...does this mean Pip is some sort of mythos, now? Or are drakes simply misunderstood?

Shockingly, I am not as surprised as I think I should be.
Mab also seems a bit more wise than Amber has made her out to be in the past. Or that could just be her role in this world. Fae tend to confuse me that way.
I'm lost :C
Does that mean that the drakes are role playing as well as the fae? Or is Pip even really a drake?
I totally picture Pip with a British accent, for some reason.
And the Academy Award for best supporting actor goes to... Pip.

Maybe he's really
ANIZ IN DISGUISE. :U
More seriously, maybe he's a fae in disguise. :B (Or maybe it's just that drakes can really talk, if you can understand their language--ie, if you are a fae.)
In other news, hurrah for the zany arc!

I bet he's the father. :rolleyes
i think pip and mab have always been able to communicate speaking wise......pip just chooses not to out of simplicity and talking to the others ( anyone other than mab) might be unneccessary. I wonder if Pip's natural dislike for Dan because he is of the Cyra (sp?) Clan......
pip speaks, now that's a plot twist...

Pip may be speaking now, but my mouth is moving without words coming out.

Nobody likes to find out that they've been manipulated, even if it is for their own good. My feeling is that Pip and Mab are concerned how Jyrras and Dan will feel when they find out how they've been manipulated. Another thought that I just had is to wonder whether Wildy is also being manipulated or whether she might be one of the people involved in the manipulation.
....
Whaaaaaaa?!?
*gets over it*
Actually, Pip has always seemed to be able to communicate, jus in hisown language. Mab always seemed to understand him. This is just Amber tantalizingly dropping another narrative curtain.
I'm not saying that wasn't effective, though.
Quote from: Naldru on November 29, 2007, 10:42:18 PMAnother thought that I just had is to wonder whether Wildy is also being manipulated or whether she might be one of the people involved in the manipulation.

I love this Amber....All though this probley was so not forseen well enough..Fa'Lina couldnt probley catch a glimpce of what madness you prepare on this night. And for your Questions from the Readers pages....I got a few to toss at you!
Dear Amber,
Your an awesome gal and I have a few questions for you
1. What brings you into life each morning wake?
2. Do you like monkeys?
3. Is Abel still made at me?
4. What is your quest?
5. When is the best time for a hug?
Love your friend,
Zedd
Although he's always been able to communicate with Mab, it's awesome to hear from Mab's perspective. :)
*jaw drops regardless*
Oh, I just remembered a question I've had for awhile for Amber...
Do you ever pan on giving any significant attention in-comic to the lesser-known races sometime in the future, specifically the Insectis and the Mer? Possibly even introducing a real character for them? Or maybe a few of the other races?
...Wow. :U
Maaan, now I really want to know the plan.
I just managed to swallow my water instead of spitting it out. I think it's like a defensive reflex or something, I've got a million of 'em.
That said. What. The. Eyetwitchy. :erk
Oh dear GAWD :U Pip speaks!
:erk Huh?!
(reads again) Huh?!?!
(reads a third time) HUH?!?!?!
So wait... Pip can speak. He wants Mab and Dan to end up together, or something like that, and he can SPEAK?!?!
(head-->knees) (I sit very L-ish..)
for some reason, i picture Samuel Jackson doing the voice for pip :mowdizzy
A dragon is a dragon regardless of size and pip has shown his intellect before even if this is the first time we the readers has actually understood him. still it makes me wonder why does he want Dan to dislike /hate him?
i know that some dragons define their lives by an obsession but or they draw power form some form of emotional empathy ( if rage and anger in Eilander's case )
But what does pip get form annoying Dan and almost everyone that gets close to Mab?
At first i though he was just hording her attention but now i don't think that that is quite it?
Now that the initial shock has worn off, I would like to put forward that Mab is the Fae in question.
I'm not sure exactly what my reasoning is, but I see a possible link here (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_062.php), and I therefore invoke the Phoenix Wright strategy: present something that seems related and hope the creators had something in mind.
But this time...
It's not a game. :U
... I always wondered. I'm kind of impressed. I think I like Mab even more as a character now.
As far as Pip, a lot of things seem to make more sense now. Pip is worried about making Dan DISLIKE Mab...? And suddenly it's clear as day. Pip's herding Dan like a sheep dog, keeping Dan out of Mab's hair while she handles her plans... so that Dan cannot adequately concentrate enough on Mab in any intellectually sufficient capacity to detect what she is doing. Because if Dan knew how deep Mab's roots went... he'd be brandishing the woodcutter's ax right now.
...Amber, I think that this has been engaging enough for now... Too much story is going to burn me out x.x I know that I for one would be very happy if you just did a silly antics arc or maybe a sort of 'day in the life' arc.... something that shows us a little more about Lost Lake, how it's laid out, the geography, the surrounding lands, that sort of thing. I would absolutely adore a reference like that. And... it would be an incredible experience to see just how much it has changed from the way it was in the Dream..
Another thing that would be a great time-waster would be to give the readers a glimpse at present-day REAL lost lake. A whole reality-skip for maybe ten or fifteen pages.
Aw dangit, now I feel the need to go back there and see it... *logs on furc, grumblemutter*
...I can tell you it would at least be interesting. Real Lost Lake is a much darker place.

