...  I'm fairly sure the worst aspect of this is that people actually admit to having watched CP...

I pretty much still know the entire theme song.  *hangs head in shame*

I have thought of this before- 'heart' really does not fit the line of earth, water, air, and fire... but can you imagine keeping a strait face if he shouted "WOOD!" instead?

oh great, now my brain is splicing capitan planet with the avitar....this is so wrong...

And then there was the evil Captain Planet... but I can't remember much more.

I think he was called Captain Pollution - he was a sort of "negative" version of CP.

He didn't last very long - only the one episode IIRC.

No, he was in a couple episodes. He got revived or something, but then Captain Planet put him down for good.

After discussing with a friend, we concluded that Mai-Ti is totally gay for Wheeler.

rabid_fox

Wheeler's totally gay for the Irish Wheeler that turns up in the episode where Captain Planet comes to Belfast.

Oh dear.

It always bugged me how they showed Wheeler doing cool stuff in the opening sequence, like melting the street to stop a car. Stuff he NEVER did in the actual show. God, Wheeler annoyed me.
I also remember having a little crush on Kwami. Must have been the accent.

thegayhare

recently I foud a kinda cool captain planet flash game

where you had to fight robots that were tearing up Gaia's island

kinda cheesey but fun

*Charles hated that show soooo much*  I began polluting as much as possible after watching an episode of it!  I burned polychlorinated plastics in a low-temp fire to spew as many dioxins as I could into the air!  DIE PLANET!!! DIEEEEEE!!!

Admit it. You did that out of the secret hope of having the planeteers showing up and you having a chance to mack on Linka.

Heroes will ALWAYS pop up to foil your plans, unless of course your plan is to cause havoc hoping for heroes to show up...that never works, its like they pick the day i try to lure them into a trap to take their vacation. stupid banana man ignored me like im not even worth thwarting...

Okay now I feel GEEKY that I remember CP more than anyone else in the board.

There was an old ep that I liked... it was when Linka went home back to Russia and her brother died from drug abuse it felt weird to have a death in the show.

Loot N. Plunder, Duke Nukem and Doc Blight are the only ones who actually make sense in that show as villians...

And Unless Im mistaken Cap Pollution made a return bout during last season when the show was pretty much a parody of itself with the cheesy puns and all.

llearch n'n'daCorna

... you mean it wasn't a parody to start with?

Don't feel bad, King. I still remember a lot of the show, just not enough to talk about it intelligently.  I don't have the kind of memory for that.

However, to make you feel less geeky, I will divulge that my brothers and I all made our own Captian Planet shirts and rings, and even owned all the action figures at one point (they probably still have them somewhere- they're packrats).  I was always Gi.

The best part were how the figures came with their rings.

And those rings that actually said the phrases. Those were cool too.

I'll hold up the memory of the alien guy-entity whose name I can't recall (he was touted as the antithesis of Gaia) who proceeded to tempt the Planeteers with alternate versions of their own powers, greatly enhanced. Everyone went for them except Ma-Ti, and they had these neat metal gauntlets.

Using their powers required adding "of CONQUEST!" to the end of the usual elemental shout. So Kwame was like "Earth... OF CONQUEST!"

Those powers were cool, damnit.

King Of Hearts

From a storyteling standpoint CP wasnt supposed to be that much of a parody when the series started... You can still hear a sense of belief of the characters in their world but by the "New" adventures Cap... well... they lost their heart. Especially Cap himself.

[geek]

CP is such a wasted character... the herald of the Earth Mother should not be defeated so arbitrarily. Many of the pollution that he is weak of are built of the elements from the Earth itself. Why should he be weakends by an Oil Spill when he can dig for it just fine on the ground? And dont get me started with Hitler's hate weakening cap.

[/geek]

And maybe its just me but is Verminuous Scum supposed to look like a Stereotypical bad Jewish Caricature? Or am I just looking at 4chan too much?

Isn't Hitler dead?  How on Earth did they get Hitler to fight Captain Planet?

Yeah, if you've ever seen the Nazi propaganda film The Eternal Jew (there was a bit about it in the special features on the DVD for Fritz Lang's M--I don't make a habit of watching Nazi propaganda), Verminous Skumm looks very familiar.

If i remember right, Dr. Blight had gone back in time to give the Nazi's nuclear weapons so that they could win WWII.

Oh, that is fantasticly hilarious.  I'm trying to imagine any way to win a war in Europe by using nuclear weapons.  I suppose it might have helped them take Stalingrad, but I'm just remembering the fallout drift patterns from Chernobyl--any nuclear explosion anywhere west of the Urals would probably cause mass death everywhere in the German-occupied territories.

Well to be fair, Captain Planet was never all that hip to being realistic so much as making a highly opinionized point.

There was an episode where a guy intended to kill off all the elephants in Kenya for their ivory and had them in a big holding pen.

Though Captain Planet was the first cartoon to ever tackle the issue of AIDS. (That episode consisted of one of Wheelers basketball friends having AIDS from a blood transfusion and the Ratlike guy spreading hate-rumours to make everyone scared to even be around him cause they thought they'd get AIDS just by touching him)
