 *coughs politely*

I personally wouldn't have a problem with Tech's warbot idea. In the past I've seen much worse, and in fact know two of my characters that would essentially shrug off something like a BattleTech mech with no problem.
(One, however, could at the same time be defeated with a glass of water. LOL)

Stygian

I have to agree with the Grey here, actually. Nowhere in the previous RP was it stated that other characters were to be left alone. And the idea of a mimicking blob as one of the characters here actually adds to the RP, seeing as this one has an actual method and way to his mimicry.

Okay, I'll admit that I want to see if Tech can do the absorbed characters justice by interpretation, true. I'm curious to see if he can pull it off. Not to mention, I think I want to see him at least try to absorb Stygian. >:3

Angel

 >:3 hehehe. Nice try, Stygian.

Tech, your character does sound like he has potential. You'd have to pull it off just right for it to work, but it does sound fun.

Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy-bitsy spider went up the spout again...

*cough* I feel I should point out, TGR was referring to the warbot idea, not to the blob.

Not that I have an opinion either way...

My impression of the circle was that the edge forms a sort of force wall, making it impossible to involve bystanders. My position on absorbing bystanders mid-fight stands until further notice.

Anywho, yes. The warbot and the guy with the autonomous guns are fine Tech.

Quite so.

I feel compelled to drag this one back in sooner or later; she gets so little playtime, after all:

Name: Unknown
Nickname(s): The Queen
Age: 34,000
Species: Xenomorph
Family and Association(s): None
Place of Origin: Agruul 4 (Timeline 18)

Physical description

Height: 30'2"
Weight: 2,012 lbs.
Build: Powerful and alien.
Eyes: None
Hair: None
Skin: Glossy black exoskeleton
Distinguishing features: The Queen is a xenomorph queen with two large arms with long talons, two smaller arms sprouting from her chest, two legs that are also tipped with talons, and a  twenty-foot long tail tipped with an eight-foot solid serrated spike. Her eyeless head sweeps up in a massive cranial comb, and she has two sets of fanged jaws, the innermost one mounted on the end of a five-foot long retractable organic piston.

Dueling Info

Weapons: None.
Abilities: The Queen has incredible strength, able to tear through battle-hardened alloys as though it were tissue paper. She can use her tail as a whip, or as a prybar to tear into things. She can communicate telepathically with most creatures, though she usually chooses not to. She can produce and lay eggs at a rate of ten an hour. These eggs hatch into facehuggers that latch onto living creatures as hosts and implant xenomorph eggs into them. When the eggs hatch, they feed on the host then burst out as larva, killing the host. The Queen can spray concentrated acid from her mouth at high velocity, and can generate and shape an unusual organic resin at will. This sticky resin is brittle at first, but hardens stronger than steel within an hour. She can survive in vacuum and in the crushing pressures of the deep sea with no harm.
Strengths: The Queen is highly intelligent, and very hard to injure. Her blood is concentrated molecular acid, capable of eating through armored hullmetal in seconds. She heals incredibly fast, and can even regrow lost limbs within an hour or so. She can sense electromagnetic fields, allowing her to "see" in a broad spectrum.
Weaknesses: The Queen's size and weight put her at a disadvantage in enclosed spaces. She is vulnerable to extreme heat. When fully enraged, she becomes a dangerous but mostly unthinking animal, and can often be lured or goaded into acting foolishly.
Quirks: The Queen thinks only of her hive, and how she can expand her influence. She tends to treat all creatures as lesser beings or mere cattle.

