Ulysses at least had company on his voyage, albeit generally foolish company. Bluff is having to face these perils all by his lonesome.

For that matter, Ulysses actually got to return home. Bluff seems to be in a place where each step he takes just leads him farther from home and makes it even less likely that he will ever be able to get back :cry . And he probably realizes it....
I kinda suspect that he's going to end up 'going native' as part of his character arc but knowing (or at least having very good reason to believe) that you've basically lost hope of reaching your loved ones again would be extremely rough.
