Yay, I finally have an art topic of my own! I don't know what I will put in it yet, other than donation pictures and random stuff, but I already have one thing to post.
This is my October donation pic. Which means it contains everyone who made a donation during the month of October to help me go to AC. Many thanks to all 4 of you!
Hopefully, I'll be able to post a new one each month. (That will mean getting at least one donation each month, so yes, very hopefully).

That's the first thing I've drawn on the sketchbook Blade gave me. (Is Blade still around?) I found out it's not very scanner friendly (sorry about the shadows), so I'll draw on lose sheets of paper from now on and then I'll paste them on the sketchbok after scanning them. Which means that, if I get to go to AC, everyone else who goes will get to see the originals.
And now I have an index!

Agreed! I really like it, good art, Gabi! :3

Heheheh, we're all dirty hippies. X3 I like my pants. I think I need a pair like it. :o
Yay, Zina spotted the theme!
Thanks, everyone. :) With all this praise, it makes me want to draw more. Maybe I'll throw in something random before the month ends.
Groovy! :3
Thank you for the cool picture, Gabi!
(btw, what's Azlan doing there? *wonders*)
He's being Azlan. He's either putting something on your back, taking it out or just holding it. Only Azlan himself may know.
I'm glad you like it.
Wonderful! Simply wonderful! And the background splash really brightens it up. The only criticism I can think of is that the top is a bit blurry. However, that 's the scanner's fault, not yours. Karma! Karma for all!
Nice art, Gabi. :3

...What's on Tiger_T's head?
That's a duck.
"What duck?"
I was thinking of a pigeon, but llearch's interpretation is funny and the shadows hide the details, so I'll count it as valid too.
It looks like red dreadlocks.
Oh, and a bird. :3

This didn't come out as I expected, the paper wasn't good and every time I erased anything it got worse. But I guess it's still decent, if you don't know what the original idea was.
...And so the search for good drawing paper continues.
I still deny the existance of any donation given... :P
very nice picture, the outfits are cool.
The human is nicely done, though the head looks a little large in proportion... but I have a poor eye for that, could just be me.
No, you're right. I told you it didn't come out as I'd expected. And thanks again, for your comments and for the donation you deny.
Edit: this isn't my art, but it's art about me, so I guess it counts. Rotating image by the combined talents of Amber, Taski, FKK, myself and an annonymous artist on Furcadia. It could be used as an avatar... but not for now.

Alright, November's donation pic is finally done! I colored it on my computer this time, that's why it took me so long.

Note: I know you said DDR and this is not it, but I don't know what a DDR machine looks like, so I made this one up from the few variants I've seen. Sorry.
That looks exactly like Pump it Up (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_it_up), one of the many variants on DDR, just so you know. Like the pic... anything even remotely DDR-related is cool in my book. :3
Thanks, Supercheese! I'm glad you like it. :)
You're right, it's the same pad.
Hmm, Argentina... *gets an idea*

The location of (some) DDR machines in Buenos Aires. :)
Err... thanks. I never said there weren't any. I just said I hadn't seen them. I don't normally frequent the arcades. I didn't know there was a chart of DDR machines of the world, though. The reaches of the Internet never cease to amaze me.
O_O I've looked at the locations. The first on the list is right where I take the subway to go to work!
*evill snicker*
Heh, who'da thunk llearch would kick ass at DDR. Excellent work, Gabi. *Cheesy Mento thumbs-up!*
You drew Doctor Ink quite well...Side note..He's scary as hell...
Dang you Llearch!
One day I'll beat you at DDR! (not really *rolleyes*)
But!

:boogie Nice one, Gabi! :mowhappy
Thanks a lot, everyone. :)
Well, T_T, you did quite well yourself. It's not your fault llearch has been practising since the "Night on the town" club group picture. ;)
And Zedd... thank you. I liked how he came out too, even though I felt I was commiting redundancy when I inked him. As for him being scary... Well, at least he's taking notes and not gender-bending anyone right now.
Tiger: Actually, I'm surprised I beat anyone.
you did pretty well, though. :-)
Still, you won. :rolleyes
I wonder what Ink is up to. He seems to study us.
I can say the grey fox likes toying with my button and Abels the most...
Err... I guess this counts as art. I'll post something more elaborate next time. But at least it fulfilled its original purpose.

Well, here's the more elaborate drawing I promised. It's Erin, from Quest of Twelve (http://clockworkmansion.com/forum/index.php?topic=1622.0). She was a pain to color, but I think she came out close enough to what I imagined her like after all.

