oh what a way to cheer someone up by saying you will kill they're mom if they do something really stupid
Edit:
Fixed your topic. Hope you don't mind...

This, I think, is a good look into his and the creature mindset in general. Killing another creature was tragic. He didn't want to do it. May on the otherhand was expendable the moment she gave birth, though perhaps he wanted to use her in raising Abel to adulthood, or perhaps he wanted to see how long he could keep up the game. She was simply a means to an end.
As for cheering up Abel? Well, he IS evil and I while again he's not exactly seeming eager to kill other creatures, mental anguish and manipulation are more than fine.
Welcome to page 4 of your suffering Abel..Welcome..
Nice to see him show some degree of remorse (some Creature-Creature kinship?) Pity he immediately went and blew it, though. Heck, he could at least have pretended to feel something to keep his son happy, and therefore a bit more malleable. I guess subtlety isn't in his lexicon.

Assuming she doesn't kill herself, of course. In any case, all Abel has to do is keep calm for the next 30 years or so and she'll have died naturally (some consolation).
Wow.
Aniz is really living up to the mispronounciation of his name, isn't he?
I'm starting to suspect he might use May's survival as leverage to keep Abel in line... and, like you all have suggested, that his loathing for May stems from a Creature-Being prejudice. :<
~Keaton the Black Jackal
Poor Abel I bet Aniz Is going to try to set up with a girl with him or something like that :3
So much for "Sunshine and chocolate chip cookies".
But somehow I can't shake the feeling that this whole mess is just a test or even homework for Destinas deception class . After all this is said to be her speciality, isn't it?
If that is true I guess Aniz is only feeling regret because by killing Hennya he will get a bad mark.
Hahahaha... What a magnificent act of bastadry on Aniz's part... Now THAT threat, right there, is a near surefire way of keeping people like Abel in line with pure evilitude. It's almost certainly a guarantee that neither May or Aniz isn't alive in the current time frame.
(Of course, in the current time frame she'd be dead of old age already, but eh.)
So Abel hasn't escaped the probability of thinking that his mother's death will be his fault yet. What a great childhood he's having.

No, she wasn't. Aniz would have killed her, or at least not stayed with her for 25 years if that were the case.
For someone who is attuned to emotions, Aniz sure seems to be going out of his way to avoid giving Abel reasons not to hate him.
I still think there's something else going on here.
What if this isn't Aniz, but someone impersonating him and trying to drive a wedge between Abel and Aniz?
Wait, what? He could have simply kept May around just for this reason, to keep Abel in line.

I really hope Abel's Story won't go down the road of an average Scooby Doo episode:
May: "No, wait... are you really Cid?"
Cid: "No! I'm actually..." *takes off mask* "Aniz!"
Everybody: *gasp*
Abel: "No, wait, if you're my father, why do you act like this?"
Cid/Aniz: "That's because I'm not really Aniz! That was just a disguise for..." *takes off mask* "ME!"

Though I might dispute this, that is a possible reason why she's not expendable.
Edit: keeping him in line when? Before or after cuberty?
There was a shapeshifting character in Marvel comics named Mystique. I'm not sure if I've remembered the line correctly, but she once said to a person she'd captured: "I kill my friends. Can you imagine what I do to my enemies." I thought of that when reading this strip.
Okay, that's enough of this.
Enough of what? :erk

Aniz may be a jerk, but he seems to be a smart jerk. I agree that Aniz threatening Abel's mother is a good way to make sure the little cubi does as he's told.
Of course, once May dies of old age/whatever, you have to wonder what Abel's going to do...if anything. :[

My point is that the likelihood that Abel will try to escape is zero. Threatening his mom might make him less likely to try to escape, so that would change it from zero to...zero.
Besides, if that's his only card, eventually Abel will have to either call his bluff or Aniz will have to follow through and throw away that only card.
Abel, if you attack your teachers, I'll kill your mom.
Abel, if you run away, I'll kill your mom.
Abel, study for the exam or I kill your mom.
Abel, you eat everything on that plate or I kill your mom.
Abel, did you wash your hands after visiting the little boy's room? You know what that means...
I mean, after a while, you just get tired and stop following it, not because you don't care, but rather because the crushing stress makes you incapable of thinking straight.
Plus, Fa'Lina is probably going to overrule him, and thus it would make sense not to use it as a lever. I'm sure that they have more effective levers, anyway.
I have nothing to say, as this comic has left me utterly speechless. Please move along.

Bah! Open your mind! "Evil" is meaningless, and purely and entirely subjective, and dependent on who's doing it, and everything falls into grey areas and judging other people is wrong and stupid and-

Oh, expendable doesn't mean useless! Just means he can get rid of her if he feels it suits his needs better. :)
superluser, I'm not sure I understand why you are so sure that Abel won't try to escape. Personally, if I were kidnapped and taken away to a place that seems at least a little bit civilized (which is to say, not in the middle of an inhospitable wasteland), I would seize my first chance to get away from my captor, even if I had reason to believe that the whole community was against me. I can't speak for you or for Abel, but it doesn't seem completely unreasonable.
I think that it is completely reasonable for Aniz to hold Abel's mother's life over his head.

*tch* flesh golems built in one's image are great, but they just lack the power to take on any tough oppoents... plus the lack of authentic magic weaponary and ability to use wind magic.
Anyways, on a more serious note, Aniz potentially could have a reason for hating May beyond the whole creature-being racisms. Probably something along the lines of her being so helpless *shrugs*

Accepting someone as your biological parent does not necessarily mean that you don't hate their guts however. He after all does have a great deal of supporting evidence to believe that Aniz sired him.
I'd have found it a lot more interesting if he called him "dad", or another "familiar" fatherly term. Something I bet we won't ever see happen.

I really love Aniz. He's such a bastard at all the perfect moments. And poor Abel... now you KNOW he's gonna end up triggering May's death. Marvelous comic, Amber.
Aniz is perfectly capable of attacking May and threatening Abel with her death simply to control Abel even if he had no intention of harming May and/or was actually in love with her. Even if he is in love with her, I feel that he is capable of severely injuring her in order to maintain control over Abel. I don't think he'll kill May because that would cause him to lose control over Abel.
Aniz is not a candidate for the Albert Schweitzer humanitarian award.
I'm not sure where Amber is going, but it should be an interesting ride on the roller coaster. I expect that we will face at least two major surprises. Some of Aniz's emotions seem genuine, but others seem rehearsed and fake. I'm just not sure which fit in each category.

Not really. You just have to think that May can't see or know about all these continuing threats upon her life, so the line loses no impact when you realise it's -her- the line is meant to affect, not Abel. The last thing she heard (to put it loosely), that she'll never forget.
