Although they are probably gonna tie him up and drag him to the fae kingdom, and he still has to deal with Lorenda.

Well considering Lorenda was the one to catch Jy and try to talk to him I'm hoping she might take this chance to pull him away and get it over with.

No, Amber couldn't delay it any more if she tried.  She could delay us from seeing it.  But not delay its actual happening.

Edit: it appears that it is far too late for me to be both reading and understanding this.

Oh GOD don't say that. Saying 'she couldn't if she tried' is like a DIRECT challenge. Now if she sees this she's going to laugh maniacally and have some insane series of events occur that results in Jyras being transported to an alternate world that he's imprisonned in for a year leaving this put off for that plus however long it takes him to get home.

Or something worse!

huh.  OK, so this is the discussion topic.  Personally, I think the other one was more on-topic, but eh, not my place.

What I said in mined topic was... does this mean the universe has been destroyed and rebuilt at least once already?  Reminds me of 2401-Penitent Tangent's line in Halo 2: "Not true! This installation has a successful utilization record of 1.2 trillion simulated and 1 actual. It is ready to fire on demand."

Fixed.  :P

If the universe collapsed space-time would cease. The only ones that could exist would be Fae, because they can only not exist if they will it to be, and any dragon that severed their bond to time to travel to a point where it would be possible to exist, which would basically be any time before the end of that time and possibly the beginning of an arbitrarily large number of new timelines, each a different new reality.  :mowdizzy

You know, I think everyone's experienced that conversation from Jy's point of view at some time or another, where two people who know each other well snap off a flurry of intangible phrases and then burst out laughing and you have to go "Ah. Ha. Ha. Uh. Um."

DMFA - satirising the human condition one crushing blow at time.

It has been a long time since DMFA departed from being about an online game, but one could interpret the conversation as being about a server restart, or possibly a restoration from backup.

They might be referring to an earlier time when the Fae Realm imploded  (it was suggested that this could be how Destania intends to "end the dragon race" if the Dragons do have their own realm).
Alternatively it could be that Furrae has a cyclic cosmology a'la the big bang and the Fae are actually long-lived enough to have lived through a previous cycle.  But I will say no more about that as I don't want to drag this into another science thread if it will annoy Amber.

AH but once the universe "reboot"s There is no telling: how much of the present program data was save since the late backup.  Jyrras and Lorenda may not be on the backup disk.  Or Dan... Wait Mab would insure Dan was on the backup, but Biggs or Charline may not be...  MMMmm

I'm finding myself increasingly fond of Nutmeg, despite her tendency to talk about herself in the third person.  Then again, maybe that's an endearing trait.

The relationship between Mab and Nutmeg seems quite complex, however.  I have the feeling that it may not be wise to get two fae into close proximity.

Does anyone out there remember the last few episodes of the television series Reboot.  (I don't think it was shown in USA, but was available on DVD.)  After the universe was rebooted at the end, they ended up with two Enzo's of different ages.  Can you picture there being two Abel's and two Dan's.

I don't think it was ever said what get Mab exiled from the fae dimension.  Destroying the universe might do it.

Technically the end of the series was after the movies 'Damon Rising' and 'My Two Bobs'. These were even broken up into episodes and aired on tv as, what is considered to be, the forth season. The whole thing with Enzo happend at the end of the third season not, technically, the end of the series.

I don't remember season three or anything later from Reboot being shown in USA.  I was told the later material was aired in Canada, Great Britain, and presumably other Commonwealth nations, but was not aired in the USA because it was too ** dark **.  However, I think I remember something about some of the material appearing on one of the cable channels that I didn't get.

Jyrras's reaction is understandable.  After all, he doesn't fully understand magic, which fey are entirely.  So, after seeing and experiencing this much magic, he's wanting to go interact with something that he knows and understands, something he can predict, technology.  Then he will put that technology to use to relieve his stress.  It all makes sense, don't you see?

It wasn't so much that it was too dark. At the time, ABC had a standing policy of never running a Saturday Morning cartoon for more than 2 seasons, no matter how popular a following it had.

That sounds more reasonable.  It also sounds like a stupid idea.  However, considering the actions of the networks, the fact that it sounds like a stupid idea makes it more likely.

:mowignore So it had a few Little faults there. Then again, it was a Beta patch, and it was designed to give him other attributes too. ( Tall, Dark, Handsome )  There is no proof that the Beta patch didn't work. It was a case of  ( Tall, Dark, Handsome ) are relative settings that are genetically inherited or built up. Jyrras could have been just a full Kangaroo-Rat  Cubi . He never really tried any Cubi powers he might have got ...

