Yay, I just picked up my Wii a few minutes ago and am now in the process of plugging it in, let you know how everything is when I'm done.   :mowtongue

I couldn't get one. there were massive lineups over here.. despite the fact one of the stores had 60, they had managed to hand out tickets to the first 60 in line, BEFORE THE STORE EVEN OPENED. needless to say there's no wii anywhere, and people ARE picking up more than one with buddies and family members so they can get rich rather than actually play them.

wii are not amused.

Right, as of now it's already looking to be very good.  The downloadable game list is a bit short right now but should be expanding soon.  The control style does take a little getting used to though, especially trying to find the right height for the sensor.  Can't wait for more good tites to come out now, picked up Zelda(duh), Red Stee and Call of Duty 3.

Edit: Also Target had 60 units also, and 54 of them were accounted for before the store even opened.  Good thing I went early and some didn't show they also ran out of Zelda games.

the right would be "curse you US bastards" because I'm american and still need to wait for sometime in december for launch. at least Nintendo isn't like Sony, kicking the europe launch date to march and not launching here at all, not that I actually care about PS3 myself >:3

I think is actually very nice they kept the launch dates not so far from each other, so we won't have to envy the people who already had the chance to get one for too long

Pet peeve alert!

American is a perfectly accurate way of describing people living in the United States of America.  I can find no better way of doing so.  What do you want to call us, United States of Americans?  United Statesians (there are other United States in the world FYI)?  Should I demand you refer to yourself as a Federative Republic of Brazilian?  Furthermore you are not an American in any sense.  Brazil is located in SOUTH America, making you both a Brazilian and a South American, but not an American.  There is no ambiguity here unless you want to start arbitrarily combining continents or using archaic map systems.  But to do so would be pointless.  Americans live in the United States of America which is part of North America, Brazilians live in Brazil which is part of South America.  Everything works.

Unfortunately, I can't make Wii jokes or even say the name, because my dog would wet the carpet. And no, that is not a joke or exaggeration of any kind. I blame my own poor choice of words for commands...

Problem is your logic is fawed.  They would still be Americans, just not "American" Americans.  There are a couple countries in the Carribean, that may not be part of the US, but the are still counted as legal US citizens with all the benefits, but few, if any, of the drawbacks.

Well an update on it.  I've been having a lot of fun right now playing Twilight Princess, interesting how some of the story is already, get turned into the wolf form in less than 20-30 minutes depending on your play style.  They have a small list of games that you can donload from older systems, but not many that realy say "must have" right now though.  Need to buy points for them, 2000~$20 and they range from 500-1000 atm.  Only one I've seen that's tempting is Altered Beast.  Few other neat option built in like weather and news areas, later on you can browse the web it looks like.  Well, time to try out one of my other games now either Red Steel of Call of Duty 3.

'Estadounidenses' would translate to 'Unitedstatesians'. When people want to use a derogative term they use 'yanquis', which would translate to 'Yankees'. I don't use that term, though. I think it's stupid to put someone down because of their nationality.

But Damaris, I'm Argentinian, not Brazilian. I really don't know how they call you people in Brazil.

I live in the Northeastern USA, and I am not offended by the term Yankee.  It's just informal slang, generally pretty good natured in use, though I can certainly imagine contexts in which it is used in a derogatory fashion.  As far as offense is concerned, both the causing and taking therof, intent is far more important than the actual wording.

Other than the fact it connects to the internet, the current models aren't all that good, and there are updates you can download for the system?  None at all yet, just speculation since it's most likely gonna happen.  And am I really one of the only ones to get the system that reads the forums?

I've only been able to play with my Wii for 2 hours. Most of the time I was configuring the controls because they weren't very accurate. I ended up putting the sensor bar on top of the TV and now it works well. Now I am 30 miles away from my house and can only think of the Wii. Damn it, I waited 15 hours and good thing I did because all of the systems sold out to the people that were waiting before six in the morning.

I would say that emulation still wins; less because it's free, more because of the save-absolutely-anywhere aspect. That's very important to me... and the GameShark that's built into many emulators is very nice as well (zomg iCheat!). Any chance of the Wii doing that?

The Wii Sonic game is reportedly going to be reminiscent of a the past bonus stages. Only one path that you're automatically moving forward on, and you steer out of the way of obstacles and attack enemies.

Personally, I'd much rather play as Shadow or the psychic hedgehog than be stuck in a rail-shooter with no guns.

Probably a good plan; my friend who works at Blockbuster said the second wave of Wiis was put off until next March. However, the Blockbuster computer system is world-reknowned for suckiness and general inaccuracy, and it's rumored there may be 9 million more Wiis on store shelves by the end of this year.

And is "Wiis" really the plural form? It just doesn't look right.

Got one yesterday.  As a fairly regular bowler I found the included WiiSports bowling game pretty nifty.  It actually does seem to approximate bowling fairly well.  I did notice that my ball wasn't rolling quite like it really does, although it may have been my fault, e.g. not lined up to the TV all the time.  Still very possibly addictive; I have never been even remotely interested in a bowling game on the PC/console before.

