Post by: AndersW on August 11, 2007, 12:21:02 AM
He brought his back wings out, but you cannot see the bottoms of them.

Edit: you can see the bottom of his wings in the second panel, but not very well.

Hennya looks impressive and ready for more. She kind of has an evil medusa thing going on with her.  >:3

That arm looks pretty messed up with multiple puncture wounds, she didn't just get his shoulder she also got around his elbow too. It's possible that he might pass out/die from blood loss depending on how long this goes. Now thought it looks like he's probably going to use some kind of magical attack though with his eyes glowing like that.

On an off-topic note:

50 quatloos on Hennya.  She hasn't shown any indication of fatigue or pain, and Aniz is already panting and struggling to get out his words.

Cubi blood might have a minty aftertaste. or not.

Still, whatever carnage that ensues will prolly either make Abel curl up in a shell of misery, grief, and whatnot, or make him snap like a twig, thus creating circumstances that later on will make Abel curl up in the aforementioned shell of misery and grief.

I saw the black-box update panel on the main page and first thing I thought was:  Hennya's gonna die.  Almost didn't want to click it, but then I slapped myself.  Hello!  Abel's Story update!  *clicky*

Sadly, I can't imagine things going so well for Hennya at this point, short of a Deus-Ex.

You're definitely not alone in that, rabid.  I remember the first time I read through it (was about when Abel was getting home without his wings showing), reading all of that in a night, and literally feeling like the wind had been knocked out of me, it was so powerful.

I keep telling myself that it's just a little colourful spin off from a colourful online comic. Then my better sense goes "No, remember the goosebumps at the "Flowers on your grave" line? Yeah, shut up, Diarmuid, me fine mucker, you love a bit of this. Dirty boy. Dirty boy".

Then I realise my better sense is a bit of a pervert and I take refuge in Diet Coke.

True story.

Apart from the lies.

Seriously though - all due credit to Amber. She's made a silly medium relevant and potent.

Hm, not a widely shared trait, and you're thinking of Mariliths, which are larger with six arms (and menacing weapons to hold in each one).

I'm probably the only one who's amused by the second panel where Hennya is casually flung away.  Apart from that, things are not looking too good for either of them.  Mutual Assured Destruction?

An interesting thing to note is that Aniz didn't kill Hennya outright, which he could have done.  Is he trying to avoid killing her (which would destroy any love Abel might ever have for him)?

He could also use his shapeshifting powers to staunch the bleeding.  His not doing so might be an indication that he's still an inexperienced student at SAIA who is out doing fieldwork, or it might be the classical 'Cubi ego at work here.

And I'm even more bemused about why Abel's wings don't match his dad's.

I don't know if I buy that; this move knocked the wind out of him.  I don't think he can kill her that easily.  I wouldn't go so far as to say that Hennya's the stronger one, but the fight looks like it might go to her.

It shouldn't have been difficult for him to have simply impaled her with his wing-tentacles.  An experienced 'cubi can cut through rocks with them.  But you're right, it could go either way at this point.

There's one thing I know for sure and that is with surprise attacks the first move is detrimental to the success or fail of the attack.  Hennya's initial attack was great but she didn't follow through as well as it should have.
Now that Aniz has collected himself and is ready for Hennya's following attacks, the chances of Hennya being victorious have greatly diminished.
That is unless she has a second surprise up her sleeve, one that would make her initial attack seem like a child's temper tantrum.

I'm still rooting for the Hennya (the underdog) to win.

If I was Aniz I would cut back on the lecturing while there's still potential threats. Everytime he's been hit it was when he was rambling. That seems to be his weakness cause he hasn't blocked a single attack yet wich has cost him a bit of blood and his arm now.

glowy red eyes aren't all that an impressive a trick- my 2 year old daughter can do it and i can't get mine to shut off. however the streaky after image is a mean feat to pull, looks like 'bullet time' has come to the DMFA universe.

everybody keep in mind that the description of cubi says they're powerful, but often have severe deficiency in close combat. a mythos should be a pretty good if not unfair match up, especially a pissed one.

Of course, if he really wanted to show disrespect for the others skills in fighting, he would use magic to repair his shirt. As stated, he hasn't blocked a single attack yet.  If the glowy red eyes is a sign of magic and after he uses the magic to repair the shirt followed by the eyes returning to normal and a statement such as "Now, where were we.", it would really continue in the same vein.