Now... the December donation pic is finally here! After a day of drawing, a day of inking and coloring some bits with real media, 3 days of waiting for the computer attached to the scanner to become available and a bit over 2 more days to color it and add all the effects... I did more than a few experiments here. Some went better than others, but in any case I think I've learnt a few things while doing this. And yes, it's an odd angle. Bwahahahaha... :mwaha

I'm just such a troublemaker. :-)
Nice pic, though...
Looks pretty good!
I like how his glasses seem 3D. They really fit well.
Small critique:
His left sleeve has a strange white streak, as have the tiles of the tower in the background.
Experimenting is good.
One learns much of it:
To shrink the final picture to avoid crappy lines.
To use multiple layers to add shadows.
To not use .jpg to store the WIP-file.
To not set the house on fire.
>:3 :rolleyes
BTW, what is your art-program of joice?
Thanks for all your comments. :)
I use GIMP most of the time. Sometimes I add a few touches with Paint SHop Pro (which I didn't do for this image), but it's a hassle because it only runs on Windows so I have to reboot whenever I want to use it. So yes, mostly GIMP. The 2 things I like about PSP that GIMP doesn't have are match modes, and point-to-point/smart edge selection. Despeckle is also useful sometimes, for poor scans.
I'm glad you liked the glasses, I think they were the best of all the experiments I tried. I first colored the lens with a 6B pencil before scanning them, and then used the bucket fill tool set to chocolate brown with the Saturation blend mode. As for the frame... I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to repeat it if I tried. It was a matter of filling it with light blue and medium grey using different blend modes until it looked ok. But I think the Burn blend mode was responsible for that 3D look.
As for the small critique...
You missed the mess at the top of the window, which I'm sure everyone will look at now. Sorry about the lighter streaks on the tower, it was an accident. I'll make sure to be more careful when trying out light effects.
What's the WIP-file? I never store any of my drawings as .JPG anyway, the quality loss is too much.
Aw, does that mean I was the only contributor in December?
From the rather wicked expression and the castle backdrop I'd guess this rendition was rooted in the Johan Cross story. It's very nice :3
I see what TigerT means about the left sleeve, but I can probably correct that this end (either by darkening or at a pinch, the clone brush).
Personally I don't see the 3D-ness of the glasses although they do seem to have an anti-scratch coating.

WIP means 'Work-In-Progress', so yeah you're doing that anyway.
Yes, you were the only one.
I'm glad you like it. :) Yes, I did get some inspiration from your story, though it was a mixture, actually.
Ah, the clone brush... that's one more thing for which I need to resort to PSP. And also the scratch removal tool.
I'm not sure whether darkening would work or not, but I can try.

Now I'm curious. What's the PSP clone brush do that the GIMP one doesn't?
Work In Progress, right. :rolleyes
I usually use .png or when working multi-layer the GIMP's own brand .xcf to save those.
I'm sure some copy and pasting could easily repair the windowframe. :3 :mowwink
For the sleeves, maybe try this:
Add a new frame aboth your pic, paint the parts you want darker in a dark color and then pull the transparency-lever until it matches. (I hope I make sense to you. :animesweat)
Here's the sleeve after about 45 seconds with the clone tool:
[redacted]
One thing which I didn't really want to mention is that the ears are too small, that's a structural change though. I might try to fix it myself, but don't sweat it.
Oh, I've done some changes myself. Not just the sleeve, but the tower and the top of the window as well (I edited the original post, so you can click again to see the new version).
As for the ears... Sure, go ahead. And thanks for your help.
This is my take.. I've given him ear extensions and smoothed out the ragged shading on the trousers and the shadow.

Zedd & KK: In general when I look in the mirror, the dialogue that comes out of my mouth is more along the lines of "You, sir, look ugleh."
Gabi: Very cute work, though you might need to darken the eyes a little and put a little white around the corner of that eye. I might wear glasses but I'm not blind yet... and I was kinda thinking you'd forget my name so I could sneak that donation in and run. :p

