'Absolute Zero' by Mage, an indie prog-rock outfit in Boulder, Colorado who went on to form Singularity.
http://www.singularity.net/clips/absolute-zero.ra
This was recorded on a 4-track Tascam machine - most likely a portastudio rather than a model '34. (For those who despise RealPlayer (who doesn't) Mplayer can also decode them. WMP might be able to as well, but I don't know.)
New Orleans Is Sinking, by The Tragically Hip.

I'm sorry. :( My bro is always playing one of four instruments (trombone, trumpet, piano, guitar) or singing, and frankly, he's not very good at any of them.
'Dragula' by Rob Zombie. :B
Edit: Hey, at least you guys don't have an annoying mother who always has to sing in the car.
D: YOU CANNOT SING, MOM. YOUR SINGING MAKES MY EARS BLEEEEEED.
It only really bothers me when it's a song I really like. Like "Hotel California" the other day. I got back by whistling the guitar solo.
In The Raven-Haunted Forests Of Darkenhold, Where Shadows Reign And The Hues Of Sunlight Never Dance by Bal-Sagoth

I've heard better examples of backmasking. At home I have a recording of the Mr. Ed theme song, which has the relatively clear words 'selL youR souL tO sataN' if played backwards. Sadly I've not been able to track down a copy of the original song so I half-suspect it's been been tampered with.
have any of you heard if you play the album ''dark side of the moon'' by pink floyd you can hear the same sounds at the same time period from the movie wizard of oz???

Most of them are, but there are quite a few genuine ones. I want to try and do this for the audio version of strip #666, but I don't think it's really possible to do exactly what I'm planning on. I have a contingency plan, though.
And I'm currently listening to a demo of 'Shadow over Merthyr' by me. But that hardly counts.
Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody
Try playing this backwards:

Seiken Densetsu 3 - Hope Isolation Pray
The Who - Quadrophenia (track)
Wonderful instrumental. The whole album uses synths brilliantly.
Oh, and lest I forget
Tool - Lateralus (album)
Someone told me that I'd like this album if I liked King Crimson. I had 10,000 Days, which was dissapointing, but luckily for Tool's coffers, I'm a fan of the "Two Album Rule" (which incidently saved Rush after I tried the dissapointing "Moving Pictures", then gave the amazing "Hemispheres" a shot), so I gave it a shot. They were right. Excellent stuff, except for the filler.
Sorry to drag on about the backmasking, but I've just managed to download a copy of the "Mister Ed" theme song. (Guess what I'm currently listening to :B )
It's rather interesting: when played backwards, the phrase "That is, of course, unless" changes into something like "Sell your soul for Satan" (the word 'Satan' being less distinct, since the whole thing is after all a freak accident).
It seems that the words "course unless" become something very much like "sell your soul" in reverse, which could be useful to those wishing to write their own satanic messages.
I'll shut up about backmasking now.

Pink Floyd - Time
Brilliant, and economic lyrics from Waters.
QuoteTicking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans like these that come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spell.
Truly great music.
Wild applause, really. :-)

Good, nobody but Floyd should do Echoes. What a bloody beautiful piece of art that is.
You're so right about that, Bill. You really are. There are just some works that should never be defiled by duplication or even homage.
Anyway ...
I'm listening to Nectarine (http://www.theoldcomputer.com/Retro%20Radio/RetroRadio_Main.htm) because I'm a sucker for Amiga/C64 music. Snow Magic, dun' know who it's by.
Long ago in mother Russia where the human kind were few~, many of the woodland creatures spoke and lived as humans do~. Wisest of them knew snow-magic, Tigers, Bears and all the rest~. But among four-footed kindred, white Wolves knew it best~.
In~ the forest 'o~ the Northlands where light-curtains dance at night, lived a warrior named Alexi; he was young and fair~ and bright~. Many maidens sighed to see him but Alexi dwelled alone~, though they did their best to please him, to their charms he was as stone~.

Putting mine together was fun, I started from the base of the Uplink design. I then set about creating a similar design in the GIMP from scratch, the hardest part was probably setting the damn thing up in their interface with proper padding, positioning, colours and so on.
Basically e, it's a 'scrobbling' system, it plugs into your music player (be it iTunes, WinAMP or whatever else) and then tells everyone, everywhere, what you're listening to.
Just head to Last.FM (http://www.last.fm/) e, it's easy enough to figure out.

Admittedly this is after chewing through one of my "loose junk" directories, so just before this was Thou Shalt Not with If I Only Were A Goth, the Cruxshadows with Winter Born (thanks Janus), OPM with Heaven Is A Half Pipe, and Blind Guardian with Nightfall.
And next up is We Are Ferrets. :-)

Faker - Addicted Romantic - 07. Teenage Werewolf
Dream Theater - Blind Faith
By far, my favorite Dream Theater guitar solo is in this song. The 5:00 point on is my favorite part in any of their songs, except perhaps the overture of the Six Degrees suite. Rudess has a great piano/keyboard solo here as well. One of many reasons why I consider Six Degrees Dream Theater's masterpiece.

