I'm just wondering if folks would be interested in copying an idea from the Katbox forums?
Over in the Katbox forums (you can find it yourself, I'm not linking it) the users have been known to create what are called user-bars and user-boxes that they display in their sigs. Below is a sample of a user-bar and some user-boxes. I was just wondering if folks were interested in maybe doing that for the various comics forums that are hosted here at CMF.
The ones below aren't the only types of bars/boxes that can be made but are simply there because they're the ones I'm using from the Katbox. I would, of course, mention to them that I was going to bring this idea over if enough people are interested here as I don't want any bad blood. What do you guys think?

To express ones liking of characters in a comic here on clockworkmansion.
For instance, I love matilda so I could have a matilda fan bar in my sig.
on katbox they take it one step further with 1# fans. ( I would like to be Matilda's number 1 fan :3 )

A Characterbar for each character ( or at least the more prominent ones ) in each comic on CMF. At least, that is what they do at Katbox. ( and they do have a lot of characters there... mostly thanks to LL )
Katbox uses the images from the comics itself and of course from images on which the characters appear, I ripped the first bunch off the character/profile page of Missmab. Haven't yet started looking for images at the other comics yet. ( sorry darkmoon ;) )
Shouldn't be hard for someone to do custom ones for CVRPG. All the sprites are available on the site, and backgrounds are easy to come by (hit the links in CVRPG if you're looking for ideas).

Seconded on both counts. With regard to PF, some of the cast pages are old and ratty - I really need to bug Ren to upgrade them at some point. As with Turnsky, I can provide high res text-free renditions of all characters upon request.
Hey Tytaj, how'd you make those bars? I think I want to make some too, but I want to follow the same style you have going on.

I just copied the edges and the word ''fan''
Then on a lower layer I put the images after resizing them ( 41:121 Pixels ) then I save it as PNG so that there are no additional artifacts ( since the DMFA comics are saved in jpeg )
To do this I use gimp, albeit it could be done in Paint as well. ( just not with layers ) :3

She uses Photoshop. You might want to try exporting the multilayer of one as a PSD file and providing that as a template - unless you do something weird that Photoshop can't handle, (like additive layers) it usually works quite well.

I would like to point out that we should keep the size fairly standard. The ones that Katbox uses are 50x125 pixels, I'd suggest keeping ours in that range too. A little tip: try to keep you selection for the image a multiple of this. That way, when you resize it, you've got a better chance of keeping the aspect the way it should be. So aim for selections that are 50x125, 100x250, 150x375 etc. I've done a few that were wide (100x125) and they look alright, but I'd save that for something special, personally. I'd also suggest trying to avoid ones with text in the base image as it clutters up the image and likely won't be readable anyways (though I will admit that some times leaving it in can be good for comedic value or for recognition sake).

There, got them working. Up through the "B"s so far. I'll tinker with some more in a couple. See how many I can get. Once nice thing is I have all the artwork needed for these on my compy.
Feel free to use. CVRPG has plenty of band, but if you're going to use these elsewhere from CMF< do try to host them on your own image dump before wandering the nets.

Well, in all theory we could fix that. Just tell me which posts to keep and which to delete and we can clean that right up.
Don't delete any, yet. I'll go edit them once I've re-hosted all the images. Which is delayed because of work, and renaming all of them to shorter names, and writing a page to list them.
Speaking of, if someone wants to design a page to hold them all, I'd be interested. I'm planning on simply broken up into relevance (ie, CVRPG, DMFA, LR, etc), then by author, then by sub-type in Tytaj's case... If anyone has any better suggestions, speak up.
I was planning to host at least my CVRPG ones on CVRPG as well in the downloads section. Let me know when your page is up and I'll link over to it for other fan contributions.

They tend to change shape a little anyhow during the comic. If it needs to be redone for the wiki, point me to a good shot of it (I can't find one at the moment) and I'll sort it out sometime. For Taun, I just drew a circle and then a smaller one overlaid on it.

I think comic 218 when she jumps at Merlitz is the best pic you can find.
My stupid - gimp does not have shapes i know of which is making me stupid...--- i will improve the thing in xpaint (dumb, dumb me)
EDIT: there it is - both versions - i kept to the original outline while improving the circular shape

Ah. For that, use the ellipse tool (E). It will give you a circular selection, which you can then flood-fill. Pressing shift during the flood-fill will cause it to block-colour the entire selection. That's how I made Taun etc.

