.  Why can't I use those?  Do I need someone to chew my food for me, too?

(Sorry, I guess this is just a personal pet peeve; it doesn't seem to bother anyone else.  It may be a side affect of joining the Libertarian Party.)

Anyways, that's not what I came back for.  I came back because I noticed that we didn't see Lorenda talking to Bernadette.  Yet Lorenda got a devilish idea from hearing Bernadette talking about how her date cheated on her.

That couldn't mean that Lorenda is planning to make it look like she's...

Actually there are quite a few beasts of burden that aren't sentient.  Its just the gryphons have a pretty good handle on the transportation industry. :3

QuoteWell, for me, it's the fact that I have two perfectly good legs.  Why can't I use those?  Do I need someone to chew my food for me, too?

You could note Kria chose to travel home herself, so you might not be too alone in your assessment.  However, Gryphons have flight routes, go a lot faster, have no worry of giant gryphon attacks, and a few have teleporting skills.  There are a lot of reasonable reasons someone might prefer hiring transport.  The real question would be where is Lorenda at if she is needing a gryphon-shaw to get home since before most DMFA characters have always walked to their locations.

That, and gryphons are also used for transport in Furrae, the game DMFA is based off.

And how can you cheat on someone you're not even dating?  All that will do is get you kicked out faster, hurt someone's feelings perhaps all the more, and simply being someone you don't want to be...your mom.

So they're flying/teleporting rickshaws?  Nevermind then.  I might use one myself.

Also, I might be wrong, but Jyrras seemed to be within walking distance of Lost Lake.  I think he's been there three days in a row.  So that means that this mall is far off.  Makes sense.  It doesn't look like the mall from the middle of Chapter 19 and you don't put two major malls within walking distance of each other.

Quote from: kaskar on April 16, 2007, 01:53:07 AMYou mean there that Lorenda's going to make a demonic plan, not a devilish plan

So I guess it can't be a diabolical plan, either.

Well, she could properly cheat on him if she took him out.  Or just bring someone over and start locking lips (make that someone Dan or Abel for maximum trauma).  ``Oh, er.  I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner.''  It's a bit of an easier let-down if you know that it was never possible in the first place.

Of course, that wouldn't take after Lorenda's mom; that would take after her dad.  I suppose that would be a bad thing.

You are correct, sir.

Of course, WoW gryphons are not in the same league as DMFA/Furrae gryphons.

Gryphons have been used as mounts, sentient or not, in many fantasy genre, along with hypogryphs, dragons, wyverns, giant water ticks, and so on.  In some fantasy settings, the sentient ones will work as beasts of burden in the same way that people will be hired to perform menial tasks such as loading and unloading ships, or they will even own and operate thier own transport services(notably, in the Spellsinger series by Alan Dean Foster, equines and bovines are not bipedal, but are sentient).

Ever read the "Iron Dragons Daughter"?

Way to much sex in it for my tastes but every vehical or means of transport is sentiant.  Horses and dragons are built on assembly lines as sentent mechanical ceatures.  Hell at one point they described an arial chase between dragons (which are alot like jet fighters with internal cockpits and the like)  one dragon's radar could sens the other loading a missle it could even sense the missles excitment over being fired.

So in that one not only are the beasts of burden sentiant but some of the projectiles are too

Thinking about it more... there's a few other possibilities as well.

One is she's freaking out the wings, but not because they're small, but for a different reason - they raise the question of why she -doesn't- have wings, and doesn't want her morphing amulet to be revealed. Jyrras finding out he's been beaten to the market on the patches might raise several awkward questions.

The other is that she (off screen) found out about Abel and is freaking out for that reason, which just occured to me. However, I'm not certain Lorenda knows about Abel, let alone Kria.

  :erk ???

I will say that Kria is a better mother than most.. Most mothers would freakout in front of their children even if they can help it.  Mine would...yet back to the comic.

Well, the last few posts are going into left field.. way into Left field...

This possible effective Kria's spy mission is a little low on the list, as Lorenda having small wings.  Remember Kria told Lorenda, that If she got wings.  they would be Fully grown.  These short wings may point to something worst...which we, the readers, can only guess.  Maybe it's the impossibility of a Half demon with "half" wings, or prophecy about one coming along...Doom, destruction, Angel and Demon living together.  Mass panic...

I must say Kira is keeping a cool head better than many would even try.
Her daughtor is in a bit of a crisis, with a guy that Mom finds attractive (really scarry thought), who also her daughtor has a great respect for and Mom has been ordred to watch.

I must say Jyrras is in a real pickle that he doesn't know about.

In which case Jy would then have issues with Dan/Abel. Daniel already knows about Jy's feelings for Lorenda, so it wouldn't really be quite right for them to get together. Or, if they were already together, so fact that Daniel didn't tell him would be bad too, (so it's not an excuse) which all equals bad. When it comes to Abel, that's a definite no-no because Abel was the first to find-out. Plus, I just can't see that happening. Too many emotional barriers and such.

I think lorenda said "winger" and it would be bad for lorenda as in thinking that jy-huy is just making up the excuse "oh yeah im gay" because he hates wings and because lorenda has them he dosent like her anymore...
One word,
Dan.
How would you explain this? Is it just because he was his first friend/saviour or something?
No... this would just be Lorenda misconstruing the situation. Or more likely, just be thinking he's trying to change the subject of what he told her to avoid confrontation and never actually believe him.