The only game I got for it was Zelda, which I managed to play for a couple hours.  Aside from the very Gamecube-ish graphics, it did not disappoint, and the controller has been fun and easy to work with.  I did get hung up for a while trying to get (and use) that dang fishing pole though...

Damaris: apology accepted. You'd be surprised at the amount of people who have made that mistake.

About the games: my brother and I used to own many Sega consoles: GameGear, Master System, Mega Drive, Genesis, Nomad, Sega CD, Saturn and Dreamcast. The worst thing is that Mega Drive, Genesis and Nomad run exactly the same games, but my brother insisted on getting all 3 because their respective sizes and shapes were convenient under different circumstances. @_@  So the first Sonic game I played was Sonic The Hedgehog (1) for GameGear. Then we played most of the Sonic games for all those consoles, though I never got to see Sonic Adventure 2 because of family issues that presented themselves at the time my brother was playing it. :(

I never got any new generation consoles, but I did get a PS2 while I was in the USA this year, and my brother's getting all the juice out of it (Argentinian term, but I hope the meaning's clear enough).

My first console, however, was a Coleco Vision. I think it's still lying somewhere in the house.

Did you notice that a lot of games for the game gear were also released for the master system as pretty much the same thing? :3
Yes. Out of those I only got the Game Gear versions, if any. I didn't get many games for the Master System.

Finally got my hands on my brother's Wii. (yes, I know many jokes could be made from that, so just don't bother making them.)

I got to make a Mii that looks suspiciously like Michael Jackson in his Thriller video, and play some Twilight Princess. Gosh, I wish that little runt had told me how to attack as the wolf just a little bit sooner. Spent so long bashing my head against a crate with the Dash command before my bro just said to wiggle the remote.

This line has more joke potential anyway :3

Dood... Now, playing with one's own Wii has many disturbing jokes that can be applied. But playing with someone else's Wii... That's actually frightening. I won't go near that. And it almost seems like lawsuit territory...

Everyone keep your distance. This is going to hurt him a lot more than it does us! I hope.

Now, if I do that again, it should hurt just about as badly as your horrible pun.

You made a Michael Jackson Mii too?  XD That's hilarious!  When our roommate (who actually bought the Wii) made a Mii, it looked pretty damn disturbing, and then we realized that it looks too much like Michael Jackson, so we made a current-day Michael Jackson Mii.  It looks disturbingly just like him  :D

Also, I probably spent 45 minutes trying to figure out how to attack that damn crate, too.  It was sheer LUCK that I figured it out at all.  That's the biggest problem I have with Zelda games - figuring out what the hell to do next, and figuring out how the :censored I'm supposed to do it.

Well, I felt stupid getting up at 4 AM on the craziest shopping day of the year, but it payed off and I bought me a Wii (my friend [Draksaith] got one too). I've connected to the internet, made a Mii with a permanent  ~.~  expression, and really, really need to start playing Twilight Princess and Red Steel. Independent targeting dual-wielding guns/swords... finally! Although the wiimote aiming is a royal pain in the %#^@!

Too bad the web browser isn't available yet. I'm not sure I care too much about the News or Weather channels...

Also, just so you know, most shipments will be going to Toys R Us, if one is in the area. Supposedly we're the co-launchers with Nintendo.

Thank you thank you, Mr. Inside Man, sir! There just happens to be a Toys 'R Us rather nearby. :mwaha

Unfortunately I probably have to wait until next year as well, because I'll be getting my remaining $150 for Christmas and my birthday. Or who knows, maybe it'll be my birthday present. Hmm...

The worst thing is that Mega Drive, Genesis and Nomad run exactly the same games

Don't know what Nomad is but I can tell you that Megadrive and Genesis were actually the same console, they were just named differently according to region (Japan had Megadrive, US had Genesis).

now as for Master System and Game Gear...also same thing...why else do you think they play same games?

nomad was a portable genesis/megadrive. the master system and game gear I already mentioned were alike, but of course, the design is different. otherwise it seems to use the exact same sound and video hardware, all in a smaller package. Most master system emulators also emulate game gear, and vice versa. usually there are only minor differences between game versions...

Megadrive and Genesis play the same games but are not exactly the same. The Megadrive is wider, and doesn't fit on top of a Sega CD, which is why my brother decided to buy the Genesis.

Aaand this just in, apparently Nintendo ships roughly 200,000 more Wii units every week, and will continue to do so until at least the end of 2006. Now if only I could get my Christmas money early...

I recently read an articale about Wii related injuries.

It seems doctors are getting a rash of aching joints, sore backs, and pulled muscles.

they say Wii game injuries have little in common with carple tunnel and are starting to resemble sports, workout related injuries

I think I saw that before. The strap looks more like it was cut. Besides, if you don't have the brains to hold your remote in a way NOT as if you were barely conscious, you probably shouldn't be playing.
