basically, folks, i'm trying out this oft-suggested cameo auction thingy, but with a slight twist.. an actual character slot in foxfire itself.
Long story short, i need another character to escort Luke about, make sure he stays out of trouble with the other Cubi about house G'rel.. and vice-versa.
i'm new to this, so it's a learning process.. we'll see how we go.

Oooh, shiney. I hope it works out for you.
Cool. I might try for that. I'm kind of curious about the Tasmania, USA thing though. Is that to ensure the price is in USD or something?

no idea.. like i said i'm new to the whole thing, it wouldn't let me enter a location otherwise. :U

Oh, right. I haven't used it to sell anything myself, so I wouldn't know...
Heh, here is to hoping that my finances are stable enough to bid X3
I know mine aren't. :-/
... Mind you, I'm more likely to put in for cannon fodder. "Here, have a character to eat." ;-]
Cannon fodder for charity?
Well, I was recently hit with a $600 car repair bill for losing a fight with the curb. I think I absorbed it fine but things look kind of like dancing with spinning plates right now, though the auction looks to be up for 10 days so I'll know by then.
I also recently got pwned by the car repair fairy to the tune of 1k after being told by the folks I was purchasing the car from, my parents no less, that it had just been fully serviced and was 100%. So I feel your pain.
Good luck on the auction, Turnsky! If you haven't advertised it there yet, you might consider posting a note about the auction on your FurAffinity account journal.
Since you're new to the "cameo/role auction" endeavor, I'd like to mention an idea that may save you from a couple of headaches later on: Post disclaimers in the auction information that clearly set the terms and rules that those who bid can expect if they win, or at least pointing out the issues they can expect to hash out after they win and pay. Common issues addressed are:
- Copyright retention and permission to use the character
- How much creative authority and input the winner retains over the way that you use the version of his/her character within the comic (in other words, can the winner whine if the character in your comic acts differently than the winner expected)
- Whether or not you reserve the right to discuss making changes to the winner's character so that it fits within the established setting
- Etc.
I know that stating these items may seem unnecessarily legalistic or nit-picky, but when either money or intellectual property (and especially both) is exchanged, the time taken to explain these things from the get-go protects both you and the story you're trying to tell.
I don't know, he might just bee keeping it to this forum because we are just cool like that :3

that and i wanna keep it fairly localised at the moment.
i will stipulate that whomever wins, won't die in either a minor, comedic, or horrific fashion.... unless specifically asked. >:3
if there was a way to make the auction a little longer? i'd plaster it on the front page..
as for the established setting? the beauty of what i'm doing right now is that everything isn't set in stone at the moment, so i can, with careful provision, make noncubi races available, this hasta be discussed at length, however.

Now that you mention it, the setting is definitely a fairly open one, with more details left unexplained and unrevealed than defined. Y'know, like maybe that's the kind of perspective someone from an alien world who was recently marooned on Ariannia and just beginning to figure out how things work might have. Wait a minute...why does that sound familiar? :)
You know, as much as I would like to (and as much as I would be willing to) toss some money towards this and see what my chances are, a part of me really doesn't want to be the unknown fan who runs in and ninjas the auction at the last second :shifty. If it were a commission spot, on the other hand, I'd be all over that. So, I will just say good luck to Turnsky in his endeavors and good luck to whomever wins this, your character will be in the hands of (from what I've seen) a very talented artist.
Although, now that I think about it, I do have a female character that I have been slowly working out the details on that I think would fit in rather well as far as antics are concerned.....hmmm. Darn it, now I just reminded myself of some more work I need to do ><
Dude, you have a post count in the triple digits. While they were not all in this forum, you are far less unknown then.... well.... most anyone else really.
I'm with Shades on this one. If you've got that many posts under your belt and cared enough to check the forum, thus enabling you to find out about the auction... Dive on in!
Agreed. We'd all like to see Turnsky get what he needs out of this, the role in his story is just a happy perk that comes with helping out.
All I have is an avatar... of a sloth. I am interested in this bid, however, I am assuming the character should have more than a mug shot. Would it be preferred that the character have a history, or at least some sort of profile? I think I know the answer (yes), but figured I would put forth the question.
yeah... I'm a noob at all this...
Okay, the more I think about it the more I am convinced that there are times when I cannot help but ask the stupid question. If the character didn't come with its own "life" already attached, it would be one Turnsky's characters, now wouldn't it... pardon me while I go over here and shut up for a while.
Hey, now! I don't think that was a stupid question. You already said that you were new at this kind of thing, and asking questions is one of the best ways to get answers.
The fact that you came to your own conclusions after thinking about it a bit longer only goes to show that you did spend some time thinking about it. In my book, that's a good thing.
You all make valid points. I think I will toss a bid in sometime over the weekend while I do a character write up, heck I'm going to have to do the writing anyway if I intend to use the character myself.
May the best man or woman win bravely and fairly :U