There was a scene in a Superman comic where one of the characters was discussing practical jokes he was going to play on Clark Kent.  And the other cvharacter replied something like "Maybe you should slow down.  Haven't you noticed that all your tricks tend to backfire."

Oh man, Hennya is totally owning it up. Even if there's a slim chance of her winning I'm still rooting for her, if only because she looks extremely awesome. I'm also marveling over the opacity transition in the third and largest panel--how it shows her adjusting her position in mid-air so she lands safely on her hindquarters. That is awesome. Plus the blood in the first panel is really well done, but it's everywhere. :< If Abel weren't in "omigod I'm bleeeeeeeeeding" land, I bet he would be really freaking out.

I was hoping that Aniz's backwings would be different from his head-wings in that they would be similar to the feathery bat-wings that Abel has, but it looks from the glimpse we've been offered that this isn't true. Awww.

Whoa, dramatic fight scene so far. I think there's a pressure point around where Hennya was biting, but correct me if I'm wrong.

But what a day for Abel. A funeral, hearing dying thoughts, learning that he's a incubus and that his supposed father was deceiving him, lots of blood, and a ripped shirt. It takes a special skill to have such a bad day, I think.

Chalk it up to how, well, he really likes the shirt the way it is, not needing mending at all and so forth.  Personally, I'd call battle damage adding character, but it makes sense.  Sort of.

Quick spec-poll: Who does everyone think is going to win this conflict?  For the past couple weeks, my money's genuinely been on Aniz (as someone else pointed out, 'cubi in this universe get away with far worse all the time, off-panel though it may be), but now that Hennya's actually shaken him, I'd say he's going down (though I highly doubt he'll go alone).

Actually.  You're a bit wrong.  Hennya has made a dangerous mistake in that she didn't want to go lethal, so aimed her first strike for non-lethal damage in hopes it would disable Aniz and possibly scare him off.

I will say this much, had Hennya used her initial attack for a fatal blow, this fight would probably have ended just as it started.

But since it hasnt, I just wanted to mention I'm shooting for an extra Abel's Story update this week...which if any astute readers have clued into by now...is codeword for "Amber is trying to avoid multiple weeks of cliffhangery pages"  Take that as you will as a good sign or bad. :B

Hennya's gonna need some uber moves, now that Aniz is on full alert, if she expects to survive this at all.  The only other possibility is that her attack will simply serve as a distraction long enough for another party to come in and double-team Aniz.  I doubt it will be May, and I highly dought it would be Abel.  So as I said before, the only real option for Hennya's survival is a Deus-Ex (someone or something unexpected comes along to nullify the whole scene).

Amber actually responded to me.  I shall cherish the moment along with my memories of words from Jim Henson and James Doohan.  All hail to the great and powerful Amber, the constant source of surprise and wonder.

*****  *****

Edit:

I was looking at this response from Amber again.  We now have a definitive primary source of information that we can pick apart syllable by syllable for hidden meanings and premonitions of future events.  (Not that I would actually do such a thing and risk the wrath of the great and powerful Amber.)

However, Amber does seem to be responding comparatively frequently in the past few days, perhaps in an attempt to make sure that our brains are properly scrambled.  Don't worry, Amber.  With regard to this forum, sanity left the building a long time ago.

We don't know if they can even break her skin.  There were a few ancient mythological creatures that had hides that were completely impenetrable.  It's not impossible that Amber has made a creature with a hide that's difficult even for creatures to break.

Who knows?  Maybe the tentacles were trying to impale her in the first place.

offhand, for as long as she can plausibly. that's taking plot twists, and exposition into account.

or as long as her relative sanity holds out, that said it's not your straight out fight scene between two parties, there's plenty of variables, Hennya's one of them, Kria's another, and if Abel snaps out of it, he'd be another, yet easy to subdue, element to the mix.

Heck, if Fa'Lina or a Warp-Aci pops in, that's another two variables...  Regardless, it's the proverbial can of worms, that's why i love it so.  :3

Atleast her 'stringing out' is making sense. Another of the comics I read alot was literally making every issue after we saw this one character 'possibly' get shot, a cliffhanger. http://www.abstractgender.com For the last month or so since we saw a guy point a gun at the one chars mom and fire it's been conveniently forgetting to tell us if she was dead or just in the hospital. It wasn't until it got to this part where it did a montage of the chars thinking about her, and they were wearing suits, that I went to the forum and found out she was infact dead.

