What was that at the top about this being bizarro week?  Also, interesting change of facial markings/colorings on horse boy.  Have to say, don't remember seeing or hearing of mab ever being even close to that angry before.  VERY scary!

The good thing about being royalty (soon to be Mab that is) is that you can legally call impaling someone with a spear an act or war. The bad thing is that the person Mab is impaling won't die from it...

His hair changes as well. I would guess that it was the shock of being stabbed from behind, and then the irritation that goes with it.
I wonder if Fae feel pain.

This is officially the most incensed Mab I have every seen. And let me tell you, she looks terrifying. Stabbing a guy in the back, with a spear, is so far the most violent thing Amber has shown us. Bravo, and I want my mommy.

Also why does this comic seem like the end of a commercial

Yea, Mab does seem a little upset.... Her little forehead stone even seems a little redder then usual. Wasn't she the one that said she hated violence? The situation must really call for it.

Albanion is like one of those doll... thingies. His hair changes color depending on the surrounding temperature. Mood Pony. He also seems to have lost that fine necklace of his.

Speaking of mood pony:

I love those little details. His hand going on the fritz like a TV, his antenna sparkles turning into bulls-eyes, his mane going from a splochy pattern to a stripped pattern. Actually, with the stripes showing, one has to wonder if he is actually base-zebra or something.

What strikes me is more interesting is in the third panel, after he recovers his wit how his entire pallet has shifted noticeably. The violet tail/mane, and the yellow tips to his wings (which are also darker) and the yellow antenna sparkles. Also notable is that his cheek marking is not only a darker purple, but a kinda gothy double down spike from his eye instead of a squarish block on his cheek.

One has to wonder if this is the look of the Albanion of legend that caused the destruction of the Mythos race.

Sorry for the entirely useless over analysis, I just love details like that. :)

BTW: Mab seems a tad peeved. Maybe even worse than "blew my glade up" peeved. I think I'll chip into the "reach minimum safe distance" camp.
Title: Re: 5/19/07 - This Are Serious Comic
Post by: Fuyudenki on May 19, 2007, 12:06:38 AM
I think the zebra stripes on Albanion's fingers are his color-changing effects going nuts because having a spear thrust through one's chest tends to be a tad painful.

Also, I would suspect Mab isn't using the Voulge because she totally doesn't have the class skill to use that (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_719.php). :P

But yes, it appears someone's angry.

Seems to me that since a Fae can't die unless they feel like it, playing real life games of Doom or Halo or something are a good clean way of having fun while enjoying being outside! At least you'd be able to get exercise while shooting each other and running around blowing stuff up.

:mowninja

Can you tell I got BF2 recently? :p

And yes, Mab seems to be at the point where those that cannot decide not to die when injured should likley flee. :)

This comic was clearly meant to be a trap to get me to wake someone up to discover that I've snuck on the computer with wild laughter.  Joke's on you, though.  If I can drop several CDs without disturbing anyone, I can laugh without doing so.

Maybe this is where Mab can strike at the heart of the situation. She wanted to go on adventure. She is called to do her duty in the Fae kingdom. She has a long term chip on her shoulder with a few fae, and has to get back. She can partly solve these problems by getting hold of a few of her friends at Lost Lake, and have them follow her through the fae gate in Dan's room. It has possibilities as a plot, and I just want to see how much damage and carnage, Mab, Wildy, and the others could do in an assasination type of auction ...   :mowninja

I will say this.  Of all the charactors in DMFA Mab is the most dangerous when angry.
Allow me to explain.

1-in the blink of an eye she can completely destroy a specific area of land.
2-when she's angry she can go from calm to psycotic is 0.2 seconds flat.
3-when she attacks she gives no warning (what some would call a "tell").
4-when Mab attacks she goes for the decisive attack on the first move (well it would have been decissive for anyone other than a fae).

I am now starting to think that Pip is there as a first line of defense.  Poor Albanion, what's worse Pip's teeth or Mab's aresonal (she has to have an aresonal considering she's gone on numerous adventures with Dan).

Oh and Albanion's hair has been changing colors ever since he's made an apearance.  The decoration under his eye changed it's shape in the last pannel so I really think the spear hurt.

Mab did Pip growleys. :mowtongue

Can I be the first to say that Albanion's color-changing ability is ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN' AWESOME? It beats mood-changing eyes by a longshot. Honestly, he looks great in that last panel for someone who is in severe pain and/or shock (judging by his expression, he looks to be a rather deadly combination of irritation and agony). I especially like how his colors went all wonky after he got stabbed. Akin to the static on someone's TV screen.

