Ok, that snake looks like it has Beholder in its ancestry. Man, could you imagine glasses for that thing?

Hoooooly sniz! oO;
'Cubi aren't the only Creatures who can enter dreams, eh? First thing that said to me was Mythos there...though, I'd think one's dreams in Furrae aren't exactly safe with more than one lurking kind. :rolleyes

Yay! I thought that jagged line looked a bit odd.
I've always kind of wondered what sort of monsters exist in the DMFA world.
I guess they probably exist in the Mythos super-category...
In any case, larger pic plz :3
The Dream Larvae, the horrors that are born from the deepest recesses of twisted minds, and go from there.

I was just about to ask about the poor cubi's survival chances... I too would like to know what a dream larvae is...
It's a freaky-looking critter, resembling a dragon in basic (very basic) shape but not in overall appearance. It is also one of the freakier things I've seen in DMFA, although somewhat less so than the SAIA librarian.
While I can't say what might happen to her, it's a fair bet that the rest of her night is NOT going to be pleasant. If she lives through it, that is.

Hmm. ``terrors who escape dream into the waking world...large humanoid shapes composed of thousands of crawling larval worms...horns, a cruelly fanged mouth, four arms ending in claws, and four in pincers''
Maybe Manawolf is wrong?
Oh yeah..You wanted requests what to do next dont ya Amber...I say fashion!

The very first thing that popped into my head after reading this was an image from Ghastly's Ghastly Comic with the little Tentacle monster running around shouting "Tentacoo Wape..."
I know, I need help...
But first Dungeons and Dragons Online!
The particular critter is a Mythos (when I said they come in all types, I wasnt joking around), though I didnt base him off any concept other than my own...so I'd be cautious about comparing him to a D&D beastiary. Like the Librarian, this guy tends to have enough quirks about him that making too many comparisons will likely lead you into the way wrong idea.
Dream Larvae are also able to transform, usually into a person's worst fear, so they can take on just about any shape they wish in order to subdue their prey.
Eh, for now I just say she's lucky it isn't, because even someone like Falina may have trouble dealing with a dream larvae.
Many things can be born from dreams, I was just using one of the most nastiest ones as an example.
Obviously that is a rip off of Trogdor. Look at the beefy back arm!

Mana, that's like me breaking out the boggart from Harry Potter to compare to your Dream Larvae. They are completely unrelated, and the whole thing would be quite ridiculous.
Seriously. D&D is not the Bible. DMFA, for that matter, is not D&D. Save some money, and your poor Monster Manual's spine, and stop breaking out the book in subforums that do not relate to roleplaying.
Any more D&D influenced speculation and I will be forced to let Darkmoon have some fun. If you're frustrating me, then it's likely you're annoying others, and I doubt the other admins will argue much.

This is something I think we all can agree on =P It'd be just as annoying if I compared it to a Pokémon or something. Esoteric references for things outside of the DMFA universe ftl!
Anyway yeah, that creature is pretty friggin' awesome. I wonder if you can die in a dream since your physical body isn't there... or is it? Does the physical body remain in the real world?
Nothing to stop you going brain dead, if you never come back to your body, now, is there?
Physical body may well breath on for a bit, and then just stop.
As for the physical body being in dreams, I believe it's generally accepted (at least by the Furrae Chronicles folks) that it's a mental entry only. Of course, that doesn't say anything about what Amber has in mind, but it's a reasonable guess...
*Charles nods in agreement* It's silly to compare that creature to anything from D&D or Pokemon.
It's obviously a Digimon, and here's why...*assassin strike!* :knifed

I normally try to stay out of commenting on the comics, just enjoying them as Amber creates them...
But for the love of Mew Manawolf, would you knock it off trying to fit DMFA into your D&D world?
Can't you just bloody well accept that a Comic is a Comic and that it doesn't have to draw inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons?
It's gone beyond annoying that even now I'm commenting on your desire to pigeon hole DMFA into your own little world.
Do us a favor Manawolf, if you can't say anything about the comic that is NOT D&D releated, just don't post.
The Mythos there fascinates me to no end. It gives me tingles. I think it'd be very awesome to do something like a wallpaper of that creature as a donation incentive.
He's well drawn, too, Amber. Props.
It's a habit of some D&D nerds, they try to translate other things they like into D&D terms. Azlan gave it a shot back on the old forums with that RP he had, but it quickly drifted from Furrae into other territory.
I do realize that my musings are probably incongruent with Amber's own world of DMFA, but I feel I'm at least doing something rather than spurting out a simple "Oh, that's interesting."\
Besides, I find it also spurs Amber in providing a quicker explanation to straighten out the questions her readers may have.
Also, I don't need to crack open a book to say what I have to say. I save it for when someone may find interest in something beyond the realms of DMFA.