The writer even had the nerve to complain in the forum about people not being as upset as he'd expected about her death. To which I saw one reply 'She's dead?"

So yeah, atleast Amber makes the story longer and cliffhangery IN A GOOD FREAKING WAY!!!

So, if you wins, you gets $11.94 AUD, and if I win, I get £2.09 GBP - even worse (for me), a 6:1 in his favour.

(according to www.xe.com as at time of posting, give or take a little rounding, etc)

Hmmm. I'm tempted to go for it anyway, but the transfer costs of passing it via paypal or some such would be worth more than the bet... :-] (although my brother is in Melbourne, I could get you to post it to him...)

Check that math.  That should be AU$11.94 (£5) vs AU$5 (£2.09).  Anyways, my suggestion was that kaskar should bet £5 while you bet AU$5.  That's still roughly 2:1 in llearch's favor.

8) Another option, which may seem too logical, is have $ 5 (au) each, with IIearch's brother holding that $ 5, and if no-one is lethally DEAD in the next 3 frames, ( Amber draws slow ), then noone collects, since noone has died ...   ( in 1 month, the bet is finished then, with Abel updates once a week ... )  The odds are one to one. No silly currency translation ...  If I lose, IIearch's brother gets sent $ 5 ... Any comment ? Simple cheque ( bankcheque ? ), or a $ 5 note with letter posted to him, Is that too Simple ... Odds 1:1

Then that means you're just betting five australian which doesn't make it fair for Llearch. Just cuz you're giving it to his brother first doesn't make it one to one.

:mowignore I'd send $ 5 (au), or even $10 straight off now ( almost a fiver ) to her brother's adress NOW, to end this foolishness, and forget any bet. Grudges or Guilt can remain for any little reason, like losing a bet, or anything else. No bet, just address of brother to send cash to. I have been banned before, I'll try to be more carefull now not to, by not being stupid ... So just stop poking me with a stick ...

*blinks* ....What in God's name happened to this topic...? :erk

Quote from: rabid_fox on August 11, 2007, 02:15:53 AMI might be completely on my own here, but is anyone else impressed beyond belief at just how engaging Abel's Story is?

I'm sure you've been quoted to death already, but I agree^3.5. That's right, a fourth half-dimension has been created just to describe this level of godly awesome.

That might be overdoing it, but yeah.  I have to wonder whether the Regina arc would have been this good.  To be honest, I think Abel was the right decision, although Amber and Caswin might not agree  >:3

To be blunt...It only matters in the end how you where in your life to have any retribution or remose in your heart to see well into the eyes of others. But I dont think Aniz ever will get it so far ever seince he took over Cid completey or maybe Cid was mainly person he made up to get to May quicker than a venus flytraps sweet scent.  All in all is said...Its gonna take a large chance or luck to wonder who the victor may be afterwords.

Thats all I have to say about that...Goodnight  :B

For once I actually wasn't belittling you. I was just pointing out that your betting logic was off. Also Llearch is a boy so it'd be his brother not her.

hsssss.... math stuff!
Anyways, if I had any money, I would bet on Hennya being taken out (probably not dead, but so wounded she might as well be) and Aniz going up to (barfing) Abel and saying something like "Time to go," except much more sinister. And then Kria comes in, which has been hinted at in like her shadow in the background or something, and just stabs Aniz through the chest with something, cuz that would be awesome, not to mention bloody.  :boogie Yay bloody! And then there's this huge kinda drawn out scene with Aniz all like, "I'm not dead yet," and when he tries to get one last shot in, Kria fireballs him. And then she'll turn to Abel to try to help, and Hennya, whose pretty much dead anyway, will suddenly leap up and try to stop her because she doesn't realize that Kria's a good guy in this case, and Kria will kill her with one blow, barely even bothering to turn around, thus making Abel even more cracked then he already is.

...Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. It's a lot more detailed then what I thought it would be, in any case.

...UPDATE, AMBER!!! PLEEEEEEASE! SOOOOOOOON!

That is all.

EDIT:
Just now realizing what a total loser i sounded like. Ah well. Them's the breaks.
