But is their a particular reason why American tech is just a little more resilient to the magic these people use and does that apply to weapons or other things other then the beacon as well?
Its just something that always bugged me when they talk about the beacon on the island.

That's actually a good question. The answer was answered (well, hinted at) at the very beginning of Marilyn's story in Issue 9 (Look around the end of August)
Here's a hint: American tech grew up around the magical hodgepodge of all it's assimilated cultures. Technology built in the US factories has been developed in that sort of wildly changing magic environment and as such, it's been over-built to take those kind of conditions.
