Title: 06/09/08 [DMFA #913] - No goons left

The laws of dramatic irony strike again. :<

Wow, it looks like they have one more hurdle to pass before tehy arrive at the big boss.  I hope dan is ready to fight, twisted ankle or not, when they get down to the final confrontation with DP.

Well, people don't die instantly (unless it's head pulverization..), and there's a convenient undead at the scene... (what percentage od damage must the bitee be to count as lethal enough for it to take precidence over other damage?)

Still needs more sporks imo.

33% says Dan steps in and saves the day.

When you start knocking down the henchmen the bigger boss baddies start making an appearance.  Ergo Never say "I think we are winning" or something like that, that's when you loose.
Celebrate victory after the final boss is defeated.

"You see a man. He has swords for arms, swords for legs, some swords grafted onto his back, and he is holding a sword which could depopulate India in a week. Roll initiative." I know that it is not a very good description of a Death Knight, but it was the firs thing that came to my mind when I saw the last panel of this strip.
..I hope this particular Death Knight isn't in a "cleavy" mood.. :paranoid

You have to admire how something this big and mechanical can sneak up on her. Dark Pegasus sure knows how to build a good Death Knight! (And yes, it's quite spiffy indeed!)

Also nice to see Hannah's priorities: "My cute and fluffy tail is missing! Oh, and my leg, but SERIOUSLY, MY TAIL!"

One, I wanna see a full pic of the deathknight with blade hand.

Two, I want my own army of mechadeathknights.  *flies off to his lab to build them*

Priorities shift like that when you become undead.  Missing limbs become a minor annoyance but cuteness is an irreplaceable loss.  Hannah was very attached to her cute fluffy tail.

Was.

Death-Knights are nothing more than Super-Golems?

I wonder how a D-K would fare against an Electromagnet.

First thought was that Anna found that big sword and strapped it on her back, then a couple seconds later I saw the rest of the Death Knight behind her. Was it just around the corner and see her pass or something, or did it notice the seismic disturbance and start investigating?

Dan, if you haven't already, you need to find that spork (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_116.php).

Hmm.
I think Mab's "I'm still suprised you hit the right team" line is funnier after the Alikya business.

And I bet this is when Anna shows her creature-powarrr!

Since everybody already took Were, I'm still down from Angel or Fae.

Especially since no-one has anyone else pegged properly... except maybe Dan is sure the three Amazons are, in fact, Amazons. Everyone thinks Aliyka is another of DP's guards, Aliyka thinks Dan is, and I've no idea if any of them realise yet Dan is actually not a girl.

Title: Re: 06/09/08 [DMFA #913] No goons left

I was thinking that myself, that there's no indication that any of them have realized Dan's actual gender. From their conversation, Dan must know Aliyka isn't a guard, but the others don't have that info yet."Dan, stop being too busy to tell your new friends about her!"

Anna's not a Fae, she isn't showing even tiny wings or antennae, and wearing so few accessories that they're not likely magically hidden. Though I guess that doesn't necessarily counter the possibility (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_841.php). I see nothing in Demo101 to indicate whether angels (or demons) can shapeshift like cubi can, though magic can counter that possible lack of innate ability.

I'm still sticking with Anna=being.

Well, I think that Dan knows that Aliyka isn't one of DP's guards.  Of course, Shannah and Aliyka could decide to simultaneously head-clunk the death knight.  In thier present mood, that might be effective.

Fae can shift themselves.  It's actually a curiosity that Azlan uses a patch instead of his magic.
From his cast page: Though it is unknown why he doesn't simply use his fae powers to change his looks but instead uses a patch.   Rose gets rid of all those things (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_842.php), and she's a relatively young fae.

I consider it the process of the brain shutting down and dying, which can be a slow process. The senses slowly blacking out, and awareness leaving the body. And then you don't wake up. :)

Well, changes might be gradual, but however you define it, there is one point in time where you meet that definition, and by that definition you go from alive to dead - instantly.

Talking about dying slowly though, brought back a rhyme I heard when I was a kid:

The old dog was dying by inches,
And dying by inches is hard.
So, we took him out in the alley,
And let him die by the yard.

Morbid, but funny.

Ok, ok, so you meant Hanna. :mowwink

I wonder, are Death Knights intelligent enough to know whether someone belongs or not, or do the guards and such wear some special amulet or other item that prevents the DK from treating them like non-employees?

Considering that death knights are constructs, they may be an extension of DK's awareness. They are most likely not sentient though, unless DK plans on breaking the life creation rulings...

But the definition of dead is, itself, a shifting target.  What was considered dead in the past is now the threshold at which you can be saved, and as medical science advances, the threshold retreats.  I don't think it will ever be destroyed, people will always die, of old age if nothing else.

*recalls a news story of a lady that was dead for atleast 8 hours, but they kept her on the medical equipment in case the family decided to donate her organs... to keep them fresh.  She just woke up and started living again.*

Of course, that had nothing to do with medical scence applied to bring her back so much as a lot of luck, but it makes my point none the less.

Sure, it can change, but pick your standard, and for any given time and definition, you're either "alive" or "dead".

I never said you couldn't go back from "dead" to "alive".  My point was that at any given time, if you have a definition of "dead" you're either one or the other.

Ah, semantics.  If you can change the definitions of the words, you can do anything while accomplishing nothing.

Are we now following the rules of the Red Queen, who argued that words should mean what she intended them to mean, nothing more and nothing less.

All true.
But I'm not arguing definitions.  The definition of death you choose has nothing to do with my point  All I'm saying is, whichever one you pick, it either applies, or it doesn't.

Fair enough, though I would say that it's integral to the definition of death, in the real world sense, that someone who is dead- not just clinically, but fully dead, has reached a state from which there is no return, or atleast from which medical science has no record of successful ressucitation.  This is an elusive target.

As with many things in life, while the threshold itself isn't easily found, it's usually pretty easy to classify on which side of it most things are, and I'll concede that much to you. :P

I think Dan's going to need to change his robes.

If I put enough grains of sand on a table, it becomes a heap.  Are you arguing that no matter what my definition of a heap, the grouping of sand grains either is or isn't a heap?  In that case, wouldn't there have to be some point where adding one grain of sand would make something that is less than a heap into a heap of sand.  (I believe that this was discussed by Aristotle.)

There are some things, such as ethical versus unethical, good versus evil, beauty versus ugly, etc., where there are no easy distinctions,

I don't think that doctors believe that there is a firm definition of death.  They just keep working until the patient is restored to a degree of health or is unequivocally dead.

That's one of those things where the definition leaves a fuzzy or gray boundary between the two states. Is it a heap or not? How thick can you make soup before it becomes stew? How much color and flavor can you add to water before you call it coffee, tea or whatever instead of colored water? Lots of times, it's up to personal interpretation