History

Agruul 4 is a jungle world, shrouded by mists. Below the mists is a single globe-spanning continent, covered by one all-embracing jungle. The air is humid, and reeks of every kind of organic life imaginable. Creatures both common and bizzare live here, breeding and changing over the ages.
It is here that The Queen resides.
In a hive built into the cone of a long-dormant volcano that towers four miles above the green jungle, she sits deep inside in her chamber, producing millions of eggs to further expand her kingdom, watching over her drones, and telepathically guiding her warriors.
She has no enemies, this one, save her own daughters in lesser hives that dot the planet. These she tolerates until they encroach on her domain; then she does furious battle, killing the intruding queen's warriors and the young queen herself if possible. There is only one rule: The Strongest Survives.
The Queen has ruled supreme for over three thousand years.
When an odd humanoid appeared at the entrance to her hive, The Queen was curious. She sent several of her warriors to bring this creature before her, and all were cut down by it's gleaming blade. As the shock and anger welled inside her, she heard a voice inside her head. It spoke of other worlds, of ways to be immortal after her hive was dust, of prey to be taken in all its' forms, and of one hive, under her rule, spanning the universes. The Circle, it said, was the key to all this. Fight inside the Circle, and all will be given to you. Then the creature disappeared.
The lure of the Circle was too great. After sending several of her warriors and daughters through it to never return, The Queen herself took her escort through. There she found worthy battle, and often stronger hosts for her children, breeding stronger warriors to her service.
Of the creature who promised her glory, there has been no sign. If she encounters it, she will extract its' promises from it, one by one....then consume it.

It would be the honorable thing to do, after all....

Heh, I remember her. Never got the chance to see her in action last time, here's hoping that changes. Then again, can you blame people for not wanting to challenge her? >:3

In other news...

Name: Siolen
Nickname(s): Rocky, Rampant, The Charging Wall
Age: Bit over 900
Species: Gargoyle
Family and Association(s): Fellow Gargoyles or animate curses too numerous to list, his Castle.
Place of Origin: Ireland

Physical Description: Hunched posture and mainly saurian body structure puts his height at about 5'6", but standing upright he'd probably be closer to 6 and a half feet. His head was carved to closely resemble that of a wolf (longer tongue, larger eyes), but from there down it's scales and armor plate (the armor designs don't actually increase his defense, they're just carved into the stone). His feet end in large hooves, whereas his wings look almost comically stunted compared to his bulk. His arms aren't entirely unlike those of a gorilla, and end in large four-fingered hands a little past his knees. His tail is roughly 7 feet in length and ends in a scythe-shaped blade. His teeth are stained black.
Also, lest I forget, he's made of stone.

Dueling info (combat strengths, weaknesses, weaponry, etc.)
Weaponry: Siolen doesn't use any. Prefers to work with his hands, hooves, tail, and whatever else he can hit someone with.
Strengths: Gargoyles are built to guard castles; Siolen can possibly be classified as an anti-siege weapon. His senses of sight and hearing are extremely good. He's strong, agile, stealthy in the right environment, and can be very fast in much the same way avalanches are. A spell woven into his construction allows him to fly despite the impracticality of his tiny wings, and a second spell allows him to spit gobs of flaming tar with a velocity akin to your average cannon ball. He's a bit tougher than your average pile of rocks, and in combat he's a lot smarter too.
Weaknesses: While he can lift his own weight, it's still a lot of weight to work with and that can be to his disadvantage. He can't swim worth a damn, and if he loses his balance or gets knocked out of the air he comes down HARD. Also, while good at setting up ambushes, his forte isn't a straight out head to head fight; he's used to defending structures, so he's loath to give or gain ground in a fight and tends toward holding his position when it may be wiser to fall back or advance. If someone can out-endure him they probably have the fight half-won.

Personality: He's old, but tends to be somewhat naive. His duties were never big on socializing, so while he can fight off a war party of barbarian invaders as well as you please sarcasm or social subtleties will probably go right over his head. He likes having someone to defend or look after as well. Think of him as a somewhat dense but well-meaning version of the knight errant.

History: When he was first carved, he was christened Siolen (a combination of the gaelic words for stone and defender) and was initially a simple statue with a pipe in its back so that rained hot tar from its jaws onto those who attempted to breach the walls of the castle he was set upon. Obviously, this didn't stay forever. The castle gathered curses, much in the way sand gathered in oysters to make pearls, and developed a degree of intelligence. Gradually the gargoyles did too. The lords of the castle were more often mad than benevolent, but the castle's childlike intelligence cared only that there was a lord and that they liked the castle itself. Then there was a time where there was no lords, for a long time... Siolen has kept the castle entertained since then with stories of his exploits, having the other gargoyles or ghosts or whathaveyou keep the castle entertained when it became neccissary to go out and see about collecting more exploits. Lately he hasn't been able to go away for particularly long periods at a time though, as visitors are once again arriving at the castle. Visitors with brushes and picks and notebooks, or flashlights and maps...
Or expensive suits and land deeds...