The reason why I did so many was simply because people tend to enjoy uniqueness, with a larger amount of images one can more easily fashion a unique set of images. Heck, I doubt anyone will use Xander, Blank or Fluffy, at least not in a short period of time, of course this is subverted by my mentioning them and people we want to be rebels doing it just to spite me. x3

I notice there's a few missing characters. Like in Project Future we have Jakob's fake angel identity, but not Jakob himself. Also missing Dorcan. I think there's a few fans for him. And Ren also makes an appearance even if it's not in canon.
That does also allow me to mention, if, after I'm doing doing the characters I can think of, there are any poses or characters not covered that you'd like to see, just let me know. I'd be happy to make extras (that also goes for any of the alphabetical characters/character poses I've skipped over already. I can easily add them in).

I can upload a version of the template I made for CVRPG. It has the color border stored as a separate fill layer with a mask. Makes life easy.

I am willing to provide the template, for what it is worth, however I should note that I kept to Katboxes default and did not separate the white border from the black border.
I myself find it more pleasant to the eye to have the same border colour for all pictures, It gives me a carnaval feeling seeing all those border colours next to another. :U It seems a bit messy and unorderly in my opinion. but, meh.
I've been using the GIMP version of the one that Sage Freehaven provided that was later hosted by one of the tech team for Katbox. It, by default, has the shine on it and unfortunately has it linked to the border. I should probably figure out how to get rid of that as the shine I think doesn't work on all of the ones I've done.

Sorry, I was just expressing my personal feelings on the looks of coloured borders, I was aware that the characters all have another font colour, however I still felt like I had to explain why I did not go into colouring my borders myself.

One or two seems fine, but we are already overloading the thread with images as it is. I'm just suggesting going a bit easy on the multiples..not saying to not do them, just to not go too crazy. We have the fan bars so you can show you're a fan of the character. You don't need to create a bunch of fanbars of them to show it.

They're not all on the same page, so it hardly matters, doesn't it?

That's only one of the two points I covered, and yes, it's a minor one, but the plan was to host these somewhere eventually. The main point is that the bars are designed to show that you are a fan of the character. Creating multiple ones of that character, in retrospect, seems redundant. Again, I'm not suggesting to NOT do it. Just don't go too crazy with it. We don't need 100+ Dan bars. We could probably make them as there are 100's of pictures of Dan through out the comic. It's not really necessary though.

After all it would just be a matter of typing '<ahref= etc.'' and hosting a separate page of images. People are generally creatures who want to be unique, therefore don't like to have to exactly same picture of a character as someone else to establish their uniqueness. Of course not all people are like this, but many people will not want to follow in the ''copycat'' behaviour and be different.
Then why use a fanbar at all? That's just copycat behavior. In fact, this is just a big copycat from the Katbox.

But it's also a vibe! and to go with the vibe is cool but being unique in going with it make you awesomer because you are unique but not beyond actually showing your appreciation for characters in the webcomics, of course you would never just use the most generic crap that everyone uses, no you are better than that you will use one of the pictures hardly anyone uses as to make clear that you are not a generic douche but a person of great imagination, who is not to misdeed a good idea when she or he runs into it but gives it his or her won swing~~

Smoother would be nice, but you should have seen my expression when I saw that in Lonewolf's signature just now :3
What software did you use to make it? Gimp, Photoshop etc usually have an interpolation setting, so when you scale it down it will smooth it out for you. If it's set to "NONE" on Gimp, it won't bother and will look blocky like that. (Which is sometimes useful).
Gimp will also default to using no interpolation if it's an 8-bit image, promoting it to RGB (Image->Mode->RGB) will fix that though.

More of a group effort, really. Shadrok designed it originally, I redrew it in a slightly simplified form for the wiki. I have a feeling that the version I use in the comic was redrawn by Sid in SVG format, but I could be wrong.

So this version should be a bit smoother. And no need to hurry with the collection, I was just wondering =)
I used Paint Shop Pro X. And it smoothed it out on its own, but somehow it seemed way to blurry to me and from the last time I did something artsy/symbol-like at tiny sizes I remebered that "repixeling" helped countering the blurriness. Well, I like this version better xD
And maybe I can help with collecting all the bars (or reupload them on imageshack, or tinyurl, or whatever you could need help with)?

