Possibly magical farming implements.  Even regular farming implements would be a pain if people regularly nicked them for the metal.

It does have the drawback that it lessens the shock value, i.e. something my proofreaders liked in the original story was the fact that the murder just came out of the blue.

But I feel it was a necessary compromise.  In future days, when people are reading through the archives there's Jakob's Warning, but having it just dump someone on a page like that with no forewarning would not really be fair.

FWIW, what you're seeing is a watered-down version of the page.  I am toying with the idea of uploading the original version to FA, but frankly it is pretty gruesome.
