Holy moly, I had given up hope on ever finding a place that makes the full size versions of swords i want, but I found it.
http://www.kingofswords.com/ (http://www.kingofswords.com/)
They have everything :eager
Including 9ft long Sephiroth sword and 6ft long Cloud sword. I am in sword bliss right now and not even Fighter's bliss can compare to it.
BTW, heres the Sephy sword: http://www.kingofswords.com/product_info.php/products_id/12410 (http://www.kingofswords.com/product_info.php/products_id/12410)
Hey Amber, I know you liked FF7, guess what. They have Materia too's.
Sweet muffins above, I'm in love.
Why on Earth would you want a 9 foot sword? :erk
I think the better question is why wouldnt i? This site is like an R-Rated candy for my braincells.
I don't like any of the game recreations
Just look:
http://www.kingofswords.com/product_info.php/cPath/474_480/products_id/12417
The pic from the game is right behind it. The only thing 100% right about it is the fact that it's a sword.
While on the subject of Dante:

Why the hell is he in the middle of this Soul Calibur image?
The blade is better on this one (it actually resembles the Soul Calibur) but the hilt, even forgiving the exclusion of the unrealistic spiral, is a bit lacking.
Ok, so they're not all gems, but they're doing a better job then some game replica sellers ive seen >.>
They didn't get link's shield right, I don't think :<
they be ultimately cool, but i prefer me polearms :3

I can top that. And it's not even a replica.
Wawel Castle in Poland has a giant sword that's well over six feet; I'm not 100% sure of how long it is, but the blade is gilded and at least four inches wide.
And then they have gunblades. Real gunblades, designed to be used in war.

I *think* it's the sword that Innocent XI gave to Jan III Sobieski. When I saw it, I think it was taller than I was, and that was at an angle. It was obviously only for display or decoration, but man, it was huge.
Oh, and the gunblades are real gunblades, too. They're shortswords with a derringer-sized flintlock attached.

I wonder if a nine-foot long sword is really practical, though. Seems too heavy and awkward to wield... but then again, it's not like RPG monsters are parading around in the streets for us to use them on. :p Awesome website, by the way... going to spend the rest of the night searching through it.

There's a difference between being able to wield one and being able to fight with one effectively. Watch the black knight scene from The Holy Grail. Arthur is basically flinging that sword around with no control. He'd be more graceful with a sledge. If you sent me in there with a dirk and no training, I'd probably be more likely to come out as the victor.

True, but once you get the ability to swing a sword, learning to use it isn't so hard. However, the -quickness- of how you can swing it is different..

50 lbs isn't as heavy as you think. Ever use a barbell like a bo-staff? Takes getting used to, granted, but it grows on ya.

The King of Swords website has the Oblivion Keyblade.
Also, these are just show pieces. Most swords made today, despite what is advertised are made for show, not practical use. And even if they were, we live in the modern age. Where are you seriously going to use a sword for its intended use?
Quote"full size"? They make the Soul reaver 36". It's a bloody 6 foot flamberge in the game. Fullsize my ass.

I...never said that. If you want to buy it because it looks awesome, that's fine by me. I tend to only buy things that I can rationalize as functional in some way.

The main issue, to my mind, would be stopping the sword from swinging you. When you're in a swordfight, you need to be able to respond to your opponent quickly, and if you can't, you'd be better off with a sword with less mass/moment of inertia.
Quote from: Teroniss on February 13, 2007, 06:32:38 PMAlso, these are just show pieces. Most swords made today, despite what is advertised are made for show, not practical use. And even if they were, we live in the modern age. Where are you seriously going to use a sword for its intended use?
Samurai Delicatessen?
You use the inertia to keep you moving. :3 Point is, it -can- be done. Heh.
It can be done. Trust me. *goes off to practice*
As for the swords themselves... I really don't like replicas. If I was going to buy a new one or something, I would try and look up some industrial firm or some smaller private one. It's more the steel that you're after. Also, I much prefer single-piece swords, where the hilt and the blade are both made of the same piece of metal, and the hilt is basically just a long handle of it wrapped with cloth.

Speedlearn (http://jperryl.ecs.fullerton.edu/313/SpeedLearn.html)?
Anyways, the point is that with training, you can almost certainly be good at wielding a bastard sword one handed. But without training, you'd be better off with something shorter/lighter/with less moment of inertia.
Who said you didn't need training? :3

You now know the punchline to this story, but I'll tell it anyway. In high school, one of my teachers told a story about how he was demonstrating the way to discover the center of gravity for an object.
He needed a long object, and he grabbed a cane from one of the students. The student protested, but he paid it no mind. In order to find the center of gravity, you need to support the object with two fingers, run the fingers together, and wherever they meet, that's the center of gravity.
This cane had an unusually high center of gravity, so the teacher tossed it up in the air to observe it. The cane promptly separated into the wooden bottom and the top...which was a sword.
He let the kid have it back after class, under the condition that he never bring it to school again.
A while later, the kid broke his leg and had to get around on crutches. When the teacher saw that, he picked it up and tried to figure out where he had hidden the .22.
Silly boy. He should have made sure the catch on it didn't let go unless you actually want it to.
Sprung-mounted ones are much better - chances are you can do some damage with the cane bit, that way...

Llearch is more right. Two senators are elected from each state at large. Representatives are elected from individual districts. Plus, the representatives elect the Speaker of the House, third in line for the presidency, and probably about as close as we come to a prime minister (although she really doesn't have any power). Senators elect the president pro tem of the Senate, but he doesn't have any power at all.
I think I figured out what an MP was in my mid teens. Before then, I always wondered why they were reporting about these guys:

Quote from: Tapewolf on February 14, 2007, 01:57:12 PMA 1-for-1 match is probably not possible, but yeah - I clean forgot about Congress.
Well, you remembered about one-fifth of it. There are two parts of the US Congress--the House of Representatives (435 seats) and the Senate (100 seats). The Senate was designed to be modelled after the Roman Senate, where senators were elected for life. US senators serve for a fixed term, but are considered senators even after defeat/retirement, and retain some privileges like being able to return to the Senate floor (as non-voting members) under certain conditions.
The closest British analogue for the US Senate is probably the House of Lords.