8) What else about Pip will we learn ? Does Pip have Pipettes ?
Heh, it has been a while since I've posted on this particular forum ;p
The only problem that I have with Pip speaking like Sean Connery is the that last sentence. I don't think Connery would use 'dislike' over 'hate'.
That said, maybe a 'set the askers of questions on fire' marathon would be fun? I've been running one for at least a year or two around these parts and it has been fun.

FYI.
It's not baiting, it's an educated guess at possible replies. In any case, familiars do naturally grow in intelligence alongside spellcasters, and are perfectly capable of communicating with their masters, even if they can't do it with anyone else.
In regards to the comic, I'm a little confused by what Pip meant. Was he trying to make Dan hate him more than Mab? We haven't even seen Dan's reaction to the news of what exactly went down.
I also vote Pip having the voice of Christopher Walken.
Did he... and then.... but he... Pip he just.... whaa???? *foams at the mouth*

"::Capable of another D&D reference, waits to see if Zina spazzes out again::" Sounds an awful lot like baiting to me, Mana.
If you want to make D&D references, then there's not a whole lot I can do other than roll my eyes. But if I get the impression that you're only doing it in order to see if I'll "spazz out", then that's baiting and I will take action.
Especially since I don't remember the last time I "spazzed out" over a D&D reference you made. In fact, I think the last person mentioned anything about them was Damaris, not me.
Note that we've never really seen Mab and Pip alone together in the comic, at least not when Mab is open for motivation building.
As for you Zina, I speak metaphorically. You certainly give an irked reply over it everytime I do it.
I certainly don't have you in mind when I first started, but you've managed to shove yourself into the spotlight of the whole issue.
Frankly, you could always say nothing and let the discussion continue, or we can start taking two shots whenever you show signs of gripage over my posts. It's your choice.

Honestly, Mana, I'm not very fond of you essentially taking shots at me and then telling me to say nothing in response. Posting with the intent of picking fights is against the rules, and I'm starting to think that's exactly what you had in mind.

My only guess is that Pip was just attacking Dan to try to lessen the amount of dislike after this all happens. I wonder, is Mab really as naive as she looks half the time, or is it really all an act?

On second thoughts the plot twists in the latest arc are so vast, I think our present knowledge of non-euclidian geometry in inadequate to describe them.
This makes me ask, "Which version of Pip is this?"
http://www.mabsland.com/PipKawaii.html (http://www.mabsland.com/PipKawaii.html)
Exhibit 1:
Quote(SIDE NOTE: Please note that this version of Pip is NOT in accordance to the Pip of DMFA but is of a different story alltogether. In the scheme of things, Pip is to me like Cid is to Final Fantasy. He exsists in both.)
And seeing as how the Fae can commute to the Mabsland World, this could definitely be either Pip. Or, maybe there is a rift of DMFA Pip vs. Mabsland Pip!
Conspiracy ftw!
Ehhh!?

And I agree with the choice of Liam Neeson.

