Hey guys..I'm typing from Dmoons account since I dont feel up to logging out and logging in just for an announcement.
At the time I'm pretty sick and its thrown quite an effective monkey-wrench into everything. Staying upright for more than an hour is causing dizzy-spells and I'm a bit shaky. It is also really hard to focus...meaning that unless I start recovering soon I might have to delay Friday's comic some. It's inked and such, but I can't focus long enough to properly colour.
For those wondering, I'm not 100% sure what I have. It struck quickly, as I left Canada in decent health but it seemed 3 hours upon walking in the door at Indiana I started to feel that trickly ickly on the back of my throat. So far my throat has gone from painful to swallow to annoyingly uncomfortable. My nose and sinuses are currently taking the biggest hit, and its causing me ears to ache slightly as well as my head. Those lymph nodes on my neck are also tender which likely means they are aware that I am sickling. Luckily I havent had much in the ways of fever.
At the time I'm keeping low...basically staying on the couch and drinking a ton of water as well as napping on and off. If all goes well I'll have hit the worst and be back towards workable soon.
Once again, I'm really sorry. I'll prolly put something up on friday, either the comic or some notice of the sickiness. Till then, I'm out.
Amber
Don't worry about the comic, silly Amber, just be sure to get better. :)
Get well soon...We care about yous...Just dont push yourselfs *huggles tight*
Sounds like what I had last week. If so, it means a sore throat for a few days, then lots of sneezing and nose goblins. o: Let's just hope it's so simple.
bleh thats what I'm getting over right now.
That's The Bug. It's been striking all over the Midwest lately. I had it for a while. It sucks. :( Just about everyone I know has caught it and either still has it or is getting over it. I went through an entire box of tissues during one chem class. It wasn't fun. But you're not alone. (I'm in NW Indiana.)
I've had that before... I couldn't stand up at all though... Amber... tip... heres what I did anyway.... I crawled wherever I went... o.o;
Hope you feel better soon! Get rest, stay away from dizzying things! Try not to over exert...
It might be caused from the switching of what your used to germs to another states germs.... or whatnot..
I think she's allergic to our couch.
I just got over this myself, it is made of much fail and sadness.
I hope you get better soon though. :)
That's the most bizarre case of home sickness that I've ever heard of. :footinmouth
Get well soon. ^_^
If she felt fine until she walked into the house, I'd say that points to some sort of allergy. 'Course she could just be sick for all I know. I caught something like what Amber has back in late August, had about a week of runny nose, scratchy throat, and general tiredness. It was just after I moved into college, so like now, I didn't know whether or not it was allergy-related. Just rest for right now, drink plenty of fluids, and give your immune system a favorable battleground. If Friday's comic doesn't look like it'll get done, don't sweat it. Despite our clamoring, we forumites can be a patient bunch... we can wait a few more days to get our comic fix.
Get well soon! :mowmeep
Come now Comrades, isn't it obvious what has happened to Amber? Even though she has only been in Canada for a short time, her exposure to a Socialist system (even one as flawed as Canada's) has made her body realize that it doesn't want to return to America, even if she does not consciously realize it yet.
A little R&R, assisted by medicine (capitalist medicine admittedly, but watcha gonna do?) and a quick return to Canadia (sic), and everything will be cake- Socialist cake! :mowsmile
So rest up Comrade Amber- when we've gotten used to waiting in line 5 hours for a loaf of bread, we can wait a while for your comic while you reuperate :D
Swollen and tender lymph nodes mean an infection, allergies don't cause a lymph response. See a doctor if you can.