He *is* well drawn, on many levels.
I'm not sure, however, if this would work well as a wallpaper, since it would be essentially all white space. There are works of great art that are stupidly simple (take Piet Mondrian, for example) and there are works that take tons of effort but wind up being wholly without art (the phone book). I'm just not sure if I'd want something that has that much white space on my desktop.

Man, don't you hate it when someone is being totally obnoxious on a forum and several people, including a mod, tells them this and they don't offer an apology and instead get all defensive about it?
Anyway, I'd love a wallpaper of it IF there was one in black or something (that would look awesome!). I agree with the sentiment that there is too much white on the one in the mini-arc for it to make a good wallpaper.

yes. I do hate it. How often have I posted in the comic thread besides to make a snide comment or joke about the comic?
I had hoped that by stepping in and saying something would prompt some sort of positive reaction. On the other hand, I don't want to become a "Forum Police Officer." I'm not fond of the idea of getting pulled over by the Bill and Amber squad and made to pay for my crimes for being out of line by chewing out other forum goers.

Has Amber played Arx Fatalis? Because not only does the line it came out of look like the Arx summoning spell, but what was summoned looks a lot like the demons that the spell produces. (Gonna have to take some screenshots tonight!)

Hmm... some kind of dream-protecting mind shield, either as a spell or artifact, would strike me as a simpler solution. Nonetheless, evidence thus far suggests that Cubi require contact with or at least close proximity to a person in order to surf their dreams. Thus, someone concerned about personal safety while they sleep would probably want to invest more in physical defences than oneirological ones.
Having a pet Squishy rolling around in one's dreams would be a neat way for Beings to ambush unsuspecting Cubi, though. Enough cases of that happening, and simple "Beware of Squishy" signs could be enough to ward off Cubi intrusion. >:3

see,for me it looks like a dragon, with many eye stalks and tentacles and we do know that Cubi and Dragons have a long standing feud for some unknown reason.

(Hurrah for backwards swearing!)
I thought it was something from the Neverending Story, but let me check...Hmm. Doesn't seem to be that.
Also, I'm not sure if backwards writing is encouraged here.
actually i think the idea was used on an episode of 'red dwarf' where they took a trip through someones mind- most of the 'good' characteristics were in a graveyard with pathetic tombstones and self loathing had a castle complete with a harem
and if he gets to write backwards i start speaking in norwegan and vote whose posts hurt your eyes more

You're thinking of "Backwards World", but describing the trip they took through Arnold Rimmer's mind.
Or possibly WaxWorld....

Mine. Because I'll poke both your eyes out, and ban you both. *waves hobnailed boots around* :-P
(incidentally, Yukifox is female. Just so you know...)
Actually, I think the critter's more terrifying in white. And blue kittens are delicious.
Re: Gabriel
I think that maybe that Mythos may have a grudge against demons for the reason that he looks like a dragon.
Truth be told, the fellow looks more like a centepede. But there was no way I was going to draw all of that buggers arms. I think the problem is people are so engrained with the "muzzle-face/long neck=dragon" concept. Then again, there are those in DMFA continuity who can't tell the difference between some Mythos and Dragons. Maybe it's an evolutionary adaption.
As for this particular fellow, I don't really want to give a lot of info on him or his kind. (Partly because I'm lazy. And partly I admit because I do feel a bit burned over feeling like I've been baited for information) But I will say as for this particular race of Mythos, they aren't particularly biased for or against any other race. And the better term for them would be parasites rather than symbiotes...even if some of them do have more compassionate personalities. Sadly, even the most altruistic of them will likely end up putting their hosts into death or a coma.
Ooooo.
Evil plans involving infecting someone with one....