...You are about the last person I expected to advocate this at all. But I don't mean that in a bad way at all. It's just unexpected, to me.

Tech, your character does sound like he has potential. You'd have to pull it off just right for it to work, but it does sound fun.
That's something I too wanted to make sure I got right. See, it isn't mimicking so much as it is merging. Xerph and the absorbed person literally become one and the same, until they are ejected ten mintes or less later. While he does have their mind, some of his own mind is created as well (Though, just for the sake of mentioning it, Xerph isn't really a 'he', he's actually genderless. He takes on the gender of whomever he merges with). To get the attitudes down for the more complex, mysterious, and elegant characters (Cogi comes to mind), I was actually planning on PMing whoever Xerph is going to absorb ahead of time, both to let them know that it's coming (NOT so that the charcater can dodge it, but so the player isn' completely blindsided), and to get pointers on how their char would act, so I could play accordingly.

Quote from: Stygian on November 08, 2007, 05:00:39 PM
Not to mention, I think I want to see him at least try to absorb Stygian. >:3
How did I totally see that line coming? :rolleyes Thing is, and to put it very honestly and bluntly, the absorption is kinda an 'autohit'. Yes, I know very well that sounds like blatant powergaming, but think about it, both in character and out for the reasons. First off, how it works. He shoots of a blob of himself. It shots toward his intended target, it expands into a huge blanket, it closes around the target completely, then shoots back to Xerph. This all happens in seconds. Even if someone could react in a split-second to the initial blob, there's not much someone could do about it, especiall once it becomes a blanket. If someone just tries to cut it with say, a sword or other weapons, that will do nothimg nore than give them two to deal with. Magic could blow a hole in it, but that won't help much either (Of course, this is all assuming that someone could cast a spell or swing a sword in 3/4ths of a second). Now looking at it out of character, it's pretty much the only thing he has. He doesn't use it against whomever he's fighting, like said, and it also barely even counts as an actual 'attack'. It is a means to acquire a way to attack.
But I'm not trying to pass this off as an excuse to just go absorbing willy-nilly. I'm just saying that's how it works. I also would let the player of the (to be) absorbed character know it's going to happen ahead of time, like I said above.

I was think of a similar thing, but instead of keeping outside things out, it would keep inside things in. I figured Xerph would be able to bypass this because he's shooting off only a small part of himself to nab someone to be absorbed. Thus, he stays inside the ring.

There's  reason I'm not going to be using these, or the other ideas I mentioned earlier. It's because they aren't actual ideas! (excepting the fighting pair, whom I'm still not to keen on using at the present time regardless) They were just random, less-than-half-baked things flitting through my head at the time. Nothing was ever developed.

But, the final word.

can i assume i'm automaticly in since ronin approved him for the old thread?

Boog

Everyone's in automatically unless it's stated otherwise.

techmaster-glitch

Y'know, I just thought of something. The Honor Circles are magical, right? They configure themselves to fit the rules put up by the contestants?
How far can this go? I'm imagining that the rules could be set so that it isn't even a direct fight, it could be some sort of other contest. Even seen the cartoon Xiaolin Showdown? Can the Honor Circles do similar things to the stuff that happens in that show durning a Showdown?

Boog

Actually, the tag team thing I have been considering. Put together some teams, we can give it a shot.

techmaster-glitch

I actually wasn't really thinking of me doing team or tagteam battles myself, i was just asking about it mainly for the benifit of everyone else. It's the extensiveness of the Honor Circle's configuration magic that I was wondering about. (Though, even with this, I'm still where I originally was; nowhere. *sigh* this just isn't my RP, is it?)
Avatar:AMoS

techmaster-glitch

I meant to mention this earlier, but the hipocracy of TGR getting to play the Xenomorph Queen when it was said that I couldn't use a charcater that wasn't mine...but I'm not pressing that right now. Just sayin'.

