Title: Stupid DS question
Post by: Destina Faroda on October 24, 2005, 11:21:15 AM
I haven't been paying attention to news like I should have, so it pased me by that Nintendo is releasing the Wireless USB adapter on-line only, and since I don't order on-line, I'm not getting one.  However, I already have a wired router.  Should I just get a wireless router or should I find a WiFi spot and just forget about making any addtional purchases (other than the on-line compatible games)?

Be like the rest of the normal people and buy online.  :P

All kidding (not) aside, you could buy a compatible Wireless Router.  I believe the Linksys line of routers will be compatible with DSNet.  You can find out what it compatible with what by going to the nintendo website (mynintendo.com I think does it too) and checking for compatible Routers.

It's just easier for people who already have a wired router to get the little USB thingie, though.  Cheaper too, I'd imagine.

I'm not alone in refusing to buy on-line.  A lot of people still don't, namely the "paranoid" parents of teenagers who have bought the DS for their kids.  You might laugh but this is going to cost Nintendo big.

Then again, I'd need to practice off-line first of Mario Kart DS anyay.

I actually doubt that. Most people buy online. It's generally secure. Or, at least as secure as most anything else is in this world.

I'm assuming, Destina, that you aren't a "paranoid parent". Paranoid, maybe, but not a parent. It's a shame, because places like Amazon are great for shopping, especially around Christmas-time.

That's cheating. It's not christmas if you don't go out and find something, literally.

That's why I keep Amazon as a last resort.

Just using it as an example of a good place to do safe online shopping.

It's generally safe to trust big companies that sell stuff online, such as amazon and barnes&noble, ebgames and gamestop, toysrus and target, and target or sears.

They're not likely to rip you off, and it's VERY unlikely that their connections during an online transaction are unsafe such that some jagoff steals your identity.

I generally trust those sites, but if I go to some joeschmoo website, I'm not buying their stuff... especially if they don't have a secure server and authentication certificates and the like.

Destina's just Paranoid like that...

I have a feeling that paranoid just scratches the surface. o_O

Eh, well I can understand a little paranoia now and again when it comes to online. On the flip, even companies that you buy from personally, and not online, have racords of you on file, and those can get hacked just as easily as online ones. Doesn't stop the hackers to not go online...

Then again, Jorge, we're talking about you, who'll pay for a pack of gum with his credit card.

Well, I have an idea.  This board's secure, so you can give me your credit card numbers and addresses so I can make some transactions of my own.

I'm just kidding.  Don't call Johnny Law on me!

I've paid for little shit with a card too. 72 cents was the lowest I've ever done.

I prefer to write out checks ;)

Most places won't take a check for that little I've found.

Hey hey!  I get miles per every Dollar I spend with that Card.
It's in my best interests to use Credit in order to Fly.

Having said that, you're exaggerating.  I've never paid with Credit Card for gum in my life.  I do it for things like Movie Tickets, which at the cheapest, are $6.50.