I can still write short stories! Even when I'm preparing a class!
I posted this story as an entry for a writing contest on another forum. There were 2 rules: the story had to have fewer than 2500 words and involve a mysterious box or package.
Here's what I came up with. (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/showpost.php?p=347507&postcount=2)
Ok, I know, it was a lame and soppy story. Sorry I posted it.
But now I have a new drawing. Today is Tradition Day in Argentina. We normally don't do anything about it, but I decided not to honor that perticular tradition this time. Instead, I made a drawing of my character dressed in a traditional outfit.
That's nice, although the eyes look a little creepy IMHO. What is she holding?
Ah, you missed that because I didn't take it to AC '07, only to '06. It's a mate cup. Mate is a drink somewhat similar to tea, but the most common way of drinking it is by pouring the pieces of dry leaves straight into the cup, inserting a metallic or wooden straw, pouring water (and optionally sugar) and drinking from the straw. The cup is often made from a small kind of pumpkin, but some are made of wood, metal, cow horns or even plastic.
I guess I should have made the eyes bigger. I should have used a table too, instead of drawing on my legs. -_-
I like the pattern on the dress.
Thanks. :)
I'm so tempted to make a mate joke but I won't seeing as how the pic looks so cute. :P Nice attire, young vulpine.
A very nice old timey looking outfit .. nicely done, especially since you said you drew it on your legs.

All the squirrels I've seen have a rather angular head, so it might be an idea to increase the length of the muzzle a bit for that reason. Also the edges are kind of crinkly, but apart from that it's instantly recognisable and nicely drawn.
Thanks, JP. I don't think there's much I can do about the borders, but I think I've improved the muzzle a bit without changing much of the image.

Aren't rats supposed to have a hairless tail? Or is that only a particular type of rat?
mostly hairless, although i would assume that its either a tail warmer or makeup or something- people who wear fishnet are liable to do other strange fashion
QuoteIf most of us are ashamed of shabby clothes and shoddy furniture, let us be more ashamed of shabby ideas and shoddy philosophies... It would be a sad situation if the wrapper were better than the meat wrapped inside it.
I'm afraid we'll have to be left with speculations unless the character's owner shows up. The tail looked that way in the references. Some of the references also included piercings, but I didn't want to overdo it with the accessories.

I should have recognized the species, reading "room for one more" like I do.
That makes logical sense, although what "Room for One More" might be I'm not sure. He might have meant something entirely different, of course.
That was probably it.
Room For One More (http://www.ottercomics.us/rfom/)
At least, this is what I assume he was referring to.
Yes it was. thank you Lion heart. Also i'm sorry about the slow responses but between work and travel time now that my car is down again i haven't had as much ti to catch up with the forum like i normally do. After all i have to sleep some time or i can't do my job very well.
A gift to the squirrels on the forum!

Not a drawing, but still art.
I question the definition of art...
it is a wonderful photograph of an acorn, which itself is a work of art, so while it is art, I ask what it signifies?
does the long stem in sharp focus leading to the blurry nut have some symbolic or phalic meaning?
does it represent life's hard blurry nature as we get both the short end of the stick and crunchy nut of satisfaction?
why are nuts so fascinating?
Why is it that critics always see more into the works they critique than the artists intended?
I liked the acorn, and I liked the play of lights and shadows, and of sharpness and blurs. Anything else you see in it is up to you.
Ok, I've finally uploaded something new! As poorly shaded as ever, but...
This is a concept test. She is commonly known as Miss Claire, and is a character who came up as I wrote my background for the Furrae Chronicles RPG. Comments are welcome and the image is clickable.

