Title: Seeking advice
Post by: GabrielsThoughts on September 30, 2006, 01:45:30 PM
I just got my first Credit Card!!! Woot!

Hooray for me, I am now a member of the lower middle class elite at twenty three years old. The advice I'm seeking isn't so much credit card related as much as a question about web hosting. I'm looking for affordable, usable, and convienient web hosting  to waste my money on so any suggestions or advice... and No Keenspace (they don't support PHP, and while I suck at it  I still would rather have it be my page, my way, without any negative interfearence )... plus any tips on how to set up paypal account or whatever would be nce.

Use NetFirms. Though they claim a 750GB a month transfer limit, my friend managed to host about 2 TB (66GB downloads a day(!)) a month without them complaining. http://www.netfirms.com/

That hosting service actually looks rather nifty...
Still, they seem to have fairly recent versions of the software but mysql 4.1?  :<
I miss my stored procedures.

1&1?  I didn't know they operated in the US.  Yeah, we use them at work.  I can't complain, although I do recall that getting a cron job to run on their systems for periodic reporting was an incredible pain.
Their servers run on Germany time as well, which can be a little confusing although it would be less confusing from the US since the two timezones will never intersect (UK and Europe do for part of the year).

1&1 is what James is using, actually. I helped him find something cheap-ish.
