ah, but can she make people seem to see her point without her having to say anything, some sort of self-revelation.
also using puppets to mimic abel might (or might not) make abel see how he's acting.
or Fa'Lina knows where all of Abel's buttons are, and just knows where and how to push them. >:3

Considering that the largest spider I've ever seen is a boss in Twilight Princess, I would just love to see the little guys that make THAT goop. :erk
Gotta love Fa'Lina with her puppets. At least her way with dealing with whiny children doesn't involve giving them an Incy-bear. That of course could easily be mistaken for being possessed. :3
Once again, I feel sorry for Abel. Fa'Lina didn't give him all the information he needed, his hemophobia has been acting up a lot today, and now he has spider-goo in his hair, and marionettes to contend with! I wouldn't be surprised if he completely cracks within the next ep or two!
Ah, return of the puppets. XD Fa'Lina, why must you make me giggle so with your Abel-depreciating antics? Though gah. I've never, ever seen a spider make THAT much goo before in my entire life. Lost Lake must be a haven for mega-freakin'-enormous spideys or something.
This is a wee bit irrelevant, but did Amber make a slight adjustment to Abel's wardrobe? The puppet apparently has gloves, too, that match the boots. Then again, I'm analyzing the puppet too much when it's just around for comedic purposes.

But I don't think the hemophobia is triggered by the spider goo. Maybe because it's green? Or perhaps the 'icky spider goo' response is more powerful than the 'b-b-b-blood' response of his hemophobia.
Plus I doubt that this time the puppets will break him, who knows how long he dealt with them at SAIA.

Spider goop isn't blood, though. It's also internal organs, and the "blood" component isn't exactly haemoglobin related.
Spiders (and other like animals - centipedes, ants, etc) don't have a "circulatory" system, per se, but instead basically keep their organs in a "soup" of sorts. The soup mixture moves oxygen to the organs, and "breathes" through spiracules, or small holes in the skin. Now, this works fine on the micro scale, but not on the macro scale - this is why mammals use blood and shuffle it around using a pump, moving it from "spiracules" (ie, the lungs) to the organs (eg, brain, liver, etc) and muscles.
This is why spiders and ants have an upper limit on their body size - it's the amount of oxygen in the air that limits things. If you go back a few million years, in, IIRC, the early jurassic, the oxygen content was a bit higher, and you had, for example, a 2-foot wingspan dragonfly. (that's Meganeura (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meganeura), if you ask wikipedia)
Interestingly, that article mentions the same size-limiting feature, and also mentions the breathing system...

As for the hemophobia, it seems to be caused by the brain reacting to an injury. Since Abel isn't a spider, and he can't see the injury, it shouldn't cause a reaction.

Thanks for the info.
I just wonder if the Insectis race has a similar internal system to the one that you described. They are insects, after all.
"Magic" is the explanation for that one, I think :-)
I'd expect them to have a full blood and lungs system, being basically anthropoid in shape, but big enough to require a proper breathing system to get enough oxygen to the vital organs...
I'm prepared to be wrong - after all, we're talking a magical world. It could be just about anything - for example, they might have silly-putty as internal organs, with just as much reason behind it :-)

I don't know if spiders have a similar breathing system to insects but said system limits their size, still there is a beetle big enough to peel bananas.
I wonder if its like in the Discworld where massive animals appear in areas of high magic fields. In the webcomic 'wings of change' some animals need magic to survive, if they run out it damages them as starvation would us.

QuoteI'm sure this has been discussed before but where does magic come from in DMFA ? is it produced by creatures? is it naturally drawn in by them?

Sure... and I'm the fourth doctor. I tend to believe the universe has a finite amount of energy flowing, circulating within a closed system. The energy is harnessed by those who are able, shaped into what they desire and recycled back into the flow. Within this process is a certain minute amount of energy degradation that will eventually lead to a negative energy balance.
...I'll just let the logic of how a closed system can lose energy make your statement vanish in a puff of logic...

Actually, Dan appears to be losing the ability to sleep before he went to SAIA (e.g. "My Wings Just Made Me Coffee!") Aary didn't need it much either while she was around. Remember her sitting on the windowsill while Merlitz slept?
As for SAIA, that's actually one of the things I don't really understand. Where does the energy come from?
Say we have Dan and Abel living in the middle of the desert through some strange quirk of fate. What does Abel feed on? If he feeds on Dan's emotions, where does Dan get the energy to radiate them from?
They can't both feed on each other, because ultimately you need an energy input, especially if you go around casting spells all over the place as the students will during their studies.
Beings I can accept, but SAIA doesn't seem to have all that many of them (Only 5% need to eat and that probably includes other guest Creatures like the aquatic Mythos).
It's not just a matter of scientific correctness, either. If you can get energy from nothing, it breaks all sorts of character drives and plot details. :<
One possibility is that the energy IS being recirculated among the 'cubi but they have enough Beings in the Academy to replenish the supply as it is used up by spells and natural wastage.