=) yep, I like this last one best. And I'd assume different version exist for almost every clan symbol. Amber has changed them herself a lot (I simply consider the ones on the clan leader pages as the currently correct versions). They also vary with viewing angle and the way the skin might be bended or strechted or whatnot.

There's nothing stopping anyone from putting anything in a fan bar, realistically. I personally would rather have it stick to stuff related to the forum, at a bare minimum and would rather have them all at a nice uniform size but really, it's your sig: Put whatever you want in it.

Are you hitting enter after each one (and thus putting them in a new line)? If so, that might be the problem, they all need to have only a space between them (maybe not even that). Beyond that, I couldn't say.

Why did I reupload them? Well, as I said, they are slightly edited. They are all standardized, all have the black-white border, and the "Familiar" is always in the exact same position. All of them are also in .png-format, as those don't have the blurriness the .jpg-ones easily get. I don't believe people will switch to the new ones, but once we have a collection, maybe it will be usefull.

Maybe... just maybe... not all of us want to be Cubi-like and belong to a clan... Maybe some of us want to belong to some other race? I'm just wondering if there's interest in race-familiar bars (I'd go join the Mythos and Phoenix :3) and if you'd rather like to see symbols or pictures there. If I was at home, I wouldn't ask, but just post some ideas, but it will take another 4-6 hours before I'm home...
Well, it's certainly not impossible. Did you have some images that you would like to use to represent these races? Also, what text would you suggest? I don't have time to work on them right now as I'm at work, but if we get this stuff out of the way now, when I get home tonight I can take a crack at it. Assuming that Taj isn't all over this by the time I even finish posting this. :P
The ideas that come to my mind right now are more a combination of symbol and picture: for demons and angels I'd somehow try to get use their wings and some kind of bones for the undeads. The ideas I like best are for Fae and Mythos: The Fae one features a cup with glowing antennae and the caption "My tea just turned into a baby". The Mythos one is just eyes all over the bar (my mind sees only green and pink eyes oO xD).
If it's just symbols like the clan-marks I'd try to go for something monochromatic though.
The symbols would have to be created, as I don't recall any kind of race-symbol in the comic. Pictures could be from the Demo. 101 pages. Oh I wish our Uni-PCs had Photoshop xD
Oh and I'd keep the "Familiar" at the bottom.
But these are just ideas. My main goal would be to have them at the same level of quality and design (so either go for only symbols or only Demo 101 pictures or whatever else).
The captions generally have to be short, so the one you suggested for the Fae probably wouldn't work. As for the rest, the biggest issue is having someone *create* the art to be used so it's more than likely just stuff from Demo 101 would be used.. The ones up until now were just chopped out of stuff that Amber has already done (for the most part, the others were of fairly simple design).
Mao, your sig says the avatar art is done by Mab, but Sindra wasn't one of her characters. Attribution for that should go to Jorge D. Fuentes.

Hmm, if there's no spaces between the pictures there would be exactly 10 bars fitting in those 500 pixels, as each is 50 pixels wide. Else he could just split them in two pictures with 5 bars ;)

I likee all of this, but I find myself lost as to HOW to put these in your sig. Do you simply use the image code?

Linking to them is the same as displaying images in your messages. Please make sure have have read the rules (http://clockworkmansion.com/main.php?page=rules) about signature images. Using the image links in your sig only requires you to add .[img] [./img] around the urls to make them appear. ( remove the . infront of .[img] )
You can upload them onto
photobucket (http://photobucket.com/) or even better
Tinypic (http://tinypic.com/) using the provided urls (hyperlinks). You can also use the images on Llearch's servers directly,
however they are for use only on this forum.

How do I put the userbars/userboxes in my signature? *is new and curious*
In order to put an image into your signature, you simply have to type this into your signature (available in your profile settings):
[img]<img url here>[/img]
Get the url of the image and put it in where indicated and voila! For a quick example:
[img]http://llearch.net/fb/aar.png[/img]
would yield:
(http://llearch.net/fb/aar.png)
You can use our other tags such as center, italics and bold in your signature as well. :)