... What does that make me? An attention whore? ;-]
Well, the phrase I was going to go for was 'freak of nature', but 'attention whore' works.
Yay! I got called a freak!
... wait, weren't we supposed to be talking about Turnsky's comic? ;-]
Good point. Besides, you're far from alone, Ilearch.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how this works out, and I don't just mean the auction. Maybe it's because I've spent most of my life (so far) in school of one kind or another, but I usually find "training" situations to be interesting, especially if I like the characters. For example, I've liked it when Rellis and Bengahl have explained bits and pieces of the way the Ariannia works. Yeah, I'm a nerd. Besides, just THINK of all the fun things Luke will get into over the course of a few weeks or months around all these crazy people, especially depending on how crazy his roommate turns out to be.
Ah well, the auction went well above what I can afford to pay. May be for the best, never wanted to be a 'cubi anyways :3
As interesting as this might be, I'm not well known enough on this forum to do this as well as the fact that I can't afford to do something like this since Christmas spending is taking priority at the moment.
Didn't wealready go over the not known enough angle? Anyways, I think pal has it sealed at this point. Tis a shame, I was kind of thinking of a character to throw in :3
I'm not lucky enough to win :< someone will out bid me in the last hour or so I just know it.....
Bah, I don't believe that is likely. I think you have it.
Edit:
My mistake, a lot of play here in the last bit!
I was thinking of suggesting Daryil, or Turnsky's interpretation thereof. However Pal really seems to want this so I'm not going to interfere.
**EDIT**
Looks like he has it. Congratulations, dude!
we have a winner! :3
Edit: don't worry Tape, if i have a cannon-fodder auction, i'll give you first dibs. >:3 :U

That's where you pay us for the privilege of killing them, right?
Do I hear... $211?
**EDIT**
It's probably the best for Luke that Daryil didn't get in. Far too many opportunities to torment Luke further. He needs a break after what he's been through...

.. milk just came out of my nose... >.>
And congrats Pal! Can't wait to see what happens :3
You aren't the only one, Wuffnpuff. I'm very interested in seeing what kind of roommate Pal and Turnsky cook up for Luke. Will he prove to be a source of support, a source of torment, or just really really confusing for our favorite imported protagonist?
I know which one I would have tried, but there's another option that just came to mind: all of the above.
I got paid yesterday. I considered bidding, but decided to let Pal have it, on grounds of I like him, and I didn't really have any sort of character to throw into the comic as a proxy.
Oh, and I've already had a cameo in the comic anyway. ;-]
Aww, I've not had a cameo yet :<
Still, I think that Paige and Luke would be more fun to watch.
Hey, if this works out well from a storytelling point of view, Turnsky might try the auction idea again sometime. After all, what author doesn't like new toys to play with? Um, I mean "new characters to explore." Yeah, that's it. :mwaha
Congrats on winning Pal. Now lets see how Luke will interact with his new roommate.

He's got several characters. Paige or Pal would be nice, Ephrael wouldn't quite fit in, being a Being.

Having talked to Turnsky about that very thing, I assure you he has ways of fitting beings in. (though in his setting I *think* they're called Setani).
Heh, in my case my idea would have been to invent a species that are magically/psionically powerful, but are mostly tricksters. Kind of a nerfed fae. Have one of them lead Luke around, in that fake doctor snl skit style.

... by the nose?
Partly, the skit went like this,
Patient in the examining room. Doctor comes in, makes small talk, then asks, "Okay, now take off your pants. Good." Puts his hand between the legs, "Now, turn your head and cough. Oh that's not good. Nurse! Get in here and feel this."
Nurse comes in, reaches a hand down, "Turn your head, cough. Oh that's not good."
A few moments of this passes before another doctor comes in, "Who the hell are you two?"
Then the two in there run. "Oh, them. They come in here and touch people pretending to be doctors. Don't mind them."
I found it funny.

sounds like something from a 'carry on' flick. :U
as for noncubi characters, at this point, nothing's set in stone as far as who the cubi have interacting with them, it's fair to assume that the Ariannian Cubi do keep Setani servants in order to deal with some of the more mundane aspects of life, and with the Terratti, (humans, because quite frankly, most Cubi do well to tolerate them... especially nobles)
Carry on my wayward son~ (Just as a side note, ever notice how that song is called' carry on wayward son' while the lyrics are 'carry on my wayward son'?)
anyways, I would have wanted something revised, and at least nit named 'shades' :p

Ah, so you're
flexible! That's a good thing, especially when fitting one's own character concept or other ideas into somebody else's story setting. Granted, Turnsky has left plenty of flex in the setting itself, but I can certainly see some ideas working better than others. Granted, much like fans, some authors can be a lot crankier than others about that kind of thing.

therin lies the crux of Project Ariannia at this point. it's very flexible to the input of others, and, at this point, can wrangle details or extrapolate even further to accommodate... For example, the Ariannian Cubi clan Endaris.. for the most part? inspired by our own Doctor Ink.. in other words, his entire family is like-minded to him in some way, shape or form. >:3
Hell, i've stated somewhere that as things expand to a "system" level (other worlds and such), Amber could even park Furrae itself in the same system and not miss a beat... although how this affects fanfics across the board, would be amusing somewhat. >:3 :U