My real point is that I remembered a character that I came up with some time ago, who would actually work pretty well for this RP instead of Xerph. But the thing is, I've got this wierd complex where when I come up with an idea, I want the idea to be...different. Creative. Original. (which is why I'm often put out for a little while when I think of something but later find out someone else already thought of it) While the things I come up with are usually inspired by something else, I try to make them a different as possible. This has shown a bit in my charcater creation for other RPs (particularly Line in the Stars, I had to try three times before coming up with an acceptable charcater set)
How this applies here: TRG is playing the Queen. While it may not be his character, I have to admit, that's a damn fine stroke of creative genius to bring a character like that into an RP like this. If I can't top that level of originality, I don't feel like I deserve to be in an RP like this.
But, as I often do, I'll probably get over this and end up posting my new character anyway. We'll see.
Avatar:AMoS

Boog

Tech, under normal conditions I would agree with you. However, anyone from the previous RP is to be granted automatic entry. While she never had the chance to fight, Queenie showed up in the old Honor Circle that was introduced by TGR. Ergo, she can show up here.

As for your character, I look forward to it. You're not a half-bad RP writer when you apply yourself, I'm sure it'll be great.

That's actually kind of what I figured, because I did see TGR say she was in the original, and he was the GM of that one...but I just had to say it anyway. Just to make sure.

As for my char...mrrrmph...ah, what the hell, I'll go work on him. I'm probably gonna wait on posting him, and I'll definately wait on actually jumping in until the shock of Queenie arriving has worn off.
Unfortunately, after her, even with a wait, the odds of my char fazing anyone are pretty much nil...and weren't that great to begin with...dammit...
I am so wishing I would have rememberd this character a long time ago. Would have been so much better. Ah well. Them's the breaks. Life sucks. What's happened has happened. Must keep moving on.
Avatar:AMoS

TheGreyRonin

 To clarify:
I created the original Honor Circle, and the Queen was in it. My original rules never stated that one could not use a non-original character, so long as said character fit all other requirements. As for tag-teaming, it was never brought up in the old thread. I personally do not mind the concept, though I believe it could easily get out of hand and thereby ruin the concept by encouraging team play.

Having said that...This is Boog's baby. He has already instituted changes from the original, some of which I myself would not have done. Be that as it may, I have no say in the matter, nor do I wish any. I will provide advice and/or opinions if asked, but I have absolutely zero say in this and prefer it that way.

Even though the Queen was in the original thread, I still requested, and was granted permission from Boogey to have her in this one. If he had said no, then I would simply have submitted another character.

Simply my two credits' worth.

techmaster-glitch

I know and realize all that already. Except for one thing...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're saying that encouraging team play is a bad thing?
Avatar:AMoS

nikename2

well from what I figure, it would depend on the rules set up by the challenged player. For example:

Me:I challenge you!!!
Him:K, it'll be a team match, me and (other person who agrees to fight along side him.) Vs. you and (someone who isn't fighting and is willing to fight along side you.).

To that end, there could just be a huge free for all if everyone consented to that, like Smash bros.  >:3

Still, I can see where TGR is coming from. The more people you include, the more you gotta wait for everybody to make an action and subsequent reactions. It would slow things down and cause people to lose interest, which is generally not a good thing.

techmaster-glitch

Ah, good point. But TGR didn't say anything about that.
Still, it could be pulled off sometime. Most active RPs here are already large groups. Just take BOTM for example, or even better, Furrae Chronicles.

I didn't think I had to say it...

Also why try to circumvent the rules of a thread when other threads already allow what you wish, and alternate rules could be as easily applied to another one?

Hmm... I don't see why that should be a problem for this RP specifically. Fights here don't last very long, and people would (presumably :animesweat) only join in if they had time to participate in that particular match.
The same thing we do every night, Pinky...