I would assume so.  I mean, look at his face when the spear goes "CHOONK."  I would say that is representing pain.

As to Fae bleeding, I think fae are only physical when they want to be.  Sort of like beings from a higher dimension, their bodies in this world are only as real as they want them to be.

Also, people would read way too much into it. In fact, it would come to represent an entire subplot that would spawn such hackneyed fanfics that you'd be forced to curl up in a corner, shiver for a while and, I imagine, eventually have a blanket gently laid over you by a kind-hearted otter.

See, otters make everything better.

That boy has a nasty habit of changing his colourings every other comic, and apparantly sometimes even once per panel...

A spear, obviously. Since a hatchet you would most likely have to dig some form of hole, while a spear you can simply shove directly down into the ground with enough force.
And I think if you have the strength to shove something through a person's torso, you have the strength to plough something through the ground.

oh yes

Yeah.  Albanion's tye-dye!

While I agree that it's easier to drive a spear into the ground than dig a hole for a hatched, I'd have to disagree on the strength required.  The ground around here can be exceptionally tough(to the degree that a lot of the city I live in is undeveloped, because even expensive earth-moving equipment isn't sufficient to break ground), and I recall a story about some guy being stabbed by the butt of another guy's spear, which went right through him.  While the human body is surprisingly more durable than it at first seems, it's still quite fragile.

By comparison, there's a reason "solid ground" is referred to as "solid."

I agree with the strength required to dig through the ground's vast toughness, but I think that it still takes strength to drive a spear clear through a person's torso (especially with the butt of the spear :erk). Obviously, you should know that meat is tough material when raw...

Goes back to the whole "Fae choose when it is their time to die" conversation I suppose. Looks like Fae are pretty immortal until they are damn good and ready to die.

Well, Fae are practically creatures of pure magic, right? So it would obviously take something that could disrupt that magic completely to kill one. Then there's that whole limited number thing, too. Maybe if that number changes the universe starts hiccuping because a constant changed.

And anyone who's coded knows that constants can't change. Bad things happen.

Hm, if they are pure magic, which they seem to be, then the only way to kill one would be to use the magic(i.e. drain it away), However, being as a Fae seems to be composed of *QUITE* alot of energy, you would have quite a problem of storing or getting rid of said energy - Perhaps you could get a few hundred 'Cubi to tri-wing status with the energy.

And while if constants change, bad things do happen, all you need to do is recode and recompile the source for the universe, that should take care of it. :rolleyes

True, although the consequences of doing such, even if it were possible, would probably be... interesting and best viewed from a safe distance.

Also, the universe does not like rebooting, unless there is a ratio of one costumed superhero/supervillian for every million regular individuals. At which point the reset switch not only functions, but offers an 'alternative reality (now with blue jell-o!) enabled!' setting.  :spidey :batman

Ah, a set number of Fae souls is possibly there to insure that each Fae has just the right amount of magic energy to be Fae, but also not too much magic that they would become unbalanced/insane and/or explode, which would cause a change reaction as the magic energy exploding outwards would be adsorbed by all nearby Fae.  They would become unstable or produce offspring, whichever they can manage to do to keep from exploding themselves.

As for rebooting a Universe, it will rewrite the laws of physic and this time maybe magic will harder to find.  and and I will see you at the Big Bang restaurant at the end line.

Ah, the good old critical Fae theorem. And they said I was mad when I proposed making a bomb out of Faes! Cries of "It'll never work!" "You're being mean" and "What the hell is this topping?" were said to me and they cut my funding, but dreams of the Fae-bomb will live on!

Soon my evil plans for world domination will be realized!

Really? I could have sworn he was the iconic cartoon spokesperson for a certain striped gum. That gum was cool too, damn you bubblicious and your devil watermelon...... :shifty

But seriously, Albanion can't be Nutmeg, he's just a harmless shrubbery that has a serious dislike of yo-yos.  ;)

It has to come out of a boot to be a shank. If she made it in prison, it would be a shiv, not a shank.

Well her boots are too small for it to be a shank, and exile is not technically prison, so I'm gonna go out here and say its a spear.

It's already well established that there's no shoes in DMFA, but that doesn't mean she can't pull it out of a "Shoe" brand dimensional pocket.

Someone would use the name, after all. There's only so many copyrights...  :mowhappy

No, it has to be a real-ass boot, seeing as a "shank" is actually a functional part of a boot. It's not the name that matters.
