But if morality labels something critical to survival as a 'bad thing', then it's a useless moral code.

Erm. It's not critical to survival.

To put it in other terms - it's required if you want to live over three score years and ten, but otherwise totally unnecessary.

Perhaps if we put it as this - a vampire doesn't usually (in most stories) require the blood of humans to live. It adds a certain something, but it isn't required. Similarly, it's not necessary to drink to the death of the human involved - but it tastes better. On the grounds you're arguing, it's perfectly moral for a vampire to drink any human to death anytime they like, just to make it taste better.

I'm not totally sure your "moral code" is not what would normally be considered sociopathic. You may wish to re-evaluate it a little - unless you're simply arguing reductio ab absurdum, of course.

I wouldn't consider "If you don't do this, you will die because of it" to mean "Totally unecessary". Just because you have the relative lifespan of a firefly...

It would be perfectly moral by vampire morality to do that. Humans are bound by their morality, monsters are bound by theirs, and neither has the right to try forcing the other to abide by the other's moral code.