Considering Amber's objection to the DMFA radio project because she didn't want to impose her own choice over other people's imaginings of names**, I'm quite shocked about that old posting. Although I agree with the voice in that audio, that sounds pretty good when listened to while looking at that panel with Pip speaking.
**- If I misinterpreted that I appologize, feeling too lazy to go try and find where that was said.
Here was my train of thought after reading that strip:
"Hmm, well I guess that makes sense. Pip was just trying to keep Dan off Mab's back so she could... OMG! Pip talked! *explosion*." :mowdizzy
:wtf
in PIP's profile it does say he knows multiple languages. So it's not that big of a surprise that he knows a common-speak language.
What really surprises me is what pip said, "Dan disliking Mab more."
Considering their history even including the "Fae Curse" and the fact that Dan acts like a Fae from time to time one would think it would take a really big event to make Dan dislike Mab.
She was one of the Dan rescue party who went to a Cubi infested school to rescue Dan. I can't see how he can be upset at her for anything if she did that.
Pip's words make my brain hurt.

My question for Amber. Is Jyrras gay or bi?
How is Array's new job at SAIA going?
Now the question is if Mab is in league with Destina to destroy the dragon race, working against her to save them or working on something completely unrelated?

Well, considering it says in Pip's profile that drakes are intelligent and that they can speak several different languages, I shouldn't be surprised. But I am. Awesome work!

Probably because Nutmeg didn't want to risk pissing her off again, so just Jy and Lorenda got the rainbow hair. Or possibly because Mab's also a fae she can use her fae magic to counter Nutmeg's.
Nutmeg said rainbows for everyone but she didn't say how or where. Mab's home could be covered in rainbows now for all we know.

*recovers from shock of Pip speaking* so ALL of Dan's feathers fall out when he eats shell fish, this raises a question, a cubi's lower feathers are also wing tentacles, extra limbs, so if one loses these extra limbs.... they must grow back, but do they become tentacles when they are detached, is it like losing an arm since they are technically limbs?

Keep in mind Abel and Aaryanna both are able to make wing tentacles and they don't have large feathers. Dan can pluck all his feathers out and still have wing tentacles. The fact they look like they are from his feathers is simply aesthetic. Any other day, his feathers are just feathers.

I pity Jy more. Everyone picks on him. He should send his evil lawyer of doom mother on those evil people.
Everything could be part of Mab's plan... the whole Dark Pegasus episode... Jy meeting Lorenda... even the Pokecraze!
Wait... if I put it all together there seems to be some sort of hidden mathematical code which tells the story of the dark god's origin and Mab's secret society of Faeluminti and the Knights Ti'Fiona!
*Charles soon publishes "The Amber Code"... followed by it's sequel "Amber Alert"*

James Woods as Pip...Yeah..Now I am thinking like that
If no one said Tay Zonday yet...then Tay Zonday. The way he spoke so eloquently made me think that smooth and sexy baritone would be delightful to hear coming from him. :mowninja
Also, MY GODS!! I feel so sorry for anyone who just began to read this comic on this arc, this strip in particular.

I'm not even sure the Pokecraze was cannon to the story since it was back when DMFA was set in Furcadia... I think.
I guess thats the extent of a fae's power though, breaking reality even when that reality was not even real
*Delurks* I think this is more hearing Pip speaking from Mab's point of view, for the sake of plot-twisting fun. :)
Secondarily, Mab understanding Pip is nothing new. Remember this? http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_496.php This is just the first time we readers have understood him (which I believe has already been pointed out).
As for questions. . . Are we going to see Merlitz' old adventuring group come back to Lost Lake to "confront the Cubi" only to discover Alexi no longer reeks of magic and Dan the Great Adventurer is staying there (since they didn't see him the last time)? It would be fun for confusing them, anyway. And is Merlitz going to be meeting up with them at all? :3
Also, when is Kria going to encounter Abel, and will there be recognition? She'll probably see him eventually, since she's spying on Jyrras and he goes to Lost Lake a lot. ^_^
*goes back to lurking*
That is the second biggest fly agaric i have ever seen.... check the other side for bitemarks