You might want to try a hot todd before going to bed. It softens the throat a bit, and it'll warm you up.
1 1/2 ounces whiskey (or bourbon)
1 ounce honey
1/3 ounce lemon juice
3 ounces water (hot)
put the honey and lemon juice in a glass, and microwave until hot. add hot water and whiskey and stir. Then sip at your leasure.
Don't drink this before driving, or when underage, please.
I agree with Zorro - check with someone about those symptoms. The lymph nodes in particular are worrysome.
As far as the comic goes, we can wait a month if we have to. Get better, or the quality may slip, and that's much worse, in my oh so arrogant opinion. I dunno about anyone else, but I'm happy to wait for good stuff. :-)
I can't really make a much more practical comment than "Get Well Soon". Sorry about that.
Neither can I unfortunatly...
ugh, did you leave your window open or the air condition pointing at your face during the drive? :U
Chicken soup for you, and take care.

I know they are nice, but you're supposed to take only 1 (one, as in "less then two") before going to bed, not chug them all day long.
Think of it as home-made nyquil, except with ingredients you can pronounce.
I hope she doesn't get what I got 2 years ago, It sucked up soo much of my strength at the time, I couldn't even get up. That's the last thing Amber needs.
Get well soon Amber! :mowmeep

At Children's Hospital, we got an email indicating that RSv (respiratory syncitial virus) activity is unusually high for this time of year. The symptoms sound very much like it. Generally, the worst of it only lasts 3-4 days. i had it last year... but the coughing can hang on annoyingly for weeks, depending on the virus strain. :mowtongue

Like the others already said: Get better. That's first priority; everything else can come once you're in good health again. We can keep ourselves entertained without comics for a while. If push comes to shove, we'll just put somebody on fire or speculate about subliminal braille-encoded messages in Abel's fur pattern. ;)
it seems you were right... these times have been really sucky for webcomic artists. coming back and right away getting a sickness that recently shown up is really a lame luck
hope both your health and your luck get better soon :P

Hmmm, seems like you're already allergic to the States! You ate some Canadian Bacon up there, didn't you? See, that's where it starts.
Hope you get better soon, Ms. Panyko. And we don't mind hiatii in case of RL, sickness, moving, and the ilk.

Amber here.
The good news is I'm improved from yesterday. The bad news is...anything is probably an improvement from yesterday. Thankfully my throat seems to be moving from "everything hurts" to "numb pain except when you swallow" My nose is still its sniffly-runny self...and my ears are still hurting. My stomach seems to be thankfully spared of this hassle...though my appetite is shot.
Overall its just an overwhelming sense of "blargh". Though my lymph nodes have reduced which likely means I'm winning the battle. All in all nothing doctor-required yet, and I've been playing it safe by sleeping/laying down a lot, drinking ungodly amounts of water, and taking medicine when necessary.
I'm expecting recovery, it's just going to be one of those "the next couple days are going to SUCK" things...and they have.
Murphy, if you are out there...you can totally suck it. and your laws too.
Dont worry amber..Rember..Murphy too was a grunt :B And i will kick his butt too
Wow, your day sucked. Feel better soon and the like.
Bah, back in my day cartoonists didn't stop working when they were sick. They kept on going if the best plot they could think of was everyone stepping in gum at the same time! And sneeze marks on the page were a sign of integrity too! Grumble grumble.
You know I'm kidding. Seriously, feel better soon. Have some soup or something. G'wan, off the computer and back to bed.

Of course not! We all know that the cops' main priority is framing rich black men. Michael Jackson... er... Mr. Jefferson got away because they thought he was a rich white guy at first. (I love that episode, it's so evil and wrong >:3 )

Contrary to folk medicine the best treatment for nausea is NOT to drink liquids. Liquid is the hardest thing to hold down.
When you start to recover Gatorade or Pedialyte is the first liquid you should chance.
Hope you feel better Amber.
This thread reminds me of an odd dream I had as a kid. I was turning into an orange and I needed pedialyte. I'm not going to say any more on the subject, but I now find it like it was some sort of sign, now that i'm seeing the mention of oranges and pedialyte in the same thread...
I kinda hope it's one of those good signs, like.. I dunno, an instant recovery for Amber.