Okay I miss something?   AT last look,  Ah:

Abel knows about JyJy's crush on Dan and  on Lorenda, but he don't know that he is JyJy's new love.
Dan knows about JyJy's crush on him and Abel, but he don't know about JyJy's crush on Lorenda..Dan may have thought so before, now.
Lorenda knows about JyJy's crush on her. or guess it, but she doesn't know his gay interests in Dan or Abel.

I'd guess that they'd have some sort of comb fot it, a different one for each kind of feather. (Primaries, secondaries, coverts etc.)Something like brushing your hair I'd guess..

Theres probably some sort of shampoo for feathers out there as well.

In any case it boils down to Jy-Jy having that other heart to heart talk to Lorenda to settle this and his feelings for her and revealing his feelings for the cute butted Abel.

And finally trying to convice Lorenda with her wing problem with a patch and asking her to stay at his place or something else to make those wing grow.

Or we could do the POLKA!!!!!!!! :boogie. >:3

I thought with the Wildly issue that she has a thing for Dan henceforth the branding on his backside.

Abel has nothing to say because Jy-Jy has not voiced his feelings towards him as of yet.

Let things play out to see what happens next.

Quote from: Titanium Dragon on April 16, 2007, 09:06:41 AMOne is she's freaking out the wings, but not because they're small, but for a different reason - they raise the question of why she -doesn't- have wings, and doesn't want her morphing amulet to be revealed. Jyrras finding out he's been beaten to the market on the patches might raise several awkward questions.

Unlikely.  Jyrras probably knows about the amulet.  When he explained the whole thing to Lorenda, she probably said something about her mother having an amulet that did the same sort of thing.

Abel's story shows that morphing amulets were fairly common knowledge over 300 years ago. Serves to assume they weren't forgotten.

As for that cart, they seem to be standard fair. You can see one in the background of http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_356.php , not to mention a lovely sign for them.

It being Zinvith, the demon city, and Hennya being specifically a student of magical artifacts (http://missmab.com/Comics/Abel_77.php), I don't think it's at all safe to assume that they are common knowledge.  It's possible that such amulets are a fairly specialized knowledge, or even a forgotten discipline, though that's unlikley, since the other creatures in Hennya's classes(and Hennya herself) could be very long lived.

Kria has had her morphing aumlet for all the strips so far . She was shown to have one as a teacher in her 20's when Abel was in 1 st grade having magic lessons . Therefore, I presume the aumlet she wears is one and the same as she wears today, and in her clothing while teaching ?

Then if you are saying that the same amulet that Kria gave to Abel to hide those head wings is in fact the same amulet as of right now.

Then how did Kria got it back from Abel?

...see the middle-left frame, specifically "I'll come by later and we can talk".  She has the amulet back now, QED.

Exactly how Cid and May are going to react when she enters the house in full Demon form could be interesting as well.

Well, it could be a local only transport...high speed ground.

but one wonders if the gryphons can fly with a cart trailing behind them... mmm it would depending on the amount of lift and/or magic the gryphons got.  and how light the cart is made with material plus magic.

Sounds a bit too much like 'Freak Out' by the Mothers.
For my next one I'm probably going to stick with the working title which is 'Pancake Ferret' (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_660.php).

Back before they moved to Zinvth May tells Cid that he himself said "Not all demons are evil" and they should be comfortable with ones with wings, as other teachers from school seem to have had them (http://missmab.com/Comics/Abel_22.php). The only difference Kria seems to have is the presence of wings, not that big a change, and I'm sure they knew she was a demon already if not by the fact she was a teacher in the school, perhaps by her name (Moira Gianna's question to Lorenda - "Soulstealer eh? That from the demon class?). I don't expect Kria to come busting in either, she'll probably knock politely.

The way I understand you, you're thinking that since Kria has a charm that magically hides her wings, that implies a connection to or at least knowledge of SAIA. I'm kinda thinking that charm is sorta standard as a means of creature disguise.

what  ???  May and Cid are 400 years dead by now.  This is the DMFA thread... I think?

I think your last post should be in Abel's story thread, Kaskar

... And yes the amulet can be 400 years old and Kria seem to say that Abel should have it to get home, she may have taken it, back.  or Brought a new one...  and also :shapeshifters  why would he need one.?

The side effects of the amulet's magic, that a young Kria blew off, are now surfacing on Lorenda.  Remember Cid said something about magic exposure effecting adventurers and their offspring, so magic could also effect Creatures' offspring, too.  It just takes longer.  Oh boy, Let's hope creature mages have come up with a cure in the last 400 years... when again maybe not.

Except... He's NOT talking about the current comic... so your explanations of everything don't really mean anything because Abel barely knows what a cubi is at that point.. Also, Cid didn't say magic exposure affects people and their kids, he just said "weird things happen". Even if it has a grain of truth, most likely he was BSing to try and settle things down anyway. Remember that the comic joke said it was that BRAND, likely meaning there was a good chance of there being another kind, (maybe more expensive? is Kria cheap?) not so prone to bad side effects.