I haven't heard much of their stuff, and to be honest, I wasn't too impressed with what I have heard. But one song you must listen to is "Die Eier Von Satan", which is quite remarkable listening, if not exactly pleasant. It is in fact a recipe in German - there are English translations available.
I am currently listening to 'Cool World' by the Bartman Music Project (Torsten Bartkowiak) - lots of lovely M400 choir, courtesy of the M-Tron VST plugin.
Tool had a few vidoes that i liked but a lot of thire musice i didn't understand.

KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See
Nice album, Gullible.
I sortof like to mix that one with Natasha Bedingfield. And Grateful Dead, and Pitch Black, and Fat Freddy's Drop.
Barenaked Ladies' Stunt is also a good album. I particularly enjoyed "She's on Time" - and it's now running through my head on repeat.
Dammit.

Buffy TVS stuffs - what i am hearing btw... :p
Well, woot then. I just checked Progarchives, and it has a 4 even average. Nice. Do you have Different Stages, by the way?
no, i heard it is ''heavier'', is that truth?
Stages is a triple live album, and it freaking kicks ass. Some of the songs are heavier than the studio versions, so yes.
i know it's a lil off topic sam, but do you like elvis p.?
or the some rockage musicians, like jerry lee leweis or chuck berry and stuff like it?
George Thorogood - Bad to the Bone
I have a Chuck Berry comp, but that's it.
Rush - Natural Science (Live, 1997)
They made a great decision here to make the last segment of the song slightly shorter, as it went on a bit too long in the studio version. Geddy called this the definitive version of the song.
Elvis Aaron Presley - Heartbreak Hotel
i love this dark atmosphere about the song and the bass is just at the exact rhythm, when i hear it it makes me think it is the perfect soundtrack of a making out at 3 am on the 29th shot of jack's...

What's wrong with WMP? It's better than Creative Media Player, that was deadset on saying that 1 out of every 15 .mp3 files on my playlist were unknown file types. ¬_¬
It doesn't run on anything but windows.
It defaults to having huge great power-sucking dynamic pretties, and makes turning them off also turn off half the other capabilities.
It runs like a pig even after you turn that off.
It doesn't have a visible plugin interface, so nobody can write plugins to extend it to, say, enable new codecs. Other than MS, of course.
The codecs it does have aren't the best, either in a CPU sense, or in an output sense.
The sound interface doesn't provide particularly clear sound, either. That may be the hardware I've tested it on, but WinAMP appeared to work significantly better...
Need I go on? :) Yes, it *is* better than Creative Media Player (I presume, I haven't actually tested) Unfortunately, that's not saying much...
Meh, ignorance is bliss. Though I really don't like to be ignorant, so what would you suggest?

Since you ask, it looks like WMP11 is going to be a work of sheer evil, where you have to beg Microsoft's permission to play files you've ripped from CD yourself.

In Windows I use Winamp myself, and a multitude of things in Linux, depending on what I'm trying to do (sox/play to hear things backwards or at different speeds, XMMS for the GUI and playlist).
BeOS had a really nice shareware player that could run from -400% to +400% speed. But BeOS is dead and I can't remember what it was called...
**EDIT**

Well, I changed my title. I bet you all can guess what song that's from.
well, i don't... :p
We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!
I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?
There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the party on the left
Is the party on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'm listening to 'She's So Heavy' by The Beatles.

No. ^^
Radiohead - Creep
Well that's good, though I don't really like that song. In fact, I'm not even sure I have that album... :| Whichever album it's on. I have Amnesiac, The Bends, Hail to the Thief (Favorite), Kid A, Knives Out [US CD], and OK Computer.
Radiohead / Hail to the Thief / A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll.)
Creep was off Pablo Honey.
Given Radiohead's general dislike of the song, I'm surprised that anybody would use it to show that they listen to them...
Anyway, listening to
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - 04. Two-Headed Boy
I do like 'OK Computer', pretty much the entire thing. Like many others I dropped them like a hot potato after 'Kid A'. The earlier stuff didn't really catch my attention - the only track I liked on 'Pablo Honey' was 'You', there were a couple of decent bits on The Bends, but not enough to make me really check it out so far.
Bill, that radio station was a neat find.
'Lucky' by Radiohead
What's wrong with Kid A? Idioteque is one of my favorite songs. :D
I havn't heard of Pablo Honey, was it not released in the US?
System of a Down / Hypnotize / Stealing Society