Also, getting replied to from a mod gave you two awesome points.
Thanks! I knew there was someone here that would get all four pop culture references, including the clumsy Transformers one. If I haven't introduced myself in 8 months, then just keep in mind that I make horrible puns over on the Napping Cat's Dream, too, my main forum.
That doesn't mean that I can't occasionally come up with insightful and clever posts, just that puns come easier to me.
Pip faking his hatred of Dan? I wonder why? Could Pip be involved in the Anti-Dragon plot with Destania and Biggs? What kind of plot could Mab be involved in that can't be solved with an over-dose of Fae Magic? It's obvious that Amber is referencing this comic (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_833.php), but who is she missing? Dan's dad? Abel's real dad? And how is this supposed to save Dan, especially since the Albanion-protective-bracelet is on Jyrras? Could it be that one of Jyrras's inventions, or future inventions, which the Council-that-Alb's-on is interested in? Could it be that "Mab's friend," who is likely to be Albanion, be who cursed Dan before, and since the nature of his unhappiness is generally not well known, makes most creatures think that he's still out for Fae retribution? Of the people in the inn, Dan and Jyrras are the least able to protect themselves, irregardless of Dan's adventuring days.
What is Mab grooming Dan for? The end of the Dragons, and the interests of their families? Could Dan be some sort of prophesied Dragon-slayer, with the sword he got from Matilda? And why would Pip be concerned for Mab, and possibly her safety? Perhaps because Mab is on OPPOSITE sides of the conflict with Destania and Biggs?
One answer, hundreds more questions...

I just realized something. Since Azlan is a fae, this implies that Pip is capable of injuring fae. Unless Azlan's fear is part of just normal play-acting.

My question for Amber. Is Jyrras gay or bi?
Does it really matter?
It matters to your fans.
Until Amber decides, Jy is sort of like Schrodinger's cat: both until the box is opened and Amber reveals her opinion.
If you're writing fanfic (even if only in your mind), he can be in love with rutabagas or kumquats if you want him to be.

Didn't Wednesday say almost the same line in the last scene of Adams Family Values? I remember what happened to the person she said it to.

Could very well be, lest we forget Demo 101 telling us: One thing of note is that many Fae(likely due to the fact they live so long) will often play roles and take on a story as if in a theatre play. Choosing a life of adventurer, lover, savage, they will set themselves into certain guidlines and limits to play out according to their chosen field.
Azlan has taken on the role of an adventurer, yes? And they are crunchy to drakes. Or is that squishy. Tasty? It's some sort of -y!

Ha ha, by request, Darc re-uploaded exactly what I was looking for:

They're not as wide, so you can't see the glare. Makes them look a bit darker, but otherwise they seem to be the same.
also the fact that we're looking him dead in the face this time instead of form the side.
Given that Abel has a soft spot for Jyrras, I wonder how he's going to react to the curse-mark?
that's a good question. i wonder if we'll see his reaction in the comic
i sdupose it would be like seeing your freind come too scool with a black eye
A black eye that you know you can do nothing about, because if you try to do anything, you'll just get hit even harder than they were going to anyway. :mowmeep
and it will probably make things worse
All things considered, he'd notice the rainbow hair first, then maybe the curse-mark. Or maybe he'll just ignore both, in his regular, sarcastic, I-don't-care fashion. :P

Remember how he came down hard on Wildy over the book? I think he'd be less than happy about it. Not that he can do anything, and as Dan has pointed out it can be something of a blessing.

Maybe he's really ANIZ IN DISGUISE. :U
More seriously, maybe he's a fae in disguise. :B (Or maybe it's just that drakes can really talk, if you can understand their language--ie, if you are a fae.)
In other news, hurrah for the zany arc!
I assure you I am not Pip.
Also, I vote for either William Shatner or Mr. T to voice Pip

yeah might do
it could go like this
"hi jy-jy hows the...whoa, err i thought you wanted to keep that little crush on Dan a secrete?"
"shut it"
"i mean the rainbow hair and jewellry? all you need now is a pink shirt and high heels...""
"Able I swear..."
Oh, man, MR. T would be awesome. Insted of "Kiii" Pip could start saying "Fool!"

I cracked up, personally. It helps to make a point of animating his lips.
(hovering behind Dan) "You're crazier than that fool Azlan!"
(general... or hovering behind Dan) "I pity the fool!"
(in response to this (http://www.rcsitravel.net/Journal/DrakesOnPlane.jpg)) "I ain't gettin' on no plane!"
