My guess would be a sex-change operation, since the other typical thing here is a race swap, and Danni seems to be a normal Caucasian human just like the other villagers.
I knew it, I hecking knew it, Danni is trans. I didn't want to say it before because I'm always so fast to jump on trans character headcanons, but the line about the change temple pretty much solidifies it for me.