It looks great, Gabi ^^ I would be most interested to learn more about this character. You'll improve with the shading with practice. ^^
Thanks, Gareeku! Both for your comment and for your support. :)
I may write something about her one day, as soon as I can form a story out of the scattered bits I have in my mind, and I have the time to type it down.
Long time no post! But I have something new at last.
This odd character comes from a story I've been writing lately.
Sorry about the borders. I've found no way to fix them. And the shading is as poor as ever, I know. I hope someday I will learn.
colorful, but looks kinda like the map selling fairtything from zelda- marjoras mask
...Which is odd, considering I've never seen that game, nor that fairy. Do you have a picture, so I can compare?
Thanks to JP for reopening this topic!
2 (clickable) drawings this time!
SS gift for Gorn: (http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g26/Gliynn/DMFA%20drawings/th_SS08.png) (http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g26/Gliynn/DMFA%20drawings/?action=view¤t=SS08.png)
Thank you gift for... should be obvious: (http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g26/Gliynn/DMFA%20drawings/th_fishing.png) (http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g26/Gliynn/DMFA%20drawings/?action=view¤t=fishing.png)
Hey, those are cute! The one with me especially. Heh, you're quite welcome as well. ^^
I was actually fishing for halibut, but... :3
If that's the catch on your fishing trips then count me in for next time- all purpose fox vixen season, sweat :boogie! Really fun pic, Gabi!
Thank you! ^_^
Thanks for reopening it yet again!
I've made some drawings for a Pokemon site, and guess what! I'm finally getting the hang of shading! Here's what I've done.
(http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/3962/totodile.png) (http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/558/dittoa.png)
Ya, I'll say you're getting the hang of it!
I reaaaally need to start shading too and stop simply paint bucketing everything. XD
Indeed Gabi, the lighting on that jelly-thing looks awesome. Also the tongue of the croco-cutie is spot on with the shades.
Thanks, both of you! :hug
I hope I can translate this to other kinds of characters and objects in the future. I know there's still a long way to go, but I'm glad I've managed this.
As for the lighting on the Ditto (a.k.a. jelly-thing), I used a layer on soft-light mode, selected the areas with the freehand selection tool with antialiasing and feather edges set on, and then bucket-filled them with white.
Looks good Gabi. I was wondering though, the dragon thing, would it look better with some shading on the arm? If it's there and I'm just not seeing it, sorry, my screen isn't the best.
There is some. Perhaps there's too much of it.
And it's a crocodile-thing, not a dragon-thing. But I understood anyway.
Oh how very cute! Pokemon are awesome! (even though I don't know a lot about them :animesweat) I definitely like what you do Gabi! I'll have to keep watching :boogie
Man, you have done triple shading on the Croki thing Tongue:) Great work!
I have not tried to put it on my so far works, maybe I shall get into it.

Good likenesses (from what I know), and really good shading, you can hardly tell its there .. mm that's a compliment BTW .. I guess it's subtle but very effective is the better statement.
Aww, thank you! (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h18/ItosAtio/Smilies/5grouphug.gif)
I did 2 tones for the tongue first, then I looked at it and felt something was missing, so I added the middle tone.
not really a pokeamon fain but those were some well made pictures. and i love the one of Ashia fishsing you of of the fishing pond.
Thanks, e!
Here's something I did for Bas, based on a joke from a chatroom.
Quote from: Mel DragonkittyWhen he's the only guy in the chat we make him wear the pink feather boa.
(http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/93/boavet.th.png) (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/boavet.png/)
I didn't take the effort to shade it because it's just a joke, not a serious "work of art". I offer my apologies to Basilisk2150, who said it was an awful thing to do to a demon, but still authorized me to post it here. Also sorry for not getting the size of the wings right, I didn't have any good references to work with. And on top of it all, I've just finished a sentence with a preposition.
Nice! hmmm... Don't cha think Bas's "Captain Morgan" avatar would look all so spiffy with a pink boa? :P
poor guy but a least people don't hijack his body while he's sleeping
I'm back with more stuff!
First, my SS gifts for Lena: High res (no background) (http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/1049/sslena.png) - Low res (with background) (http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/350/sslenafondo.png)
And now... a pencil sketch of my RP characters Jazmín and Leika. I'm currently playing D&D 3.5 with my brother and a few friends. These are mycharacters: Jazmín Dayat, a half-elf druid, and Leika, her beloved and loyal dog. Jazmín looks unusually calm in this picture (she's normally rather paranoid). Maybe she has finally managed to get a good night's sleep without being attacked by undead or mysterious creatures of any kind? While Leika is making full use of the canine charm which has made her everyone's favorite party member.
(http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/6334/jyl.gif) (http://img59.imageshack.us/i/jyl.gif/)
Jasmin's proportions look very nice, as do her clothes. I also like Leika, really looks like a dog. :januscat
Thanks, Lysander. And thanks to those who commented via IM.
Here's an experiment I've just made: I'm trying an array of new techniques this time, and I've made a 100% digital image. I thought I might as well show William's face while I was at it.
It didn't turn out as good as I expected, but not so bad either, considering it was my first serious attempt at fully-digital drawing (non-serious is much easier).

Name: William Starshine
Nicknames: Will, Willy
Age: 24, I think (I'm not sure how the timeline goes)
Family: mother (Sylvia Moonbeam), father (Robert Starshine), sister (Gabrielle Starshine), may have a girlfriend by now.
Species: Red Fox.
Race: either you already know or you don't need to, he would say.
Profession: adventurer (no, he doesn't wear those glasses when he's out on a quest, but he does when he's relaxing; and they're tied behind his head under his hair).
