Title: [Bounty Project Chapter 12]
Post by: Starcat5 on August 19, 2025, 03:21:31 PM
12-01 - I love the sound of breaking glass

Lets face facts. Breaking the stained glass window was a bigger distraction than any fire alarm could have been for these nutters.  :mwaha

I like Keaton's creative interpretation.

12-02 - Keaton is, well, being Keaton

To be fair to Keaton, "Move or die" doesn't need to be spelled out to be made clear.

Why do zealots always think their chosen religious icon will protect them from 'human' threats? The jackass verger deserves to lose his head for such hubris.

I know. It is like taunting a Wizard that a magic barrier will stop all their spells, only for the last thing they ever see is the wrong end of a Glock. ...or at the very least getting their head smashed in by the Wizard's Staff.

12-03 - What happens when you kill your own guild hires

The fox headsman is about to meet his end. That just leaves the difficult part of going after the woman who ordered Roger's death.

And as usual, Mary's enjoying herself while everyone else is somber.

12-04 - Headless in Seattle

And of course, Commander Foster gets the messiest part of the job: sending his commiserations to Roger's widow.

For some reason, I imagine the sound of Luke Skywalker's landspeeder when Josh's wings are in use.

I imagine it's a high-pitched whine. Which might be another reason he can't keep it running for long.

So, the landspeeder on helium, then? :mowtongue

12-06 - Fun fact: motorcycle leathers are sometimes made from kangaroo

"For kangaroo, by kangaroo, from kangaroo." ~someone who has watched LPs of Undertale.  :mwaha

Probably for the best that this receptionist never goes there. Considering how Josh was treated, they might have never left alive if they did.

I get the impression that there is a huge cutoff in communication with the outside world from there and quite a large missing person list because of that place.

Maybe I should look into one of those Let's Plays sometime- maybe the one by Jacksepticeye...

Anyway, I wonder if Tim is able to greet his paymasters openly (obviously leaving his bike outside the town limits) or if he has to sneak in the backdoor to get his money. (Not that kind of backdoor- get your heads out of the gutter)

He's more a technician than a receptionist.

If they saw him carrying a laptop it would be bad news. But if he just walks up in racing leathers, they probably don't care.  It's implants and other high-tech they're worried about more than clothes.

12-07 - They do actually have a good reason to ask that

"Look, just because I'm into leather, bikes and loud music doesn't mean I'm gay."

*cough*

12-08 - What's right with that bounty?

I think Tim's beginning to get the picture.

Neat that the switch to a visual medium helps emphasize Tim being a bit of a dick, which didn't really come through (at least to my perspective) in the original story.

I mean, it did start to become obvious that you were probably meant to initially see him like that, though not in any way that I can argue or elaborate on without being at least slightly spoilery, so I'll just leave it at enjoying the upside in the medium change.

I will admit that I did read it as it was being written, and didn't re-read the old chapters when new ones were posted, so that not really registering as part of Tim's character may just be a me thing.

I also read the story as it was being written and Tim's comments definitely came off as dickish to me.

12-09 - Time's up

Dangit, either the biker leather remark was too early or that part made it in afterwards?

Keaton does have interesting twists on the old similes.

12-10 - Keaton snatches what little murder she can get away with

More like "premeditated self defense." Those MoFos came here specifically to kill everyone present, after all. Not her fault she's enjoying herself.  :mwaha

12-11 - Mary wants to get ahead

Nice timing on this one. If iRL hadn't been such an issue, this would have landed in time for my birthday.

...and All Hallows' Eve, of course.  :mowwink

The day before, eh? At least you're unlikely to forget.

Anyway, Mary's got a macabre taste in Hallow's Eve decor.