:mowhappy Jyrass has made many things that are far ( fae ? ) fetched. Remember the 'Human' patch for Dan, and the patch that made the head wings go away, ( a patch built into a bracer ) ? Apart from the bad feeling of having the mow patch on, Dan seems to be proof that the patches work IN PRINCIPAL ... Personal body characteristics stay stable. Just, would you say that Dan's mind was stable ?

That would presume he'd built Cubi powers into the patch, and, since even Dan didn't know what Cubi powers he got, that would involve either Mab knowing all about Cubi, and sharing that info with Jyrras, but not her best friend Dan... Or Jyrras having a surprisingly detailed knowledge about Cubi but not telling Dan any of it.

Either seems far-fetched.

Well the logical answer for this could be rather simple. Perhaps Jyrras actually asked her about them. How often do you think Dan asks anyone, especially Mab, for educational backgrounds and knowledge.

How will this be circumvented?  By being in physical contact with a fae while going to their plane, a fae patch or some other means?  Or will walking through the closet in Dan's house be good enough?

QuoteThe actual kingdom the Fae preside in seems to be on another plane of exhistance itself which makes travel to it impossible to any non-Fae.
How will this be circumvented?  By being in physical contact with a fae while going to their plane, a fae patch or some other means?  Or will walking through the closet in Dan's house be good enough?

Kaskar, love ya buddy, but the mows have gotten out of hand.  I might need to call in a proffesional mow hunter. :gun2

It'll happen through a very strict logical and scientific mens. A fae wants it to happen so it'll happen. 'nuff said.

I wish everyone would quit trying to apply logic to the Fae. It's obvious by every one of Amber's points about them and anything she says that THE FAE DO NOT FIT INTO OUR PUNY HUMAN MEANS OF THINKING AND PHYSICS!

The fae could probably just think 'I want you to be pancakes' and poof YOU WOULD BE PANCAKES! No reason why, you just would be. Hell it'd probably change your whole history, if your pancake self looked in it's photo album all it's pictures from the past would have been replaced with it getting eaten by different people through history. Yes GETTING eaten yet still being here. Why? Because a fae wanted it to be that way, nothing more.

The fae could probably transport you to the fae kingdom a million and one different ways just for fun. They could do the whole contact thing one minute, then do the whole 'alter history so that you were actually born in the fae kingdom and thus were always there' method the next.

the only reason they say it's impossible for non-fae is because you have to BE fae to go there yourself. Odds are if a fae is on their way there grabbing onto them while they transport won't take you with them cuz they didn't want you to go with them.

I like that rule Llearch. It's clear and easy to follow. It even comes with a set punishment for violating it involving nails, leather, and a very large woman from Chzechoslovakia.

I suspect that there is also a rule that Amber can change her mind and therefore change the rules.

D&D has rules because it's a game, without rules everyone would just overpower everyone else. Real life, and works of fiction, are required to follow none of those rules.

As such fae can do literally whatever they want. They could change the system by which we calculate numbers so that 1 + 1 = tuna fish.

Ah no Amber has thoughtout many details so that they make sense.. so no Amber rarely changes her own rules even for magic.  It's just that she is the only one with the rule book...

We have seen both Pip and Dan (well, his hand) in what appears to be Mab's corner of the fae realm.  I do, however, like the idea that you can't enter unless the fae says so.

P.S. Can I just say that I'm glad that Kaskar has removed the : explosion from his sig?

The getting permission thing makes sense, I just really don't feel there's any specific method to getting others in. Though I wonder what the fae kingdom is like, maybe the true kingdom is designed around the fae's lack of necesities and is just a chaotic magical world.

Well if you want to piss off your fans you could do that, but it's nice to keep some sort of structure, a method to the madness as it were, otherwise what are they going to put in your wiki article?

That reminds of a scene from Sandman (or one of the related side-things) where Delirium ran into Satan's girlfriend in disguise, and cursed her that she'd be a creepy half-faced monster in love with the devil, and she and everyone else would remember that she'd always been that way.

She already *was* a creepy half-faced monster in love with the devil, and always had been. At least, as far as the readers had ever known... :B

Since Amber is the only one with the rule book, how would anybody know if she changed the rules?  Please note that I said that Amber reserves the right to change the rules and you stated that she rarely changes rules (as opposed to never changing rules).  If she rarely changes the rules, it means that you are stating that she can change the rules and are therefore agreeing with me.