We'll be glad to take care of these people who appear to be trying to Grandmaster the art of Baiting you. I'm thinking a quick trip to Home-Ec should cure them of the desire.
Hey Mana, part of the reason you come off as so annoying is that you just go "Oh, that is like ____" and then either assume we know what the heck you're talking about or pretentiously assuming we'll ask. And then you can't understand why we get mad about it. Anyway, if you really want to post about random stuff because you feel strongly about the first amendment, I'd reccomend 4Chan.
*Ships you off to D&D rehab*
Hehe... anyway, yeah, I noticed the shading when I looked to the side just now. It's awesome! A parasitic dream worm... man Amber, can you blame us for wanting to know about your world? It's insanely interesting. *Applauds your creative genius*
personally, I wouldn't even want him on 4Chan...
I guess we could send him to Gurochan...
Okay. We can stop with the Mana discussion now, guys.
*edit: You cannot stop me Damaris! My post is longer than yours!*
Cmon guys. Be nice. (Wow golly don't I sound so benevolent)
I think the overall point has been dead-horse beaten enough...or so I hope. The fact of the matter is, there is a difference between people posting speculation and people posting things as if they are fact. Speculation is going to happen, and yeah, people are going to time and again compare things in DMFA to other sources. It's inevitable, and in some cases encouraged.
But people posting cryptic sentences in a very "I know something" manner is likely to cause confusion and throw possible newbies off. Not to mention come back and bite people in the butt. While I admit that I do like keeping some of my readers guessing, I don't like the idea of people deliberately misfeeding information. And I definately don't sit well with the idea that people might be posting these things in an attempt to goad me into revealing what might have been spoilers just because I don't want people to get wrong ideas.
Yeah, I don't necessarily enjoy that Manawolf keeps trying to shoehorn DMFA and everything I do into a different canon. I mean, DMFA's universe isn't going to mesh well in a D&D world where everything is divided into random encounter stats. Then again in the same boat I don't necessarily enjoy that Zedd keeps posting as if he is actually his incubus avatar and a member of SAIA (seriously Zedd. Youre pushing it. Keeping it up will result in an official warning)
I can understand people want to have something to compare DMFA to: be it the real world, another fantasy world, or their own creative concepts. But it's a dangerous game since its really easy to fall-back and mislead yourself. And when you go around the forum making comments that could be construed as you knowing something inside-info...it is going to lead to problems.
*bows* As you wish Amber...I shall tone it down
Thinking that thing is draconic is definitely stretching it. With all those eyes, it's far too aberrant for it to have every been draconic.
Then again, dragons are becoming notorious for mating with just about anything.

This is another reason why trying to wipe out the entire dragon race is a pipe dream built upon racist ignorance.

Dragons can and will boink anything!
Just ask some of my dragon characters! >__>
Not saying that all dragons are equally desiring for boinkage or that all dragons are equally boinkable, it's just that a dragon can pretty much boink anything and most will boink anything that they find boinkable and... ....you get the point.
*Charline is quite knowledgeable on the subject of dragon boinking... very very knowledgeable, a PhD-level of knowledge, one could say... one could say she knows the subject inside and out... one could say she has intimate knowledge... one could say she got down and dirty with her subject material... one could say she's gotten very up-close and personal with some of the most experienced boinking dragons and was given a very personal expert demonstration... one could say-* GRRRRR!!! ALRIGHT!!! They get it! Shut up already! *Charline grumbles and hides her diary more carefully...*

Darkmoon, is there a "banned" emote, like the :locked one? I feel a need....
Roleplaying? I think you got that wrong. There goes Netami...
Anywho, killing off a whole race is definitely not a pipedream. Believing that anything is impossible is. And after all this, ridding the world of arrogant, horny and clumsy dragons wouldn't be much of a loss, now would it?
Still, I think that would leave a very rare few. What to do with them?

Are beings able to morph themselves and change all aspects of themselves and their surrounds to suit themselves in their dreams, and even move outside themselves in dreams , could a cubi mind be caught in an unwitting trap inside the body ? The permeutations of this stupid idea may be only for an idle mind , but in a lazy few minutes , the whole idea of image role play reversal could become intriguing. If they can become macical creatures in their own mind , and since full powers in the dream if done properly , an unsuspecting cubi could be caught like a spider in a web .
Oooo. Now there's an interesting question - is the mind of a Being sufficiently strong, in extremes, to trap a Cubi - who, one presumes, has been trained to deal with traps of the mind...
Interesting.
Outright? That's a question for Amber.
However, you have to consider if the being even notices the incubus or succubus'. The incubus or succubus should have done something sufficiently stupid enough in your dream as to blow his or her cover and expose himself or herself to the strength of your mind. Said incubus or succubus has to have a thick dictionary summarily thrown at his or her face and told to look up 'subtlety' in said dictionary.
Oh, but of course.
Either that, or the Being has paranoia, and spends all his time hunting figments of his imagination anyway...
How many people do you know that don't have a paranoria about something as little as spiders even
Most mortals try to 'dreamweave' the dream to relax, relax and have a happy dream . Who wants nightmares ? Think Happy !