There's nothing wrong with Kid A if you're looking back at it... but fans just didn't expect or want an almost purely electronic album.
And Pablo Honey was Radiohead's first album. At 13 years old, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd never heard of it (heck, I can never remember it... outside of Creep, it's just not all that notable).
Anyway, listening to
Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island - 12. Pree-Sisters Swallowing a Donkey's Eye
David Bowie - Space Oddity

More to the point, 'OK Computer' struck a chord with people who liked progressive rock. 'Kid A' did not. IMHO it was closer to lo-fi which I have never really been into.
Come to that, it was around that time that my brother was into lo-fi. This is one of his recordings: http://www.jpmorris.force9.co.uk/music/momafied.mp3
..but I digress.
I have heard some pretty good electronics - the soundtrack to "A Clockwork Orange" by Walter Carlos (now Wendy Carlos) or the legendary "White Noise - An Electric Storm" by White Noise, probably one of the finest examples of tape music.
In short, 'Kid A' was like 'Metal Machine Music' by Lou Reed - everyone bought it on the strength of the previous album, and was all like "what's this crap?" when they heard it.
Radiohead seemed to be able to survive it though - Reed had to claw his way back.
'Every Bloody Emperor' by VDGG
Thom Yorke / The Eraser / And It Rained All Night
'Forgotten Years' by Midnight Oil
Ill Nino - De la vida

I wouldn't recommend ordering Larks' Tongues. That's not very "easy" music to listen to. If you wanted to start, I'd recommend "Red", or "The Power To Believe". Both are masterpieces, and are more accessable.
Red (http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD.asp?cd_id=1911)
The Power To Believe (http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD.asp?cd_id=2177)
And for fun...
Hey! Who's that? (http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD.asp?cd_id=9584)

Papa roach - last resort
Good idea, Bill.
'In the Court of the Crimson King' - King Crimson
Hmm. I never really got into Court. There's plenty of magic moments there, like, for instance, all of Schizoid, and Epitaph, but the album just doesn't give me the same amazing feeling that Red does. I won't use the dreaded "O" word, since it's one of the albums of all time. But, I've always been of the opinion that their true masterpiece was Red.
Sonic Youth - Diamond Sea
King Crimson - Larks' Tongues In Aspic - The Talking Drum
Every track but Exiles owns on this album. Fun stuff.
Muse / Black Holes and Revelations / Soldier's Poem
There is no justice in the world, and there never was.
King Crimson - The Power To Believe - Level Five
This has the distinction of being the first KC song I listened to. And what a song it is.
Radiohead / Amnesiac / Like Spinning Plates
My brother says this is the beat from another of their songs (2+2=5, I think) played backwards, but I don't hear it.

I'll have to try Red. I'll agree that Court has its weak spots, like 'Talk to the Wind' which is a bit dull, and 'Moonchild' which is, frankly, shit. Listening to about 8 minutes of random plink-plonk sounds is not quite what I'm into. If they'd cut it at 3 minutes before it disintegrated it would be okay. But 3 excellent tracks out of 5 isn't too bad :P
'The Camera Eye' - Rush
(I don't understand why they ditched the Oberheim OBX for an Xa after that album - it sounds much nicer.)

Hmm, the title track's good, but the rest is rather forgettable, IMO.
By the way, I think Dream Theater is a clear leader for "Most often misspelled band".

So far I'm rather fond of 'Root of All Evil', 'Panic Attack' and 'Never Enough'. 'Octavarium' is kind of patchy, I think the best bit is 'Intervals' which is about 5 minutes before the end.
As for the spelling, yeah, that's a pain. Like 'Vapor Trails' and 'Color of Space' - I keep trying to spell them 'properly'.
'Never Enough' - Dream Theater
"Full Circle" was my favorite section, just for the silly word-chain vocals.
"Jack the Ripper Owens Wilson Phillips and my Supper's Ready"
If you really want a good DT album, try Six Degrees. Damn pricy, though, but it's one of the few albums to pull off that oh-so-hard feat of having no weak tracks. And it's a double album, for chrissakes. Even Quadrophenia had it's weak points (Oddly, these were all in disc 1, which breaks every double-concept album tradition known to man), and as for The Wall... Shoulda been 1 album. The concept just didn't gel enough, especially at the opening. Though the film was excellent. (And here I go off topic) Anyways, Six Degrees is oddly underrated by DT fans, because it follows their supposed "masterpiece", "Scenes from a Memory", which is one of my least favorite concept albums ever. It makes the storyline of "The Wall" seem cohesive. But I digress (again).

Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray
Quote[Part I]
so where do we begin
and what else can we say?
when the lines are all drawn
what should we do today?
[Part II]
are you listening
am i here screaming?
drowning in a silent sea
or only dreaming?
drifting in and out
his mind never rests
lying in shadows
replaying a thousand regrets
can you hear me
am i getting through?
a million miles away
or here beside you?
drifting in and out
his heart never forgets
lying in shadows
replaying a thousand regrets
and the minutes just pass
as the hours change
and the shifting sands
slowly rearrange
drifting in and out
his mind never rests
lying in shadows
replaying a thousand regrets
[Part III]
there's a cloud above us
and there's a shadow on us
and outside of us
hangs this shade of gray
rain falling
hours crawling
all around this shade of gray
there's a chill about us
and there's a sadness with us
and deep within us
lies this shade of gray
rain falling
hours crawling
all around this shade of gray
this shade of gray
"rain's falling, hours crawling"
this shade of gray
"rain's falling, hours crawling"
there's a space beside us
and there's miles between us
and all around us
grows this shade of gray
rain falling
hours crawling
all around this shade of gray
rain falling
hours crawling
all around this shade of gray
this shade of gray
"rain's falling, hours crawling"
this shade of gray
"rain's falling, hours crawling"
[Part IV]
listen
only us breathing
and the rain keeping time
dividing the silence
in a distant thunder
listen
only hearts beating
and the rain keeping time
measuring out the minutes
and taking us under
[Part V]
murdered in munich
crucified in rome
was killing time
on the long road home
let nothing bleed into nothing
and did nothing
let nothing bleed into nothing
and did nothing at all
withered in winter
wished away the night
was out of mind
while out of sight
let nothing bleed into nothing
and did nothing
let nothing bleed into nothing
and did nothing at all
let nothing bleed into nothing
and did nothing
let nothing bleed into nothing
and did nothing at all
watched the days just pass
as the seasons changed
and the shifting sands
slowly rearranged
but i will not eulogize
i won't apologize
i will not defend
anymore, anymore
i will not dramatize
i won't soliloquize
i will not pretend
anymore, anymore
[Part VI]
i know that i don't know you
and you couldn't know me
but time and space collided
and here we are, here we are
i know that you don't understand
and i can't explain
but circumstance conspired
and here we are, here we are
"the time is four nineteen..."
"time flies..."
"???"
"the answer is no..."
and i know we can't turn back all the years
time reflected in a shade of gray
but i often wonder what could have been
and i still hold on to yesterday
and i know we're not children any more
innocence lost in a sea of gray
but i often wonder what else could be
and i still dream of running away
so where do we begin
and what else can we say?
when the lines are all drawn
what should we do today?
[Part VII]
stare from the darkness
hear the silence call?
devise divisions, delay decisions,
watch the hours crawl and...
let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing?
let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing at all?
recite soliloquies
to shadows on the wall?
revise revisions, reverse decisions
watch our heros fall and...
let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing?
let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing at all?
"i want you to do me a favor..."
"i want you to get a gun...and just shoot me! shoot me!"
let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing?
let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing at all?
let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing?
let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing at all?
[Part VIII]
[Instrumental]
[Part IX]
stayed up late last night
lying here in bed
looking for words
to say the things i left unsaid
wind at my window
whispers to me instead
and i lie alone
writing letters in my head
where you are, i am
through nights that never end
where you are, i am
in words i'll never send
walked alone last night
cold streets of could be anywhere
looking for words
to share the thoughts i could not share
road at my heels
takes me away instead
and i walk alone
writing letters in my head
where you are, i am
through streets that never end
where you are, i am
in words i'll never send
where you are, i am
through nights that never end
where you are, i am
in words i'll never send
never, never send
stayed up late last night
lying here in bed
still looking for words
still writing letters in my head
[Part X]
[Instrumental]
[Part XI]
do you think that i, that i remember
do you think that i, that i recall
when you were falling
and i just watched it all?
do you think that i, that i remember
do you think that i, that i recall
when you were breaking
and i just let the pieces fall?
don't you think that i remember
don't you think that i recall
when you were alone, oh all alone
and i didn't hear, hear your call?
call... hear your call, hear your call, hear your call...
[Part XII]
this shade of gray
this certain sadness
this cold morning light
and this silent madness
it hangs in the air
it hangs like a memory
it hangs like a cloud
it hangs on desperately
between dark and light
between was and be
between young and old
between you and me
between you and me
i remember cities
and i remember rain
like the sound of your voice, falling
these memories and more remain
i remember winter
and i remember strain
like the sound of your voice, breaking
these memories and more remain
i remember the nights
and i remember pain
like the sound of your voice, alone
these memories and more remain
so where do we begin
and what else can we say?
when the lines are all drawn
what should we do today?
close our eyes awhile
as morning shadows play
and listen to the rain
wash the long night away
face to face we'll awake
to see another day
and with hope in our hearts
embrace this shade of gray
this pleasant shade of gray