Zorro; it's always mentioned on sports/energy drinks (at least over here in the UK) that they are
not suitable for replacing lost water. And you're going to have to drink
anyway because otherwise you're going to get dehydrated which is only going to make things worse. ;)
*Charles yays!* A topic about barf! Joy! :B
Heh, I found out by accident that if you eat a banana and drink a cup of plain tea on an empty stomach and then take a multivitamin it causes a toxic chemical reaction in the stomach that induces vomiting... very very very strongly. :P
It's likely due to some fruit flavonoids and pentose sugars reacting with tea alkaloids via vitamin co-enzyme activity, perhaps causing the formation of cyanogenic glycosides or atypical amino acids.
Great, I'm curious about the mechanism. Now I need to experiment.
Ms Amber,
Will you stop getting sick already? I know most webcomic artists are closet masochists and all, but geez, enough is enough!
A few years ago, when my mother was sick, I bought her a cake with the message "GET WELL OR ELSE!" on it. The baker almost refused to write the message; she thought it was a threat. :)
Great, now I'm hungry. Mmmm, caaake..
Mamber I've got a small sugestion for you hon
If you want a little relief... it'll just be temperary mind you fromg the snuffly nose and draining sinuses, thats the sore throat your dinuses draining doen the back of your theroat. go get something called Shower soothers, and take a nice hot shower with one it'll realy clear your head. Well, you have to admit ShiningShadow's the source of most of them.
Now now, let's not start the public attack/defense stuff. Point him to the rules in a PM or report him to a moderator. That'll remove the need for two pages of who-deserved-how-much debates. This is a well-wishing and helpful-hint thread for Ms Amber. Let's not ruin it, 'k?
Meanwhile, back on topic.. My mom always fed me 7-Up and/or ginger ale when I was sick. While they both made me feel better, I can no longer drink them when I'm heathly. When I do, my body expects to be sick and tries to compensate. Stupid conditioned responses..
I'm surprised no one's suggested the ultimate solution yet: CHOKLIT!!

... Oh that is 32 flavors of not good *sneezes*
The sickness that is being discussed seems to have missed a part of the midwest. I'm in Northeast Illinois and nobody I know has it.

Sounds like you've got a touch of what I had the week before last, Amber. If it's sinus congestion that's being the main bother, I suggest a product called Mucinex. It's a VERY good expectorant, and one tablet is enough to liquefy all that's blocking everything in order for one to do a thorough cleansing, and breath properly.
Not to mention a little Vaporrub under the nose helps at night too.

Same here, I've been on so many operations, that my stomach was doing flip flops because of the anesthesia (strongest stuff they could get, two open heart operations). Any kind of non syrupy drink will do, as long as it's carbonated. 7-up and ginger ale are great. Though lately, tonic water has also helped me from time to time.
Also, other than liquids in your stomach, it's important to have something a bit more solid in you. I'm not saying a Beef sandwich. But at least a bit of Jello. In case you throw up again, it should be easier on you, so you won't end up dry heaving or coughing up acid/bile.
Once your stomach is better. There's one thing that will help your sinuses get much better, very fast. Sushi with an extra helping of wasabi sauce (though, the strong one). A good sushi meal, with tissues close by will have your sinuses emptied faster than any medicine.
Well, bit late here.
I hope you feel better by now.
Being ill sucks. Get well soon.

No I'm just making the mood more lighter I know being sick sucks. But if you look at it having a good laugh will make you better it's scientificaly been proven with many patients watching the Three stooges laughing accelerating your body to heal quickly. If you don't beleive me then look it up at the web to see I don't lie and I don't lie to anybody I'm 100% truthful and honest through and through. And the prentinding to be sick and such I was trying to make Amber Laugh and see the brighter side of things. But if you see insensitivity on my part then that's not my intention. Then again there's an old saying you can't please everybody but I go on and continue to see the bright side of everything even death. So if you gonna chastise me go right ahead I have very thick skin and it dosen't bother me one bit....................
