Title: 06/21/09 [DMFA #1017] - Time for another demonology crash-course!
Post by: Jairus on June 22, 2009, 01:37:49 AM
I sense that we shall be learning more about the Warp-Aci shortly. So, it does not seem that Fi's new size is permanent, unless Dan can't get it back to a manageable size.

On a minor note, why does Abel think Dan has any working knowledge of Warp-Aci?

Well the obvious thing to do when you are given an unknown magical creature would be to learn all about it. Abel is just forgeting that Dan is Dan

I just have one thing to say about this update.

BUTTERBALL?!?!?!?

:giggle   :giggle   :giggle   :giggle   :giggle

Never heard Abel use that word, much less thought of it as applied to Fi....

No.

Sorry, I can't.  It's too silly to use consistently with a straight face.

I had a friend whose cat was named Butterball. It makes this comic much more silly in my mind.  :)

No, butterball replaces the pronoun, so there's no "he"! It would be, "Where is Fi?!? Butterball ate my sandwich!"

That is a weird slip.  Dan thought he was a winged Being until Aary tried to kill him.  Abel knows that.  Maybe he has spent too long at the Academy.

As for Paranoia, I've never played it but it's definitely been on my list of things to try.

Oh, Fi's definitely struggling there. I don't know about reversal; but, it's certainly trying to get out of Abel's grip.

Dan may not yet know much about being a cubi, and cubi related things, but don't forget that warp-acis aren't cubi specific. Anyone with magical training can summon one, so chances are warp-aci are a bit more common knowledge. Abel may be taking for granted that an adventurer of Dan's caliber should know about all kinds of creatures, including magical summons. He is of course asking Dan, so it's not surprising Dan has no clue. :P

Good point.  That Dan may have known about warp-aci from his adventurer training, anyway - as for how clueless Dan is, that's an open question.

I'll go on the order as saying "pretty clueless".

I wonder if those mow-figures will make a return. If Abel regurgitates something he picked up at SAIA, the chances are better than even that they will.

Well put.  (I knew there was something I'd forgotten to add)

EDIT:
Actually, there's another dimension to it as well.  Something else I forgot to add.  IIRC Warp-Aci are most popular with 'Cubi anyway, since most other races can't be bothered with them.  If so, Warp-aci aren't going to be a common sight, given how rare 'Cubi are.

Judging from this (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_606.php) Dan doesn't know anything about warp-aci. Also let's not forget that Dan has a dislike for magic because of a flying rock incident (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_551.php).

Learning how to change warp aci size means Dan could make Fi look like whatever he wanted, because a warp aci's owner gets to do that, right? So Dan will turn Fi's ears into pac-men! :U

My theory is that Dan is a kind of idiot savant* powered by the rule of funny. When he puts his mind to it he can master cubi/ magic things quickly (Tentacle shapes and pac man head wings) but other wise he's pretty dim.

*I realise that's an outdated term but it seems to fit Dan.

Are you misconstruing Abel's ear as another bite? The positioning makes it seem like one, now that I look at it.

After closer examination Abel's ear definitely looks to be covering Fi's tail, although what originally made me twig was the fact that the bite makes it look as if it was the top the tail a chunk was missing, not to the side. The outline on Abel's ear looked like another bite to me on first glance, so I guess this was overanalysation on my part there.

Consider the CAPTOR mine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTOR_mine).  You could plant a few hundred of them with slightly modified software.  That way you have mines that launch the equivalent of a Macross Missile Massacare.

Blame Pip for the damage. Blame Fi for barging into a situation where it happened again! If Fi's tail gets repaired by resizing again, I think it'll get damaged again (whether by Pip or something else) before too long.

....

for somebody so "knowledgeable" about weapons, you certainly don't know a lot about how they're spelt, let alone what exists, and what's possible.

if a tank couldn't take a .50 cal 'high explosive' round, it'd be an SUV.   >:3

Unfortunately one of mankind's great strengths seems to be to come of more interesting and disturbing ways to kill each other. Like land mines, not actually designed to kill in many cases. Certain chemical weapons for example can kill you in an instant so some victims remain frozen in position. There is also a missile that destroys a tank from the inside out by its payload becoming molten and flowing into the tank.

Even wonder what would happen if all that time, effort and money was put to better use?

Edit add: I'm also curious about what exactly a warp arci are and if they come from a place that has no sensation, wouldn't the world they have been summoned into be overwhelming?