Because it's in Abel's room, and he's gone to the trouble of getting green fitted sheets for it. (See also #609 - note the green spots on the wall... consistency FTW)
Dan's room is blue. Now I can see him wanting something to lie on (I often lie on bed when I'm reading) but a sofa takes up less space, as I say. If I suddenly lost the need to sleep tomorrow, I certainly wouldn't go to the effort of taking the bed with me when I move >:3

You're right about that (Abel repainted prior to 601, but Dan's room is blue in 689), but there are still the Basement Rats. They do have a habit of buying things for the basement (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_319.php).
As for getting green fitted sheets, do you really think that Abel would keep the sheets if they clashed? Also, do note that green was already a color in the basement, and getting a sofa reupholstered is going to be difficult, even for an incubus.

Hell, no. In #600 he's doing the sheets for Dan, and that's kind of the point. He's changed the sheets on the bed so they
don't clash, but it would have been more practical for him to just move it into one of the other basement rooms or possibly some kind of hyperrealm if they've used them all up by now.
Yet for some reason he's kept it, and I'm curious as to why.
QuoteAlso, do note that green was already a color in the basement, and getting a sofa reupholstered is going to be difficult, even for an incubus.
On the other hand, since he's gone for green and the rats aren't even supposed to be down there, nicking the sofa would have been an ideal match >:3
Of course one reason might be that keeping the bed there is a visual cue so you know that we're in his bedroom...

New theory!
It's Dee and Ed's bed. After Ed goes missing, and Dee goes to find him, Alexsi maintains their room for a while, but eventually comes to the realization that they're probably not coming back anytime soon, so she might as well use the room for boarders. She has been known to do this.
But what to do about the bed? Would you want some strangers sleeping in your parents' bed? But if she sells it, she has to buy a new one when they come back, so she just stores it downstairs.
And it's much easier to keep a bed than to move it out. Plus, as you say, it's a place to recline while reading/studying/whatever when the basement rats are hogging the couch. And Alexsi probably told Abel that if he moved the bed, Bad Things would happen to him.

I think she's still got it for herself. See 378 - it's got the Cyra Clan logo in it, so it's probably an heirloom of Destania's. Why
she has a bed is kind of repeating the same question, although I'm sure it proved useful in siring Dan. We won't go there.

Unless he's got the last room in the basement, that would be a good reason for Alexsi not to have given him the room at all.
Somehow I'm reminded of the Bed song in
Hair, which lists about two dozen uses for beds which don't include sleeping. I'd post the lyrics but being very much a Summer-of-Love thing it probably breaks PG. (One of the other songs in the musical definitely does - even giving the title would :erk)

Apart from the very basic snag that 'cubi don't need to sleep, hence my original question >:3
But Tw does the rules apply when Falina left SAIA her ability to predict the future is fading? That goes for the same of Abel losing the magic ability to stay up and not sleep I think the whole SAIA Academy is one magic booster for all cubi if they stay on the grounds. That's what I have got from what all of you saying about this.
Quote from: Tapewolf on January 30, 2007, 11:21:31 AMI think she's still got it for herself. See 378 - it's got the Cyra Clan logo in it, so it's probably an heirloom of Destania's. Why she has a bed is kind of repeating the same question, although I'm sure it proved useful in siring Dan.
Well, what about when she was recuperating from the attack? I'll bet that Edward used a bed, too. I'll also bet that Edward said at some point, ``Come to bed, you darned fool! I can't sleep with you pacing around like that!''
This then brings up the question of what to do with Alexsi's bed. Maybe that's the one downstairs.
Quote from: Tapewolf on January 30, 2007, 11:21:31 AMUnless he's got the last room in the basement, that would be a good reason for Alexsi not to have given him the room at all.
I had been running on the assumption that there was just one big room down there, but there appear to be three: Dan's room, Abel's room and a hall/foyer. Since there are large cracks in the wall and sizable spiders and rats down there, I suspect that the only things furnished down there are rooms where furniture has migrated for storage. I'll bet it's just the two rooms, the hall/foyer, and maybe a room for the boiler. Alexsi would not put Abel anywhere near the boiler.

Amber described it as a series of unused rooms which are mostly used for storage but can be brought into full use if need be. If I can find the post, it would be handy for the Lost Lake Inn article on the wiki.

Oh, and the camel spider? http://www.buckstix.com/images/spidy.jpg :-)
Not img'd, because I care.
A bit.
A very little bit. :-)

Abel had a bed at SAIA. Why shouldn't he have one at Lost Lake. (Whatever he might use it for.)

Two reasons:
1) Hiding under the covers from monsters
2) Making pillow forts!
That aren't reasons to not have a bed. :mowtongue :rolleyes
Says you. :januscat
I don't think you haven't got the negations mixed up. :P
Yeah? Well jokes on you. I just don't think. :trooper
I got it!
A) There would be a high focus of energys from under the floorboards of my room!!
B) Fa'Lina has a underground sugar mine!
C) Something is makign alot racket down there...Most likey a Jai alai court
Or
1. My school is part of SAIA academy and we are ready to attack the Dragons
2. My cookie jar has unlimited amount of magic I give it away at no cost to you.
3. The puppets are planning to overthrow the government.
How about this:
Just lock the door and put a spell on it to keep her out.
Then cast a spell to get rid of the spiders.
